On a side note, i also would like to say that your photography examples shown are lovely, and i appreciate you sounding clear and taking pauses (helps me as english ain't my first).
One of the best thing about this camera : CHEAP. Combined with its size, that's the only camera I can throw in a pocket and use everywhere, without thinking about "Oh ! I need a case to protect it". That's why it's the camera I use the most, even if I got better ones, because I'm not worried about using it.
I absolutely love my Sony a5000, my first camera and still using it... With my smaller lenses, it's pocketable, and with my other lenses, not so small or not larger lenses, it can get some great photos and videos like that as well. It's a fun little camera, easy to use, and can be used with just your phone for editing with Jpeg and MP4 mode... The quality you can get is absolutely incredible for just how easy it is to use and have.
I absolutely agree. First camera I actually got lenses for, and got it as an entry into emount. It's missing some things I'd like but I'll still continue using it until it breaks!
Thank you for video. I got a5000 as replacement (the only one i had in nearby shop during travel, so i didnt have much choice) after nex 5r broke, and was a bit heartbroken as there were many things 5r was better, also didnt help to read all those criticizing posts about a5000. However, i was not in a situation to change it for different thing, so i just kept it. After many years, it makes me happy that there are people that use it and find it good enough, really inspires me to give it a second chance.
I had this camera sitting in my drawer for ages, but just got myself an adapter to my vintage Minolta lenses and I’m so excited to give it a second shot!
I still use a5000 for my photography. Just night time photography is hard with it and lack of viewfinder also sucks. I never use autofocus, always manual so currently using 50mm Meike f1.7 lens and makes my photography look great. Macro with this is by far the best, at least for me.
That's been my experience. Even just heavily wooded areas can be a struggle without a tripod, and the more I try bird photography the more I wish I had the viewfinder.
i just found mine for €7.50, only needs a new battery, and i might need a lens since this ones (sony 16-50) reportedly has a lens error but nothing i might fix or i might just get a newyo manual 35mm f1.6 for only €21 euro new on ebay......
I shoot it up to 6400 and even higher since is really easy to denoise. Video i wouldn't go so high. 1600 looks good enough. 3200 is okay. Only thing is bugging me is that it turns of without warning if it overheat. Protips: Buy good memory card, otherwise this camera would be very slow and frustrating to use. I use U3 and U1 cards that works good. And don't shoot in 1080i. It overheats and image quality is worse.
I can't seem to keep any fine details like bird feathers past iso 1600. Same with video. I generally stick to 1080p24 as well. Though I don't usually have issues with overheating, as I generally shoot short clips and it's cold where I live. Good points though!
Excelent video. I just bought this camera for $200 with charger, the 15-50mm kit lens, and a very compact camera bag perfect for this camera body. I also have the a6000 and the grip on the a5000 feels just so much better. The lack of EVF and dials isbsurely felt, but at the same time the compactness and the comfortable ergonomics just motivates me to grab this camera and go take pictures. I can't say the same about the a6000 despite being a superior camera in every way. Simply perfect for street photography.
Thank you! I actually don't have a dedicated macro lens.. yet.. for now I've been using Meike Macro extension tubes (link in description) with either the kit lens or my neewer 32mm F1.6.
Focus magnifier won't work automatically with vintage or all manual lenses, so I set custom button in the menu for focus magnifier that is easy for me to press quick to zoom in. Hope this helps!
I need to know how you are actually pulling decent focus on this little screen with no viewfinder. I can never tell if an image is in focus or not until I get it back to the Mac
many, MANY deleted images and videos from being just slightly out of focus since it looks good on the lcd. I kinda got used to the focus peaking and its quirks which helps a bit, but I'd really like a viewfinder on my next camera especially shooting birds handheld.
Mine is also just over 27k as of last week. Sony's official numbers for their a6000 series is ~200,000 so I'd assume similar for the a5000. Of course this would depend on other factors as well. I'm sure portrait or something would give a longer shutter life than me taking it into the woods.
@@freeshrimp I'm thinking of replacing mine with a brand new a6000. But I feel like I haven't fully explore the a5000 until its max potential. I didn't know that you can quick zoom (or whatever it is called) on a5000, I thought that thing only works at A7 line up! That feature would come handy for manual lens user like me!
@@kusuka_skate I'll be keeping my a5000 for a while still, even if I upgrade. Though I'd like an evf for example, as even with the focus assist, it's still tricky on the small low res screen. But more my uses at the current time it works fine!
Thanks for all your comments and compliments! I know the a5000 has its flaws, but I always try to make the most of what I have! I'd eventually like something like the Sony 20mm f2.8 since it's such a small lens, I think it'd be a great fit on this body to carry around. That would suit it more than the big telephoto primes haha
I think this could make a great backup camera! However, I don't shoot weddings or even portraits, but if I had to give a recommendation, I personally like the 50-85 focal length so either a fast prime like the Sony 50 f1.8, or a versatile zoom like a Sigma 24-70 Art lens. Hope this helps!
Still a bad ass camera. For this type of price point. 20mp should be enough for most people. Most people only shop basically because they see a bigger megapixels on a camera or phone anyway. These people are usually "marketed to stupid". 16mp is good for most average basic ass phone photographers or point and shoot. I remember when 8.1 MP was a big deal.
Personally I think a bit more resolution would be nice, but that's just for if I want to heavily crop bird photos, when I can just try and get closer. My phone is 40mp and is good, but only outputs 10mp binned images and still more than enough. Bigger numbers *must* be better though, right? Haha
the Sony a6000 is better for video and photo than an a5xxx series as it has more body features and the Sony a5000 although not super powerful, is very easy to use and gets nice quality photos and video and is pocketable with the right lenses.
On a side note, i also would like to say that your photography examples shown are lovely, and i appreciate you sounding clear and taking pauses (helps me as english ain't my first).

Great point. Bringing mine for wildlife, I don't worry as much about it getting banged off things.

Adapting lenses is still my main use for it, using Minolta mount 400mm with vintage teleconverters almost every day!

Exactly the reason I got one myself!

I love this camera
I might buy this. Seen it on Facebook for 100 bucks. ...Can't decide. Only want it for taking small product pics in my workshop.
Overall I really like mine. That's a better deal than what I got, also from Facebook. A cheap fast lens can help a bunch too.
Hi, may I ask what macro lens do you use with this camera? Thanks! Great photo examples by the way, lovely shots!

Just find out small touch from youtube while watching this video. Check out what happens with the like button at 4:08

Enjoy using micro 4/3rd cameras, I think they are fun and still useful still !
I agree! While of course I'd like the full frame look, crop cameras definitely have their uses and I prefer them for wildlife and birds
Sony A5000 the best! I still use it for my videos on my channel.. have a visit and leave some advices.. 😊
