They say this bc they think christians are white supremacists, when the majority of christians are actually black (Africa is mostly christian). Which is also why actual white supremacists want to destroy christianity because they see it as a "black" religion (they don't understand the concept of a universal religion).

the more I read old books on Christian doctrine the more I realize that the idea of reason being opposed to religion is an utter lie. I grew up my whole life being told that Christians are thoughtless, fearful automatons who hate anyone who thinks freely and believes that reason is their enemy when that could not be further from the truth. I hope more people will some day sit down and read the works of Thomas Aquinas and St. Augustine among many others who crafted the doctrine that our societies are founded on to this day. 23:29 As someone who is really into archeology, I can confirm that Jericho is not a good objection to Joshua's account. The site was destroyed and rebuilt literally so many times that we cannot even say for sure which destruction belongs to which time. The particular destruction he talks about in the post occured about 1500 BC, which has nothing to do with Joshua's destruction which would have actually occured around 1200 BC. Additionally, while Jericho itself cannot be used to either fully disprove nor directly prove Joshua conquered it, there are other cities which Joshua conquered which have been excavated in recent years, which fit surpringly well with Joshua's account, namely Hazor... A city which Joshua conquered and burned down. What archeologists found there was remains of massive fire being set on the city around 1200 BC and all the pagan idols in the city being purposely dismembered and destroyed... Something no other ancient culture but Israel would have done.

"And we wonder why federal prisons are crammed with Christians"
      1. The anti-theist cannot rule out the possibility of conversion in those numbers (citation needed). Furthermore, there aren't really a lot of good numbers on the religiosity of inmates. Furthermore, some religious groups are over-represented according to their actual population in the US.
      2. One can apply the same logic to black people. "And we wonder why federal prisons are crammed with black people." Maybe an atheist would be logically consistent with that view and agree that black people are predisposed to crime. But I doubt the poster would.

      Hi there
I have a message especially for you.
I've heard many biographies of people who lived in the past who read the Bible and studied
the Bible with the aim of proving that Jesus wasn't God.
The more they read and the more they study the more they realised that Jesus was and still is God.
In other words, they became believers and by becoming believers they received the Holy Spirit, so they were saved.
      Saved from eternal punishment.
Punishment which all unbelievers are going to realise that they have received when they die.
This is why you need God.
God doesn't force anyone to obey him.
When you receive the Holy Spirit you actually desire to do what he wants you to do, as written in the Holy Bible.
      God is love.
      God loves you.
He wants you and all humanity, to be part of his family.
      Family?
"Our Father who art in heaven"
Please have a rethink about your future.
Today's headlines were prophesied more than 2,000 years ago.
      What that means is:
We're expecting Jesus to return very very soon.
      God says:
"I set before you life or death. Choose life."
Your next breath could be your last breath.
Please go your local Baptist church at 11:30 a.m. and tell them that you would like to be born again please.
      You've got 2 choices:
Choose to disbelieve continually and end up in the lake of fire? or
      Choose life?
      So what will it be!
Jesus stands knocking at your door.
      Will you let Him in?

The Bible is coherent throughout and has the most manuscripts of any ancient writing. It’s historically accurate and corroborated at times by other ancient civilizations. The facts are there, it’s just a matter of receiving them. Faith is not belief without evidence. It’s belief in something unseen moving forward based on evidence of what has been laid out before. It’s trusting that God is still Who He says He is.

I talked back and forth where we each had long comments and they made some comment that did not quite square with being an atheist with some sort of rational, empiricist view of the world. I took a look at their comment history and they were very deep into demonolatry, it was just very, very weird as I generally assume a specific type of hyper-materialist atheist when someone self claims atheism and critisizes the rationality of the Bible and this person was engaging in some very weird rituals and seemed to completely believe in the spiritual, just some super evil stuff.

