    No, this isn't Aston Martin's new mid-size four-door entry, although you could be forgiven for making the mistake. The new design is as shocking and striking as the old Fusion was bland. Making your mass-market car over-styled is risky, but despite the Fusion's rump being less daring than its schnoz, it manages to avoid looking cartoonish like the last generation Sonata. The Aston mini-me styling is refreshing in a segment where "restrained" and "slab sided" are the mantra of the day. The new Accord is elegant for sure, but the large green house screams family sedan. The current Camry attempts to meld an edgy nose with refrigerator flat door panels. Even the stylish (in comparison) Altima looks far less exciting. Styling is subjective and I usually avoid commenting on design directly, but the Fusion is an exception. This Ford is quite simply the best looking sedan in America under $40,000.

    I think one factor that needs to be considered in the ownership equation for the Fusion 1.5 is the longevity of the boosted engine. Many folks buy Accords, Camrys and Altimas to run the wheels off them for well past the decade mark. The jury is out on how long the small boosted engine will hold up under the higher temp and pressure operating parameters. Never mind all the extra hardware that can fail like the turbo and be very expensive to repair.

    I just bought a 2015 Fusion SE with the 1,5 and its fairly well loaded it has the Sync with the Nav,Sirius 18 wheels and few other things. But I have to say at 64 I have owned many cars, This is one the best ever the 1,5 has tons of power plus good gas milage handles and rides great , quiet What a sweet ride I love it !

    Great reviews man, no BS no gimmicks ALOT of detail, one thing that is missing is a full shot of the trunk you are always in it and the shot is from the side. It would make it perfect (for me) if you point the camera to the end of the trunk so you can view the entire trunk space (add a light if its too dark i guess). That said, I unsubscribed from all my car shows and am now only subscribed to yours, thank you, keep up the great work.

      @@AAutoBuyersGuide I know this is a old video, but I purchased a 2015 titanium, I'm going to guess with all the bells and whistles. The Ford touch screen, rear spoiler, etc. It looks like the same color as this one you reviewed. Although it looks a lot like a metallic bronze? Maybe. My question is I can't tell which engine I have. It's a Ecoboost, it has the + & - shifting paddles on the steering wheel. Dual exhaust pipes but not sure on the 1.5 or 2.0L turbo. Is there a way to tell? The engine compartment sticker has different sizes for the motor. I highly recommend this car, I love it. Great review also, and thank you for any information.
      Also, I'm not sure if it's AWD or fwd either. If there's a way to tell.

    Awesome review - I really like that we're finally getting efficient engine choices in the US for other classes of cars than just subcompacts. I'm really curious to see how the MPG of the 1.5 lives up to real world driving. In my experience, Ford's have under performed compared to the EPA estimates.

    I have a '13 Fusion and I agree with much that Alex says. I do have one big issue with the car. The B pillar is really wide. Wider than every other mid size car I've seen. I am tall and with the seat back all the way I have severe visibility issues. Ford tries to get around it with the inset mirror in the side view, but I have had some close calls with highway driving and intersections.

    I watched all of your reviews for mid-size cars. I opted for the Chrysler 200. The intuitive UConnect system is better, in my opinion, than the Ford's version. Also, I liked the ventilated front leather seats in the 200 and the ergonomics. I just felt better inside of it. And, while the Fusion does look aggressive, sexy, and very sporty... the 200, I think, looks a little bit more classy and elegant.
    Either way... thanks for reviewing the cars but thank even more for comparing them to each other and identifying which needs may be best suited by which cars.

    If this Fusion is ANYTHING like my 2010,It is well worth the money! I drive my 2010 Fusion S/E as an Atlanta Taxi! It has 206K miles and has been the best investment I ever bought! If you run Midgrade gas, like I do ALWAYS,,I have NEVER once had a check engine light on! I run synthetic blend oil and now full synthetic. I get 23MPG always better for straight HWY! 206K on the same spark plugs-NEVER a misfire! The 6 speed transmissions do sometimes have problems but I keep mine serviced and have been driving it as a taxi putting 250 miles a night average! I've been LUCKY! But Ford Fusion with 2.5 is all you need S/E well equipped and cheaper- Don't go base-go 1 or 2 trims up!

    Alex, I've been enjoying your reviews as I shop for a new car. I'm confused by the ruler, though, that you use to line up models Smaller to Bigger. 2:00 Are you talking interior space? Length of the car? What is the scale unit?
    Also, why is the Civic in this comparison -- wouldn't that be compact? -- and why didn't you include the Sonata? I wouldn't ask these questions to any other reviewer, but you ARE the detail guy! :)

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      scrabtree1 It's a relative exterior size comparison, so I include vehicles that you may be familiar with so you can get a better idea of the overall size. Exterior side *usually* translates to increased interior room.

