"Hold Your Placer" is a much better name than "Bookmark" anyway. I mean, it literally HOLDS YOUR PLACE. Does a bookmark actually MARK the BOOK in any way? Nope! 10/10 - would hold my place again.
I have some really pretty quilted maple. I cut a block to size, planed it smooth, then took a thin slice from each side on the bandsaw. rinse and repeat. No double side tape, so I tried various things to smooth the cut side. Clamping a card scraper in the vice was spectacularly unsuccessful. I ended up sanding them. Mine are about 1/16" thick, pretty nice looking, and not worth the effort for more than the 2 I completed. Fun!
The other method is to put some blue tape on the wood and on the bench then put super glue down on one of the two pieces of tape and lay the other one down on top of it. This way you can peel the tape off when it's done. I found it doesn't hold quite as well but if you're careful it does work.
Number one we were limited on time and had to get the shoot done in a couple hours. Regular PVA would not have set up that fast. But number two for thinner stock like this epoxy will hold better than PVA in the long run.
In terms of technical execution, masterful woodwork! In terms of me making a wooden bookmark; I’m going to take a page from Pask Makes and iron a nice plane shaving flat, ‘cause my skills are way to under developed to do what you just did! 😂
I prefer the "take a block of wood and make slices with a table saw until there are 15 nearly separate thin bookmarks instead of a block of wood" method. Though, I don't end up with different woods for a single bookmark.
Lovely hold-your-placers! If I might make a suggestion- perhaps trying out something other than the lapel mic? Or alternative placements? I am glad you are breathing (I would be very sad if you weren’t) but the lapel mic picks up a whole lot of of breathing sounds and distracts from the hand tool ASMR, haha

If you don't leave the finish to cure, then yes, it marks your book :D
Who are you kidding? You just like the wood curls...🤣😂
that's nice man
looks great
i like the 3 woods one
A longer piece of tape might help you lift the bookmark from the bench without the chisel?
Which is what you did on the next ones. lol
I ran into other problems with that. The dust attached to the tape and kept lifting the plane.
@@WoodByWright You have dust on your workbench? 😲 😜

won't the oil finish bleed into the book pages over time?
Once it cures it won't bleed into anything. And the BLO that I make is about 24 hours.
Nice work😊 why did you use epoxy glue instead of regular wood glue?

I could hear the fear/panic in your voice, great work

I LOVE these!
What did you use to seal the wood ?
Just BLO and Paste wax.
In order: the curly oak, the wenge & the neopolotan, but I like all 3
My favorite is the zebra wood.
What's the tape you're using?
Carpet tape. I talk about it more and lessons learned on the how to channel.
Lovely hold-your-placers!

Thanks for the feedback. That was something we had a problem on this one as the shotgun was not working.
Oh shoot! Good luck sorting that out. Though I’d still watch your videos even if they were shot on a flip phone
Is this a “woodmark”?
Is that for when you're part way through sawing a board, and need to remember where you left off?
Cool
Amazing, James! Beautiful work!!! 😃
This gave me ideas! But I need a pyrography machine!!!
Stay safe there with your family! 🖖😊
Everything is great! But it all fell apart with the last sentence 😅.
👍👍👍👍
Heat gun
That often just makes a sticky mess and then you have to get the residue off of the wood.
@@WoodByWright that’s true. I once had to remove stickers from 50 dowels.
