Kio Yoon Nope, they are just not great cars full of stolen technology and design. They had to turn to Europe to make the loo good and drive to the segment standard. The head of R&D is ex Audi most of the design staff are ex PSA and much of the engineering team are ex BMW and SAAB.
Kio Yoon Lexus is 90s, it was only on sale from late 89. The big difference is that Lexus was created by Toyota's own designers and engineers, they didn't buy in a team to make a competitive car. Yes it heavily referenced the S Class at the time, but it included many world firsts and refinements on class standards. Kiayundai benchmark VW as their target and try to make a car that i comparable. They have never created world firsts for technology and are not innovators. Every detail is seen on another car. Until Kiayunda become innovators, they cannot be serious competitors to the European or Japanese establishment.
I never really accepted Kia as a luxury car maker and probably wont be for awhile. However, your points are valid in every single way. Its is a good bang for your buck type of deal. Great review!
That “Kia” badge is it’s best advantage. Used prices reflect this, even as a CPO - under a 8/10 year powertrain warranty. Also ... it so beautifully gets unnoticed. I had a 7-series, but now I don’t want to be noticed; so either the K900 or its sibling, the Equus are both contenders for my next car. They are both very compelling option, especially used. Thanks for the video.
I get more wows than the Lexus did. I proudly traded my 09 Lexus Ls460 hybrid for a white K900. I love telling everyone "Its a Kia!" My friends and family are more impressed with the Kia than they did the Lexus!
After having two LS400's and putting about 120K miles on each of them, when I retired I got a 2015 K900 (V8) white in and out and have had the same experience as you. People came up to me at gas stations, store parking lots etc. and say "That's a Kia?!" I still have it and it still looks and drives like new. Love it. Let the badge snobs buy smaller and less equipped Benzes, BMWs, etc. for the same price. I'll keep my K900 than you. And when it was time to get a new vehicle for my wife, we bought a 2020 Telluride (white also) and both of us love it too.
*The problem with this being a Kia is: if you're rich enough for an S-class/7series or equivalent, you're not really gonna care that you can buy a Kia for less, because you have the money. When the K900 comes in, is when you have enough for an E-class/5series or equivalent, and you don't care having a Kia instead because you'd rather be in for its value.*
This car isn't made for that market. Its made for the middle class home nester who wants a luxurious car without spending their whole retirement saving. Or smart consumers who want bang for the buck.
my asumption is that this car is marketed toward the other side of the railroad track people, your nissan crowd really, chrysler 300 people, the people that buy a used s class with 100k miles, expect alot of these in impound lots once the cars 20 year payments catch up to the owners.
Hey Miles, First off, I like your style! Second, You are 100% right about the snobbery from a BADGE. Yes, Those badges have HERITAGE But should we really be paying 50-100% more for that HERITAGE? Thanks for your great journalism.
well alot of the point of the badge is more than snobbery, with a badge you trust comes quality and reliability as well as resale value, all of those things matter alot to a buyers regardless of snobbery. This car is great, but the badge is a problem when you can have a decently optioned Porsche macan instead.
In 2019, you can get one with low mileage for less than $25k. Totally going to check it out in person. The performance, comfort, and features is a good deal. Also, Kia/Hyundai is one of the upcoming most reliable vehicles up to date. Parts doesn't cost a fortune and everything is low maintance.
This new guy did a good job !!!! you should do a review of this vs the hyundai flagship and the Lexus LS... it would be interesting to see the diff then pick the one winner to face off the german beasts :)
***** Thanks for the excellent review Miles - you really managed to cover points of interest for people cross shopping with the K900 and it's German rivals. Charismatic.
Good fun, entertaining, honest review! I liked the thumb up your ass reference to a million driving modes, that made me laugh :) Keep up the work Miles and FLD!
Great review, I really like the reviewer, personally care less for the car, but the review was fair and all points made were fair, really hope to see this reviewer more often!
This is an amazing car. I've driven one. It's luxurious, super comfortable, and fun to drive. One day people will get their heads out their asses and realize that Beemers are pieces of crap that are overpriced and require way too much maintenance $. Nothing more than a status symbol- I made it. If your into quality these cars are amazing. If you haven't driven one, don't even comment negatively- you're speaking out of ignorance.
+Ben Her My mom had a 1997 740 IL and that car cost her $4,500 a year in maintenance on average, BMW stands for BREAK-MY-WALLET. They drain your wallet and give you grief. Who needs that crap?
