my forks are toast I think. The bottom one started binding up while turning that worm gear counterclockwise then it broke free about 5-6 turns in. Prior to that test I had no forward drive and no reverse.

have you tried to rebuild these forks yet? pull the bearings replace....With all the bearing pullers and race tools that sit on my shelf might be a good time to old school it😅

My ford focus sometimes is jerky when in first or second gear, is jumpy and then its alright. When coming to a stop the trasmission has audible sounds, kind of annoying. I sometimes just put the trasmission in Neutral with the start position and it kinda resets the thing. I think is when I drive for too long that it happens again. I checked the forks and those spin back with no problem and very strongly. All this started to happen when I disconnected the battery to chanche a bulb connector that got toasted in the texas heat

sounds like it may just be a noisy jerky clutch, nothing to worry about

Same when going from 1st to 2nd, got the k05 tcm in reprogrammed and still does it, New a and b actuators, the forks work as they should when turned and still does it

@reckersnation3600 Driving by using the L before going into the ~3000rpm and the car drives smooth. I thought reprogramming would do it, where did you get yours reprogrammed?

@@Mozart0230 forscan allows you to reprogram it but I'm just gonna go new clutch, and forks route already pulled it just waiting on parts should be here in a few days

Kind of an Antique today I suppose. I got one (AX4S) in a 1998 FORD WINDSTAR that's on its way out. The Van I have had since NEW in 1998 as a Company Vehicle, and Bought it when I retired in 2007. I don't think the Van is worth $400 (169K MILES), So I suppose my best hope is it Dies on my Street 😂 and Not in Traffic. Tranny is having the Slow to Engage Issue, but it still Drives and shifts, I have to Feather the Gas coming to a Stop Often to get it to go into 1st Gear. Anyway, I am not able to do the repair myself so I'll run it to Failure and DONATE IT??? Have No Access to any GOOD Help Either. 🤷‍♂.

I saw a lot of vidoes about lubing these when I bought my car. Definitely not the way to go.

So I think my fork spline in A position are toast. It won’t recoil back from a turn annd it’s loose ans well and stuck when I turn it with the to. and the car won’t start well or change gear when accelerating.
What is the fix in this case? Do I need a whole new fork A? Do I need to drop the transmissions and open for that?

    • @BigBensCarsAndCycles
      @BigBensCarsAndCycles  2 วันที่ผ่านมา

Hi, yeah and i've got videos for pulling the transmission out and doing the clutch/fork job with no special tools. And i've got links in those videos for all the parts you need.

just turn counter clockwise whole with some tool which fits, spray bake cleaner to clean all dust from bearing without leaving to recoil, the ball bearing cleans up, keep roatating anti clockwise and clockwise back and forth spray some more while holding to anticlockwise to thoroughly clean the bearing which is getting stuck, now put some vegetable oil instead of wd40(which eats rubber bushing overtime). put actuator back. turn on key, turn off 3 times for actuator to adjust to position then start the car.
its 8 months and car still shifts smoother than before. its just that small bearing inside the whole fork assembly which moves actuator pinion.

P287A code, no reverse, 2nd, 4th etc. Flushed worm gear and erased code, worked for 40 or so miles, same issue. Wish I could find a way to free this up without pulling the transmission, since that code would not indicate TCM or actuator. :-?

I've heard of people drill holes so they can spray brake cleaner onto the forks from the outside, and a drain hole

Do you have a video on this? In general, I want to clean the clutch dust from the forks to allow smoother shifting.

Hello Ben thank you for this info but please help me with this ...when I drive over some amount of water say, the volume that touches under the base of the car for some time, I have transmission problems...it lags in shifting gears and finally after some time, it wouldn't move when I shift in drive nor reverse. What could be the problem...I had my forks changed about 3 months earlier. And car starts but no movements

Hi, I'm from Poland. My car Ford B-Max 1.6ti-vct 6dct250. When it's cold it's ok. After driving 10 km they often occur
    vibrations in 3rd gear
In 5th gear the revs go up. What could be wrong?. no errors. Regards.

Hi, you can replace both clutch actuators with new genuine OEM ones. That should fix your issue. If for some reason it doesn't then you can do a clutch/fork/slave cylinder job

Hey Ben, so if the forks are starting to bind up, is the clean then lube process not the way to go now?
Side question: Is there any new info on the dust drain hole solution some have come up with to keep clutch material from binding to the internals?
Thanks as always for your fantastic info for the Focus community.

@jeffclontz3772 if the forks are binding yes I'd spray some. But if you're diagnosing I wouldn't spray just as a hail mary
