Speaking of which, Donnie Yen did come out with a new movie called Raging Fire that's also in theatres in US. Came out last friday. You can check availability on Well Go USA's website.
Fun fact: in the scene when Ip Man fought the southern man using duster, the southern man said he wanted to see how woman fights. He said that because Wing Chun kungfu style that Ip Man uses was originally developed as fighting style for girls by a Shaolin nun named Ng Mui after she saw a teenage girl being bullied by a bandit. In fact "Wing Chun" is the name of that bullied teenage girl who later became the nun's first student. Ip Man is the 7th generation student and Bruce Lee is the 8th. So Bruce Lee actually learned kungfu style that's specialized for girls and based on that he developed his own style, Jeet Kune Do.
While Bruce Lee learned Wing Chun from Ip Man, he passed it down to Dan Inosanto, who in turn taught it to his daughter Diana and her husband Ron Belicki, and then they both taught it to Rosa Salazar, who put it to good use in her role as Alita in "Alita: Battle Angel". In the story her fighting style was the fictional "Panzerkunst", but on film it was clearly heavily based on Wing Chun.
That time I always think about it, *“Martial arts for girl, huh? Why not?”* It can be very usefull especially in a very worst scenario on your daily activities.. Also, Wing-chun is actually pretty simillar to Kung-fu, which mean it's used only for self defense, not to kill..
@@dragulia_venaro A small point: "kung fu" in general means "skill acquired through practice", and here specifically means "martial arts", a blanket term for combat systems in China.
This one isn't historical either. Aside from "Ip Man existed" and "the Japanese occupied China" there's almost nothing in this movie that's historically accurate.
@Gerald H "Ip Man did fight General Miura" No he didn't. That never happened. "As for the martial arts, Donnie Yen trained for 9 months with Ip Ching, Ip Man's son and a Wing Chun Grandmaster, before starting the movie." That is true. However, it doesn't alter the fact that Wing Chun is functionally useless and has failed absolutely 100% of the time when it's tested in actual combat. Which is true of traditional Chinese martial arts in general.
Ip Man is amazing, he is historically known as the teacher of Bruce Lee. His teachings became the core of Bruce Lee’s fighting techniques, simplicity and intercepting.
That's why IP man stop teaching Bruce Lee wing chun advance technic..because he knows that Bruce Lee trained and fight emphasizes on speed, accurately and martial art phylosophy...Bruce Lee always challanged himself over beyond the limit...he also cast aside any useless technic and style because he feels it was a wasting effort to practice martial art that way....Bruce also doesn't want his style of martial arts to be confined or stuck on styles and the longer executions of the style...each martial arts school each have different style or technic which define which school the fighter coming from...but Bruce Lee doesn't like boring monotonous style in practice which doesn't guaranteed success ..all fighter always have this strong ambitions and commitment to the strongest...
Even though Bruce Lee did attend Ip Man's classes. He wasn't really trained by him personally as the Grandmaster doesn't trained newly beginning students and it is the senior students job to train them. So he was mostly taught by one of Ip Man's top students, Wong Sheung Leung. Yet, never completed his training above most of basics. Though his system of Jeet Kun Do would implement Boxing, Western Fencing and basic Wing Chun.
Bruce lee was never actually trained by Ip Man, his teacher was Wong Sheung Leung who was Ip Mans number 1 student, and bruce Only had 5 years of formal training and only completed the very basics of Wing Chun
This remains my favorite martial arts film of all-time. It's the one film in this genre that had me shedding tears. At its heart, there is an important message: say no to war, and yes to trade, so that we may all prosper, and so that our loved ones aren't taken from us.
When IP Man is angry you better run, you see the difference how he dealt with his fellow martial artists when they challenged him to a fight , he was not going all out and to hurt them but against Japanese martial artists he had no mercy , he was brutal.
When the Japanese soldier shot and killed the master it ticked me off. You get a sack of rice for each person you defeat. He beat one and lost to 3 so he won fair and square.
