Most of the biopics that I have loved were when talented actors/actresses knew how to lip sing so we'll, that they made it believable. Beyonce did the same thing with Etta James and did the role no justice. This movie will have a soundtrack and what better way to bring up Jennifer's sales, than to have her record it. J.Hud has never done well with her own personal albums. J.Hud can sang don't get me wrong, but she isn't considered a soulful, out of the box singer. She can take patriotic songs and sing under the table(national anthem, etc.) She struggles with soulful interpretation and head tones that should just come naturally. Imagine saying Kelly Price should play Patti LaBelle...both have vocal range, but different styles and delivery.

I think JHud is beautiful and has a powerful voice... it's just not the most pleasant all the time. Unfortunately, she just does not have that smooth, angelic tone Aretha had in her youth... that screaming is not going to get it. Which is why even Fantasia wouldn't be the best choice in my opinion.

Both Jennifer and Fantasia are terrific singers. But Jennifer is the modern day Aretha. That voice is impossible and when Jennifer sings her voice commands the stage no need to run around and dance or anything other than sing and that was Aretha. Fantasia's voice is great but it doesn't have the richness or the complex layers that I hear in Jennifer's voice and that is what Aretha had back in the day. So with Jennifer's voice and the fact that she's an Academy Award winner, the choice was a no-brainer. Of course, Beyoncé wasn't in the running after she called Tina Turner the Queen of Soul! (LOL!)

Whitney Houston, who was already a big star, wasn't an experience actress when she did The Bodyguard and that movie and its soundtrack ended up catapulting Whitney Houston into a even bigger star. This Aretha Franklin biopic could help do the same thing for Fantasia. Plus Aretha and Fantasia have similar backgrounds. They both came from a church upbringing and had children at a young age. And their voices are somewhat similar in style. Let's not count Fantasia out. She could possibly be the only person who could play Aretha Franklin just like Jamie Foxx playing Ray Charles.
