    Thanks to everyone who requested this one. I've had a lot of questions regarding which battery tested I used. It's a Foxwell BT-705, which I purchased. Here's the link. Thanks again, Todd amzn.to/34lBPVF

      I believe some manufacturers in Australia did sell batteries with this modification and charged like double lol.

    Man, I remember when a premium 3 year replacement battery was about $50-60 depending on the size. It's insane that now most premium batteries are wayyy over $100 and a good portion of them from AutoZone/Advance Auto Parts are over $200. That's not including the AGM batteries. They are $300 or more now...

    • @richguitar93
      @richguitar93 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Auto zone batteries and the rest are Hype. Even Interstate you Gotta watch who your buying it from. With the current administration taking a hatchet to the USA, I found great reliability for the Walmart Ever start battery and just replace it with a free one every 6-8 months because that's about how long they last. If they burn a cell, they replace free for 1 yr of purchase .Cars are junk too these newer ones. CVT transmission's, etc... Just buy a 2016 Toyota and stay away from kia and their inferior metal they use on their crankshaft. If you see green on the posts, you can sand them down and seal them with metal bond or Jb weld at the post seal where the connect and the gasses don't release and the batteries will last forever.

    • @meme5887
      @meme5887 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      If you notice, the everstart has a 5yr warranty. The current pics on Walmart show them with a 3yr warranty! Granted those are pics, not the actual product. But I'm assuming they're up to date since the warranty period dropped... Just like everything else rising/decreasing to the benefit of companies.

    • @eb0800
      @eb0800 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@meme5887The 3 year warranty is the free replacement period. No battery, with the exception of the platinum AGM batteries, has a free replacement period longer than 3 years. Depending on what quality level EverStart battery you are buying that 5 year warranty was for anywhere from 4 to 2 years of pro-rated warranty. Not a free replacement period.

      Reading this kind of comments, and remembering that there exist individuals like PF, that simply will never be bought, because a great purpose is more important than money, is really touching actually.
      Of course we are lucky that there are individuals that do great (or at least good) financially already, because otherwise it's quite easy for corporations/companies to, literally, buy people...
      So I wish to PF and all his family, and to ourselves, stay healthy.

      Sorry PF, the real battery testing is a real world atmosphere. Interstate batteries are very good in real world conditions. Walmart batteries are not worth it. Napa gold went bad for me in 2 years. You need to remember that dust on the batteries will drain it. Keep your batteries clean. I actually put 1” styrofoam underneath my 4 AGM batteries in my Peterbilt and now up to 4 years on them. Plus they power my refrigerator. Vibration can be a killer on batteries and the heat is harder on them than the cold for longevity. I run Duracell on my wheel horse rider and my Allis Chalmers CA tractor with very good results so far.

      Time to load test your battery,( this is cheap & will tell you if its time to replace it).. I used to be in the repair business & it's a false savings after a battery with low voltage shortens or even destroys your alternator or starter . It's much the same as putting an electric lawn mower at the end of a long skinny underrated extension cord .The motor struggles under low voltage & gets too hot..Ditto with the car starter, & the alternator will charge all the time trying to bring the voltage up to where sensitive computer controls can function properly.

    Used to work at Johnson Controls and tho the outside form is the same, internally there are important differences.
    Typically the less expensive batteries have thinner plates and not much room at the bottom to capture material that sloughs off the plates over time. If this plate material builds up enough it will cause a short between the plates and the battery is dead.
    Also, the brand has control over the design of the plates. The least expensive may have lead pickups shaped like a comb, where the better batteries gather electrons with a fractal design and are more able to handle heavier loads as well as charge more quickly. Because of the identical case, sometimes a lower cost label gets put on a better battery. And vice versa.

Sharing the cost between the products and the companies that sell them is also highly valuable. I've used Everstart batteries exclusively for 10yrs, never had a problem. And since I as well as my technician friends, with a combined 100yrs of experience have found most batteries made in the last 20yrs rarely last more than 3yrs, spending $40 for a battery with the same or less performance is just stupid.