I am originally from Nanjing and now lives in Nanjing. Add my grandmother's personal experience, when I was a child to hear her grandmother said, listened to the whole body shudder. I can't really describe this human tragedy. In December 1937, the Japanese slaughtered the city. She was wrapped in a quilt and hid under the bed. She saw Japanese soldiers rape her neighbor's 23-year-old sister who had just given birth. The Japanese soldiers ground her baby into a stone mill, gathered it up, smashed her jaw, forced it into her mouth, and cut her belly to see. The Japanese aggressors laughed and laughed throughout.

The martial arts director and fight choreographer is actually Sammo Hung (The kung fu master who died in the ring in Ip Man 2), also a legendary action movie star in Hong Kong, one of the elder brother-apprentices of Jackie Chan
There's 2 different Ip Man series. There's 1-4 with Donnie Yen. That's one Series. Then there's Grandmaster Ip Man which is a trilogy of movies most of which is based around him being older. Actually, if you look at the opening credits, the name Ip Chun is credited as the "Chief Wing Chun Advisor." He's Ip Man's eldest son. Currently going 96 years old and still staying strong to this day.
THis was probably one of the greatest Martial arts movies created. Good plot and storyline, great characters, really good choreographed action too, really good introduction to everything and ending.
While Bruce Lee was a student of Ip Man there was a falling out between them when Ip Man refused to teach Bruce Lee certain parts of the Wooden Puppet and the Weapon Form. So Bruce Lee went to the USA and amalgamated several styles to create his own style, Jeet Kun Do, which was still mainly based on the first two forms of Wing Chun/Vin Chun, or one the many westernized spellings of the original name. But Bruce Lee incorporated many other styles' techniques. Some say it was to spite Ip Man, some say it was to show Ip Man that Bruce Lee should have been worthy of the further techniques and forms, some say it was to demonstrate the weaknesses in Wing Chun, and even others say to improve the styles. There will never be an answer to these questions as both Ip Man and Bruce Lee are now long dead. I had the fortune to study under a second generation student of Ip Man, become a sifu himself by then, when there still hadn't been the split among the many different styles of Wing Chun. I'll always remember the first rule: "Don't fight unless there is absolutely no other way. Always try to solve conflicts without violence." I love so much the change between "sparring" and "fighting" in this movie. When you watch the vs 10 men scene you know he was barely even trying in the fights in the beginning of the movie. Great reaction!
Man, that was great for you guys to watch it. These things are always in general 75-85% accurate to the history that they are reporting, but 20 if not 30 % are artistic liberties taken to compensate for a two hour time limit. Fantastic film, and your reactions here were equally fantastic!
You guys surprised me with this video. Ty. This series is one of my favorites. Would love to see you guys react to the other ones. I believe there are 3 other movies and a prequel movie
In real life, Yip was essentially that policeman character, though like the film he refused to teach the Japanese any martial arts. After the Japanese left, he sided against the communists during the civil war, leading to his family leaving for Hong Kong.
Not only that. He joined the Kuomintang at that time, and entered the intelligence department and provided information. Leading to the killing of some communists. This is why he fled to Hong Kong. At the same time, he left his wife and children on the mainland, because the Kuomintang retreated too quickly on the mainland, and he could only escape by himself. It took a few years to bring the child to Hong Kong. At least he did not join Japan.
love y'all reaction as always! i love ip man! especially the 2nd one. i highly recommend the raid 1 and 2 the raid 2 is really, really good! again, nice reaction!
There is a prequel called TCP Man... Jokes aside, watch "The Raid", another great action foreign movie. Or "Elite Squad", a movie from my country (Brasil) that I love.
OMG, YES! First of all, I love your channel! I love this movie for a special reason: A long time ago, when I was young, I used to practice Wing Chun, and seeing the moves I learned (and actually following the action) was so much fun. Of course, Donnie Yen is an absolute beast and the choreography makes it look cooler, but yeah, that's pretty much how it looks.
