With its rear-drive layout, available V8 power, and luxuriously appointed cabin, the 2015 Kia K900 has all the makings of a true flagship luxury sedan packed with technology and features for far less money than more prestigious rivals. If you dare to challenge the luxury you know, this new flagship may be worth a look for those of you seeking something different.

Why do you drive it so aggressively when it's clearly meant to be a luxurious ride, not a sports car? This test should include measuring cabin noise at idle and highway speed, and talking about how smooth the shifts are.

I think it's rather ridiculous to want to "carve corners" in a 4-5000 lb luxury sedan. A car like this is about comfort, ride quality, and isolation from noise and "road nasties". The trouble with all of the AMG and M sedans from Mercedes and BMW is that they really don't ride very well and are fatiguing on long journeys. I applaud Kia for going the old-school luxury route with this car. If you want to carve corners, buy a new Corvette Z06, or something comparable, as your second car. If you want to cruise effortlessly in serene comfort, buy this.

I purchased one in August... Before the K900, I was driving a BMW 7 series. So far, I am VERY happy with the K900. More cool tech and luxury features than the other vehicles I was considering. I was hesitant at first, like everyone else, I was sure I wouldn't want to own a Kia. After several test drives of several vehicles, I became sold on the K900. I could have purchased most any full size luxury car, and this car won me over, hands down. I've been stopped at intersections several times when people with roll down their window and ask about the car. "Is that a K900?" Lots of people seem to be researching the new Kia line and are very curious because of the new innovative and quality designs. Kia ain't what is used to be! My K900 is not a big sports car, and doesn't drive like one...instead it delivers what it promises...responsive power, quiet smooth ride, room to spare for my family...and luxurious amenities that make the driving experience something I look forward to every time I get in.

Gotta comment again. Would I pay $66k for a premium luxury sedan built by KIA. ABSOLUTELY! As a matter of fact, I hope to. In my opinion, this is the best car in its class. I think it's beautiful and looks better than the Mercedes S-Class, BMW 7-Series, and Audi A8-at half the price. And it has exactly what I want in a luxury car-comfort, isolation, cushy ride, and an extremely quiet cabin. I want to feel relaxed and refreshed after a long road-trip, not tired and achy. For "fun" driving and canyon-carving, I'll buy the new VW GTI or the upcoming Golf R. And I can get both cars for under $100k, or a bit more with the Golf R. Then I'll have the best of both worlds and be happy as a clam in a reef tank. Bravo KIA!

And American performance cars challenging euro performance, with new Mustang GT/ GT350 vs. BMW M3, and new Corvette C7's challenging 911's also, both, at half the price!

i got to drive one of these for a little 50 mile trip and GOD was this thing good... its a shame people wont give it a chance because of the kia badge when this K900 is better than what most of infinfi, acura, buick or lincoln can offer.

***** a kia optmus? the kia kia optima is not even in the same class that the k900 is in.... completely different segments and cars.
ironically i had a 09 M3 for a few months and its transmission blew up on me my friends have all had issues with BMW, but each person experiences different things, the K900 is incredible value, genuine luxury features, real exotic materials, and a smooth V8... you should drive one before talking shit.

    • @coureurdebois
      @coureurdebois 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

***** im not comparing a optima to a M4 or M3 they are very different cars, im comparing a k900 to a 5 series base trim model because thats the value you get in a k900... more features, just as much high quality materiels, and a cheaper maintenance bill
sorry to say BMW is not well known for reliability.

I hope this has paddle shifters. I like holding gears, especially in heavy cars like these. Makes them feel lighter and sportier and saves the brake pad wear. I can see my self hustling this on my random commutes. I hope 2nd & 3rd gear aren’t too long and stays in the power band. Gotta test drive a V8.

