replaced my a5000 with an a6000 when I thought I water damaged my a5000. The a5000 was great for years, the form factor is so compact and small compared to the a6000. The controls and handling of the a6000 is superior for me is what I found off the bat. The photo quality difference isn't that big in side to side comparison with the same lens(sigma 30 1.4)
I picked an a5000 for $100 with a broken lens last week on marketplace, then another person put another sony camera (NEX F3) with two e-mount lenses (18-55 and selp1650) for $100 on marketplace too. I'll buy that second camera tomorrow! This is my first mirrorless camera, thank you so much for uploading these videos, these helped me a lot to decide if the camera is still worth it (now let's find out if those lenses work hahaha)
Something else that should be noted. a6000 is much faster and more accurate with regard to auto focus. The phase detect auto focus alone is worth the additional cost. I bought both back in 2014 and 2015 and was amazed at how much better the a6000 is. Still use both today, but only use the a5000 when I want something that fits in a jacket pocket.
Thanks!! Just picked up an a6000 body for £150 on eBay to upgrade from my a5000 so it's good to see the comparison. Admittedly got the a6000 believing it had 4k video and was disappointed, a great deal nonetheless and if I wanted to I could sell it and my a5000 and get the money for the a6100 (at the very least).
I shoot with a5100's. Might try to get a a6400 if can find one that fits my budget. I like the a5100. Got them for avg of $250. I like their 1080p .. won't retire or sell them.
@@mrlaqram7129 Yes, light weight and good autofocus. Take a look at some of my Saigon videos on channel lot of street footage. I have 2 lens I like for street -- Viltrox 23mm f1.4 and Sony 18-10tmm f4 Zoom.
This video has been super useful and it convinced me to go for the a6000. I currently live in Indonesia and i’ve been looking to get one. I found a great deal for around $250 including lens. It has SC of 39k and the screen has slightly a vignette. Do you think it’s worth it? Also i could go for the a5100 which is slightly cheaper. I’m actually very new to photography and your content is super useful. I wish you all the best of luck
Incredible video, but I'm curiouus, where have you find them at that price? I was searching on Backmarket and the A6000 is like 900€ with 2 objectives, and the 5000 is 400€ it's the double! Thanks you
If I'm only focusing on still shooting, no action shots, would it make a difference, in your opionion? I'm an artist who shot on 35mm for years, then would take photos for inspiration. It got costly that way though. I also still have a bunch of lenses from my vintage cameras...could those work on a Sony? They fit my Minolta.
It wouldn't make a massive difference, but you don't get a viewfinder in the a5000 - and YES definitely use your old lenses on the mirrorless :) it's a lot of fun and the results are great! K&F concept makes great sony to vintage lens adapters!
Im thinking of picking one of these up for streaming purpose. Would there be any huge difference in that aspect when it comes to just static recording? One thing i do want tho is that it should give me a nice focus on me and blur the background but if its not noticable to the eye then im thinking a5000 for better value?
hi I have watched till the end but still can't make my mind on whether I should go with a6000 or getting an action cam like insta 360, I want to film and take videos but also want to shot some photos, but as a beginner I also think a5000 is a very great to start this hobby
@@MattyDCCollinsbro yesterday my online friend gave me his old nikon d3000 camera, he told me I don't need to buy things and should figure out how to capture first, the lcd was vignette but everything was okay, I would love to review the camera soon :D I will let you know when the video is up
Hey there. I am looking for a camera to take pictures with, I am not planning on shooting any videos. Would the A5000 be the preferred camera to buy? I plan on taking pictures of Train railways, food, drinks and etc. I am thinking of buying the A5000 because it is significantly cheaper and I don't want to spend too much money on a camera, as I am 17 and money doesn't exactly just flow into my bank account
Hi! I'm looking for my first camera, I'll use it mainly for basic photo and shooting video, does the a5000 overheats fast when recording video? Thank you!

The a5000 is trash. Its a nex3 upgrade that's worse than the Nex5r/5T. Its contrast detect only and only 25 zones at that, it was outdated in 2014. The LCD is worse than the 5R/5T, it can only do 4fps continuous v.s. 10 on the older 5R/T, can't be used as a webcam, doesn't support faster UHS cards, etc. etc. Its only saving grace is the 20mp which, compared to 16 on the 5R/T only matters if you are making prints larger than A1 size. The A5000 was a budget camera with dated features in 2014 and is now a bad camera. The a5100 now is a different beast. It has the same processor and sensor as the a6000 in a tiny ass body. Aside from loosing some physical controls and having its continuous shooting capped at 6 rather than 10, the a5100 is basically the a6000 in a Nex 3 body. My advice would be either spend $50-100 more and get the a5100 or save some money and get the Nex 5r/5T (they are the same besides the 5T having GPS whilst the 5R doesn't). Either way you get a better camera than the A5000. If you can tolerate the slightly larger body the a6000 would be even better. IMHO the ideal budget starter camera is the a6500. Its $150-250 more than the A5000 but it is the cheapest Sony body with in camera stablisation - this lets you shoot with much slower shutter speeds without having to resort to a tripod and that is going to let you do so much more and play around with exposure more freely - which is kinda essential for a beginner.

Great lens you got for it too!
This was super helpful as someone who is just getting into this as a hobby, thanks buddy !!
Thanks for the comment Brayden! It goes a long way in helping the channel 👊
Whoever edited the video put a lot of effort into it, well done!
I did! Thank you, it's nice to hear that over time I'm getting better haha

Dude so sic! Congrats on the bargain. Stoked for you to get going with your first mirrorless!
I gotta say the compactness of both is intriguing, for sure in the a5000. Like for hikes in the spring/summer?!
Yeah so true actually with kit lens it could fit in your bag/purse/ glove box so easy!

liat shutter count dmn bg?
shutter count is fine at 39k it's a great deal if you want a viewfinder the a5100 isn't as good but other than that they are very similar
i wish i could find some in these price ranges
Keep looking on used markets near you :)
I have seen much better prices in shops and in local listings versus online based retailers. Still some of the pricing I have seen is wild online
Just found an a5000 with kit lens and warranty for €200. But some ask double that!
Ive gotta say though that in your vid the a5000 for me definitely looked much cleaner and more "Crisp"
must have been on that day haha
Thx for the comparisons
of course my man!

Both the cameras are good quality
I think so too!

first one 5000 second one 6000
@@MattyDCCollins damn lol
i just got a a5000 and all i see when i go to take a picture is a blurry screen, is that because i need a lens in order to shoot?
You should have a lens on it but check your shutter speed is not too low
Remove the “screen protector “.
which lenses to buy for a5000?
If you just want one get the Sigma 18-50 2.8 - if you want a few look at the Sigma primes :)
I’m broke is the a3000 worth getting?
I like the a5000 cause it has the e mount so id say start there :) save up a little extra if you’re looking at an A mount

Its the ECM-GZ1M made by Sony! Fist right in the hot shoe :)