To be honest, so many people didn’t know what happened in Asia during World War II shocked me. What shocked me even more was that someone tried to defend the aggressor.
There's the people who defend the aggressor and there's people who defend the people who only did their job as a soldier not as war criminal I'm one of these two
@@thenorthstarsamurai If your home country is being invaded.Your family was killed or raped by the aggressor. If your property is plundered, will you still defend the aggressor?

People that actually deserve praise or atleast some sort of respect
Ip Man was Bruce Lee martial art instructor in Win Chu when he was young. Bruce Lee used to get into fights with gang members in Hong Kong, that is why his parents sent him to America because Bruce Lee was born in the United States.
I really enjoy watching the reaction coming from you guys hah. I was so surprised how good this movie was back then, especially since its past the golden era of HK movies.
Donnie Yen is a true living legend, this man invested his whole life in learning so many martial arts to level of mastery that Im not sure I have ever heard for someone else that have that level dedication in a lifetime. Watch also ''Fearless'' with Jet Li
Don't forget the Ip Man spin off movie. I believe its the guy Ip Man fights in the second movie that got his own movie. Also starring Drax himself, Dave Bautista, as well as Michelle Yeoh (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon) and a cameo by the Muay Thai Warrior, Tony Jaa. Also a great movie in the legacy of Ip Man.
Really great reviews. Cause u guys keep showing the movies more than talking like others youtubers. Keep doin it! And pls watch ipman 2, 3 & 4(the last one). Im waiting yr reviews!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
When Ip Man was sparring with Master Jin, the translation of when his son came out is slightly incorrect. He actually says "Papa, Mommy says if you don't START fighting everything in the home will be broken".

19:49 - lol I like how you guys reacted in the exact same way the theatre did in Hong Kong 😂 theatre got way too lit near the end, an attendant had to come in and tell everyone to sit down
Another thing that made the IP Man films special is that they are actually using Wing Chun Style Kung-Fu, not the universal standard Wushu Choreography that is used in most (if not all) other Martial Arts films. That and also Ip's Son, Ip Chun, personally trained Donnie.
I learned wing chun years ago; my teacher could trace his teacher's teacher's teacher right back to Grandmaster Ip Man. My dad, who is originally from Hong Kong, learned from Ip Man at his school in Kowloon when he was a teenager, Bruce Lee was a student there at the same time as him. The history and legacy of wing chun is still alive and well, it's still taught and practiced all over the world, with true wing chun schools all tracing their lineage back to Ip Man and his students. My dad and I love and are very proud of this movie; a lot of the techniques Donnie Yen uses in the film are real techniques that we learned ourselves (though he's a much better martial artist than us of course :P) The movie is fairly accurate (in terms of martial arts if not storyline) and is a great representation of what real Chinese martial arts is like. p.s. if you're interested in the origin and history of wing chun, try to find a movie called Yim Wing Chun starring Michelle Yeoh - what Master Jin said was true, wing chun was created by a woman ;)
@@latoyawinston1007 Ip Man's disciple Leung Seung mostly did the actual teaching - Ip Man was older by that time and wasn't there in person to teach children's classes a lot of the time - but in name yes, he was Ip Man's student. Bruce Lee couldn't have met a love interest at school, he went to a boys' school not a co-ed one...' :P
7:06- One of my favorite parts of the movie. Not even the fight itself. It's how happy the number 1 fighter in Foshan was, that he got PERMISSION from his wife to fight.

I love so much the change between "sparring" and "fighting" in this movie.
Love your channel. It brings alot of light to my life. I love her reactions, but i LOVE his laughs. Keeping me alive
You guys surprised me with this video. Ty. This series is one of my favorites. Would love to see you guys react to the other ones. I believe there are 3 other movies and a prequel movie
The way IP rinsed though ten guys still gives me the most intense chills ever🤣 he’s such a beast it’s unreal
In real life, Yip was essentially that policeman character, though like the film he refused to teach the Japanese any martial arts.