You are in a state of rebellion, and devotion to your own ego and intellect, demanding things of God to satisfy your petty human desires. You (and every atheist in this state) have it backwards: you ought to be searching for how to serve God. All the questions you are asking have answers, you just don't bother to honestly seek them out. You want to use them as a dunk on me, as a gotchya to weaponize against other people of faith, instead of actually doing the work of studying the Bible and the many thousands of philosophers and theologians who have them.
As far as disasters and disease, who can understand the will of God? No one, really. We are not meant to be invulnerable or to live forever. This is again sort of a dishonest approach. Another way of asking thse same questions is "why does fire burn?" "Why can't we breathe water" or other axiomatically silly things. Butthe real problem is in how these are being asked. Not in good faith, searching for truth, but in a way to demand a satisfaction of your limited human intellect and when that standard can't be met, "welp! no God!" There would neverbe an answer good enough.
I can't give you thousands of years of theology and philosophy in a youtube comment. You have to do the work if you really want to know. The bible says to forbid marriage is demonic(1timothy 4), but the priests are banned from it.
The bible says that we should never make images of the lord(10 commandments), but you got crucifix's.
Pretty sure Jesus said something about not making up rules, can't remember where though, and Jesus said in Matthew 6:7 not to repeat/babble on when praying like pagans who think if they keep repeating the lord will hear you better. I think the rosary fits into both of those categories.

@timbonthuus1619 I'll explain the making of images. There are two different types of images made in the Bible. There is the graven image that God forbids and the non graven image. we remember the story of the golden calf. The israelites made a golden calf to make their god. God was angry, and he punished them for that. Do you also remember the story of the building of the ark of the covenant and Solomon's temple? God told them to make a statue of cherubs(angels), which should be directly against the ten commandments, right? Well, no. The golden calf was wrong because they made an idol. They created something to call god and bow down to and worship. The cherubs, on the other hand, were imagery. Not for the purpose of worship. Catholics fall into the latter category. We don't worship the statues and icons cause they can neither see nor hear us. They are imagery that we use.
Then for forbidding marriage. There actually was a group or groups of christian sects at the time that saw marriage and sex as immoral. The CC does not teach this. It encourages marriages. Marriage is even a sacrament, which means we believe that it gives grace. For priests; however, the life of a priest is not an easy one. When priests are not saying mass, they are praying(canonical hours) reading or visiting others. A priest's life is not stable. His bishop at any point in time can move him to a new parish or diocese. So what do you suppose his wife and kids do? Do they uproot their lives and move with him, or do they stay alone without him. I don't think it's fair to the wife or the kids. Even if they stay with him, with the busy life of a priest, he won't be able to give her the love and attention that is rightly hers. She might soon become an object of his pleasure. Only when he wants sex that he would make time, but other times he's too busy with his pastoral duties. Yes, it's not the same for everyone, and the Eastern Orthodox, Oriental Orthodox, and Eastern Catholics make it work, but what works for some would not always work for others.
The CC acknowledges that Peter was married. According to CC traditions, Peter was a widower. But let's imagine for a second he was not. So Peter just left her all alone to follow Jesus. With him gone, there would be a significant drop in income. Things would become harder for her. Not only that, but she would be lonely without her husband. she also won't be protected(the same way that some girls put men shoes outside their doors even if there is no man in the house to deter robbers and other criminals). It's just not fair to the wives of these clerics. Even Paul says that it is better to stay unmarried. If you love your wife(which you are commanded to), your pastoral duties would be affected. If you focus on your duties, you might mistreat the wife God gave you. You need to a balance which not everyone can find.

@@timbonthuus1619About point 2 as Christians we'll agree that the ultimate meaning of life is but to answer God's call. This could (as it is for most people) involve starting a family, and then so be it; but if following the Lord's will eventually leads to full-time serving his Church, then It becomes acceptable even not to get married. And this leads back to Jesus himself, whose whole Life was devoted to serving the Father alone. To sum up, the way of marriage is not the only way, for even marriage is not of our making but a gift of His grace.

