    Its standard V8 power, plush ride, and luxurious cabin allows the 2014 Hyundai Equus to feel like a true flagship luxury sedan in several areas including technology, refinement, and interior space. Only drivers in search of sportier driving dynamics, more powertrain options, and a prestigious badge will find more appealing vehicles elsewhere.

    Just picked up a 2014 Equus Ultimate from an older couple. Car has 108k miles, but you would never know it since it’s mostly highway! Drives like a beauty, was only serviced at the dealer since it’s brand new, & only paid 12k for it! All I can say is, STEAL STEAL STEAL!!! Absolutely love it!!!

    I just bought a 2016 Equus ULTIMATE with 50,000 miles for $27,000. (The previous owner traveled I-75, I-4 and I-95 between Ft. Myers and Jacksonville a zillion times in 2 years. I know because the GPS history shows it!) The car is near perfect, has all the toys and I still have a bumper to bumper warranty for another 10,000 miles. It's a real "Plain Jane" silver with a black interior but its one fantastic car!

    I'd pay that much. Anyone who says "who'd pay 70k for a Hyundai?" is stupid. It's got high end features so I think it's stupid to spend 30-40k for a 3 series or C class cuz they come with nothing special expect the badge

      I test drove a 2014 Equus yesterday. I've owned an Audi A8, Mercedes S-Class, and 3 7 Series BMWs. I can honestly say that if I was put into an Equus blindfolded and removed the blindfold while inside the car, I would have a difficult time knowing what kind of car it was. It's that nice and luxurious. It has everything in it that any of my previous "name brand" cars has. I'm shopping for one as I type this.

    Last I checked a well equipped Acura RLX is almost 61,000 dollars so for me this car is well priced. Also, I've been in both the Equus and LS460 and the Equus felt just as much, if not better built than the Lexus. Give them time, Hyundai is already gaining quite a reputation here in Canada.

    • @Gwynne66
      @Gwynne66 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The main problem with the RLX is that it is a front-wheel drive car. Some people prefer that, I know but if FWD is what you want, you can spend a lot less on a nice car.
      For that reason alone, it can't compete with the Equus.

      ***** its all hype. No way Hyundai has the resale value of a LEXUS. BMW. Or MERCEDES. It has to bee earned. Anyone that spends 60,000 on Hyundai just flushed it down the toilet. My wife has worked in car insurance for over 30 years and will contest. Hyundai dose not have that value. If a BMW gets hit. They can get full price for a new car because any damage can destroy its value Hyundai cant get that. I have over 16 years in the Automotive business. I have worked on LEXUS. BMW MERCEDES. I have worked on and driven Race cars. A DeLorean. An Excalibur. ECT. I DONT MAKE THINGS UP. ALSI READ REAL CUSTOMERS REVIEWS. ON YOU TUBE. CAR AND DRIVER. KBB. ALL THE COMPLAINTS ARE ALL THE SAME. ITS NOT WORTH THE RISK. WHY TAKE A CHANCE ON HYPE. WHY NOT BUY A CAR YOU CAN TRUST.ITS SIMPLE. why TAKE A CHANCE. Hyundai lied and screwed thousands. Hyundai. com. Hyundai needs to grow a pair and TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THERE ACTIONS. HAVE A GREAT DAY

      As a percentage of the original MSRP, the Equus' resale value is on par (even a little higher) than the Lexus LS because of the relative rarity of the Equus. Ironically, the Hyundai is a more exclusive vehicle.

      Not probably. It actually is much more reliable. And it’s got a better warranty than my mb and bmws. This is coming from a longtime mb/bmw owner who remembers when mb USED to offer free maintenance for 4 yrs. I had bmws when they used to offer free brake rotors and pads for 4 yrs. but my mb/bmws were never reliable and crazy expensive to repair/maintain. It’s great for badge whores, not great for people who value quality over snobbery. Check the used car lots and you will find tons of mb/bmw s class, e class,7 series, and 5 series for crazy cheap prices. Take it from someone who has owned them for over 20 yrs. there’s a reason 3-5 yr mb/bmws are dirt cheap. Don’t believe me? In my immediate household, we’ve owned nearly a dozen of them. From z3s to 3 e classes. Go get you some and enjoy/despair. Just make sure you get you an extended warranty, like the ones carmax offers. But extended warranty on mb/bmws can get pricey, for obvious reasons. But not as bad as in english cars like jaguar and land rover. But, you’d have to be certifiably crazy and/or adventurous to buy a used english car if you’re somewhat knowledgeable about cars/electronics. Just think lucas. 🤮

      Lukas Yes, Lexus LS are nice. Super plain, boring, no personality, but reliable. Too bad they cost $100,000 now with a v6 and not $35,000 with a v8 like back in the 90s. Even toyota admits their cars need more personality and character and they’re working to achieve that now.

      True story here. This month - January 2019 - my brother and I both bought cars. He bought a used Equus with over 100,000 miles on it. It's in perfect condition. I bought a used BMW 750Li with 86,000 on it. I've had my 750 for a week and it's already at the dealership with a failed fuel pump and fuel pressure regulator ($1500).
      I had a chance to buy an Equus, now I'm kicking myself for not doing it. I'm going get rid of my 7 Series as soon as I can and I'm getting an Equus.

Genesis definitely has a repeat customer coming for the g90. The Hyundai Equus is quite a nice vehicle, it definitely provides alot on the plate for a reasonable cost. Although, having driven and worked on these cars, I would consider them to be extremely dangerous on a low battery. The batteries do not last long at all and when they die, jumpstarting it is useless and doing so can fry the circuits easily. Hyundai really needs to fix this problem as it is a problem in most of their lineup.