It's funny how people judge just because is kia. I rather drive a kia k9 for that price than drive a fucking BMW or Benz. Can u buy a BMW or Benz with $60.000 having the same amazing car package that k9 offer? No u won't even get close , But some people rather pay 60 thousand on BMW or Benz but I guarantee that u won't have half of the luxury package on those cars for that money. You will have to spend at least 80 to 90 thousand so you can have k9 package on BMW or Benz. I rather pay something I can afford but still having all the luxury inside in the car than drive BMW just so people can say omg you are driving BMW ... Yeah u are driving a BMW but a shit one. I don't leave my life by appearance but what I can pay but still have what I want. Sry my grammar isn't that good. I had a Audi S4 2009 and I got optima sxl 2013 and I love that car. It is comfortable, extremely quite and have everything inside. Yeah Audi was a great car but not comfortable as my optima maybe because is a new car but I had many problems with Audi and so expensive to fix it. It is a good price and completely change my optima and looks sick .

I don't get why so many people think Kia as such a low quality with a low brand value. But actually, Kia isn't that bad as people think. It has quiet a lot of luxurious features and it's designs are pretty impressive. And yes I as well thought that Kia isn't as luxurious as the Mercedes, Audi, or the BMW, but my thought changed after I got in this K900. I got that impression 'wow, is this really a Kia? astonishing than i thought!'. I think Kia is quite favorable regarding that people can enjoy luxury and comfort in a very reasonable price. So I have a purchase intention for buying a Kia next time too.

The 2015 model year is a bargain today compared to the BMW and Mercedes competitors. I'm driving a G37 and while it's great for spirited driving I hate that car after 3 hours in the seat.
Luxury to me is comfortable interior, whisper quiet ride, buttery smooth suspension, decent acceleration and passing ability.
I don't drive on a skid pad, I don't drive 1/4 mile runs. Just give me decent handling to emergency maneuver with good brakes and I'm fine.

We thought it was gonna be a great car too. Maybe this one isn't defective. Our 2015 K900 VIP, just like the one in this video, has been in the shop 29 of 55 days we've owned it since 3/9/15. The parking brake has a defect that makes the car shudder like you've been hit, when in reverse. It came back from Cottonwood Kia after being there over 3 weeks and the noise is worse, 2 paint gouges on the front hood, uninstalled trim loose on the floor, and wadded candy wrapper under the seat, and they put over 600 miles on the car, when the problem has been backing up from a stop. We bought this car so my 100% combat disabled vet husband could travel with out pain, esp. on bumpy roads or longer trips. it was a stretch but his back injuries are inoperable. Its a beautiful car but our car and Kia service is a disaster. We see this car more on the tow truck than we get to drive it. Our recent cars were Honda and a Toyota so we forgot how much of a nightmare a car can be.

There are a lot of elements in the interior that seem to be lifted off of German competitors. For example the gear shifter is straight from the BMWs, and the Infotainment controls seems to follow closely with Audi. Not to mention how the display screen is integrated in the dashboard just like in the 5 series and the seat controls are on the side door. Otherwise the interior looks quite good;)

The wealthy became comfortable by buying smart and most do not really care what someone else thinks of their automotive purchases. The whole idea around the K900 is more luxury for around 40-60 thousand dollars savings over it's German/Japanese/Italian competitors and as for build quality all of the German brands except for Audi are not in the top 15 percent for initial reliability or build quality where as Kia is in the top 15 percent.
The German brands are well engineered and wonderful to drive, but they are also expensive to maintain and once again after you have worked hard to accumulate wealth you are not as inclined to spend it on something just because of the label. And Kia makes a fine product, with a great warranty. If a company builds a good product for a fair price then great.
After all I am the one driving the car not my neighbor or the guy siting next to me at a stop light and I could not care less what he/she is thinking about my car, if I like it then that's all that really matters to me.

If you did sone research you'd know the NEW Equis is selling fully loaded for about $10,000.00 of sticker price. Making it cheaper then the K900 and more on par with the loaded Genesis. And comparing a Audi A8 to the K900 is like comparing A Forte to a 3 Series BMW. The base A8 comparably equipped as the K900 is over $20K more and that's the base model.