I'm an atheist and my reasoning isn't really covered on the "atheist argument wheel", so I'll try to explain it here.
Obviously, I can't deny the existence of a God with absolute certainty. Nobody can. However, there is one thing that I can be fairly certain of - if there is a God, it doesn't really operate the way most religions claim it does. The Abrahamitic God in particular is distinctly human in character. Vengeance, mercy, the desire to be worshipped, these are all very clearly human traits. Think about it - why would a literal God, an omnipotent being with unimaginable power, need/want to be worshipped by beings like us, who would be to this God what bacteria are to us?
I really enjoy sci-fi, particularly if it involves aliens. The more alien and weird the better. However, it is very hard, if not impossible, to come up with truly *alien* aliens as a writer. More often than not, fictional aliens just end up being humans with tails and blue skin. The point is, humans already have trouble conceptualising something (in comparison to a God) trivial like another biological being that just happened to evolve under different circumstances. We could never even hope to accurately understand the motivations of a God, or Gods, if such beings existed. All the rules dictated by various religions, they are human rules clearly made by humans for humans. If there is a God, and if it does actually care what we do with our lives on an individual level (pretty big and, imo, unrealistic expectation, given there are not only billions of people but also billions of potentially inhabited planets across the universe) it clearly would be pointless for us to try and guess at its intentions or motives, much less try to live our lives according to what we THINK this being wants. There just is no point in it, other than as a fun exercise in creative fiction or philosophy.
Ironically the most reasonable depiction of God(s) in my opinion comes from the pagan/animist religions that our distant ancestors believed in, where the divine was conceptualised in the form of distinctly non-human nature spirits that just do their thing beyond anyone's comprehension.
TLDR If there is a God, or multiple ones, it ultimately doesn't matter what we believe (or don't believe) because this being would realistically be so utterly alien to us that we'd have no hope of ever even coming close to understanding its motivations or desires.

I will say this as a Christian. Your argument does make sense and I can see why you’d believe it because it is very compelling. But let me say this, it is better to believe than not to believe. Because if there is a God and if you don’t believe or live an honorable life, and said God requires that you do so, it would be a lot harder to get into an afterlife (or heaven) then if you did believe and live an honorable life.

The problem of evil still hasn't been debunked.

    • @junothepeasant
      @junothepeasant 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Your statement is true, but outside the context of if God wants human free will and autonomy.
God could probably stop all human evil and make it so that we could only do good. However, this would come at the cost of human free will, meaning that we would not be capable of committing evil, but at the same time, doing whatever is good (again, what is good is disagreed upon but we recognize there are some common ideas of kindness, love, generosity, justice, etc.)
If God creates humans to only be able to do one thing, that means he has created a set of puppets or playtoys. So either God must create beings with free will with the possibility of evil, or create no beings with free will. The latter would be a meaningless creation, and God would be creating, well, meaningless things. Even if humans without freewill did "good" things, it means nothing without freedom, as humans would not choose that, it would just be God doing it (sort of like how a person with toys inputs actions into their toys, and the toys do nothing).
Here is a Christian response to the problem of evil (from a website article, which I can share to you if you would like to see a way more detailed explanation than mines), as written by Epicurus, that is commonly brought up:
      [Begin quote]
"Is God willing to prevent evil, but unable to? Then he is not omnipotent." Answer: God is willing to limit evil and has acted to do just that. So, He is still omnipotent.
"Is he able, but not willing? Then he is malevolent." Answer: God is able, but not willing, to abolish our free will. So, He is still omnibenevolent.
"Is he both able and willing? Then whence cometh evil?" Answer: God has acted to defeat evil. Evil comes simply when we fall short of His will.
"Is he neither able nor willing? Then why call him God?" Answer: God is not willing to prevent our free will. (Our) disapproval does not make Him any less God.
      [End quote]
This of course does not mean much if there is no God or if there is no belief in God, as there is no God to criticize or not standard to criticize Him with. But it does refute the idea that there cannot be a God that can be both omnipotent, omnibelevolent, and allow evil at the same time. God can and does (according to the Christian texts) respond to human evil multiple times. So this refutes the idea that God is passive in response to evil. And it is noted that He has provided a solution for that evil (whether we trust in it or not, that does not matter). He does these things without infringing on the human free will. So I suppose other questions rise such as "does God do too much?" Or "does God not do too much?" Or "do I agree or like God's methods?" But these are ultimately us making judgements about God according to our own ideas of morality. These alone do not refute the possibility of God being omnipotent and omnibelevolent at the same time.
The answers to Epicurus's questions could be countered by saying that if God is omnipotent, then he should surely be able to make humans with free will that are only capable of good. But this is a contradiction, or a paradox. A paradox is not possible, whether we are an ant, or the highest divine being. A paradox is nothing, or impossible in all scenarios because it is illogical. Christians (and other religions maybe) say that "God can do all things." It must be emphasized that God can do "all possible things." What is logically impossible is, well, impossible.
Again, you can disagree with the existence of God or how God acts, but the main point is that regardless of that, an omnipotent, omnibenevolent God that allows evil can exist.

even if your experience matches every other school, that's still a massive issue, why are Christian schools so terrifying for nonbelievers?