    • @ravipeiris4388

      The battery I ended up replacing was going on 4 years. There is a easily accessible compartment on the passenger side inside the engine bay which houses the positive and negative terminals to easily do a jumpstart. I've done two jumpstarts in the past with no issues.

    The Equus is a lot of car for the money. In Korea the Equus comes in four or five versions and for the two types sold in the US are worth $100,000.00+ in Korea. That is why Korean nationals are not allowed to purchase the Equus in the US and then ship it to Korea. The Equus and Genesis sold in Korea do not have Hyundai badges present but that is not the case here in the US. For close to twenty years my Dad has owned a Benz or BMW. When I lived in Korea I sent him a brochure and other information for the Equus and he instantly liked what he saw. Since returning to the US I have met Equus owners that had a high-end european car for many years prior to purchasing the Equus. They made the change because the Equus gave them so much car for the money and you do not see many on the road.

    Man, Hyundai was doin all this back in 2014. I still can't understand why so many people think they're pieces of shit still. I've owned 4 Hyundai & Kias, and besides my 05 Optima, they were all super competitive for the class, had great features and performance, and cost next to nothing to maintain. Albeit, every one I've owned were fully loaded with the performance engine, but even at base they still offer so much for the money. My current car is an Elantra GT Sport (i30 Sport / N- Line) and it has pretty much every feature this has, just more refined and updated, amazing performance, and handles great. Also has more interior and hatch space than any CUV on the market. You wouldn't believe it's a $30K car, the quality and features are on $45K+ German car level. It's just amazing what they do.

    I just watched Doug DeMuro’s review of the Equus Ultimate now this because I’ve never thought I’ve buying one let alone have I seen too many on the road until recently where I saw and definitely heard that 5.0 V8 that had definitely had some exhaust work done and some 20 inch rims but was not overdone. It actually looked classy and had an extremely low grunt off the line.
    I checked what the bargain I heard it was mostly when it was under that 10 year incredible warranty.
    The one that’s for sale near me is a pearl white 2014 Ultimate , mint condition inside & out , Chrome rims and with under 100k for a bargain. The car looks absolutely beautiful and you can tell thing was treated like the luxury car it is.
    It’s 2024 and this beautiful beast is a bargain considering what you’re getting. Perfect if you drive on a nice long highway to work everyday morning.
    Looking forward to doing a little more investigating and possibly grabbing as my highway cruiser. I mean I paid twice as much for 2016 Accord 6-6 Coupe with similar mileage. Obviously Accord Coupes are rare , reliable especially fun with a 6 speed manual but this would be an extremely luxurious cruiser with incredible road presence.
    Now I’ll get back to finishing the video. I can’t believe this is 10 yrs old!

I am a race driving instructor with my own track day driving school and I stumbled on your review between Chris Harris reviews. :-) Dad has a 2014 Equus Ultimate. I'm looking for a family sedan at used prices when I saw your review. Used Equus, Audi A6, 300 SRT8, CTS-V wagon, etc... Thanks so much. When you're in Oklahoma or Texas and need a track for your next test...look me up! Andy

    One thing that would definitely help sell this car more is AWD. I see alot more of the new Genesis sedan here in NY than the older one. I think partly because of that AWD option.

    hyundau/kia is in a transistional period. hyundai in the 90's was like toyota back in the 60's 70's, who then came good. expect hyundai/kia to be the new toyota for the 2020's.

      Hyundai in the 80's and 90s. Was nothing like Toyota. They were considered disposable cars. And Hyundai had there tail tucked between their legs. They go into so much trouble. People were stuck with cars that were not worth fixing. A lit of them got scrapped and people had to pay off the loan to go buy another car

    This goes to all Hyundai Equus haters out there. The only executives or CEOs ride this type of nice car in S.Korea although they could even afford to have Mercedes and BMWs in their country. In fact, you guys need to realize that Equus costs anywhere from $70k to $110k in Korea. You guys do not want to look down on this luxurious vehicle just because they are not German or Japanese engineered or being sold at lower prices in the US.

    • @mrburgermaster

    • @tuolumne9
      @tuolumne9 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      They're not "smarter", they drive these cars because 1) South Korea is highly insular and nationalistic 2) years government actively supports policies which promote point (1).
      In Japan, while still nationalistic, German cars rule the domestic luxury market. Are Japanese by definition then less smart than S. Koreans? Think

    why the hell did they take out the massaging seats thats what made the $60k car!

  • @iSOBigD
    @iSOBigD 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    An S8 starts at $132k before any features lol. This is not meant to be a race car. The slowest base model A8 is $85k in Canada, that's $10-20k more than a fully equipped Equus. If you want electric seats with lumbar and cooling on the A8 you need to add 2 packages. Adaptive cruise control? Another $3900. Rear display? $3300. 19 speaker sound system? $7000. So a comparable A6 with a 333hp engine (similar to the V6 used in the base Genesis) starts at over $100k. I don't see why anyone would compare the two when this costs as much as the 250hp A6 ($63k with 0 options, $88k with 450hp and 0 options).

    It is about building brand awareness. $60K starting price is more like a dumping to get market penetration. Like people below said, Hyundai was not really reliable not so long ago, of course they will get better. BMW and MB both are being viewed as luxury and successful for a very long time, Equus's main target is people who can't really afford and take care a s-class or 7 series but really want to enjoy the similar luxury feel at a extremely lower price.

    Hmm Hyundai original forecast for the equus was 2000 for the life time... now near 12.000 equus have been sold in the us(non fleet sales). In 2010, Hyundai moved only 196 models, (extremely poor) 2011...that number exploded to 3193, infact so far in 2014 587 have already been sold. this car is finding a stride... judging by people on youtube, you would think it's not selling at all.. when infact the 70K hyundai is selling and selling well..