Who cares about the badge? It's all the same regardless. Acura is a Honda, Infiniti is a Nissan, Kia is a Kia. Especially when the Japanese luxury brands only exist in the States.
    Anyways.
Looks like KIA just stole everything from a German design. At least they can try like the Japanese and try to be somewhat different.
This car looks extremely nice. But this company has very little heritage and to me German cars just seem to be more original.

They do a better job of building cars than their sibling, Hyundai, but comparing it to an S Class or 7 Series - I don't think so. They have a long way to go to come close to them and the first thing they need to do is do what Toyota and Nissan did and start a separate luxury brand.

This is just my opinion, but no rear wheel drive luxury car is complete without a super tight turning radius. It either needs about 4 steering wheel turns lock to lock or rear wheel steering to do this, so to me, very few luxury cars are complete. Oh well.

  • @D______

Here is my Kia experience. Anyone in my position has encountered the same thing from Kia. If you cannot supply them with up to date maintenance records on your vehicle they will not cover it. So for instance, if you change your own oil you're screwed. Might work if you saved all your receipts but very few people are in the habit of saving receipts of them doing their own oil changes. This ploy Kia uses is well documented if you want to look it up, I have, and it’s out there. Also my car would be covered under the SC147 recall as the symptoms of my engine seizing up (engine needs replaced) followed the exact same symptomology as those the manufacturing defect notes in the recall. The recall notice even appears on my Carfax report. Again you can find all the recall information online. The reason my car isn't part of the SC147 recall according to Kia is because it is MPI instead of GDI. All the rest of the engine is the exact same, 2.4L theta II. Kia says that because my car uses a different kind of fuel injection method that it cannot be affected by the metal filings left in the engine block which is what the SC147 recall is all about. That's totally absurd on its face but that's Kia's position.
The vehicles Kia did recall was done after many government threats as well as numerous lawsuits brought by disgruntled Kia owners for which there are many. Kia's mother company, Hyundai actually recalled their vehicles for the same problem immediately when the issue was discovered. It took Kia several years later to admit to the problem and issue a recall even though they were well aware of the problem. Where was Kia's concern for people being killed due to this manufacturing defect? A car having its engine seize up on the interstate would be something that would concern most companies immediately but not Kia. Unless Kia completely changes the way it does business they will continue to cost consumers thousands of dollars for defective cars and probably end up killing people due to their own negligence.
I had to argue, write emails, file complaints with various entities, etc just to get Kia to actually LOOK at my engine at no cost to me to determine the how and why of the engine failure. Kia refused to cover my car even though it is under warranty and furthermore refused to even LOOK at my car to see what caused the failure. I'm still waiting for a callback from Kia with their assessment. Kia actually agreed to take my valve cover off to take a look at my car once I complained as high up as I could to Kia. This was after several months of my car sitting dead on the Auffenberg Kia lot in Metro east St Louis. Kia actually told me I'd have to pay $1500 up front to have my engine failure looked into initially. My constant pressure on Kia finally got them to say they would take my valve cover off for no fee which costs Kia less than $50 in labor. Kia had no desire whatsoever to know what caused my engine to seize up. Their ONLY concern was to avoid any acknowledgement of any responsibility or liability. Kia already knew what caused the engine to fail. The same thing that happened to hundreds of thousands of the same engines made by Kia and Hyundai. It was the exact same problem as the Kia SC147 recall. Taking the valve cover off will not help. There was no oil leak. No oil smell. Never any indication of any problem with the valve cover. It's simply a ploy for Kia to say we looked at your engine and it's your fault. Who would trust their assessment at this point anyway? I'm out thousands of dollars I still owe on a car without a working engine. Don't you think any car maker worth a darn would want to know why one of their vehicles engines just seized up on the highway? Kia's been super lucky so far no one has died due to their negligence.
Additionally a co-worker of mine had a problem with his Kia and will not buy one again either. For his Kia the car required a specific oil filter made and installed by Kia and if that was not used the engine fails. He was never told this when he purchased the vehicle. His insurance successfully sued Kia for over $7,000 for his engine failure. Unfortunately my insurance doesn't cover mechanical issues.
