That decisions to keep scholes from the middle in the England squad was probably why they were less successful

The main issue was David Beckham could only play right midfield. If Beckham wasn’t there it could have been Scholes 6, gerrard 8 , Lampard 10

@@connorjames6226 they were trying to play 442 in an era that had moved into 433.
Beckham was an issue but I think the main issue was wasting Scholes potential by playing him down the left flank. IMO that’s a much more knucklehead manager decision than playing Beckham where he is used to playing! They could have used Beckham as a right winger and it would have probably worked better than a 4 midfield flat 😂
