You've just solved a riddle that's haunted me for decades. Namely, "what was that movie I saw when I was seven that had the girl being squished by the locker...and what does a rocking horse have to do with it?"
makes sense, the stuff the filmmakers in the 80s would have grown up with would have been from that time period the way horror filmmakers of now grew up with those films then
Reminds me of how Stephen King's IT was set primarily in the 50s, which the miniseries also used as a setting, then the more recent adaptation changed it to the 80s. I feels like the 80s Stranger Things to the 50s Stand By Me.
This is one of those movies where I enjoyed the sequel more than the first one. I saw this first as a kid on cable and I really loved the story. One of the best Prom Night movies for me. Absolutely love Mary Lou.
2 and 3 were good. Saw the 4th one and my God, it was so disappointing and it was such a huge generic ripoff of The Exorcist III. Not even Brad Dourif could possibly save that movie. He was too busy doing Child's Play 3 at the time.
Happy to have found Cinema Snob. As a rural European (Bavarian Alps) it's great to see (even if not in this Video) that there are Americans who actually watched some of the weird Italian Movies i grew up with and does Videos about them. Back in the Day when German Censorship was way more extreme all we could get our Hands on were those Italian Movies by them being smuggled through Austria and over the Border to Germany. I wasn't able to see Movies like "The Evil Dead" until the 2010s but was able in the 1990s to watch Cannibal Holocaust, Dellamorte Dellamore (Cemetary Man) etc. Either way, i'm happy i found this Channel! Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps
As your fellow European from a country with a history of movie censorship (Finland) I can relate! Having to watch a copy of a copy of a copy of some foreign VHS just to see stuff banned here was an interesting time.
This legit seems like a great movie. Like one of those rare sequels that has nothing to do with the original and ends up being just as good if not better. Also Michael Ironside knocking his son out with a shoe made me laugh.
Watched this in time for Dead Meats Kill Count earlier this year; watched the original Prom Night too. So glad I did because this movie is wild! Really needs a remaster.
The funny thing is, Michael Ironside was only around 36 or so when this movie was made...he was at least 10 years younger than his character was supposed to be!
Just watched this for the first time literally this weekend! Great timing!! Really loved this movie.. Nightmare on Elm Street 3&4 are my favorites of that franchise and this movie REALLY gives that vibe.
I really love this flick. A solid cast, some very creepy atmospheric moments, and genuine attempts at humor and character building. Another case where I thought a sequel bested the original.
I love how much I’ve learned from all of Brad’s arcane jokes and references over the years. It has made rewatching the older episodes more rewarding and enjoyable. Hope to have an opportunity to meet him in person someday, I’ve got a Caligula poster and a sharpie on standby. The Cure reference got me, 😂 thanks for all the laughs and the great review.
Had never seen this movie. However, saw you had a review coming up of this so took the time to watch it last night just so I could appreciate your review more today! Such a great episode man!!
Prom Night 2's box art is one of those among movies like C.H.U.D that has burned into my brain from my childhood. Now we need The Cinema Snob review of Frogs and The Garbage Pail Kids and the circle is complete!
16:38 The pimp hand is strong with Wendy Lyon! What a wonderfully bonkers film! The mixing of genres, taboo subject matter, over the top violence... Did Bruno Mattei secretly direct this film?
For a while, I had this and the third Urban Legends film mixed up in my head. Took me a while to realize why. There are some similar elements in the premise.
I think this was the first "Prom Night" movie I saw, I think, I was kid so I probably only saw bits of it on TV. In all honesty, despite this only being called "Prom Night 2" for marque value, it does kind of work as a sequel with its loose connections. Will probably give this movie a full watch to get an actual opinion on it. Also of note, both Wendy Lyon and Terri Hawkes would work together again on the first English dub of "Sailor Moon". Hawkes would take over for Tracy Moore for the rest of Season 1 and all of season 2, as well as the first dubs of the movies, while Lyon would play Queen Serenity. But I'm sure that other commenters pointed that out.
I knew I recognized Wendy Lyon. She played Prissy Andrews in the Anne of Green Gables miniseries. Weirdly enough she was getting hit on by the teacher in that too.
The priest in the confession booth looks like Richard Donat. I guess he got tired of listening to hussies and decided to start a secret society in Nova Scotia to fight "the troubles."