Ben Her if you never driven an s class, remove your comment because you are ignorant. I have driven both and the s class is much, much better. It has adaptive suspension and a sensor that reads the road in front in order to adjust and prepare the suspension before impact. If you don't have the money to equip a german car, i agree that you are buying it for the symbol. But when you can fully equip a german car, you get something a mile ahead the competition. German giants understand that some people buy for the symbol, so who in there right mind would not make a car for this kind of client? Its easy money and its called marketing. But that also know that some clients buy for the real reason so they also make the best for those people.
WTF? They paid $69k for it. Cash down. That's the initial $$. Then after the warranty ran out they were paying $4500 a year on maintenance alone. That was over a 7 year period. Can you even do simple arithmetic, you egghead.
imbluz 4500$ a year on maintenance for a flag ship luxury is actually normal. My had an a8 and spent the same every year but it was all prevention repairs. German cars want you car to stay in perfect shape so they repaire the smallest thing before they break to save you problems. It's part of the service. If you pay a 70 000$ car and cry about 4500$ a year for maintenance. It's because you don't have the budget for this kind of car. Sorry mate
I like the sincerity and honesty in this review...I wholly agree on his assessment that this is a fantastic value purchase for those who are wise with their money. Also, I think Kia SHOULD come up with a better badge, that badge just reeks of decades old "Could not think of anything better design wise"...let's put some more effort into like you have with the rest of the car...!
I agree that around 60k, you're not getting the equivalent German rival, with all those features at least. But I can't help but think that you could get an earlier 2011 or even newer model BMW 3 series, maybe 5 for less than that. It'll have more miles, but for 60k you will find a slightly older model of a more respectable brand, which have earned their "seal of luxury" or so have you.
This guy is good at what he does and funny. I'm starting to think about going this direction since they changed the shape of the BMW 750Li to non-remarkable a few years ago.
I sat in one of these today at a car show. It was the biggest surprise of the show! I also sat in an LS460 fsport, an A8L, a Jag XJL, Equus, a Panamera GTS as well as a 650i (no 7 series or Mercedes present). The Kia was more impressive than all except for the Panamera. After what I saw today I would only go Audi for the S8, Only go Lexus if I was 70 years old (maybe the ls600 is better?), skip the jag unless I'm buying an f-type, skip hyundai altogether and the decide if I want 2 Kias (60k each) or one Panamera (130k for the gts). Many people hate the panamera for its exterior, but sit inside and it may be one of the best interiors on a modern car.
Stefan Serbia Nothing particularly wrong with the Kia, but it certainly does not have the same status as other luxury cars. And that is important to some people.
Stefan Serbia I see where you are coming from, you prefer a better value for you money. Some people are willing to pay a premium for prestige, particularly with luxury items. Different strokes for different folks.
i actually really likethis car. Kia is really stepping up there game with this car. From kia, you wouldnt expect a verrrry luxurious car, let alone a 5L V8!. thats insane... especially from a company everybody was waiting for the day they go out of business.
Brand image? When you know who you are and what you have then it's not a problem. With a 10 year, 100,000 mile warranty you're using your brain. Very cool sneakers Miles. Quite stylish!
The only problem I see is going to get you car serviced at a luxury dealership vs a non luxury dealership are two very different experiences. That's why I like the fact that other car manufacturers gives their luxury cars a different brand.
It's nice to see another Car guy defending KIA which is a brand that is often the butt of many jokes and anecdotes. But KIA has done some pretty special things with their models in the past 5 years. These cars are LOOKING GOOD! The Optima and Sorrento are the coolest looking in my opinion. The K900 is not the best looking sedan in its class, but the overall value is definitely its strongest selling point. All these silly creature comforts like heated steering wheel, heated seats, automatic head rest adjusters, etc. are somewhat superfluous. But to get a Mercedes or BMW with similar features and appointments for $40 more is just foolishness. GO KIA!
In terms of cheaper luxury, excluding the Germans, Lincolns and Cadillacs dominated before the 90s. In the 90s and 00s, it was Lexus, Infinity, and Acura. Now, because of the recession, it might be Kia's and Hyundai's turn.
Nappa just means smooth grained. It does not denote a distinct quality of hide or particular supplier. The stuff used on the Kia is probably from China. I doubt it is from one of the French or Italian houses for this price. (For example, the Nappa leather used on a Rolls Royce is the same cost as this Kia).
carlos oliveira about What? Kia leather may as well be something you use for cheap flooring, it is that bad quality. For example, mu MB tex in my car feels like much better quality leather than anything I have touched in a Kia or Hyundai.