It’s not a difficult concept to grasp. I resent Voldemort, but I don’t believe he exists. I would resent the idea of Voldemort a lot more if his character portrayal in a story had a large following of people that were trying to push the teaching of wizardry in public schools along side science, actively aiding in the spread of disease by preventing use of contraceptives or vaccines, and giving the silliest arguments for how Voldemort actually exists and he loves you, but do X to please Him or you’ll suffer forever in Azkaban.

I haven't met anyone who ever became a Christian without either being one from birth, or having a personal experience with God later on.
Very few people are going to be convinced solely through reading a Bible. Other religions have holy books with beautiful prose, after all. You have to consider it from the perspective of a non-believer. It's hard enough to open up to the possibility of a God, let alone to find your way to the one true God. It's natural that these people are going to be skeptical.
For my money the only real way is through the grace of the Holy Spirit. A personal, undeniable experience with God. While this may be unintelligible to other people, when touched by the Holy Spirit the non-believer has that evidence he's always been after. Everything falls into place from there.
I'm not sure I'd have it any other way. This was the way I found God. Does Christ really want His flock to believe "just because"? There is no substitute for grace.
As for what we can do to convince atheists: I think being preachy doesn't work. I never found it convincing when I didn't believe. They can smell the insecurity. You know what I did find convincing? What opened my mind to the possibility? Seeing the effect of grace on the converted. Seeing the difference it made in the ordinary lives of those Christians I knew. Grace is the only way, but grace necessarily creates good works. It's highly improbable you actually believe if you're not doing good works. Works may not be necessary for salvation, but they stand as testament to the grace you've experienced.
A lot of people seem to forget that Christ said to "Love one another, as I have loved you". He didn't just sit around quoting scripture and arguing with non-believers - He fed them, healed them, gave them wine and friendship, and ultimately gave His life for them. We should follow this example. Testify to our faith through works. Who knows, it may open up another to the grace of God. Dry theological arguments sure won't.

So, is it possible for a non-elect to get into Heaven? Like you said temporary faith exists apparently so wouldn’t that mean they could get into Heaven?
Also I heard you were talking about the Old Testament in a strange way in my opinion. What did you mean when you were saying that it should be taken as mostly stories and not a true history? I know there is poetry in the Bible and there is metaphors and that kind of thing but I still think that we should take it as complete truth. If we don’t take a single part of the Bible as true then we get to close to reversing what it means to either chose what we want it to mean or just chose to delete a part of the text as completely false.
Anyways I loved the video, can’t wait for more.

Great video once again! A small comment, coming from someone from a Lutheran background about your comment on Once Saved Always Saved:
One of the main arguments for traditional calvinist soteriology going around the interwebs is the argument that the Trinity must be undivided in its operation -I think you used it yourself in one of your videos-, e.g the Father elects unconditionally from eternity, the Son atones for the elect and the Holy Spirit regenerates the elect, and all such individuals will persevere until the end. My question is then, how is it possible for someone to have a "temporary faith" under such a system? Meaning, how can someone have saving faith apart from the Holy Spirit? Because if the Holy Spirit gives faith to the unelect and thereby unatoned for and therefore unregenerate? Wouldn't that contradict the argument from unity mentioned above, seeing as then it would seem that the Trinity doesn't operate as united as claimed? Again just curious what you would say. Not super informed on Presbyterian soterrology seeing as I come from a Lutheran background. Would be nice to hear so that I can understand your system better!
    God be with you all!❤

I went to catholic schools and as I’ve grown up and sort of lost faith, I’ve realised just how much they left out when teaching us religion.
There’s a massive chunk that the schools must have just decided was too mature for any age and never taught us.
I never learned anything about Hell, I never learned anything about the Angels, I never even learned that Jesus is supposed to come back one day.
Perhaps a lot of “Atheists” were just taught in a way that had the opposite effect in establishing belief.
