Great information...I’d add that since th cb750 has a manual choke you can use that to help reference where your at on your carb tuning.. choke serves to close off air to the carb so if your bike runs better on partial choke your still lean on your fuel to air mixture... thanks for posting.
Best explained video I’ve found.. but if you could tell me what you done with the vacuum lines I would appreciate it.. I’ve got a 80 cb750 custom, that I’ve got pod filters and open 4 into 1 exhaust.. but I’m stumped at the vacuum lines

I wish I lived by you cody so I could have you work on my Magna 700 87 Super, I'm too old for this work and what time I have left I need it to be riding not working on it.
Seemed like cody was talking about butteryfly carbs. And yours are CV carbs. I wonder if the by-pass circuit (A circuit that I believe leans out or enrichens, mixture when throttle is slammed closed to reduce backfire) has any effect on tuning?

Personally I’ve never had to change pilot jets when installing pod filters. The pod filters don’t let any more air in at idle than a stock airbox, and even if there is a slight need to bump up the pilot jet size, you can usually get away with giving the mixture screw 1/2 or 1 turn out
@@zorroblings6886 there’s a massive jump to be honest. It’s more the unbalanced air too but theK&n do let more air in. I’ve tried without rejetting but the results don’t work unfortunately
Cody seems like a very knowledgeable guy. Of course he doesn’t use a dyno jett kit with his knowledge but for someone one with limited carb skills they work fantastic and get you in the ball park with out much tweaking afterwards. Especially with cv carbs. Good job on video though.👍🏽

Hi great tips! Can you suggest where to buy pods and jets? Trying to rebuild 1985 cb450sc but i want to use pods instead the stock air box. Thanks! More power!
Been following your page for a while now but finally got my hands on a CB900 so I’m watching very in depth and Cody is from my hometown! Small world. Anyways I’ll probably be reaching out to ask where you sourced parts from. Thanks for the awesome channel!
Hello, what modifications must be made to the Honda Cb750f 1980 carburettors to use the pod filters and keep them working properly? greetings and thank you very much
Thanks for exposing us to a great new channel. I have a pair of VM34s on an XS650 giving me fits. Prejetted kit too. One question I can’t get the internet to resolve- these are 2stroke carbs so they are air screws instead of fuel screws. Does an adjustment on these air screws effect only the idle/pilot circuit, or does that impact the AF ratio throughout the throttle range? All advice is greatly appreciated.
is it the VM34SS you have, like on the GS? Or the smaller VM34 that you find on pit bikes? The SS has a fuel screw underneath then air screw at the side. To adjust open throttle you can lift your pin up as there are 5 notches, I lifted mine 2 (I think) on the GS
Hello i love your channel I have a quistion . I have a honda cbr1000f DUAL 1993 and want to put pods on it can you advice me witch pods to use and if i have to rejet the carbs and witch kit to use ? I also have a stubby exhaust .
I really wish I had gotten this video before I reordered my stock jet. I was told on a forum to not worry about performance parts, but to instead focus on getting the engine running right. Solid information for most, but I am getting rid of my stock air box and going with pod filters too. Now when Cody is talking about jumping 15 numbers on the jet size, ( I may have missed it), which jet is he talking about? One or both? Low and or high? I have a 1980 CX500, and have followed your build and it is amazing to see how your bike came together. I hope mine comes out half as cool.
I think it kinda all goes together. Some performance parts will make your life so much easier when getting your bike to run like electronic ignition points and filter pods. Without them you’re constantly chasing your tail. On an 80s CX500 I’m assuming you have CV carbs. On those you don’t change the slow jet like you would a slide carb. You have a primary and secondary main to change. Depending on sea level and exhaust mods those will be e.g. 15 each
Am I complete newb, but taking apart and cleaning my first carburetor (aww) on a 1981 Honda CB750K, is it not the main jet that is 68 stock and the secondary main jet 102? The answer is probably that they’re all different, but...