+Martin Jones About what? You complain about everything even remotely Kia but $70000 for a leather interior of a Rolls is justified. Typical of the class of Kia haters here. Drive this car with the VIP package and if you don't see that the leather and suede in the interior is as good as anything in it's class, well then there is nothing more I can say about it. You're not even speaking about this car. You sit in a Forte or equivalent and then speak with some sort of expertise on the leather of this car. I have driven the VIP equipped K900. You, I'll bet the farm not. Like I said typical of the haters here
carlos oliveira No, you completely miss my point. I was saying that the quality of leather cannot be very good in a Kia if you get a whole car with all of its gadgets for $70,000. Also, the RR leather interior by Conolly is probably the finest leather interior of any car produced, and perfectly justified on a $400,000 vehicle. Mercedes charge nearly £4,000 for Nappa leather which comes from Conolly, the finest leather producers in the world. Below that, it comes from Polltrona Frau.It is like you can buy leather shoes from Zara, and no matter how specced up they will never be LV or Louboutin. I have to say every brand has a price limit. Audi has a limit of around £50/60,000. Above that, you may as well buy something else as you are heading into the realms of exclusivity. Every brand has a limit. £125,000 for a Mercedes for example (unless it is Gelanderwagen). The Forte is the most expensive Kia sold in Europe, so that is all I can base it on. Even Kia Europe know they will not sell anything above this. I am sure that the maxxed out K900 is probably very nice. But nice is not what you want at £56/60,000. You want heritage, quality and the most amazing ride and/or handling. Based on the Kias I have been in and driven, they are still quite far off from their current class benchmarks, so it does not bode well for the K900. Also, what would you say are the K900's competitors (Bare in mind we don't get big Toyotas, Hondas, Nissans, Fords or GM products over here). Is a K90 as good as an E Klasse?
I almost thought "oh they're going for an Acura Legend of '10s kind of thing" but then remember Honda won race after race at the time- which is crucial to getting upmarket cred- and built a proper BMW/Benz rival weighing ~3500 lbs. This Kia is 4624 lb and has none of the breeding. Good luck, Kia.
As a businessman, I would steer clear dealing with anyone that drives a K900! Dodgy characters drive dodgy cars! K900 is a frankenstein - Jag grills, Panamera headlights, Maserati side vents, BMW rear lights, BMW i-drive, Lexus centre clock, Lexus speedo dashboard, Mercedes seat adjusters.
The only thing left to do is offer it with a smooth turbo diesel, and a V6 hybrid. Then you can have your luxury car cake, and eat it too. AWD would be a nice option, also.
KIA K900 i awesome car .. and i agree with all the negative sides is been mentioned by the viewer in the end i would buy one and get rid of the fake side vents they were necessary at all !!
the reason this kia has such a huge different price range to the "german" competitors? because it doesnt shout "i am the man" (i know its now the TRUE reason but eh)
I had to subscribe to your page Miles. You are funny, smart, speak well, tall, and really realy really good-looking! In the words of KC and Sunshine band, keep it comin love!!
I haven't been tempted into a Kia yet and I don't think this would change things particularly now when in our market I could buy a VW Golf for the same money or less than the equivalent Kia, no longer value for money they used to be.
Why would you buy this over a mercedes? Why?! I'll tell you why. Your check engine in your 3 year old S Class. As many car owners would, you take it to mercedes. They come out and tell you that your fuel pump is not working as it should and needs to be replaced. Next thing you know a bill comes in the mail for Atleast 2000$. Now, a Kia K900 owner has had their car for 3 years too. They're fuel pump starts getting a couple problems to. They take there k900 to a kia dealer. THe dealer says that it will cost 900$ after everything to have it fixed. Bottom line, Mercedes charges too much for everything
If I am not wrong, the chief designer or Kia is a former chief designer os some lead designer at Audi I think, so that's why many things look like copies...
Do you know what's the difference between this an a German car ? Quality bruh it's quality . I bet this car can't age more than 10 years unlike any German car which can age more than I can imagine .