I seem to recall seeing the box for this movie at video rental stores as a kid. And not Hollywood video or Blockbuster, the locally-owned, non-chain shops. 1:38 Beethoven's WHAT?! How many sequels did they make?! 1:48 Any relation to Werner? 5:29 They didn't have a fire hose in or near the gym? Carrie's school did. 14:35 OOF, that one made me groan. 14:54 "...the a crow brings that person back to life for revenge, with superpowers thrown in, and it will be AWESOME. And have a bitchin' soundtrack."
I LOVE this movie!!! It's such a perfect combination of so many other horror movies!!! "Linda Blairsville!!" The best. 😂😂 The only sequel/not a sequel that's awesome. "HEY Kelly!! How'd ya blow it!!" I need to create a shirt that says 'Pull it together' bonehead"!!
Yeah, apparently this is the only horror sequel that was an in-name-only thematic story and still ended up just fine. It's meant to be a pretty strong bleak ghost story with a surprising self-awareness and sense of humour.
@NebLleb I agree!!! The humor and self awareness works so well in this movie. It's original, but not original at the same time if that makes sense 🤣🤣. Either way, I've loved it since I was a kid.
Terri Hawkes was also the voice actor for the titular character in Sailor Moon in the 90's dub. It was astonishing to hear Sailor Moon being such a foul mouth mean girl 🤣
I really like this one, the story of Mary Lou and Vicky, and the '50s in the 80s', but my only beef with it is that Vicky is just a random girl instead of Mary Lou's niece. I would care even more if she felt bad for Mary Lou and thinks her mom is really unfair about how she talks about her (so her mom is the opposite of Mary Lou because she was determined not to be like her), then she learns the hard way how wrong she is when Mary Lou finds that she can possess her because she's open to her:)
"There's no God, Buddy! And there is no Heaven, and do you know what pissed me off the most? NO F*CKING WINGS!" This has been a favorite of mine since I was a teenager. It's a hell of a lot of fun. Also, I won't lie, Wendy Lyon is a hell of a lot sexier than Sissy Spacek.
i could have sworn the version of this movie i saw ended with mary lou tearing out his girlfriend's heart from the back seat of their car and it turning out hes stuck in hell now
Prom Night 2 is so much better than the original one that it's not even funny Also the actor playing young Billy bears a disturbing resemblance to professional wrestling personality Jim Cornette
Yeah, with me, the first and this one rank so close together, it really depends on my mood which one I like better. The other 2 and the remake, not so much. Though I don't hate the remake as much as some do, it still fails in comparison with the first two Prom Night movies. Anyways, thank you, Brad, enjoyed the video.
"I have had sinful thoughts about my boyfriend..." Which one is he? Oh, yeah, I remember when he was an altar boy. You're forgiven that one, my daughter.
Watch us a couple years ago. It’s honestly a solid movie. Although I swear it was supposed to be a softcore porn at some point, especially with the back half
The Dark Tales of Degrassi High 100% agree, and it's on my list of "The Great Squeals", and extra points for paying tribute to some great flicks, while still being its own thing. I believe that mirror effect at 13:20 can be found in Carpenter's Prince of Darkness.
You've just solved a riddle that's haunted me for decades. Namely, "what was that movie I saw when I was seven that had the girl being squished by the locker...and what does a rocking horse have to do with it?"
Horror in the late 80s-early 90s was in love with the 50s the way horror in the late 10s-early 20s is in love with the 80s.
I think this is what TV Tropes calls the Popularity Polynomial.
makes sense, the stuff the filmmakers in the 80s would have grown up with would have been from that time period the way horror filmmakers of now grew up with those films then
It happens a lot. Apparently people in the 19th century saw things as more chivalrous and romantic in the Middle Ages.
Reminds me of how Stephen King's IT was set primarily in the 50s, which the miniseries also used as a setting, then the more recent adaptation changed it to the 80s. I feels like the 80s Stranger Things to the 50s Stand By Me.
@@Quinntus79You got it there. “Ivanhoe” was a very popular book in the South around the time of the American Civil War.
I unapologetically love this movie!
Same here.
As well you should.
The actor who played a younger Michael Ironside also played a younger version of Michael Ironside in the 1989 movie "Mindfield".
are they related?
This is one of those movies where I enjoyed the sequel more than the first one. I saw this first as a kid on cable and I really loved the story. One of the best Prom Night movies for me. Absolutely love Mary Lou.
2 and 3 were good. Saw the 4th one and my God, it was so disappointing and it was such a huge generic ripoff of The Exorcist III. Not even Brad Dourif could possibly save that movie. He was too busy doing Child's Play 3 at the time.
I actually met Lisa Schrage at a con here recently and she was absolutely lovely to talk with.
Happy to have found Cinema Snob. As a rural European (Bavarian Alps) it's great to see (even if not in this Video) that there are Americans who actually watched some of the weird Italian Movies i grew up with and does Videos about them.

