- Video shows the moments surrounding a near-deadly shooting over curly fries at a Texas Jack-in-the-Box drive-thru in 2022. Alonniea Fantasia Ford, the woman who shot at the family, was charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and later pleaded guilty to a lesser charge of deadly conduct. The family is now suing the restaurant chain and Ford. The Law&Crime Network’s Sam Goldberg discusses the lawsuit with the father, Anthony Ramos, and the family’s attorney, Randall Kallinen. I genuinely want to see someone tell me how this isn’t attempted murder
No kidding. I guess a bullet had to have injured him or his daughter? This woman should be in prison. She's dangerous (beings, it wasn't the first criminal charge she's had against her).
I believe in Texas penal code it necessitates harm, with premeditation, with intent of killing the individual. I didn't see if they were injured or not so I can't say. But one thing is assault with a deadly weapon and attempted murder in Texas have the exact same punishments. Both are second degree felonies and both carry up to 20 years in prison. So regardless it doesn't matter which she's sticked with. But a key reason it's ADW and not attempted murder is ADW isn't difficult to prove intent, it merely requires the normal prudencey of an individual to judge intent to cause harm while attempted murder needs the proof that it was meant to kill.
It's much easier to get the jury on ADW while also being the same punishment so I'm confused why people are upset.
People are upset because she only got 1 year deferred adjudication for this.

@@tressietes04 Well that isn't the question that was asked, and yes while that does suck people are literally just asking about the attempted murder thing which is very easily explained like I just did.
There is a common misconception in comments sections all the time that assault with a deadly weapon is some lowly charge compared to attempted murder. In most states they are the same seriousness. In fact, some states use ADW as their atmpt murder statute. I think its useful to teach people the easily misunderstood nuances of criminal law.

Did not realize Jack In The Box let their employees' carry firearms and just shrug it off saying they "can't control" it when one of them brandishes it against a customer especially as the assailant. I'm pretty sure just doing a BGC on her prior to employment could be considered as the "bare minimum" of preventing a situation they claim they "can't control".

$250k is a super low amount. Jack in the Box customer service is the worst I've ever experienced. Not surprised this happened in the least. You'll never see this sort of behavior at Chic-Fil-A. I'd award him $2million to $3 million for this. Shocked he's not asking for more.

Those curly fries are pretty good but I don't know if they're worth dying for. This employee is absolutely ridiculous for taking it so far, she could have easily been charged with attempted murder. The man is also ridiculous for choosing to sit in the drive through for 10 minutes and argue while his daughter cries in the back seat when it was very clear he was not getting those curly fries.

The employee made it worse by jus not allowing him to pay for the curly fries and go on bout his business. Then on top of that wanna throw stuff first. Personally I wouldn’t sit ten mins arguing with someone over fries but then again when I went to McDonald’s and they didn’t give me my burger I went back to drive thru and let them know and they gave me my sandwich. All she had to do was charge him and give him his fries.
