You said it best. It’s not about respecting builds, it’s about respecting the builder. Anyone who is really into cars can appreciate hard work, dedication, fine craftsmanship, and niche parts. I miss those old car meet days too :(
Precisely. Nobody cares about the time a skill takes to master when they can just pay to have whatever done with zero knowledge on what is actually happening. They try and get clout (majority somehow succeed) over them signing a credit card check. Not even real money. If we are all thinking alike soon enough these dumbass clout chasers will learn. I couldn’t imagine being into cars and saying oh yeah I’m taking my car to this shop I’m not accountable for any aspect of it.
Exactly. Everyone got the same mods because they want to be as cool as their favorite influencer or go with the flow of whatever online community they’re part of.
Im sure I'm a bit older than you, BUT people have been building cars for “followers” for 70-plus years, look up Don Tognotti's 1913 Ford Model T Roadster called The King T, in the 70’s it was built for the sole purpose of making the cover of car magazine thus making it a popular draw at car shows, cars were built in the 60’s for likes and views (it's just people viewed and liked the cars in person at a show or in a magazine) in the 80’s everyone built cars and sent pictures to magazines for the purpose views and notoriety, how do you think Chip foose got popular, Social media isn't new its just a different form of displaying your work to the public, and building cars for the sole admiration of others is well over a 70-year trend
@eugenewoo8352 sure but I personally don't feel certain people are buying cars or "modifying cars" because they like them. They just see other people out there getting a following doing "X" thing.
I'm glad someone said it. I'm tired of these "kids" (20-30) not listening to my & my friends' advice and blowing their shit up or buying cars they can't afford to learn on (euro cars)
I don't think car culture is dying I see my nephews just geek off of classic cars it's just we're At a point where affordability and car enthusiast ain't on the same page
youre 100% correct, its not dying its actually growing one trip to the SEMA show should tell anyone that, China is off roading, there are Lowriders in Egypt and Donks in Austrailia car culture is growing
crazy thing is if you look at pages like lowlife or marshbuilt you’ll see people bringing in their stance cars for a camber arm and coil over install and it’s those same people who talk down on others not building their own car or wanna say a car is bad cause they only added wheels and coils but they literally can’t install a camber arm
There’s totally a point where a lot of this stuff has become super expensive and not worth it with how expensive it is to just stay afloat now. But you are totally right, when the meet looks like a dealership lot and nothing is any different than stock, it sucks a lot, it’s boring after, and all the idiots end up attracting all the cops and ruining it for everyone else.
Not “I’m buying your car!” 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣. This was funny, but so real! Honestly I stopped going to a lot of car meets due to the younger kids doing dumb and getting the cops called on the whole meet. I prefer to hang with older chill people who know how to act like they got some sense.
Man this was on point! I stopped going to car meets few years ago, it really changed. I only go to the track now, the serious respectable people are still there, thankfully.
Yep, in MICHIGAN there’s a road named Woodward Avenue that has annual cruises on the strip. These past couple years have been the worst…. We’ve encountered our first “takeover” activities, burn outs and chases are more normal than parking up in a spot and vibing like good ol days…. I’ve completely withdrew myself from that scene and only have BBQ/Bonfires with close peeps
We are just getting older Uncle G. It's a different generation growing up in a world with 700-1000hp cars on the dealer lot. Believe me, I hate seeing these entitled children (in their 20's) pulling up with M5 comps or leased scat packs. I have a 15yr old son and I have a huge car problem, I'm buying 2-3 cars a year always on Cars and Bids and Bring A Trailer. We go to the track, cars and coffee you name it and he could give a shit less. He has minimal intreast in cars and says stuff like, bro, a tesla is faster. I have been talking about downsizing the fleet and getting a manual 360 or 997 Turbo and he's not fazed. I have no clue how this happened with me being so emerged in the car world. But he, at least he is not apart of the side show nonsense.
Ppl buying new cars and barely modifying them is a thing sure, but most “kids” late teens or early twenties can’t afford the car game anymore. If most regular ppl are struggling day to day financially, I can’t expect many young ppl to be able to drop 10k minimum that it takes to buy a shit box and modify it. Even shit boxes ppl want 2-5k+ usually. It’s not impossible of course, but the car scene has become way less accessible
Save car culture set a budget of 10k including cost of the car and just make it classy and track ready and we will rehabilitate car culture one edgar at a time 🎉🎉🎉
When will the car scene start bluilding SPEC race cars for scca, gridlife, nasa, bracket drag racing and formula d with their "race car parts"? I got my gameplan for my two sports cars & I'm about to add a third race car to the stable. All with different purposes and spec modifications.
Car meets used to be dope until the thieves started scoping and following people home. Then the rejects of the meet starts doing donuts out of spite after being told numerous times, "This aint that kind of meet" Then the kids showed up and started destroying peoples cars because they dont like an anime livery. Then the side show bull shit started. Alot of us OGs are now building in privacy and on an iykyk type of thing.
Some of the meets I used to go to have devolved similarly. I haven't been to one since 'rona. I've just been cruising and going to the track with a few organized shows here and there.
Uncle Garry, you always put the biggest smile on my face seeing you on camera. I've had the feeling the scene has been dying for a while now. My car's and coffee now codt money to fucking go to. Everything is about money now. I went to one of the first few cars and coffee in MN and back then it was just people chilling. A girl had a 2000s Cavalier that she turbo charged. Coolest shit I've seen to this day. Better than any charger I've seen.
