      I just realized that the phrase "hitting on all cylinders" means it's operating normally. People mean that they're doing exceptionally well, but a machine firing on all cylinders is a machine doing what it's designed to do. It wasn't designed to work on just a few cylinders, it was designed to use all of them, in a specific order, consistently; anything less means it needs repairs.

    I don't think "Fernando Torrento"was ever an actual car in GTA, and yet you still managed to perfectly encapsulate the naming scheme for an car in GTA. That analogy was possibly the most perfect thing I could think of for the Fusion.

    • @anthonyreynolds2365
      @anthonyreynolds2365 ปีที่แล้ว +22

      Except it wasn't.
      I used to drive the PHEV version. They threw the entire air cooled battery in the trunk. It removed almost all the usable trunk space.
      Unlike what Honda did with the Accord/Clarity and split the battery between the trunk and under the back seat so you know.. you could still have a trunk.
      I would have kept it if it wasn't for that.
      I'll also add that the rear struts and strut mounts were completely shot. Probably when I bought it at 70K miles. They were leaking and the tires were cupped at 100K. Was only on the outer tread on inside side so I didn't see the tire wear until I had a flat in the middle of my work parking lot. Ford likely never put upgraded parts to account for the extra 600lbs of battery.
      Some asshole bought that thing new for $45K MSRP, fully loaded with ACC except for the self parking feature. I got it for $12,500 OTD and the dealer listed it at $13,500. They didn't want it on the lot anymore in 2016, probably because no one wanted a PHEV then. Ridiculous depreciation drop.

      @SlabSheetrock ปีที่แล้ว +14

      @@anthonyreynolds2365 That was kind of my point. The trunk without the battery pack was huge because it was designed to have a battery pack in it. And yes, the battery pack did take up a fair amount of the trunk space.

    Your car search talk is scary accurate. It blows my mind how many people either go to a dealer and buy the first car they sit in or ask for buying advice and completely ignore or complain about it. Probably the funniest story about this was someone calling the car pro radio show and being given a few recommendations for what they were needing and then calling back for a self own to tell him they bought the BMW instead of the Lexus even though they shouldn’t have because they aren’t sure they can actually afford it.

    I have a '17 model that I got at 63k for 14.5k. I made damn sure to get the 2.5 NA engine. With that engine you lose the higher trims usually but it's a really well designed engine. I couldn't care less about the creaks, lack of luxury items and finer stuff just give me an engine that is simple and reliable lol. So far it's been a huge step up compared to my last car, an 03 Malibu and in the 2-ish years that I have owned it i only have had to do is oil changes, front pads+rotors and a wheel bearing. Thankfully it came with the Sync 3 but regular buttons for the ac controls.

I put 91 in it for shits and giggles and it came alive, like 52 year old Bobby Unser winning the Pikes Peak Rally again. I will be honest and say that the interior quality is god awful and it felt outdated even when it was new but I hold a special respect for it, because it showed me that basic ass sedans can have some fun when given the right chances. I used to be a GM guy, but out of all the cars I have ever had; only my Ford's have never given me problems.
      I had a 1995 Grand Marquis as my first car, and I abused the ever living hell out of that car. Jumped curbs, doughnuts, rockfords, J turns, jumped a few railroad tracks, and even went mudding in it once. It never once let me down for the three years I had it. Sold it to a family friend with 198K, and it served them as a daily for years while they completely neglected it.
      My uncle gave me his 04 Expedition Eddie Bauer that he bought new as a company car. It had 279K when I got it, and I drove it everywhere, used it for Lyft, took it off road, and went on vacation in it. I finally traded it in on my 2015 Fusion Hybrid when it had 338K. From new that truck only needed one ignition coil. Even the factory AC and cooled seats still worked.
      My uncle also gave me a 00 F-150 XL 4.6 that he bought as a company service truck. It had 170K miles when I saved it from being sent to the junk yard after he thought the head gasket was blown. Turns out it just needed a new water pump. I have since given it to my parents as their daily driver. it now has 240K and has only needed the alternator replaced. It was never cared for since new, but still asks for more abuse.
      I have been driving my 2015 Fusion Hybrid for the last three and half years. I got it with 55K, and it now has 130K miles; all without giving me a single problem.
      I never intended on being a Ford guy, but they won me over.

There's a lot called out here that is valid, but I have to also admit that my 2020 has gone 2.5 years without a recall or any major mechanical work. Just maintenance has kept it running the last 20k miles without a single issue. Maybe that's due to 7 years of Ford figuring out what not to do, or maybe it's luck. We've had a Fusion Hybrid for a decade. It's been trouble free, gets 37 mpg on trips, is comfortable and well put together and has room for all of us. We got it at a discount off MSRP, no money down and 0% interest back when that was possible. One of the best purchases we've ever made.

    Great vid! Love Romans fake commercials lately! Fords mission for their middle sedan hasn't seemed to change much since the 80s. Its equivalent then was the Tempo. You could get it in awd then too, looked good, and was rental car fun to drive.

