I love my Panasonic cordless Irons. Both of them.
From now on, I will call a difficult project, my squirrel! Makes sense! Thanks for always being "real."
LOL 🤗
This is an impressive accomplishment!👏 I can see why you felt overwhelmed. The result is stunning. Congratulations!!
Thank you so much!
Even with a kit, it's still an art quilt. And people think art is just easy. I liked your process and completely relate to putting it aside. I do that when I adapt a pattern, my "great ideas" don't always work. But when I come back, I can often see it with new eyes and power through. Thanks for being an inspiration!
🤗🤗🤗
I love your felt right wall. I have one and really love it. I put mine on the closet slider. Love your squirrel!
1 million thanks I have a raw edge project and this was fantastic instructions. My PANASONIC cordless favorite forever iron, I never will go back!
Lesson I recently learned: before I put a project away, I make a note to myself of what's next. Examples: press before cutting; need fabric for piece A of pattern; ready to sew; continue with step 6, etc. It has made all the difference for me when picking projects back up and getting them done (or at least making progress, then updating my note!! Also, I date the note.
What a great video. I learned that these hard projects take a LOT of determination to finish. Your squirrel is adorable and I hope it delights you forever! But also remind you how awesome you are to finish hard things!
🤗🤗🤗
Wow Karen its so beautiful and you have made a great project even after all those years x thank you for sharing your journey with us x
Thank you for always showing us the quilt journey! Sometimes it's a long one, but usually worth it in the end. You are inspiring and give confidence to many Quilters new and experienced. ❤
Thank you. I’m glad your like to come along with me
Good finish Karen! I did take a class to learn the technique and discovered it’s not for me. That was a big pattern to figure out on your own and I’m so impressed that you stuck with it. ❤
I definitely should have started with something smaller
That's a very nice piece of work. It's also in the category Rather You Than Me. Hope you've gone out for a meal, cracked open a bottle of fizz or otherwise rewarded yourself for that mammoth task.
What a wonderful accomplishment! I laughed out loud to myself when you said you decided to leave the fabric and research the colour of squirrels. I too can’t get so easily distracted!
🤪
Wow! I love it, and so glad you have this accomplished. Feels so good!
Such a great video - im v new to quilting and its so helpful to see everyone can struggle - but to keep going. I especially loved the time you spent looking at squirrels😂
The finished quilt top looks amazing ❤
🤪🤪🤪
Well done! It's lovely!
"Squirrel" is fabulous! Thanks for the inspiration to get going on a UFO that is haunting me! Thanks, Karen, always enjoy visiting with you!
So glad you finally finished it! She is beautiful 😍
I can only say WOW!!! Definitely something to be proud of - great job!!
Thank you! 😊
Ha! I finally have cut out and started to sew a quilt I was going to make for my son 20 years ago. I could not believe how long it has taken me to start it.. Love you videos! That squirrel is adorable..
This looks like quilting meets mosaics and looks WONDERFULL, waiting with baited breath to see it quilted and mounted. A real work of art ❤
❤ wow! An art quilt depicting my mother has been on my to do list for years. I’ve even bought everything I thought I would need, worked on transferring the image to parchment, and collected way more fabric than I could possibly need and it is just overwhelming. I think I’ve put it away at least four times now. So I have so much respect for your finished quilt!
I think that I need to cry uncle and start on a small, very simple item first and work my way up to this level of difficulty (I know…common sense, right?!! 😂
Or work on a less important part of the picture first. It's a lot to load in your brain at once. As you saw, it took several tries for me.
You are an artist! It's painting with fabric and you shure can be proud of you to finished the UFO with this outstanding result 🎉
Very nice and I'm glad you finished it. I know it was an amazing amount of work and effort. Please show us after you've mounted and/or quilted it.
Wow! I’ve done a little bit of collage quilting, but nothing to this extent. Very inspiring! And I love your color selections.
I must give credit to Laura Heine as I closely followed her work
I love your squirrel, Hazel has motion even though she stands still. 🌺
It is amazing! So adorable. What a wonderful accomplishment! I will probably watch this again a couple times because I feel, well, like I am a squirrel! Thank you for sharing!
I give you lots of credit Karen. I would never would have attempted this type of quilt. I am sure you are so glad it is done (except for the finishing).
However, you have given me inspiration to finally finish a gold, green and brown corduroy quilt I started right after high school in 1973 (typical 1970's colors). It has been stored all this time. A little dusty but not moldy or mildewed or chewed by rodents. This was before I knew anything about quilting. I had started to tie it with gold yarn, but did not get very far. I have removed the sheet back as it did get a few holes in it from pins left in (and it was a bright lime green). As well as the lumpy poly filling. I will find something more suitable for the backing and use a thin cotton batting. Will post pictures when it is done.
What a great project to have finished! You’ve come a very long way, both in quilting and on TH-cam. Thank you for giving us so much great information in such a real and entertaining way! ❤
It's been a great ride! Thank you
Wow! I can’t express how much I love this. Your perseverance is astonishing. I could never hang in there for so many attempts over years. But that’s why you have a TH-cam channel and I don’t! 😂 Thanks for sharing. I love Hazelnut!