After the Japanese left, he sided against the communists during the civil war, leading to his family leaving for Hong Kong.
he was also a huge Xenophone who refused to teach bruce Lee because he was part german. he handed off all training of Bruce to Wong Sheung Leung
@@houseofaction Bruce Lee was part English from his mother's side.
@Rudolf Hiller do you hear yourself?
love y'all reaction as always!
i love ip man! especially the 2nd one.
i highly recommend the raid 1 and 2
the raid 2 is really, really good!
again, nice reaction!
@Gerald H agreed! i wish he gets more credit that he deserves...
I don't know who asked you guys to react to this movie. But, God bless him. This movie has always had a special place in my heart.
There is a prequel called TCP Man...
Jokes aside, watch "The Raid", another great action foreign movie. Or "Elite Squad", a movie from my country (Brasil) that I love.
The Raid 1 & 2 are so goated OMG 🙏🏾🙏🏾
its been so long since ive seen the ip man movies, guess now’s my chance to rewatch them with you guys
All the Ip Man films are great, I especially love this one and the last one.
Love that you watch it in original audio and read the subtitles 👌
When I saw Rogue One, I was so mad. Get this man a Lightsaber! Donnie Yen is amazing
I don't know if someone has already mentioned this, but you guys have have the same laugh. LOL
Great Reaction video guys!
the ip man saga is some of the best kung fu movies ever made
Huge fan of these movies and loved this reaction, looking forward to the rest 👍👍
I NEVER CLICKED THIS FAST IN MY LIFE
Faster than IP mans chain punches lmao
I really like actors who actually know how to fight. They make so much difference.
That movie has so much great fight scenes
Have you seen warrior's 2?
@@ninjavigilante5311 Season 2? I've only watched season 1
@@dtrejo2176 noo there is a kung fu movie called warriors 2, it has wing chun fighting and training.
I like master Jin he has character development. Continue the Ip Man journey.
Can't believe you guys are reacting to this!!!!
i like Anthony's beard as it gets bigger it fits his face, kinda badass
is that weird, i guess a little
Now ya'll just hold on. What was that cool theme music in the beginning. That was niiiiiice!!!
To be honest, so many people didn’t know what happened in Asia during World War II shocked me. What shocked me even more was that someone tried to defend the aggressor.
There's the people who defend the aggressor and there's people who defend the people who only did their job as a soldier not as war criminal
I'm one of these two
@@thenorthstarsamurai If your home country is being invaded.Your family was killed or raped by the aggressor. If your property is plundered, will you still defend the aggressor?
@@thenorthstarsamurai Hope you can continue to defend your family's murderers
@@bani7766 That's not the point but the other side of my family did suffer almost the same fate my grandfather's sister got killed by the Japanese because she was married to a rebel and you probably know what happened then, but the point i'm making is i'm not defending the nation as a whole i'm just trying to tell you that I defend the "right" people. People that actually deserve praise or atleast some sort of respect
I'm so glad you found this gem. The first 3 movies are all great
DO THE SEQUELS TO THIS PLSSSSSSSSSS PLSSSSSSSSS I BEG UUUUUUUU
Ip Man was Bruce Lee martial art instructor in Win Chu when he was young. Bruce Lee used to get into fights with gang members in Hong Kong, that is why his parents sent him to America because Bruce Lee was born in the United States.
Thanks for reacting to these Hong Kong movies. Love to see you reactions
Enjoyed watching this with y'all first video to. Gotta check out 2 and 3 as well.
Hell Yeah!!!!! That’s a wonderful choice. Keep going and you’ll definitely enjoy his movies. Great Pick!!! 👍
Ong Bak! It's awesome! Loved your reaction!
I love the IP Man series. Never even knew it was even on your radar.