    I owned a 2014 Fusion for nine years, from new. Literally nothing ever went wrong with it in 120,000 miles. While I never loved it, I was really torn on trading it in when I bought a new car last year. It was thoroughly acceptable. This review is pretty spot on 😂

    I had a friend who's girlfriend owned one of these. They deserve the Fusion. You're line of "It makes you worry for the person that built it" was one of the first thoughts I had climbing into the back seat. They asked me what I thought of it, I told them it was a car. (Also cars still use SD cards for navigation primarily GM and Ford. I worked in a factory that produced car parts and we would frequently find them left in shipping crates)

    I ended up buying I think a 2015 se with the 4cylinder engine. Let me share with you, my experience with this car:
    -The trunk _is_ spacious. Lotta room for storage.
    -Back seat space is pretty ample as well.
    -We sprung for the heated leather upgrade. It was well worth it. Its a comfortable ride.
    --Those were about all of the positives I could muster for it. Here is all of the bad:
    -It had loads of recalls. At one point, I let them pile up until the next oil service/tire rotation. I think we had to do like 7 of them at once. The number of recalls was insane.
    -I wasn't nice to my car. I mean, I gave it tire rotations, oil changes, and check-ups on the regular, but we also drove it from Maryland to Michigan every summer and winter we had it. and I would floor it, petal to the metal because it was an 8 hour drive, and I was driving about 80 percent of it. We had it for five years. It STRUGGLED dealing with Pennsylvania's hills. It was too much car with too little engine capacity.
    -At about 50,000 miles (or 5k miles before the warranty expired), I experienced issues with the motor. Long story short, after spending 500.00 for a "tune-up", the dealer discovered that it was a cracked head gasket. Whole motor got replaced under warranty. That took nearly a whole month in which I wasn't provided with a "loaner" vehicle for about half of it. Thankfully, I work from home.
    -After the engine replacement, the infotainment console (which, much like in this video was all touch based) and some core functions would randomly misbehave.
    -There was a time where the infotainment console just refused to turn on during a long road trip, and another instance where it just started cycling between all of the air conditioning/heating settings repeatedly. Then another instance where the windshield wipers refused to engage. At which point, we gave up on it, and traded it in... for a 2019 ford edge ST. I know there were better choices out there, but at least I got A/Z plan on it, and 0 APR.
    My final gripe about this thing was that the body clearance for the fusion is plain and out ABYSMAL. I lived in Maryland and would come back home to Detroit regularly. Ford motor HQ and the pilot plant (new production model testing) are both located in southeast michigan. How in the world this thing managed to pass production with such abysmal body clearance was an UTTER MYSTERY. Every time I backed out of my driveway, or entered a parking lot the wrong way, the air dam would scrape. It was never bad enough to shred it and dislodge it, but it would skid ALMOST CONSTANTLY on the slightest inclines. Given Michigan roads are in awful condition (and some parking lots are even worse), but most of the vehicles are tested in southeast Michigan. I still have no idea how this got past testing.
    Thanks as always for the review fellas, and take care.

    Another perfect video, and right on the nose. This was my daily driver for 6 years. 2013 SE with all the addons you could do, I don't know why they didn't just get the Titanium since the only thing mine didn't have that the Titanium did was a better engine. I think the previous owners went over board because I go it cheap and it was only a year old with under 6k miles on it. It was a decent and serviable car.
    At the time I loved the baby Aston Martin vibe that it had and the tech was better than my previous car by a long shot. It was the pearl white but with a nice tint on the windows and larger tires it looked okay and my younger self felt special in it for a brief moment. That is until my county bought a felt of them in white because of course they did, its a very practical car for government.

    While at the Hyundai dealership, getting my Sonata serviced, I was strolling around their cold cars under $20k. Jimmy told me I was in the “Red Zone” for work needed exceeded $10k. My Sonata was almost 15 years old and had almost 100k miles on the clock so I said “Well heck fire Norman. I’d feel like Pierce Brosnan in this slick Fusion.” My armrest needed to be reupholstered anyhow. The firm handshake and $3800 trade-in I got on my old Hyundai made me feel like I finally sewed one of those old Wild Oats. I don’t miss the glass plant that much anymore (since I was forced into retirement). I think on the way home, I’ll switch it up further, and get Quiznos instead of Subway for dinner, and pop in disc 4 of Kung Fu: The Legend Continues and pour myself a glass of ice cold RC Cola. Wait till the guys at the YMCA see me pull up for swim meet on Tuesday! I think I have an extra “NO HOPE IN COMMUNISM” bumper sticker next to my cigar box! What a day! ~Just what popped into mind.

      As someone with a 2019 Hybrid SE model, they're definitely cheap for the price. Later-years like the 2017+ models have less problems, but avoid the 2.0L. If you want reliability, get the Hybrid, Energi, or 2.5L Duratec. Theyre slow and unsatisfying, but they're fine for the price.
