I see 34 thumbs down! Who are these people?? Amazing. I can't imagine what they might not like about this quilt or your presentation. I love your videos, your style and everything about how you teach! And what a great smile!
The only good thing about the thumbs down is that it counted as a response with the same value of a thumbs up response. Both bump up the algorithm for this channel. So just smile and know that sometimes a negative answer counts as a benefit.😊
@@judithburke1539 Well, that IS good. And oddly, there are no thumbs down on this video today. 10,000 thumbs up though, awesome. I don't want this channel to go away, she's great.
Two years later I’m watching this video and seeing your comment. It’s a good thing that TH-cam no longer gives a count of “thumbs down”ers. My theory is those users had this video pop up on their ‘Recommended for you’ list of videos, and they really are only responding to the algorithm rather than the video maker or the video itself. Now in April 2024 Karen has more than 400,000 subscribers, so I think she’s safe, her channel won’t “go away” (thank goodness!) 😊
Oh my goodness, I just love this pattern. I have enough fabric to make customized jelly rolls for a lifetime. Holiday themes, fabric collection themes, my mind just keeps thinking. Aboriginal, patriotic, flannel, floral, striped, Kaffe, etc etc. What a wonderful way to use all that fabric you've collected over the years to customize quick and easy quilts. This is going to be my new go-to quickie quilt. It's like large french braid blocks that you piece together. Easy and fun. Thanks so much for a great pattern. ️ ❤️
🙆♀️ UPDATE: Pattern now updated to show directions for 40" jelly rolls and baby sized quilts. It's been a pretty busy week. Luckily there are Stashbusters to make life a bit easier. I can't believe how much I like this quilt. It was an old jelly roll that I was avoiding but now it's has become an immediate family favourite. I hope you try this one. Enjoy
Hope you'll see this comment, I'm confused about the 40" strips variation. In your pattern is says you'll need 38 strips, so 19 pairs, but you only cut pairs 1-18. What do you do with no. 19? Or should it read 36 strips?
That’s a really arresting statement quilt! I love how not very complicated it is to make. Thanks for the free pattern and fantastic tutorial Karen!!! ❤
This is the perfect pattern, especially if you work because once you get the colors done the cutting is easy and the sewing is even easier. I can come home after work and sew a few, so I fill my bucket and relax because it's stress free and fun. It's so fun to see the finished quilt. I would love more patterns like this. Thank you, Thank you. Oh and I have made it twice so far and have another one I am getting ready to start.
Have you had any issues with the blanket bunching or stretching once all pieces are put together?? I’m having trouble. It’s pieces but the long sides are longer than the blanket itself and bunching badly. I don’t know how to fix it

Question: I’ve opened my jelly roll and separated the strips into two piles. This jelly roll has a few duplicates- will that matter? I’m thinking it won’t but wanted your thoughts. Thanks Karen! Can’t wait to start cutting and sewing!
I still consider myself as a rookie. I need a quilt in three days for my Daughter's Birthday. I think this will make her happy. Thank you for this pattern. There is a possibility I may up-load a picture of the quilt, if I do it right. LOL.
One of the reasons I love your channel is that you always present a variety of ways to do something, even as simple as numbering your blocks: stickers, numbered pins, write numbers on your pins, or just pin paper to it. There is no wrong way and no absolute right way, it all goes towards the same goal. Thank you!
I’ve been binge watching your videos. You are my kind of gal! I’m complied to figure out an alternative method for organizing rather than simply spend too much money on a solution- must be that Depression-Era Scottish Immigrant Father and his lessons. I’m in desperate need of a sewing room gut and reorganization and I’m inspired by your ideas. I have spent most of my quilting years making quilts for others but the past few years I’m finally making quilts for me. I’m good at constructing the tops, but the large size is difficult to machine quilt on even my large Bernina with neck issue, now to practice with the new Long Arm to gain the level of skill for these quilts. I look forward to watching more of your videos as they brighten the days of this Pandemic. Keep Well, Keep Safe.
I have been stash-busting all month. I am currently on Quilt Top #5, all basic quilts. So far I have made the Rail Quilt, Jelly Roll Race, Jelly Roll Twist and Jelly Roll Slice. I am now making the Disappearing Nine-Patch. I was running out of ideas for quick quilts. This will be my next one with all the remnants from the previous ones! Next week I will start on the backs & bindings. Thank you for the inspiration.
This is such a beautiful design. No on would think it is a stash buster quilt. I have a grunge jelly roll somewhere that I didn’t know what to do with it. Now I do. I could leave it square and it could be a fantastic picnic quilt. I could just pick my favorite grunge color for the back. Thanks a bunch!
Another great video Karen. Your quilt is visually stunning. One to keep in mind to make. It’s 9.15am Friday here in Sydney, Australia. Looks overcast so a great day to sew 🧵. Free motion quilting the borders on my Underground Railway quilt today. Keep well Karen 🪴
I have a bad habit of buying jelly rolls because they are pretty with no (real) plans to use them....but THIS....this is the quilt that some of them are going to be used in! Thank you!!
This video is EXCELLENT!!! It truly is a scrap buster quilt. I have lots of 2-1/2” strips after trimming my quilted sandwiches. You do such a great job giving instructions, but when the numbers started to muddle my brain, your moving graphics made it completely clear. I will make one and be sure to tag you on Instagram. THANK YOU!!!
Thank you, I will definitely take your advise. This jelly roll is called Rainbow Floral, it goes from blue, green, lavender, yellow, lime green, pink, red and orange. I may run into trouble cause some colors like the lime green and lavender look to have 3 strips. I’ll see when I open it and roll all of it out. I think this will turn out beautifully!
Hey Karen, This quilts is just what I was looking for. It's my son's birthday today and I am going to make this quilt for him. Thank you so much Karen.
I bought a walking foot for my Bernina and I’m thrilled with it. I was commenting to a friend that I wanted to buy some new more modern fabric. I promised myself I would finish the PHD’s and use what I have. Thanks for the stash busters you share. New fabric might be coming sooner than I think. I’ve downsized and don’t have the large sewing room I used to enjoy so I don’t buy anything I don’t have room for.
This beautiful quilt reminds me of a super-sized log cabin block. Thank you for your clear, engaging, instructive videos that help us gain confidence in our own sewing mojo. You rock! -Sally from MO
I love this quilt. It will be on my ten mile long bucket list. Do you think they have sewing machines in heaven? My next project is to make a quilt coat from scratch from a pattern. Hopefully I survive..
These stash buster quilts are some of my favorites. I would probably never have picked this jellyroll/colors but I love how it turned out. I need to be more adventurous in my fabric choices. Thanks for this!
Hey Karen! I just got my stash buster jelly roll mostly done! It took me three days, but I have other things I have to do, so I sewed in between. It was easy enough and fun. My next one I have promised myself I will label the lights and darks, because I got confused along the way...oh well, it's still pretty! I just need to do the borders and back, then make a sandwich and quilt!
You are my go-to quilt guru! Thanks for these videos. I am just getting back into quilting this year. My husband found a flimsy I had made over 20 years ago hanging in the closet and insisted that I buy a decent machine to quilt it. Loving my re-found habit AND your channel.
I happened upon your video in a google search. Just what we needed! Made the top of this quilt today with my MIL. Thanks so much. Easy to follow instructions printed out and being able to watch the video back again was so helpful!

Karen - I love this quilt pattern and will definitely give it a try. Question - how did you sew a border on when the edges were not straight? Thank you.