Producer, Ron Oliver, went on to work on a lot of Goosebumps episodes in the 90s.
So THAT'S why this movie feels like an an R rated goosebumps episode at times 😂
This is one movie I was creeped out by..but still watched everytime I could
This legit seems like a great movie. Like one of those rare sequels that has nothing to do with the original and ends up being just as good if not better. Also Michael Ironside knocking his son out with a shoe made me laugh.
I like the original movie but to be honest I think this one is indeed better.
funny to know that the Original voice actor for the Anime "sailor moon" Terri Hawkes (Kelly Hennenlotter ) was in this film
Canadian Sailor Moon
Watched this in time for Dead Meats Kill Count earlier this year; watched the original Prom Night too. So glad I did because this movie is wild! Really needs a remaster.
I have had a soft spot for this film ever since renting it from the video store in the late 80s.
@@Brian-qn7fn I saw it for the first time on the USA network. I recorded it on a VHS tape. It is a great movie!!
This movie really needs a Blu Ray release.
I couldn't agree more. What's taking them so long?
I can't wait for Prom Night 3 The Last Kiss!!
Can't wait for Brad to review parts 3 and 4.
Haven’t seen such a left turn for a horror sequel since Texas chainsaw massacre 2
What about Slumber Party Massacre 2?
1:56 wait, wait, wait, Terri Hawkes, like the voice of Sailor Moon in the 90s? 😮
Yep! And Vicky was Queen Serenity's voice!
@@ShadowSonic2 "You shut your ****ing mouth *****!" *anime swirly eyes**
Lisa Schrage played the villain so well, they should’ve had her in the sequel
Love when Brad just can’t stay serious and cracks at the very end of a recording 2:03
My favorite movie of all time!!
We need a Michael Ironside choose your own adventure episode.
Like the one Snob did for Steve Guttenberg?
The funny thing is, Michael Ironside was only around 36 or so when this movie was made...he was at least 10 years younger than his character was supposed to be!
Just watched this for the first time literally this weekend! Great timing!! Really loved this movie.. Nightmare on Elm Street 3&4 are my favorites of that franchise and this movie REALLY gives that vibe.
Is it weird that any time Michael Ironside deals with a school, it never ends well? Just look at this, "Starship Troopers" and "X-Men: First Class".
I really love this flick. A solid cast, some very creepy atmospheric moments, and genuine attempts at humor and character building. Another case where I thought a sequel bested the original.
Awesome Vid love me Some Prom Night 2
I love how much I’ve learned from all of Brad’s arcane jokes and references over the years. It has made rewatching the older episodes more rewarding and enjoyable. 80’s Michael Ironside, you know your going to be in for a good time
I missed all the sequels so this was a good reminder that I have to watch them all now. Guess I have my week planned out for me. Thanks Snob!
Prom Night 2 has a white horse? Like Rob Zombies Halloween 2!
This movie looks absolutely wild. The Nightmare on Elm Street influence really punches it up and makes me want to see it now.
God's honest truth that horse is one of the flat out creepiest effects I've ever seen in a horror movie!
Cool video as always Snob 💯
Thanks Brad, now know what we’re watching during this year’s Halloween watch parties.
Love this movie. Such a fun lil horror movie
Eyyy I never realized Ironside was in this 🤘sick
Had never seen this movie. However, saw you had a review coming up of this so took the time to watch it last night just so I could appreciate your review more today! Such a great episode man!!
@narcolepticchihuahuaproduc1801 And there was another sequel in 1990! Prom Night III: The Last Kiss. 👸👑🧟♀🎥
Remember kids, Never get into the car with Darkseid
I enjoy this guilty pleasure of a movie...I hope you do Prom Night 3
The rocking horse prop was auctioned off a couple years back and I missed grabbing it by like weeks. :(
This looks way better than the first film. Funny how some sequels do that, like Ghoulies 2.
Prom Night 2's box art is one of those among movies like C.H.U.D that has burned into my brain from my childhood. Now we need The Cinema Snob review of Frogs and The Garbage Pail Kids and the circle is complete!
@JDelwynn Did you know there was a sequel to this movie? Prom Night III: The Last Kiss in 1990?👸👑🎥🏫
Another horror movie name connection: the kid in the beginning, Bud Cooper, is the name of the writer/director of The Mutilator 1 & 2.
this actually looks amazing
16:38 The pimp hand is strong with Wendy Lyon!
What a wonderfully bonkers film! The mixing of genres, taboo subject matter, over the top violence... Did Bruno Mattei secretly direct this film?
I remember watching this right after watching the original Prom Night. My reaction was "Wtf just happened?!?"
Dunno why but the sandpaper joke got me laughing way too much.
Thank you !!!