Trust me, I love German cars, and my father owns a few himself, but they're not necessarily the best when it comes to reliability. Korean and Japanese cars are the most reliable on the market, German and Italian cars closely behind.
i like the face of this car, very bold the way a luxury car should. A little too much chrome for my taste but overall great interior and exterior design. The interior reminds me a little bit of the 08 acura TL type s ,minus the carbon fiber, expecially with the name badge being on the door sill. Im a fan of this design, more so than the toyota avolon which is about the same kind of car and im a huge toyota fan. I personally wouldnt be embarrassed of a kia badged car but if they could put the new version of it on the k900 it would look way cooler, i love the new badges. Kias been doing great things in these recent years hope they keep going this way.
dear auto manufacturers, either make exterior vents functional, or leave them off the car. i dont feel like paying for something that does nothing. although this car is nice, if i have 60K to drop, im buying a chevy SS, and keeping the change
Lucas Burk LED headlights that are light years ahead of this cars price bracket. I'd prefer to have headlights that work well than ones that look pretty.
Kia and Hyundai must do the one smart thing Toyota did 25 years ago to get into the luxury car business, come up with a brand name like Lexus and also pretty much like what GM and Ford has done with the Cadillac and Lincoln brands
Shelby Rodriguez They were called Hyundai Genesis, i do know my homework, starting 2017 the Genesis brand will be separated from Hyundai, they will start introducing a new line of models starting with the Genesis G90, which is the size of an S-Class MB or a BMW 7 series, look it up.
Somehow, I think people in the general public consider Hyundai in higher esteem than kia, not sure why, could be wrong here... I'd take the Equus over this...actually that new genesis looks awesome
I don't know why, but whenever I see the KIA badge it reminds me of some cheap yogurt brands...not a car brand with a rewarding prestige feel. Maybe it's the colour combination, the oval shape and the unrefined font. Anyway all scream cheapness, which singlehandedly ruins this top-range saloon for the Korean auto manufacturer. And also you need to remember $65k is already a huge chunk of money no matter how you call it a bargain. Spend it on a KIA? Really? Do you really believe $65k for a KIA is a rational and smart choice? You'd better buy a lower grade (smaller sized) German/Japanese luxury car with the 65k budget instead. You get the best quality everything, I mean, from the leather to the steel to the advanced construction method in these true premium brands, which Kia and Hyundai clearly aren't.
Best quality everything, ha. For the germans that peaked in about 1995 buddy, and the japanese cars that compete with this aren't exactly heavy hitters either. Cheap doesn't mean bad, cheap means cheap. Please show me one example of a car that competes with this one that doesn't have stamped lower control arms.
***** That's a different kind of car. That's a sport sedan, this is a luxury sedan. The Cadillac head unit (radio) is worse than aids and never works, if i wanted a fast 4 door i'd pick the V, but the K900 crushes it in ever other field.
Skylar Garrett a 65k car from germany? Get a used s 63 amg for that price. Or a new e class with leading class technologies. For 65k, you will be the one driving it and in that regard, the mercedes will outperform the kia. The car is cheap, the door handle still have a button to lock the door. My dad 2010 a8 had that and his 2014 mercedes ml is touch. The kia doesn't have adaptive suspension. His older a8 had it. The amount of plastic chrome is just too much. The back and front camera don't even have guide lines to help you parck and the 360 camera has black lines in the corners. My dads 2014 ml has a perfect 360 camera and the a8 had guide lines. The screen quality is awful compared to what german cars offer today. A cla has better resolution that this. Do you need more to understand that there is a reason why people prefer german cars: germans innovate, Korean copy.
How refreshing. Someone else who's not an automotive brand snob. I seriously appreciate that. An excellent review of a superb car. Many thanks.
It's easy not to be a brand snob when you are from a country with no heritage.
Martin Jones fuck off you korean hater!!

Great review style. Subscribed. I am def going to look into this Kia now.
Surprisingly good review. I enjoyed it. Good job
What year did they get rid of the PANORAMIC sunroof???? Great review my man....
If KIA changed their badge
I think they would sky rock in terms of sales
GO KIA!
100% agree.
In terms of cheaper luxury, excluding the Germans, Lincolns and Cadillacs dominated before the 90s. In the 90s and 00s, it was Lexus, Infinity, and Acura. Now, because of the recession, it might be Kia's and Hyundai's turn.
I really like this car. Good review man!😄👍
Great, honest review. Well done...
what honest? he always try to negate all the downsides of this car to the point that I suspect he's one of kia salesmen!
Great Review! straight to the point!
Exactly what IS Nappa Leather? What makes it different from regular leather?
Nappa just means smooth grained. It does not denote a distinct quality of hide or particular supplier. The stuff used on the Kia is probably from China. I doubt it is from one of the French or Italian houses for this price. (For example, the Nappa leather used on a Rolls Royce is the same cost as this Kia).
