  • This is the seventieth in a series of videos I’m going to produce to document the building of my Trumpeter 1:200 model Titanic. In this episode I cover the fitment of the chia 3D Hawse Pipe:
    - Cutting the old one off the model.
    - Fitting the new hawser.
    - Filling sanding the gaps.
    - Repainting the area.
    - Applying a wash to weather the new paint and to blend it into the model.
    If you want to see more regular updates have a look at my Instagram page (same name as the channel). I post photos as I'm building there so you don't have to wait for the videos to be edited!

    Yay, you did it! The model looks more majestic now and I think that's worth all the time and effort it took

      Cheers Garry, I’m glad i did it in the end. But there is a very real moment when you think, there’s no turning back now!

      @@TheModelBoatGuy It's not even my model and I must admit, I did feel a little nervous when there was a gaping hole left in the hull, but the sanding work and paint job really makes the replacement seamless. I'm going to be gutted when you're finished this model.

    Hi Rob, Well done , I knew that you were uncomfortable with this daft Trumpeter eyesore! You did the job really well and the result was remarkable considering what was involved.
    That was a once started must finish event with no going back! My event for the day (21st) went well despite the shocking weather! Good job as usual!! JH ⚓

      Hi John, thank you! There was certainly a moment just after starting to saw where you realise there is absolutely no way back now! Very glad it ended up ok in the end.
      Glad the event went ok despite the weather. Keep well,
      Robbie 🙂

    I am def going to be doing the same thing! But I will install mine before the entire hull is painted. Great job Rob! Excellent work as always! Cheers!

      Hi there, fitting the pipe before painting is defiantly the preferred option! Hope the conversion goes ok for you 🙂

    Was the Trumpeter Haws pipe ‘Really’ that bad that it pays to go to this amount of time and trouble? 😮

      Having done prop replicating and museum quality models for countless years, to an average model builder your answer is, no. To the average person it wouldn't be noticeable let alone the majority of them knowing what the name of the Haws pipe is. However, some model makers, myself included, who want as true as possible likeness, it is. I do this for accuracy and also as a way to further my model making skills. So speaking personally, it's two fold and completely worth it. In the end, it's just personal preference. Side note, I just finished scratch building a WWII fighter in 1:20 scale using original blueprints and have everything almost perfectly scaled down. Necessary, no, but I love the finished product.

      Hi Paul, it depends really. It’s one of those things that irritated me. I think if I hadn’t realised the issue was there I’d have been fine, but because I knew it wasn’t quite right it niggled me!

    hey Rob it looks great but there is also on the port side at the top of the bow by the center anchor , there was a hatch or some kind of door way I guess if you want to call it that so they could remove the center anchor if they ever needed to, was wondering if you where going to add that item or not,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,great job keep it up.

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there, im not familiar with that hatch, do you mean on the deck itself? If so i'll have to have a look at this and get it sorted. I need to revisit that area anyway to put the anchor crane in and the railings so i'll have a look then.

      @rockiefolley8890 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheModelBoatGuy I call it a hatch but that's not the correct wording, it's on the port side at the bow at the top of the ship, it was used to be able to remove the center anchor if they felt it necessary to replace it or if it needed repaired for whatever reason, that was the only way get access to that anchor.

    Painting areas of rust along the hull would probably add a MUCH more realistic real to life look.

      Yes, but Titanic was newly painted a day or so before she left Southampton. Her livery was pristinely clean to make a big impression for her maiden trip. And boy did she leave an impression, am I right? (sitcom laugh track)

    • @TheModelBoatGuy
      @TheModelBoatGuy  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi there. I need to do a little more weathering. Her port side will have been pretty smart as that side was repainted for the maiden voyage (that was the side that faced Southampton docks)! But yes I will do a little more rust in places, and I might add a small amount of green at the plate seems beneath the waterline, possibly a bit of distress under pipe outlets too