    I rented the 2014, I don't know which engine it had but I was impressed. Car is fuel efficient, roomy, quiet, comfortable... I didn't like the entertainment system... It is simple but at the same time it can make easy things complicated for what there are. The trip computer is excellent, power is well enough for city and highway. I didn't like the front driver pillar, it restricted visibility for me. Trunk was big but I had the idea that it would be bigger, don't know why. Everything else is great.

    Great Video. The class exclusive keypad on the driver's door can be a real life saver if your child locks himself in the car with the keys and 1,000 other ways.
    I know Mazda was supposedly releasing a USA Diesel engine, but I wish Ford would bring over the Diesel engine for the Fusion. 45 mpg in a non Hybrid would be an amazing asset for the USA market.
    I rented a 2014 Fusion 2.0 Auto and put 5,000 miles on it and was impressed with the agile handling and 31.4 mpg overall.
    I think Ford really did their homework on the Fusion and I could see it maybe becoming a number 1 selling USA car, especially with the new production line building Fusions, in Michigan now.
    Great Video

    • @DanielBlaney
      @DanielBlaney 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The problem with diesels in the US market is the cost of the powertrain as well as the cost of the fuel. The other issue is that hybrids still demolish diesels when it comes to city fuel economy (stop and go).

    • @fastrace011
      @fastrace011 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Daniel Blaney yes, true, but several of my co workers who have bought 5-7 year old used Toyota Prius cars. They enjoyed 40+mpg for 3-4 years, then the cars broke down(just flat out stalled in traffic) and had to be towed in for $5,000 new battery packs, which deleted all the fuel savings for the next 25 years. Too bad these cars can't be driven once the battery pack goes on the gas engine alone.

    I enjoy my 15 1.5 SE, but have had issues with it since month 1. It has spent 40+ days in the shop from August until now (purchased in July 2015). The dealer, and ford engineering have had no clue what is going on with it, and I feel are now shooting from the hip. It will intermittently no crank, no start(then start after I re-cycle the key) after a 20 minute drive, a walk into McDs for breakfast, and going back out to finish my drive to work. I spent three weeks with a flight recorder on the car, and following the dealerships instructions, the car would not act up. I threw the instructions out the window so to speak, and just followed my normal routine, and it did it. (The dealer wanted me to put the key in accessory, wait for their computer to boot up, then start the car, I eventually just said screw it and sat in the car and started it like normal) I got it to do it with the normal routine, but the computer wasn't ready, I only got the computer to boot up once in time to take a snapshot of it (after it happened). They are now saying the car "thinks its in gear" and is preventing itself from starting, and are going to replace the transmission range sensor. I have already filed lemon law at this point, and am waiting to hear back on that, and kinda hope the new sensor doesn't fix it... I have gotten spoiled in my rental cars... Mustang convertible during some BEAUTIFUL weather, and have had two 2016 MKXs that were FANTASTIC. After this... I am going back to Subaru.

    • @717dash_cam
      @717dash_cam 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** Actually the 1.5 turbo is plenty peppy when needed and has more HP than the 2.5. I would like the 2.0 turbo however for the AWD, but I digress because I grew spoiled with the 3.7 liter V6 in the MKXs that I had, and enjoyed their pickup, ride, and handling. My old fusion was a 2.5, and it wasn't bad, but with these engines, whether naturally aspirated or turbocharged, there are dead spots. They were created for economy, not all out performance.

    • @717dash_cam
      @717dash_cam 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      ***** I have a warranty for the life of my loan, so the long run isn't a concern, as I am usually one to trade once out of a loan, and don't hit mileage limits. Will probably trade it as soon as I am no longer upside down, and finally go into a lease, and trade every three years. Subaru is where I am going afterward...

    • @717dash_cam
      @717dash_cam 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I agree with all of that, I had a 2010 for 18 months prior to this one, with the 2.5, bought it with 18k on it, and traded it with around 33k. I made a mistake when buying it, as it was a lemon law buyback, (It was a nice and reliable car overall) but in June, the transmissions reverse return spring broke, which was 900 out of pocket, and 900 that ford covered, which is better than the 4 grand the dealer quoted me for a new transmission, but I was out of warranty, and traded it for said reason during the end of summer sale, and got 5 grand off my 15, and 72 months at 0%, plus 90 days deferred payment. As I said before, I love my 1.5 ecoboost (and definitely agree the 2.5 is sluggish, but you should try a 2008/9 with the mazda 2.3... THAT was a slug of an engine), but with me running into two lemons I think I am done with ford after this car... I am going to get to the point where, I am no longer upside down, and go into a lease on a Subaru. I will give both dealers credit though. The service manager worked with me with the 2010, and got ford to agree to pay for my rental, and the repair assistance, and the new dealer I went to for purchase and service of my 2015 (more convenient to get to where I work) has gotten me in some very nice rentals (a mustang convertible during beautiful weather, and 2 Lincoln MKXs during longer times in the shop) The CSM is working to possibly get me schedule maintenance contract for free at this point... so that will be nice.

      goatmudiay No, I get that shit breaks... I was pissed but understood my 2010 as it had 30+k miles on it... so Yes, mechanical shit breaks... but My BRAND NEW 2015 with less than 700 miles on the clock has no crank no start issues (car thinks its in gear). 3000 Miles, and countless trips (at least 15) to the to the dealer with no resolution. THAT is why I am avoiding ford for any future car purchases.