+Martin Jones And that you don't complain about ?
carlos oliveira about What?
I have it and i love it a lot ...
I like this guys reviews!
Man, that is a gorgeous car.
I love your reviews!
Miles. Why would I tune out? I love Kia.
I would buy!
Should I get this Kia K900 or Hyundai Genesis
This car has better materials and is similar to the Hyundai Equus/G90.
Hahaha the, "got that, got it, mhhmm, yup" shit got me..
t'was a looong list. Thanks for watching!
I like it! Definitely a good buy!
The only thing left to do is offer it with a smooth turbo diesel, and a V6 hybrid. Then you can have your luxury car cake, and eat it too. AWD would be a nice option, also.
This guys pretty awesome. Love the review. Nice looking car.
2:02 I’m sure Mercedes uses this feature, but I first saw that in a 98 crown Vic…
KIA K900 i awesome car .. and i agree with all the negative sides is been mentioned by the viewer in the end i would buy one and get rid of the fake side vents they were necessary at all !!
v8 and 150 mph? how heavy is that thing?? But its really good generally (not economically)
the reason this kia has such a huge different price range to the "german" competitors? because it doesnt shout "i am the man" (i know its now the TRUE reason but eh)
totally agree with you, please remove the side-vents
Nice review
i like ur review bro keep going
Is this show coming back?
Excellent review but I'll admit I'm a snob. However I DO NOT down play the competition. KIA is an awesome car and I recommend it.... for you 😉
thanks , Best review
I had to subscribe to your page Miles. You are funny, smart, speak well, tall, and really realy really good-looking! In the words of KC and Sunshine band, keep it comin love!!
I would'n mind seeing more reviews from him, like these more than that of S.S..
Why is Miles the best car reviewer of the hole FLD team, YET see's the least camera time
As an European i am glad that this Kia is not been sold in Europe it is awefull
This car is beautiful
wow $60k for a Kia? that's gonna be a hard sell
If I am not wrong, the chief designer or Kia is a former chief designer os some lead designer at Audi I think, so that's why many things look like copies...
Send this guy to Europe to replace FLD's current European car reviewer, he's great.
Do you know what's the difference between this an a German car ? Quality bruh it's quality . I bet this car can't age more than 10 years unlike any German car which can age more than I can imagine .
Korean cars are reliable. German cars don't last too long before they start having problems.
***** well , as I experienced you're wrong my friend . And for the record these KIA's start having problems approximately after 5 years .
***** why do people keep saying that, that was the German cars from 2008 and down, they don't do that anymore so shut the fuck up
Trust me, I love German cars, and my father owns a few himself, but they're not necessarily the best when it comes to reliability. Korean and Japanese cars are the most reliable on the market, German and Italian cars closely behind.
AudiDriven13 It still happens, even with new models. They don't get recalls for days like american cars, but do do have issues from time to time.
valla carrazo guapo y potente
Any day a better choice than a fully optioned E class or 5 series or an A6, I would slot this car between E & S class for E class money
Ehhhhh I wouldn't say fully optioned German midsize definitely base model though
i like the face of this car, very bold the way a luxury car should.
Good car! I think thath it is the same as the hyundai eqqus. I will probably go for the eqqus
Equus looks a bit outdated now though, especially when it's sitting next to the new Genesis in the showroom at the dealer I work at.
Grill looks horrible actually..
And the headlights! Don't forget the headlights!
agreed
Lucas Burk LED headlights that are light years ahead of this cars price bracket. I'd prefer to have headlights that work well than ones that look pretty.
Grill looks great, actually.
Kia and Hyundai must do the one smart thing Toyota did 25 years ago to get into the luxury car business, come up with a brand name like Lexus and also pretty much like what GM and Ford has done with the Cadillac and Lincoln brands
+Baha T They are. It's called Genesis.
Baha T really didn't do his research lol
Shelby Rodriguez They were called Hyundai Genesis, i do know my homework, starting 2017 the Genesis brand will be separated from Hyundai, they will start introducing a new line of models starting with the Genesis G90, which is the size of an S-Class MB or a BMW 7 series, look it up.
Bloopers great touch 👍
Somehow, I think people in the general public consider Hyundai in higher esteem than kia, not sure why, could be wrong here... I'd take the Equus over this...actually that new genesis looks awesome
I might buy this as a daily driver Mon-Thurs and use the Audi, Fri-Sun.
beautiful car
No rear seats review??
Charles-David Bérubé Koreans created Samsung and LG, they don't copy shit from Germany