I smiled once. I almost died.
I'll have to watch this-I love a good bonkers revenge horror film.
Prom Night 3 is my favorite lol
Prom Night 2 isn't a great Slasher, but it's better than the Original Prom Night. Great Review!😀👍
How have you not reviewed this yet snobby?
I saw this before Prom Night. I didn’t know there was a prom Night 1
I saw the thumbnail and wondered when Weird Al did a Hello Mary Lou parody until I figured out what was going on.
The priest in the confession booth looks like Richard Donat. I guess he got tired of listening to hussies and decided to start a secret society in Nova Scotia to fight "the troubles."
Did you already review curtains? I would really love to see that, love your reviews so much
I met a Mary Lou in real life.

Terri hawks is the og English dub voice for sailor moon ❤❤❤
Figured someone pointed that out before me. LOL
Also mentioned that Wendy Lyon also did the voice for Queen Serenity. :D
@@sfighter0085 oh snap totally forgot lol thank you for reminding me!
We might as well say Hello Mary Lou Prom Night II was based on a different legend maybe in a paranormal parallel universe. That’s what I think.
The priest is named after Mutilator director Buddy Cooper. I always forget there are like 4 films in this franchise.
Terri Hawkes was also the voice actor for the titular character in Sailor Moon in the 90's dub. It was astonishing to hear Sailor Moon being such a foul mouth mean girl 🤣
Just in case nobody's said this... Terri Hawks was the voice of Sailor Moon.
That's why her voice sounds so familiar.
And Vicky was her mom, Queen Serenity!
I bought this on DVD back in like 2007 and it's always been one of my favorite kind of random horror movies
I think the 80s was the best year in horror movies

Why did the school hide Mary Lou's crown in the Puppet Master trunk?
Hello Mary Lou sounds like it would be the title of a Buddy Holly song
3 of my friends stated balding at highschool. Wasn't easy for them.
I noticed Brad or Snob has been interesting his face in the thumbnails a lot.
Beethoven's Treasure Trail? Getting some Wood Rocket vibes from that one.
What, Dixie Carter from Designing Women

That's Prom Night 3. You can thank Svengoolie for that
Don't worry guys, Sailor Moon will protect them
I've seen Michael Ironside lately and he looks really different. More like Wilford Brimly.
Yeah, he got old and fat.
I wonder how batshit insane the third movie is.
I actually did start balding in highschool, at 17.
You mean to tell me that's NOT Carol Kane playing Vicki?
Prom Night 2 is so much better than the original one that it's not even funny
Also the actor playing young Billy bears a disturbing resemblance to professional wrestling personality Jim Cornette

So which review Prom Night 2 is better, Phelous' or Snob's?
"I have had sinful thoughts about my boyfriend..." Which one is he? Oh, yeah, I remember when he was an altar boy. You're forgiven that one, my daughter.
Beethoven's Treasure Trail is another one of those that sounds like it's own porn parody.
If you think this movie is bizarre, wait until the Snob reviews Prom Night 3.
Ice cream?

neat
I mainly remember the scene where the one girl blows the computer kid to make her the queen.