    I'm surprised about the fuel economy you received in this fusion, especially considering that consumer reports recorded 24 mpg overall (16city/34hwy) in this while they recorded 32 mpg overall (22city/44hwy) in the Mazda 6...guess the eco tires and start/stop system really help a lot

    • @pioneer7777777
      @pioneer7777777 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      How did consumer reports get 24 MPG in an engine setup that's rated 25/37? That's some over the top driving to get those numbers. With larger cars like these you need to use your momentum as much as possible and coast to boost your efficiency.

    • @sic22l
      @sic22l 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Fusion has turbocharged engine with completely different characteristics than Mazda's naturally aspirated mill. They were probably trashing it a bit without using low revs that's why they got such numbers (you really need to race between the lights to get less than 23mpg city with 1.5/1.6 Ecoboost).

    • @mb013962
      @mb013962 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      pioneer7777777 They got 25 in the 1.6l oddly enough, I personally want to test drive this car to see what it is really capable of because so many people have not been getting the EPA numbers but it clearly did pretty well in this "non-hypermiler" review

      Yep, Ford shifted 0ver 306,000 of them in 2014 easily beating the Sonata Malibu and Optima by a large margin. Mind you, the Fusion has been fourth only for the past few years so there are still many more Camrys and Accords on the road.

    Alex, if you had to choose between a Fusion 1.5 and a Sonata 2.4 to drive every day, which would it be?

    • @AAutoBuyersGuide
      @AAutoBuyersGuide  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +bradh716 Probably the Sonata

    • @bradh716
      @bradh716 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      +Alex on Autos I went with the Fusion 1.5. The reports of Hyundai not honoring their warranty scared me away. While the Sonata is more feature packed, the handling of the Fusion is a big deal. When I pull in the driveway after my one hour commute, I am a bit disappointed that I am done driving the Fusion for the day. I just want to keep on driving because it handles so well. And as I get more used to the drivetrain, I am able to get better and more refined acceleration. Performance is noticeably better in sport mode. But I only use it to have fun occasionally so I don't wreck my fuel mileage. The funny thing is, I would almost rather have the tech package that your tester had than the MyTouch in mine. The tried and true climate control knobs and the instrument cluster layout that allows viewing of coolant temp, fuel level, fuel economy, and tach all at the same time are just more practical in my opinion. The fact that Ford doesn't have Pandora integrated into the touch screen yet is a bummer. But, overall, I am happy with my purchase. Thanks for doing what you do. It helped me choose what I believe is the best car for me.

    Great video as always. There's only one thing I want to mention, and it's predicted reliability. I think it's very important criteria for people looking for a new car. Specially now, seeing all those fancy small displacement engines w/turbo ...there's no way they will be as reliable as bigger, naturally aspirated 2.fours or .fives from Honda, Mazda, Toyota etc... not to mention more expensive maintenance of turbocharged engines. Therefore I'm ready to pay a little more upfront and have piece of mind that I won't spend 2 times more in dealership later on.

      Agreed, Tomasz - Alex, love your reviews in general, and, found this one to be quite informative. However, as a result of your numerous comparisons to competing models, (and on my own) I intuitively yearned for commentary regarding reliability. I get that reliability stats are sometimes derived and henceforth perceived from a skewed basis, but, perhaps a thoughtful addition to your repertoire?

    Stay away from this particular 1.5L ecoboost. The engine has many problems. I have 2015 Ford Fusion SE 1.5L and I am replacing the engine right after 100K (103k). Coolant leak in the combustion chamber along with oil leak. Overheat, and low oil level all the time. Front right brake blows on the street road no pressure at all. White smoke. Even the front headlights costs an arm and leg to replace due to the configuration (all front/bumper must be disabled in order to put the new light bulb in there. Head gasket blows right after the 60K warranty. Stay away!! He said everything in this video but did not mention engine power train. He did not discuss engine fail, coolant loss in combustion chamber then white smoke through exhaust. The Ford silly warranty is a rape! They know that this engine is built not to last longer than the warranty. And guess what about 299 customer had same problems and no recall yet! Weird!?! The manufacturer is fixing defeated engines and sell them again. It s a complete rape to consumers. Don’t speak about the cover! Speak about the engine! Too late for me. But at least I would like that other customers don’t get fooled with this high speed town hall talk.
