And you have to be careful with how you treat people because you never know how that person will respond or what that person is dealing with internally. Both are wrong and this could have easily ended up in a senseless murder and for what!? Some mayonnaise! Unless your life is threatened there's no reason to use a gun. And there's no need to be disrespectful to people.

It's so wrong. I feel bad for the employee because she didn't deserved to be mistreated, and it got worse for her once her action has gotten her in huge trouble. I have a record with domestic back when I had anger issues. After therapy and psychology visits, I found out that I had big amounts of trauma buried deep inside. It took the right triggers for it all to come out. In that state- you feel as if you have nothing left to lose, completely disregarding what you do have. So you get self destructive in order to reinforce your idea of “justice”.

The irony is she could've called the cops and had him arrested for simple assault. I am a restaurant manager and yep we've had crazy folks toss food at us. Every time I just call the police and they get themselves arrested. I've watched someone leave in cuffs for tossing a handful of sugars. It's just a misdemeanor for simple assault but it sends a message to them alright.
I have thought about how I would potentially put someone down if they ever came across my counter at me or grabbed one of my underage associates but man when I think about it I always imagine someone SCREAMING death threats, THROWING FISTS, PULLING KNIVES on me or my workers...not tossing a mayo packet. My late husband was a McDonald's general manager, and he once had to grab a 17 year old female employee and pull her back in the drive thru window because the "customer" decided he wanted to kidnap and rape her! She's alive thanks to my husband, unfortunately back in the early 90's the cameras were not as clear as they are these days. He's been dead 6 years, and he predicted the self service kiosk, the stores having less cashiers because of it and the "fight for $10/hr" and increasing food costs.
He predicted all of it, what he didn't see coming was the pandemic, and some restaurants so desperate for help in the kitchen that they offer a $1000 sign on bonus or retention bonus 😳.
Once a customer refused to pull up in the drive thru line because they had a large order and were blocking other cars.
One person only wanted coffee, but the other car insisted on not pulling up and blocking the drive thru!
Robert reached in the register, tried to refund the money since the woman insisted on blocking the drive thru, she refused the refund, and said he WILL serve her the food, and she doesn't care about the person behind her only wanting coffee!
He threw her refund into her window since she refused to take it in her hand. He the told her to leave, she was no longer welcomed there and was trespassing!
She still refused to leave, by then, the drive thru had cars wrapped around the building all because she ordered $78 worth of food in the drive thru instead of pulling forward and someone would bring it to her, or just coming inside in the first place!
Police were called, she was issued a notice if she returned, the police will arrest her for trespassing.
He had to give food and discounts to the other cars that were wrapped around the building because of her.

I personally do not know what is going through people's heads that give them the desire to physically attack an employee over a grievance with the business, or bad customer service. Most employees have absolutely no control over what pissed you off about the business, and if an employee gives you bad customer service, you can leave a bad review, and/or complain to management, and if management can't make things right, you can take your business elsewhere. If you feel the desire to attack an employee, you are probably suffering from a mental illness, and either need help, or you need to be locked away. That being said, physical retaliation will hurt yourself way worse than the attacker. It's one thing to defend yourself, but the employee in this case walked out of the restraunt, and fired shots at the fleeing car. That is not self defense. Now, she would likely loose her job, spend years in jail, and no one would want to hire her any time soon. Had she just got the cars license plate, and pressed charges, she could have ruined the customers life, and maby even got some money out of it, but she traded it for about 10 seconds of a satisfied ego.

Having worked retail for years, I get her frustration. The majority of customers are fine. But you get some real entitled jerks who have this viewpoint that you, the lowly retail worker, fast food worker, or waiter are beneath them. That you are there to serve them, and everything should be perfect without you making any mistakes and every coupon/sale (either real or imagined) should work.
However, you have to be able to control yourself as the worker. If the guy pulled a gun on her, I would be fine with her shooting him since that was real self-defense (edit: assuming she was near her gun; she wasn't really near her gun when the mayo was thrown). Mayonnaise though? No. What he allegedly did was disgusting and degrading to her. It did not warrant her to pull a gun (allegedly). And to what end? Now, she's being charged, she definitely lost her job, and she is in for a rough time. She let her emotions get the best of her. You have to shrug off the jerks.
