    My old Sears Diehard Platinum Charger I purchased 15 years ago just bit the dust yesterday 9/6/24, Just purchased this directly from Optima seeing I have a Optima Bluetop 27M for my RV.

    I have one of these and Love it, it has paid for itself by bringing completely drained batteries back to life.

    I have a 4 yellow top Optima batteries. Have 4 automatic chargers (all different) that will NOT charge these batteries all the way up. I have to use a 6 amp manual charger to get the voltage up to 15.6 volts while still connected (I believe 14.7 volts for a regular lead acid battery). I use a load tester to check voltage while connected to charger, without load. Then I disconnect charger and check voltage with load (around upper 12 volts). This works GREAT. Considering buying Optima 400 charger ? How high will this charge the battery ????????

    Buyer be aware!! Just to let everyone to now this. I have the digital 1200 battery charger. It fell of the stand the other day and the plastic handle broke. I called optima to buy a new handle and they DO NOT SELL PARTS FOR for me to fix it. It's so great having a expensive charger and can't fix it!

    Interesting, I've had my yellow top for about 2 1/2 years. It still runs fine without issue, but I was considering getting a new yellow top. Will this charger give my battery 100 percent charge. I don't know what percentage my battery is now, but I'm getting ready to make a road trip and I wanna make sure my battery is 100 percent charged and good to go.

    I have never had an Optima battery but have had this charger for a few years now and it has been the best charger I ever owned. Easily handled an assortment of large and small (motorcycle/Generator/etc) batteries. I have not had it magically bring a bad battery back to life on it's own, but have successfully resuscitated some it said were bad by connected a somewhat good battery across it to get it started. Modern smart battery charges need to be able to deliver at least a small bit of current or they will determine that the battery is bad and not even try.
    I think a lot of old timers write these chargers off because they do not have a huge (heavy) transformer but they are far superior to your grandfather's roller! The only other one I would trust at this point would be the NOCO Genius 10 at half the price.

    I'm concerned someone made a comment that this 1200 charger fried his yellowtop and it was bubbling up and Optima told him it was his battery that was bad...

    When a battery is old, has a damaged cell, is stratified and sulfated - just don't think that you can use a high priced battery charger to restore all of your dead batteries. Sometimes, you have to accept that an old battery is no good. Batteries don't last forever. Battery chargers are okay if you have a car or motorcycle that you just don't drive much, and you can park it where you can leave it plugged into a battery charger. But if the battery on a motorcycle, car, truck, or boat has sat there a few years without being charged - good luck.

    Lost my maintainer cable and struggling to find a replacement. The maintainer socket on the charger does not appear to be a standard socket.
    Can anyone point me in a direction to find a replacement cable, or have some knowledge on that connector so that can source and fabricate my own?

      WN Continental Broadcasting I’m surprised your yellow AND blue tops failed. That’s not good. I wouldn’t say this charger will fix this. Are the batteries on a boat or car, or something different?

      @@Shoptoolreviews Im was surprised too but its extremely common. 2 yellow tops where in 2 fords e350 vans as starting , (Calgary weather) 2 blues were used as AUX batteries (factory option) each van Warranty was non existent. As a matter a fact I didnt go back to the Auto part because the owner was struggling with Optima problems . 1 Blue i was able to make get some use at today for about 660CCA even though its rated for 900CCA I use to buy a lot of optimas in the early 2000s as we provide film vehicles (both for production and post production like Toyota Supras) to tv/film/sets and didnt have a problem what so ever.

    I have this charger it's nice but when you hook it up it take a few minutes to Initialize

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Yes, I meant to mention this in the review. It does take a couple of minutes to analyze the battery. However, I don't see this as instant solution, this is a battery charger that typically charges for hours, not a jump box.. Therefore, the couple minutes of analyzing really doesn't count against any features or performance. But, in our world of instant gratification, I have noticed what you mention.

      @@Shoptoolreviews What's the benefit of this over the Digital 400 which is over half the price? Does the digital 1200 need to be hooked into a wall to charge the battery? Or can it charge the battery away from an outlet?
      And how long would it take to charge a fully depleted AGM battery - say an Optima BlueTop with 12V 55Ah? (Like this: www.amazon.com/Optima-Batteries-8016-103-BlueTop-Starting/dp/B00075OSCO )

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@ITakeYourFood The digital 400 is only a max of 4 Amps, and the 1200 is a max of 12 amps output. The 1200 will charge a dead battery much faster.
      Assuming the the Optima Blue (as you described) is totally dead, it should take the Optima 1200 about 4-5 hours to fully charge the battery.
      The best thing for a dead battery is to just let it charge overnight. The Optima 1200 smart charger will switch into maintainer mode to trickle charge the last bits.

    I have a dead red top....I bought this charger and got the voltage up to about 12.34 but the gauge on the charger says the battery is only 50 percent charged🤔🤔 even though the gauge says 12.9 volts. But when I unhooked the charger the battery dropped to 10.74 overnight. I'm confused...do I just leave it on the charger until it says 100% or will my battery explode? It hasn't been getting hot at all.

    • @Shoptoolreviews
      @Shoptoolreviews  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The battery should not explode with this charger. This charger should continually read the battery condition and supply the Amps needed. You should notice on the display, that after the charger gets near full, then it drops the Amps down to a trickle-charge. Basically, you can leave this charger on the battery and it shouldn't overheat at all.
      You may have a dead cell in that battery. Thanks for watching.

    This chargers sucks big time.
    Constantly says my battery is bad.
    I have an interstate battery.
    I break out my old transformer battery charger and it charges no problem.
    I let my track car idle for a while while im checking other things on the car since its a road race track car.
    So im just double checking and cleaning things.
    Then i decide the put the battery back on the Optima charger and it still says the battery is bad.
    The cord management sucks.
    Major pain in the ass to wrapnof the charging cords and make it all fit back in the storage compartment.
    You have to wrap it perfect for it all fit

      Thank you for commenting and we apologize for our initial review being a little off. After further use (over a year), we are noticing some issues as well. We are trying to determine whether to release a follow-up review or just pull the video down. We are trying to determine the actual problem/s with the charger. It seems that some batteries, it indicates the charge pretty well, but others, it mis-diagnoses them. We can't seem to just put our finger on it. Again, I'm sorry for any discrepencies.
      As for the cord management, we really haven't had an issue with this. We did pull all the unused terminal ends out from the compartment, allowing for more room for just the alligator clamps and wires. Thanks for watching and commenting.

      @@Shoptoolreviews all good.
      Yeah the Optima charger constantly says batteries are bad yet they alway start the cars I'm working on after being charged by my old charger.
      I alway wrap up my cords and yes true if you empty out the compartment it has room but i would like to keep it all together instead of storing the other cords somewhere else.
      I'd leave them out and use the maintenance feature but it wont charge the battery lol

      @@Shoptoolreviews Do you have any new thoughts on the 400 or 1200? I have a Red Top in my '68 Camaro and am trying to figure out if there are any features on the 1200 that make it worth twice as much as the 400. Does the 400 automatically "switch" to maintainer mode after charging? You mentioned the 1200 switches to maintainer mode. I'm just wondering if, at the Optima charger/maintainer price point, there is really a "need" to pay so much for a charger when there are other AGM charger/maintainers on the market that cost a LOT less. Thoughts, please?