I’m using the Clymer manual for Honda CB750 DOHC fours 79-82, but it already has its carburetor diagram seemingly not match up with the instructions (primary nozzle labeled in diagram appears to be the pilot screw, and instructions seem to call the primary nozzle the needle jet. Of course, I can’t confirm that because the primary nozzles/needle jets (whatever is under the primary main jet) are all stripped. Shoot me).
Great info thanks for sharing.. I recently picked up a basket project.. 1984 Honda cb550 night hawk, for dirt cheap off of Craigslist list. I was surprised at how clean it is after putting it together. I have the bike running mint with its stock set up. Now that I have the bike in good running order, I’m going to do a Brat-Bob. I want to delete the stock air intake box and run quality air intake pods, as well as chop the stock exhaust which is 4 into 2 and leave each header as one with possible short extensions. Has anyone dialled in their carbs for pod intake filters for this bike, I’d like to eliminate as much trial and error as possible, everything and anything that I find on the internet seems to be rather contradicting!
Cody, Great video but I wanted to double check something. I have an 82 nighthawk 650sc. Clymer Manual says my stock main jet size is 118. Doesn't state what my idle/slow jet size is. Not sure where to find that if you can help. So i have all stock exhaust and k&n pods on the bike. By your suggestion, if i go up 15 and my stock main jet size is 118, are you saying you recommend i get a size 133?? Seems awfully big. I'm around 100-400ft above sea level (Baltimore, MD) and typically ride anywhere from 55-90 degrees. Keihin carbs VB 44C. Didn't know if you could point me in the right direction. Thanks for any help and keep putting out the awesome videos.
A million thanks for posting these videos! Invaluable since I'm doing an '81 750K rebuild at the moment. Do you recall what sizes you ended up with for the primary and secondary? Though I know every bike is a bit different, you and I are using the same exhaust and pods and I'm feeling a little gap between ½ and 3/4. I'm currently at 75/120. Thanks again, cheers!
I went with Cody’s suggestion of 80/120. A gap between those throttle positions would be the jet needle / needle jet. Try Cody’s suggestion of lifting the needle with a washer he explains in the video.
Complete newbie here..if I wanted to fit a pod filter to my 125cc cafe racer (more for look) would I need a jet kit & how easy is it to do? I imagine I can’t just fit the pod filter straight on without any adjustments to carb?
Man your channel really helped! For real! More power to you and cody! Subscribed to both of you! Loool. I do have a couple questions tho, did you have to adjust the float needle or did you just leave that be? What did you use to shim the jet needle(link?)? And where is the pilot jet on this specific carb? 😅 thank you so much
You can raise the needle if you want on these carbs with Cody’s washer trick. On other carbs you have grooves to lift and drop the needle for your mid ranges. We didn’t shim these needles. I’ve never found I have to with my bikes.
I seem to have the opposite problem on suzuki ts125. It runs great without a filter on (full throttle and idle) but dies with a pod filter on. Like its starved for air. Should i reduce the VM22 main jet size (getting too much fuel)? Or is the added air flow without the filter allowing more air rushing through creating the draw for more fuel?
Figured it out today…thought i would pass it along. Wrong fitting pod filter was blocking the holes along the lip of the inlet side! Put a straight through 45mm on and its running perfectly!!!
Hi folks, I watch video several time, but I didn't hear did Cody rise the needle or not after jetting. I have cb750f Bol d'or 1981 and I hope this is the same jetting as Cody bike. Am I right?
He talks about using a washer trick to raise it, these carbs don't have actual grooves to raise or lower. But most of the time there is no need to raise if you mid throttle is ok.
Hey man I have a 74 cb750 which I’m running pods. What size jet do you think I should use? All my plugs are black which obviously is running too rich. I sent my carbs off to get rebuilt and he told me he put one 10-40 in. Could you please help thanks!
