    My co-parent and I let our child quit school 6 months ago and listening to you I just realised what a process of life change I have had! I have given up working on days I have him and am just living my bliss on these days rather than just weekends. I'm deschooling! That idea that my endeavours must create a billable hour or saleable product. Just being! Thanks for highlighting this and sharing the joy you have gotten from embracing the process of unschooling!

    Love the art at the end! Since becoming a Mom (7) years ago. I am just now getting back to finding myself again. I agree that when you just focus on everyone else, you loose you. Thank you for your insight and wisdom.

    "Even if you can't draw a sausage!" 😂 But so true! I'm a "professional" singer and after 10 years of study and 2 master degrees in music the only thing I try to teach students is honest expression, just being a witnessing presence to whatever needs to be expressed/is alive in you. Artistic expression is so much deeper than any mental filter we can put over any result. We just need to be there, be present with all the feelings and self-judgements that come along with it and after giving yourself buckets of empathy going into a space where mental noise hopefully subsides and get into that flow of being alive and human. Thanks for the reminder Lucy, I'll be joining DISCOOOOOO, looking forward soooo much. ps. 'The power of now' (Tolle) and 'Non violent communication' (Rosenberg) have helped me a great deal with deschooling myself. For people interested in Music; I love the book Effortless Mastery by Kenny Werner for detaching from conditioning, expectations, judgements, labels, thoughts etc etc etc etc...

    I didn’t know I needed to deschool until this very video. I’ve been on the unschooling journey for some time but deschooling wasn’t something I thought I needed as I was home educated/left to my own devices. But hearing you say the process of creating art- being frustrated, really struck a chord for me. Too much to get into for a TH-cam comment but I am going to allow myself a new range of motions- including frustration. Lovely video as always. 💕

    This video had particular resonance with how I feel. Firstly as I chose art as a gcse subject, tried my absolute best, and was never given my credit for endlessly trying to improve. Graded a D for what I thought was a beautiful model of Mount Fiji, I was so embarrassed and ashamed. I then have the added shyness as my partner is an incredible artist, who's great uncle was a famous artist. I've been told many times my 9 year old is a gifted artist too (I agree) which makes me step back and say "its their thing" not mine. When I secretly would love to create something myself. So I'm on it, I have something in mind, painting flora. I adore gardening and would love to paint beautiful flowers... the journey begins. Gratitude to you and thanks for sharing your thoughts and thought provoking art. 💗

    Oh! I've been wanting to play on my kids' ukulele and learn some songs, but I thought (schoolishly) to myself: "That won't lead anywhere. I'm not going to record an album. So what purpose does it serve? It'd be a waste of my time!"
    LOL. GET OUT OF MY HEAD, SCHOOL!
    Thank you for your brilliant and compassionate work

    I absolutely ADORE mixed media collage and junk art - and have oodles and oodles of “art supplies” at the ready at all times. 😆🙃
    Your painted works are delightfully unconventional - as are you, my dear!

    Gorgeous paintings! Those colours are popping and really love the layers and textures. The vibrant energy reminds me of the city that I love that is London.

    I can strongly recall the source of my creativity wound. Have worked hard to play and actively heal that wound and recognise my creative spirit shows up in my places :)

    Thank you! for sharing and caring! I'd gotten a bit burnt out market gardening/farming, not having time or energy to paint, do crafts, play music or write poems. So I made this huge garden space in the shape of a vagina, we call it "the creative space" 😅 It's like painting in the garden with God...Totally worked, (de-agriculture-schooled myself) - these days back to creating art again in all kinds of forms, alongside farming and selling edible flowers for the village bakery, to create lovely cakes. Love it, love you, love all!

    Very interesting Lucy. Do you think living the farm/yurt life has impacted your creativity and has leaving it had a different affect?

    • @LucyatLifeWithoutSchool
      @LucyatLifeWithoutSchool  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      yes actually, I have a much greater capacity here! I have so much more energy now that we aren't spending so much of it surviving!

    I feel that mainstream school, as a reflection of wider society, doesn't value huffle puff personality types, ie caring and creative, not to mention neuro diverse