Ever wonder why your Kia never quite gets the gas mileage it was rated to get? Kia has also paid out for a class action lawsuit because they lied about the MPG of many of their models. The very MPG rating that many people base a large percentage of their purchase decision on. Yeah, Kia lied about that too but kept it hush hush. You can find the information online if you look for it.
I had my car into the dealership (Auffenberg) several times before the engine failure telling them something is bad wrong with the car. The Kia service department ran every kind of computer diagnostic and could find no reason for the problems which included knocking, major loss of power, major loss of fuel economy and car dying at both idle and speed. Check engine light was always on and every sensor it said was malfunctioning was replaced and it didn't help. Unfortunately I could not leave my car with Kia. Kia wouldn't supply me with a free rental. They said it was against company policy. My step daughter was dying needing a second liver transplant as all this was going on and I couldn't be without that vehicle. With only one vehicle (other than the Kia) I wouldn't be able to get to work or my step daughter wouldn't be able to be cared for properly. I told Kia this and still they refused to get me a rental while they actually got to the root of my car problem and addressed it. Instead they said sorry to hear that, we can't find any problem with your car. They actually let me leave with a car they KNEW was dangerous and about to fail. They didn't care that my family was going through a serious medical situation with my step daughter and the car behaving as it was only increased the stress on my entire family during this time. Fortunately my step daughter got her transplant just in time and is doing ok now. Not only did Kia sell me a defective product but all this happened as our family is going through the stress of a child being deathly ill, lots of additional costs for medical related expenses and Kia was told this and didn't care. Kia added thousands of dollars to my already stressed finances by selling me a defective vehicle.
But it gets even better. The Kia rep in Arizona named Steve that handles my case and many others actually told me on the phone that some of Kia's cars die early and that's just the way it is. He insisted all other car manufacturers have the same problem and also refuse to repair the vehicles leaving their customers screwed too. That's certainly not my experience nor that of anyone I know. Steve at Kia flat out told me Kia isn't going to pay and I'm out of luck because I got a bad Kia and have to eat it. That's what he said. That's Kia’s customer service that said that to me.
I have to shake my head and laugh every time I call Kia and their recording says "Rated #1 in initial quality 2 years in a row!" Yeah, and dies in 78,000 miles and Kia refuses to make a full recall or honor it's warranty. You won't see Kia winning any customer service awards or vehicle longevity awards.
My advice to anyone that has a Kia (ESPECIALLY if it's a 2.4L) is to trade it in and get something other than a Kia before it dies and your left paying off a car that doesn't run. I liked Kia at one time or I wouldn't have bought one. What I've found out since has opened my eyes to the quality of their vehicles and their denials of their own manufacturing defects even if it could cost lives or severely screw consumers over financially. Buying a Kia might make you think you're getting more quality for less money but it's all based upon lies and cover-ups. That is my Kia experience and it's the WORST experience I've had with any company on any level at any time in my 31 (47 - 16) years of driving cars.

Why do you people keep saying if it was a luxury brand I would buy it. That don't make sense! Its very nice, has more standard features than other brands and most of all it turns peoples heads! I would be proud to drive a luxury car made from KIA because they have done a great job. It matters about the car not the brand. KIA and HYUNDAI don't need a luxury counterpart because they are doing great at making luxury cars as far as making them look good, have good built quality, and outstanding performance.

Flame me for saying it, but hyundai still seems to design their cars with a collection of design elements from other brands, and hasn't really brought any stand-out features here - that's just not good enough in the luxury class. Example 1 the VW phaeton, widely regarded as a failure in the US, had its own identity, and came with premier features like a chassis shared with a Bentley, a 12-cylinder engine, etc. It was a bonafide world class luxury sedan. Hyundai's pricing the Equus and K900 similar to the VW (adjusted slightly for inflation), and at those prices, I'm not even convinced this is better in any way than a decade old V8 phaeton. Both hyundai and vw cars had/have outrageous depreciation, so I feel sorry for somebody who buys this new