But I do believe also that if whatever the battery was put in needs to be running pretty tip top shape as to not crank too much just to start daily .most batteries don't like to be worked real hard like being drained very much especially cheap batteries. Most of my experience over 35 yrs has brought me to this evaluation of this . And if you drain a battery dead then for instance charge it at say 10 amp for only long enough to start your car than that will damage the battery. If you drain the battery, charge it at 2 amp for 8 to 10 hours .that should replace the ampacity so it will hold a solid charge . I've had very good luck charging low and slow rather than boiling the battery at 10 or more amps .

    As someone who used Optima for many years with great success, there was quite a noticeable drop in quality after Johnson Controls bought them out, at which time the warranty was also reduced in the number of years it was valid. 20+ years ago I had a yellow top that had an entire cell crushed in an accident when it was already a few years old, and that battery continued to work well for another three years in another vehicle after the cell was crushed. That would never happen with an Optima now. Odyssey batteries are the way to go if you want a top-of-the-line battery these days.

    Been running Everstarts for a while, even in Montana where we see -30 at least once per winter....never had any issues. Nice to see the results back it up.

      I live in Ontario and work on cars as a hobby, 61 years was 11 when I started, here batteries need a lot of care. Started spending winters in AZ. a few years ago.
      I still play with cars and almost every one I deal with, buy or repair needs a battery, I think the heat is much harder on them than the cold.

      @RPT Enterprise Same here, bought two of them and they both were losing amperage. Got a prorated refund on both and haven't bothered with NAPA since.

    Very well thought out testing procedures, explanations and final graphical break down.
    I spent some of my years working in a materials testing lab. Our focus was ASTM standards for testing of materials. Materials for construction which included everything...EVERY MATERIAL down to its component level, even to the chemistry from which it was composed.
    ASTM testing protocols are a crazy maze of interdependant prerequisites. Many times mind boggling.
    So, I think you did a very fair, if not excellent job of simulating an ASTM test protocol.
    😊👍👍👍👍👍

    A few years back there were only 4 battery manufacturers in either the world, or the United States, which seemed odd because there were probably hundreds of brands. Also many brands used multiple manufacturers depending on line and type (agm, group number, gold/red/blue, platinum etc.) I always try and buy batteries who at least list the manufacturer, and have had terrific luck with Johnson controls, that being said I think the quality has dropped in the last 10 years.
    Most of the differences between the duralast and super start can be explained by production variance. Lead acid batteries are very low tech, and minor differences in things like plate thickness can make a big difference in performance.
    Lastly, the small battery tester used is not a good method to test batteries. They have come to prominence throughout the industry because they are quick and easy, cheap, and don't require much knowledge to use. I have seen them call good batteries bad and bad ones good, fairly often, while I have never seen a proper carbon pile load tester give an inaccurate reading when used correctly. The best method to test batteries is load tester that can put a load of at least half of the cranking amps rated. A full load test will ensure that the batteries voltage path is capable of transferring the full current of a load through the battery, and instead of basing the results off of calculations, produce a verified function under load. Much like a damaged wire that will ohm out as having good conductivity with an ohmmeter, a battery can have low internal resistance with no or low loads, but fail when a high load is applied.

      The quality of basically everything has shat the bed the last decade or so. Really sucks.
      My beloved Remington got bought out 8 or so years ago and now they're a damn joke. Sickening.
      And I agree on battery testers. AutoZone"tested" our Panasonic 12v AGM battery from our hybrid after a shipping company deep drained it for over 2 weeks. Thing was declared deader than dead.
      Trickle charged it for 2 days and now it's working the same as it was before the fools 'killed' it

    I bought 2 ever start group 27 batteries for my Cummins diesel after this video. Here I am over 5 years later and those 2 batteries have just become bad. Refered back to the video and am off to buy two more at Wal Mart! Thanks Project Farm!!!

    Really appreciate the summary. I'm sold on batteries from Walmart based on performance, value and warranty with two, so far. As stated early on in the video, battery prices have gone nuts; so easy to overpay unnecessarily.

      agreed used both die hard and ever start, for the money the ever start is the best value of cost and performance. I tested my ever start batter that I have used every day for 5 years and it still came out as good.
