- You don't need a special battery charger for an OPTIMA battery under normal conditions. However, this video will explain some important charging characteristics of OPTIMA batteries.

I have a yellow top I have had for a long time and it has been great. However the forum I am on for offroad trucks has numerous posts from recently purchased batteries failing. I would say out of 10 people, 1 has a good experience any more with a Optima, the rest found them to fail or cause electrical gremilins. When swapped out with a standard battery, gremlins are gone.
+MoabMan batteries are essentially energy storage tanks- energy can be put into them or removed from them. People are welcome to believe their batteries are the cause of other underlying electrical issues, but their rationale for that belief is often flawed. In some cases, it can be as simple as the ground not being properly-connected and by switching out any battery for another, the problem is solved. In many cases specific to off-road use, RedTops are being used in applications that are deep-cycle in nature. RedTops are not designed or warrantied for such use, so they often fail to meet the unrealistic expectations of the users in those instances.
If someone maintains proper voltage in their battery whenever possible and chooses the correct battery for their application, they''ll be well ahead of the game. If they want to believe everything their friends post online, they'll be very disappointed when Mark Zuckerberg doesn't give them shares of Facebook.
I left my lights on it went completely dead I had to jump cables on it for a second and then charge it it seems okay now
I have a optima battery and I need a charger that can charge it so what can I use for the red one ?
Most chargers will work just fine. We suggest avoiding "gel" or "gel/AGM" settings, that may not fully-charge non-gel batteries.
Will the alternator charge an optima? I have an isolator.
Alternators charge millions of OPTIMA batteries on millions of different vehicles.
You contradict yourself just ike that other video. You say use the AGM setting if the charger has one, but then go on to say do not use GEL or GEL/AGM settings as they will not fully charge the battery a few seconds later. My charger doesn't say GEL, but it does say AGM. How does one know whether to use the AGM setting when you say use it, then say don't use it.
yawns smith that is not a contradiction. Some chargers have "AGM" settings, which are fine to use. Other chargers have "GEL" or "GEL/AGM" settings, which we suggest avoiding. If it doesn't say "GEL" in the name of the setting, as sounds like the case with your unit, it should work just fine.
I have an Optima Yellow Top and an Optima Digital 400 charger. The charger indicates the battery is at %75 charge & high 13 volts the Digital 400 will not get the battery passed the 75 mark it’s in conditioning mode which I’m tracking is to keep a %100 charged battery at %100. I purchased the battery less than a month ago and got the Digital 400 two days ago. The charger has been plugged in for roughly 18 hours.
Is the charger supposed to go into conditioning mode if the battery is only at 75 percent charge?

The Digital 400 will charge at a slower rate than the Digital 1200 and depending on the size of the battery and state of charge, may take more than 24 hours before it moves past conditioning mode and/or shows 100% state of charge. Sounds nice and all but this chargers cost over 200$ more then i paid for the battery i got it's insane they should be more affordable
As indicated in the video, most chargers will work just fine to charge OPTIMA batteries in most situations, so you don't need to purchase an OPTIMA charger. If you do want to purchase an OPTIMA charger, you can always buy a Digital 400 for significantly less than a Digital 1200- www.optimabatteries.com/products/chargers/digital-400
You get what you pay, but unless it's a race car, off-road, or a 700whp truck it's not needed. I put these in all my kids/wifes car because it's put it in and rely on it for at least 4 years. It works very well in sports cars. The best
why is my brand new bluetop hooked to this 1200 digital why is it only charged to 75%? shouldnt it charge 100%? i pushed the high performance deep cycle button

If you're not using one of our chargers, we recommend only using units that are microprocessor-controlled, preferably with specific settings for AGM (not gel) batteries. Maximum recommended output is 10 amps, which shouldn't be an issue unless you have a fairly large solar array.

So what Amps do you recommend to charge a Optima D34M battery. I know you say a maximum of 10amps but my charger has options 2A, 4A , 6A and 10Amp. What do you recommend?
It sounds like any of those should do fine. Just keep in mind the capacity of that battery (55Ah) and whether or not your charger is properly-regulated. Even if your battery was completely discharged (most are not), at the 10-amp rate, it should only take a few hours to completely-recharge it. Sometimes a higher current level can also help break up sulfation that may have formed in a battery, if it has sat in a deeply-discharged state for an extended period of time. Most folks find that even when they set their charger at a 10-amp rate, it will start tapering amperage very early in the charging process and will probably not charge at 10 amps for very long, if at all.