Ha, it’s a valid question. Some filters like Ram do have them but if you’re going k&n which are made without best keeping without. Jet size, depending on your bike and elevation a good ref is 4 sizes up on the main and 1 on the slow is usually a start at sea level.
Hey man I have a 1991 Honda cbr250rr MC22 and it’ll idle but it won’t rev up? Any ideas on what to check? I’m going to check vacuum lines and fuel lines then after that probably plugs and carb clean Any other suggestions would be awesome :)
Cody would be your man, his inner circle has a load of tips. At my guess... have you changed the main jets? increased the fuel flow? lifted the needle?
If you’re using decent pods e.g k&n they will be specifically designed for those and not block them. Any pods you need to modify I would steer clear of.
@@forthebold Thanks to the reply - I modified the ones when rebuilding my wifes Carbs CB750 81 Custom, and for my 1979, I use a POD that does not block that area. The 81 has original pipes in excellent condition, and the 79 I use a Delkvic Header. Both Bokes have 102 jets as mains- both have good torque at 7000-9000 RPM in 5th. btw: be alert to the fake collars that connect the carbs to the intake ports. Only use the OEM ones -
Help please!, I'm having issues with starting my kz650, I put pods filters it has open exhausts too, still start harshly always need to choke one of the carbs to start, could be the i need to change the main jet?
Main jet is only for open throttle. Yes you need to change that also, but your main problem is not enough fuel, you need to go up on the slow (idle) jet ad open your fuel mix screw
Hey man this channel has me so inspired. I'm doing 12 14 hours a day on my 1982 cb750 dohc custom build. Just rebuilt the carb bank. My jets to start from facotry are 68/102 and I went to 80/120. What did you do? Did you mess with the idle speed jet? Thanks for all the info!! Love the builds
In my CB400N (carburetor model Keihin VB31B for the European market; in the US be the VB21B model) I change the secondary jet and main jet from the original 78/108 to the 90/125 and fitted some velocity stacks between the filter pods and the carburator (length about 6,5 cm) and works like a charm!!! Obviously the carburatore first need to be cleaned and synchronized!
That's it?! what about the lack of vacuum that the pods create and not lift the slide, explaining the whole reason the carbs don't work with pods? You can't just rejet these carbs and they work.
They sure do work. It’s a myth that cv carbs don’t work. Check out the riding video. As for the slides lifting they do. Otherwise you’re not going to be able to rev the bike. The throttle works by the slides lifting. If they didn’t you would be able to open it out. As for vacuum pods allow more air so more vacuum. Seems the information you’ve been given is wrong.
It’s just a test ride video for both the red CX509 and the orange tracker on this channel. Just shows that the carbs work perfectly with pods when tuned.
The engineering behind carburetors is incredible. Especially the ability to smoothly transition between different jets depending on throttle.
Absolutely. Brilliant engineering

@@forthebold ok. Ill check that out. Thanks!
Figured it out today…thought i would pass it along. Wrong fitting pod filter was blocking the holes along the lip of the inlet side! Put a straight through 45mm on and its running perfectly!!!
Well, now you got me thinking 🤔. I might have a winter project now.
Where did you get the jets from?
I get mine from a local dealer, but jetsrus.com in America I hear is the place to go.
Thank you Sir.
What's your experience with rejetting for higher elevations?
Not much if I'm honest as I'm sea level or only a few feet at best
Hi folks, I watch video several time, but I didn't hear did Cody rise the needle or not after jetting. I have cb750f Bol d'or 1981 and I hope this is the same jetting as Cody bike. Am I right?
He talks about using a washer trick to raise it, these carbs don't have actual grooves to raise or lower. But most of the time there is no need to raise if you mid throttle is ok.
@@forthebold great, tnx. Hope jetting is the same as his.
Hey man I have a 74 cb750 which I’m running pods. What size jet do you think I should use? All my plugs are black which obviously is running too rich. I sent my carbs off to get rebuilt and he told me he put one 10-40 in. Could you please help thanks!
I would go with what Cody recommended here in terms of going up on sizes.