I really enjoy watching the reaction coming from you guys hah. I was so surprised how good this movie was back then, especially since its past the golden era of HK movies.
im really love you react to the important part like this . LOVE IT 😅
Donnie Yen is a true living legend, this man invested his whole life in learning so many martial arts to level of mastery that Im not sure I have ever heard for someone else that have that level dedication in a lifetime. Watch also ''Fearless'' with Jet Li
i was surprised you watch it in original with subs it was interesting please watch rest of the movies .... great reaction
This is awesome!!!!! I didn't know you both haven't watch this movie!! Regardless, I enjoyed the reaction! 🙏🏽🙌💪
this movie never gets old to watch ive watched several times never get tired of watching.
A Great Movie Reaction Video!👏
"It's not about styles... it's about You ‼️"
The difference between teaching someone a LESSON and beating a BODY down.
In the movie where Donnie Yen practices 😅 with Ip Chun ... The medicine store"manager'.
Can’t wait to see your reactions for Ip Man 2
Really great reviews. Cause u guys keep showing the movies more than talking like others youtubers. Keep doin it! And pls watch ipman 2, 3 & 4(the last one). Im waiting yr reviews!!!♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️
Great reaction. Please continue this series 2 to 4!!!
When Ip Man was sparring with Master Jin, the translation of when his son came out is slightly incorrect. He actually says "Papa, Mommy says if you don't START fighting everything in the home will be broken".
19:49 - lol I like how you guys reacted in the exact same way the theatre did in Hong Kong 😂 theatre got way too lit near the end, an attendant had to come in and tell everyone to sit down
jet li's "fearless" is also a great historical chinese martial arts film.
Nice !! So it is fixed for enjoying 3 more IP Man reactions for us to enjoy
What a pleasant surprise, thanks!
Another thing that made the IP Man films special is that they are actually using Wing Chun Style Kung-Fu, not the universal standard Wushu Choreography that is used in most (if not all) other Martial Arts films. That and also Ip's Son, Ip Chun, personally trained Donnie.
Ip man is a great movie such a humble man not many can go from wealthy to poor and still be sane
Cool you're dad learned From IP man
@@latoyawinston1007 Ip Man's disciple Leung Seung mostly did the actual teaching - Ip Man was older by that time and wasn't there in person to teach children's classes a lot of the time - but in name yes, he was Ip Man's student. He loved telling my sifu that (Sifu learned from Ip Man's student's student, making my dad his 'great uncle' in martial arts hierachy) and watching him have a fanboy freakout XD
When we watched 'Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story' my dad spent most of it doing running commentary: 'Ip Man's building didn't look anything like that...
One of my favourite collection of films
You talked about martial movies in the US and in Asia. Jackie said a few times in interviews that in the US, the concentrate more on the fight, but over there, they concentrate more on the moves and style.
Arguably the greatest modern martial arts film of all time and that's saying a lot. Hope you guys watch more foreign films in future. Love your guys reactions, keep it up!
Definitely gotta do ipman 2 next !!
I did not expect this but I’m here for it😈😈
You guys just did one of my all time favorite movie series!!. And so glad you guys really enjoyed it :) Please continue with Ip Man 2, 3 , and 4. Of all the ones with Donnie Yen as Ip Man basically :) All have good choreography for sure.
This is such a great movie. Great story, characters, and top notch choreography. I love this movie and didn't expect it. I'm so glad you did! I'd also recommend 'Kung Fu Hustle'. It's a more comedic take of a kung fu style move and I absolutely adore it.
that round spinning kick are great
This is a great movie, glad to see u guys enjoying it
I went and visited my brother in his dorm at mtsu and stay up all night watching ip man series
They’re really good
Donnie’s best work imo
Thank You so much for reacting to Donnie Yen he’s so good at Wing Chung and he’s an absolute astonishing actor
If I'm not mistaken, at 17:47, when Li yells "I'm a Chinese man!", he says it in Japanese. Talk about irony.
Excellent reaction!!