Congratulations! It is stunning!
I love it! I bailed on my collage quilt and used the fabric for a large sewing portfolio for classes.
Love the iron. So much better than Oliso.
Amazing work! Great job!
Wow. Your squirrel is amazing. I love it. You inspired me and many others to finish something you love. I have an applique 40" x 40" Table topper. Need to finish a flower applique. I have removed it from the UFO pile. There is little to do on the applique. Then make the sandwich, quilt it and it will be done. Thank you so much.
Absolutely stunning, Karen! 🥰
I love my cordless Panasonic cordless iron too!
It makes ironing so much easier!
Man that's impressive! I love the presence Madam Squirrel has. I also really appreciate the honesty about your process.
Love my Panasonic cordless iron! I get so discombobulated when I go to sew days where they supply large, corded irons. Others have asked me if it cools off too soon, but it heats so quickly on the base, it is never an issue. Love the dual points and ambidextrous design.
people think that it's rechargable...as long as it gets on the base once every couple of minutes, I have not had any problems...unless I forget to turn it on 🤪
Extremely inspiring to tackle all my UFOs thank you so much . Love all the way from Kuwait ❤
So glad you found it inspiring!
Job well Done! I’ve done a couple of Laura’s kits and one i designed myself. I loved doing them. Much like putting a jigsaw puzzle together.
This turned out amazing! How great you must feel over your accomplishment!
Thanks so much, it felt wonderful to finally finish it!
Love this quilt.❤ I have always wanted to do one. Now that I see the process i think I'll leave this type of quilt to someone else. thank you for sharing ❤ its beautiful
Thank you
He’s so adorable! I did her tomato about 18 months ago in a class and loved it. My next project of hers is the rooster. Thank you also for sharing the cordless iron with us! ❤
My oldest UFO is 11 years old. 8 grandsons later you have inspired me to finish my appliqued quilt. Thank you . Thank you.
Squirrel is adorable ❤
It's never too late to finish a project!
Stunning!! I’m happy for you, way to get it off your to-do list. 😘
It is fabulous! Such a big job. Congratulations 🎉🎉🎉
Congrats! Mine took a few years as well but once I got in the groove it was fun! I did find quilting through all that fusible was tricky on the longarm so I ran it on my domestic machine - did a crosshatch and turned out great!
Great job! Thank you for sharing all the starts and stops. Gives me hope to get working on my UFOs!
It is so satisfying to see something finished.
Thank you for sharing your real life struggles with UFO’s and new techniques that are uncomfortable. I think most of us quilters feel we are alone in this area. But knowing that you aren’t really helps us move our own UFO’s forward. I love Hazel NUTT, and would never do one on my own. BUT that said, we all have our preferences. I did a collage of my 4 poodles (over the years) and it took me a whole year to do them. I don’t feel so bad now. ❤
It's amazing you were able to complete your 4 poodles collage!
Bravo! I wouldn't have the courage for this! 🤩
Congratulations. That is something I never would have even attempted, so I'm impressed that you tackled that project no matter how many years went by. Great job!!!
This is absolutely beautiful, well done you!❤ the dedication and commitment really is worth it and something to be proud of. Thank you for sharing. I sometimes feel bad for my ufo’s. This gives me hope that they will be finished
Gorgeous!
I went to my local favourite Quilt Shop the other week...they had a whole TON of the Laura Heine Patterns...I had never seen them before, in my 25 years of quilting...I thought this was something new! They even had classes coming up...I thought it sure looks nice, and asked what this was...they didn't say collage quilting...they said it was applique... I ran so fast out of the store, before they had a chance to convince me otherwise! ... I think as we get more quilt years behind us, we get smarter and more realistic, as to what we want to do, what we are interested in doing... and not doing. This is one of them!
If you have the opportunity to do a small one, take the class. It might be hard but rewarding
It’s a gorgeous piece of quilted artwork!! Wow! Congratulations 🎉
😊 so glad it’s done
Wow. You’re brave and tenacious as well as so very talented. Congratulations on an outstanding creation. You are an inspiration.
🤗🤗🤗
What a wonderful feeling to finish an old project - and know you never have to do another one of those again. 😊 It came out great!
Not for a while anyways
Finishing was worth it! So gorgeous 😍
WOW!!!! It's amazing!
I love my Panasonic cordless iron. I use it at my longarm to remove heat erasable markings right on the long arm before I forward the quilt. I love instant gratification! and I don’t have to hunt them up later. 😊
Love the squirrel!😍 How amazing to finally get done! I can SO relate to falling into the spiral of researching squirrels!🤣 Love your honest videos about your process.❤
Silly me 🤪
Stunning!
WOW.. that is a huge collage project. Looks fantastic.
Congratulations with the finish! Good on You!
FANTASTIC It is a work of art. I know I would not have the patience. This is why I watch your videos. You show that everything is not a piece of cake and you are great at teaching. Thanks
Thank you for the kind words!
Congratulations! Awesome work!
In my opinion, I would use variegated thread when quilting it. It’s beautiful! Congratulations on persevering and completing it. I’m working on piecing an old UFO this weekend. I’ll try to persevere, too.
