This was SUCH an awesomely rich conversation thank you all so much 🙏🏼 I went to a Steiner school from age 3 to age 17 and my mum was a kindergarten teacher for over 25 years so I’ve been feeling like my deschooling journey was looking a little bit different to those who’ve been through more traditional school systems.. This has given me so much food for thought 💭 and to meditate on 🧘♀️
Just come across your page! Loving feeling surrounded by like-minded people. We've been unschooling since the very beginning, never been to school and we just love our freedom to travel! It always amazes me how many teachers/ ex teachers actually home educate/unschool
Wow … that lifted my heart! Still trying to find my tribe… de registered my children frim mainstream school 11 months ago and we are all still deschooling x love from uk x
Hi, I would love to connect with like minded people. I’m also from the U.K. and I have been homeschooling for 1.5 years. I have recently heard about the unschooling approach and I have started trying it out. So far it really works.
this was so helpful! I thought about waldorf, but started reading into it. I think I'm going to do little elements if my son enjoys it while he is still little, but not go all in
I really enjoyed listening to this korero while i drew with my daughters stockmar crayons! I remember the first moment i had to take a step back from waldorf was when i was purchasing these crayons from the store associated with our local waldorf school. the lady running the store told me that i couldnt introduce all the colours to my daughter at once because it overwhelms children! lol! take everything with a grain of salt huh. I'll stick with the crayons (all the colours, thank you) but not so much the philosophy.
and also thank you Lucy for acknowledging your skill in keeping a neutral expression while listening to some of these yarns! I did not manage that haha
Love hearing from others! Hey Lucy, could you please share with the people some things that you are doing for self-care now that you've got older children. I understand they are not adults yet but they're not babies anymore. And I am finding myself having a really hard time taking any action in self-care, which causes a person to turn off or get burned out to the point of snapping at people instead of speaking with love and kindness and patience and understanding.
yes you are right to identify that self care is *essential* for avoiding burn out! I am a master of self care :P For me it takes the form of cultivating lots of passion projects - dancing, making art, having fun whenever possible!

Maybe I need to learn to sit in the stuff until its solvable . ??
I just stumbled on this. Love it! Im old now but We started unschooling in 1982 in Newburyport, Mass. I loved this, feeling inspired by the shifts you made in your communities to have them better suit your needs
