This is one of the most underrated martial arts movie, with a hint of historical facts too. Hope you do the sequels, to see how they slip Bruce Lee into the narrative.
While, during the war, Ip Man did indeed refuse to teach his martial arts to the military police of the occupying Japanese - a decision which eventually forced him to flee Foshan - he certainly never had a duel with a Japanese general.” So, although the film had inaccuracies, Yip Man was as real as any other human
My father is a martial art student of Ip Man's second son, Ip Ching, where my father is also a Master It is inaccurate that Ip Man fought with a general, but he did refuse to teach the Japanese and whoop some soldiers' ass. I heard that myself from Grand Master Ip Ching when I was a little kid, following my dad to the Martial Art School in Hong Kong.
Sadly, its not a Cinderella story. The main character didnt become a billionare at the end of the movie. There begins what Chinese called century of humiliation.
The scene where all the workers are fighting the mercenaries. There’s a scene where one of the older lady starts off with the wing chung. Does pretty well for who it is in the beginning. Then she starts to get her ass kicked. Mid fight she changes from wing chung to just straight up throwing random punches with eyes closed. Cracks me the fk up
DONNIE YEN IP MAN MOVIES ARE BASED OFF SOME OF THE LIFE STORY OF THE REAL MASTER YIP WHO WAS BRUCE LEE’S SENSAI, ALSO MANY DONT KNOW THAT DONNIE YEN’S MOTHER OR GRANDMASTER IS A RETIRED GRANDMASTER SO HE KNEW OF MARTIAL ARTS, KARATE AND WING CHUN BEFORE BECOMING AN ACTOR. If im not mistaken the last IP MAN movie with Donnie Yen is MASTER Z: IP MAN LEGACY, all the other versions are spin off with different actors that the tv series & movies tell about the extended life of Grandmaster Yip who had four children (two sons and two daughters) but the two daughters were rarely ever shown, seen or heard about and the sons followed in their father’s footsteps. I think the real Mr. Yip was married twice which his two daughters came years later after losing his first wife (I could be wrong though).
Yes! Thank you so much for this reaction, Donnie Yen is not only an incredible martial artist, but an amazing actor as well! I really hope you react to the sequels :D
Great reaction and post-movie discussion. Much more respectful than many of the fake reaction videos doing it only for clickbait and subs. Many many modern Western audiences don't get the context and symbolism of the movie even if they like the flick and do understand the gist of the story. There is a fundamental reason why the Chinese hate and despise the Imperial Japanese (some still do today) because of the cruelty of the Japanese Imperial expansion and occupation of Asia, which began in China. Americans and the rest of the world were introduced to Imperial Japanese brutality during Pearl Harbour, but the Chinese and the rest of Asia had suffered and endured much more prior to that. This movie continues the decade-old theme of shedding the label "Sick Men of Asia" given to the Chinese (thanks to the import of Opium by the then "Great Powers" to cripple the population via opium addiction, and to bribe corrupt Imperial Chinese officials) as well as to preserve the dignity of the Chinese pride, culture and history. America had 200+ years of history, but China has over 10 times that, so imagine the crushing weight of the history behind what it means to be Chinese and their way of life being destroyed by the Imperial Japanese. This movie is without a doubt pro-China propaganda, besides being a very well made martial arts kungfu flick. The sequels continue the trend of telling stories of Grandmaster Yip Man overcoming biases, social challenges and racism. Hope you guys watch and react to the sequels, and hope you enjoy them.
Wow didn’t know that history it makes you appreciate the movie that much more and makes it more impactful. We are definitely going to be reacting to the rest of the movies. Here in a few weeks actually. Thanks for sharing and again thanks for watching!
When you saw the Chinese vs Japanese dojo and you both said" they're fighting someone who is healthy " in all the years I've seen this I never one thought that. Props!!!
For clarification, there's a reason they highlight the particular moves you noticed in this movie. For example, the scenes where Ip Man is unloading a "flurry" of punches as you put it; this is called Chain Punching, a signature move in Wing Chun. Instead of jabs, hooks, and winding crosses, the Wing Chun straight punch hits like a battering ram. One punch will hurt a little but Wing Chun teaches speed which is why you see a flurry of them doing cumulative damage which is designed to overwhelm the opponent. Regarding the factory fight, the long pole is one of the two signature weapons of Wing Chun. The "long" pole is deliberate, meaning a proficient user of this weapon can attack one (or several) opponents while maintaining a safe distance. If you watch the Ip Man sequels, you'll notice more of these highlights. For example, the One Inch Punch makes an appearance even though it was popularized by the late Bruce Lee.
As with all movies, there are a lot of things added that didn't transpire, but the movies are indeed based on true historical events. Donnie Yen is portraying the legendary Grandmaster IP man which is pronounced Yip Man, who was indeed a Grandmaster of Wing Chun a popular form of martial arts. There are many forms and styles of Wing Chun which is why there are so many different schools. Bruce Lee was indeed one of his pupils.
Best fight scenes of Ip Man and also added as the character video game of "Shaolin vs. Wutang part 1 & 2" if you fellas can check it out, you'll might think about playing that game anytime!
Spoiler: MASTER LUO survives in the next IP MAN movies, he’s taken care of by his son because he got irreversible severe brain damage & PTSD after getting shot in the head
First ones best but all 3, or 4? of the main movies are still worth a watch for sure, all great fight scenes. Not sure what kind of spin offs there are but I know there was one without Donnie Yen, and I turned it off cause it was garbage, so just make sure Donnie Yen is starring in it.
Maan don't cut the fights, your reaction is good, I don't understand why are you cutting the fights scene, just let it be, it would be more entertained watching the all fight with your reaction, hope I can watch more of your reaction fighting without cutting jajaj, great greetings 🙏
@@ReactionDragonz that's undertandable man, also there's a scene of Bruce Lee in Ip Man 4, you will find it easy in YT, it's an amazing fight, the actor is the best, he makes sounds like if it was Bruce lee, greetings, hope you see this and put your reaction in youtube🙏
Thanks for sharing ! We will be continuing this journey and can’t wait to see Bruce Lee in the movie series a true legend to say the least. Thanks again! 🐉

This is one of the most underrated martial arts movie, with a hint of historical facts too.

Underrated!? Oh gee, well what about tony Jaa movies? He is underrated as fuck and Hollywood did him dirty.

OH SNAPS!!!!!!!!! I love this movie man!!!! The fight scenes are spectacular!! 🙏🏽🙌
Probably the best martial arts movie ever. Good storyline and plot, good acting and characters, and awesome action and fight choreography.
IPMan is sooooo good! A classic! I'm glad you guys liked it!
My father is a martial art student of Ip Man's second son, Ip Ching, where my father is also a Master

I heard that myself from Grand Master Ip Ching when I was a little kid, following my dad to the Martial Art School in Hong Kong.
I think IpMan was ashamed at the end of the fight with 10 men. He lost his temper and was acting on anger and hate, which he is loath to do.
Based on true events involving Grandmaster Yip Man.
This movie series is awesome!! These movies are a true story.
This movie is not a true story. Ip Man did not fight/kill Japanese.
Ip man would have been even more unstoppable if he was blind and the force was with him
It has been said that WING CHUN was created but woman named Ng Mui, which he infused with his own style and made it globally popular.
Sadly, its not a Cinderella story. The main character didnt become a billionare at the end of the movie. There begins what Chinese called century of humiliation.

The Ip man dismantling the gun scene actually based on true event