I hope you had success
Wow! What a wonderful accomplishment, you should be proud of all your hard work it looks absolutely great.😊
I'm a certified LH teacher Beautiful job.! Believe me it is difficult to create these larger quilts! It was a very ambitious UFO to tacket for your first. I love all your videos
Congratulations on your mamouth achievement Karen. He looks amazing and so large.
I have just finished an applique Paddington cot quilt which the fabric had stamped selvedge 2014🤣. Incentive to get it done was finding out my first grandchild is due in July♥️♥️🇦🇺
Congratulations
Wow! Talk about dedication and perseverance. It turned out to be a stunning work of art. Congratulations! My idea for quilting is to free motion spikey or curvy lines to bring his fur to life. Maybe straight line quilt the background. I also like the idea of putting it on stretcher bars or framing him. I look forward to seeing it completed.
I love the finished product 🥰 I have been sucked in sew many times. I have multiple collage quilts in the same state of “just get it done” I even went across the country and took the class. You’ve inspired me to dig one of them out and FINISH. Thanks for the inspiration 🥰
It's always a good feeling to get those UFOs finished!
i JUST LOVE YOUR QUILT!
Thank you
That’s impressive! What a chore!
Beautiful! Be sure to steam press the top before you quilt, the steam alters the glue in Steam a Seam II so it won't gum up your needle as much during quilting 😊
Your squirrel is beautiful! Congratulations for getting this far! I’m working on an old ufo from 2006. I hope to finish it before our show in late September .
Slow and steady 🤗
Beautiful,Karen! I have a project from way back that I wish to finish. Sigh…. Thanks for sharing 😊
Thank you . I'm glad you found it inspiring!
WOW!! 💗💕💗 Congratulations! You should be very proud of yourself!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
That’s a masterpiece! Fantastic work, heartiest congratulations 🎉
What a work of art!
Lovely end result. Congratulations on a quilt top done.
Wow this is amazing. Looks like a lot of work.
It really is. Not the most relaxing sewing but I loved finishing it. The hours of video footage I had to go through 🤪
So happy for you to have finished such a fiddle project.
I turned out beautiful.
You must be so happy to get it off your list.
It’s so satisfying to check something off the list!
Those collage projects take so much brain capacity and energy. I’ve completed two and I’m done. I will always admire them but know that that technique is out of my wheelhouse.
This video has helped me see my own overly ambitious projects in a more compassionate light. Your tenacity is inspiring!! Thank you for sharing your struggles, the tendency to feel alone in my indecision and frustrations can feel very isolating.
Calling a friend really helped me get over my fears and begin the long climb.
Ty and great timing! I'm just starting to teach myself about collage for quiting. I'm starting much smaller.
Smaller is a smart 😎
I would love to see how you quilted the squirrel. That is always my challenge, is the quilting.
I did a Laura Heine Sunflower project a couple of years ago. Although I love it, I found it to be a challenge. And I agree, it took up space on. my cutting table, and also head space. But I am happy with the end results.
The end result is incredible!!!! Thanks for sharing your process. I am definitely interested in seeing how you finish it.
Thx
Wow Karen, very impressive. You should be proud your squirrel looks amazing
Thanks so much!
Hazelnut is adorable! Congratulations!
Thank you 😊
Beautiful 😍
I love the Laura Heine collages. I’ve completed three and have one as a UFO. Use steam now that it’s finished to permanently set the fusible. I quilt mine on my domestic using a 1/2 inch grid to catch every piece. Can’t wait to see yours finished. I love All of your projects and videos!
Thanks! I'll keep that in mind for quilting.
Had to watch as I'm working one of my oldest projects, more than a decade old, before I actually ever started quilting. I purchased a pattern and fabric because I wanted to do this!
It's so good to get those old projects done!
Amazing! Shows us to not give up and that change can be good. Sometimes we have to walk away for awhile😉
👍 thank you
That squirrel was worth the wait Karen as it’s gorgeous. I would go with your first thought and frame it and admire it as the piece of art it is. Thank you for keeping it real and showing us the reality of doing a collage. I don’t feel so bad now as to how many years it took me to do the elephant. I think these collages should come with a warning that they create stress before you get the satisfaction!
It is definitely a labor of love!
The squirrel was worth the effort... It is absolutely gorgeous.
I would love to do something like this but taking a class to get started I think.
A wood frame sounds nice to me, to make sure no tiny bits get to fray.
WOW! Holy cow - what a lot of work. I've got too many UFO's in quilting and crochet. So glad you could check that one off. Hope you enjoy it now that it's done. Great job! Beautiful.
Happy Videoing Anniversary! Congrats on crossing Hazel Nut off your list! I’m so thankful you started your channel.
Thanks so much!
I purchased the older first iron once I saw it on your site. I absolutely love it & highly recommend it. It is a game changer. ❤❤❤❤🎉
It is so great to hear that you are loving it too! On projects like this one it saves your sanity
Wow Karen!! This was a monstrous project!! You should be rightfully proud of yourself!! 🎉🎉it looks amazing!! Congratulations on not giving up. 🎉🎉🎉