Even with a sock on the filter? I want to put these pods on my bike. What jets would you recommend for a 93 nighthawk?
Definitely no socks on the filter, they belong on your feet 🤣
@forthebold I ment an air filter sock lol
@forthebold and what jets would be good for that kinda air filter?
Ha, it’s a valid question. Some filters like Ram do have them but if you’re going k&n which are made without best keeping without. Jet size, depending on your bike and elevation a good ref is 4 sizes up on the main and 1 on the slow is usually a start at sea level.
@forthebold bike is a cb750 and I'm out here in Florida
Hi I just brought a cheap foam filter with no steel mesh is that still ok or are they terrible as well as steel mesh pod filters
Anything cheap will guarantee to be bad and affect your engine.
Where are you in Norfolk?
Hey man I have a 1991 Honda cbr250rr MC22 and it’ll idle but it won’t rev up? Any ideas on what to check?
I’m going to check vacuum lines and fuel lines then after that probably plugs and carb clean
Any other suggestions would be awesome :)
Cody would be your man, his inner circle has a load of tips. At my guess... have you changed the main jets? increased the fuel flow? lifted the needle?
For The Bold - dreegez haven’t changed anything :) it’s just been sitting a lil while (2 months) so I’m going through options :)
You forgot to mention when using Pods not to block the Vacuum port and air duct on those CB750 Carbs !
Just the primary and secondary, and screwed out the fuel mix screw
Hey Anthony, what did you use to clean up the carbs? Thanks :)
Plenty of carb cleaner, soaked loads and compressed air. Then r placed all rubbers
Did you modify the slow jet at all?
Just the primary and secondary on these carbs.
do you know how hard it would be to put 2003 honda cbr 900rr carbs on a 1996 honda cbr 900rr thanks any help you could give me
I would guess pretty challenging at least.
@@forthebold i ment fuel injected carbs on 1996 honda 900rr
Any where I can find the PDFs of parts and details for the cb750?
Try any cb forum
So how many sizes bigger for the pilot jet ?
Only primary and secondary main swaps on these CV carbs.
i can do it (sync them) with stock exhaust?
Yeah
Can I also apply your tip to a Honda CB400 engine?
Every engine
In my CB400N (carburetor model Keihin VB31B for the European market; in the US be the VB21B model) I change the secondary jet and main jet from the original 78/108 to the 90/125 and fitted some velocity stacks between the filter pods and the carburator (length about 6,5 cm) and works like a charm!!! Obviously the carburatore first need to be cleaned and synchronized!
Where do I buy jets online?
Any motorcycle parts website will help even dime city cycles
Cody's expertise is/was invaluable. S l o w l y catching up on your videos. All have been enjoyable so far. TIA if you read this.

What do yo recommend for my 81' gs550, it has mikuni bs32ss carbs ?
It’s a lot of factors. What the stock is, what exhaust, whether you’re running pods, altitude, humidity.
Thanks for the motorcycle videos, keep up the good work. Please kill the music while someone is speaking, no use for it and it's distracting.
Thanks for watching, noted
Really enjoying your videos, but this background music was very distracting/annoying.
That's it?! what about the lack of vacuum that the pods create and not lift the slide, explaining the whole reason the carbs don't work with pods? You can't just rejet these carbs and they work.
They sure do work. It’s a myth that cv carbs don’t work. Check out the riding video. As for the slides lifting they do. Otherwise you’re not going to be able to rev the bike. The throttle works by the slides lifting. If they didn’t you would be able to open it out. As for vacuum pods allow more air so more vacuum. Seems the information you’ve been given is wrong.
Hey brother what riding video where you mentioning to check out the slides?
It’s just a test ride video for both the red CX509 and the orange tracker on this channel. Just shows that the carbs work perfectly with pods when tuned.
Hey thank you for the quick reply I'll definitely we watch that video as I'm sure I've seen it I watch all your stuff you and Cody.