What makes it sadder is a lot of stuff isn't even that hard to work on or do. I'm 24 and try to do everything I can myself. I haven't done much in terms of crazy modifications, but my proudest carchievement is from last year, I bought a non running 2003 Mustang GT 5 speed manual convertible for a really good price. It was in our shop that I worked at, and the "master" techs couldn't even get it to crank, I heard it was gonna go to the junkyard and offered to save it. I got it to crank (turns out the techs never checked the engine fuses and a fuse was blown), then I got it to run with a new fuel pump and bam, I had an awesome car that I loved. I also ended up replacing the clutch in my gravel driveway, and replaced the entire top mechanism from another car. I regret selling it but such is life. If these kids put in a little effort like the cars from when I was growing up, then we'd actually have some respectable builds. Nobody tries and somehow they use TikTok and such to get famous, maybe I should finally download it and record my journey on making my new to me Mk7 GTI into a lightly built and tuned daily....
Gary is over 9000% correct about effort. "Be yourself" is not a cliche, grind reveals your true character. It's like the "We done wit da 90s" NBA slander, when Jordan and all-time 90s cars paved the way.
well said man. For me it feels like kids and people in general are coming into the car culture for clout instead of for the love cars. when I modify my cars it is not for clout, and I only do things I want whether they are popular or not. I will share my stuff but I am not worried whether people actually follow or even like my stuff, if you do you do if not oh well.
Gary is the BAMF we need to keep car culture alive but he can't do it alone, one candle can light one thousand. We have more tools and resources at our disposal than the previous generations. Took almost dying of ass cancer for me to learn this. Appreciate you Gary. Thank you for Rant Wed!
Gary you know Im showing up at stage 3 man... my uncles friends sisters boyfriend said thats all I need to when tx 2k in my New Edge mustang lmao. Good rant!! I miss the vibe. Back when the s chassis was plentiful, non of the panels matched and after the meet we always seemed to set up going to somebodies garage to work on something. Hell sometimes the garage session turned into the car meet.
I was just talking about this with my boy the other day i miss those rice srt4s dodge neons with the hood scoops an crazy bondo work lol atleast it was more effort than nowadays.
This why i dont go out to car meets. I went to one a couple weeks ago bc my coworkers dragged me and it was more of a party with cars around. Nobody was really talking about the cars much. I felt outta place with my 30 year old legacy wagon
The phone attachment people have kills me. God willing we live like 80 years, my generation will have spent half (if not more) on a damn phone. You're a good role model, Gary.
Tilde till then got me. Nail on the head though. People don't wanna put in work on their cars. And I get it, nobody wants to put in work and then end up on some insta page getting clowned on for no good reason.
Going to the wrong places? I have been to some great local events where there was everything from a turbo diesel drift Ford Ranger to a trad 32 Ford hot rod and didn’t hear any bs from builders and drivers, only a few twats who don’t know anything. Those fools were always there, we just ignored them. 28 years a car builder, driver and show attender. The people who don’t get different builds are not worth caring about and never were.
There is truth to what you said. The culture you seek unfortunately went into hiding, because many feel the same way. And because of that, A LOT and I mean A LOT of groups who still hold these values, went into hiding. They only talk to people they consider real friends and family. They only do invite-only meets, not even meets, they just meet at each others houses. Prior that experience happened at a car meet, in parking lot, where many of them first met each other and formed that bond. I know this from my own experience, to find someone who is my age (late 30s-40s) who has experience in car culture from the late 90s to the early 2000s to now is like finding a unicorn. Lol. And we feel the same about the majority of car meets, which are mainly people standing around by their car or in the groups they drove in with. No conversations, no community, just clicks huddled up in sections.
My two cents on a dying car culture. I believe it’s subconsciously due to the electric movement. Like you said Gary, it’s too easy. Yes, these electric cars are stupid fast! Also, self driving is changing the game. Soon, mark my words, “we will lose all driving rights” and the only way to drive will be in special tracks 😢
100%, i literally had a tesla driver explain to me that i don't know what its like to sit in traffic with a fast car and how tempting it is to speed through traffic my first thought was how we have literally had fast cars for years as enthusiast but a majority of us are considerate enough not to drive like dickheads in traffic
I agree with Gary 100% kiss these days have shit handed to them. You come to a local car meet in a stock g37 sedan that's not even yours it's your parents. And want to talk smack that I have a lifted prerunner tahoe that me and my brothers put hard work and dedication to build up. Yes we bought a tahoe cause I wanted more room to carry family around town. Our tahoe is built not bought it started life as a bone stock suv. That's why I stopped going to the local car meets aka the pavilions out here in Arizona cause too much shenanigans goes down with these stock cars. And you ruin the a car show/meet for everyone who has attended it for years.
I see this alot and It makes guys like me that are into cars and build cars not even really care to go to most car meets anymore. I never built a car for looks alone it was always to perform at a higher level for what it is. All I see at car meets are a bunch of ppl vaping and 2 step contests in show cars that dont even perform. I was always a form follows function type when building cars most of my cars are original paint and faded but have 500 whp rb25 and I use the car for all kinds of different driving events. I guess im more of a driver than a lets look at your bagged wrx blowing vape smoke type of guy different generations for sure. I was putting sr20s in 240s before drifting was popular in the usa. I have respect for all builds that people put time love and effort into. Id like to see more ppl actually making the cars perform better and be at the tracks and at meets talking about there setups than sitting around with cars that look nice but dont even run right or drive i guess is what im saying lol nothing wrong with building show cars if thats your thing but where are all the ppl building cars to actually drive to make them faster handle better stop better ect
Me and my friends don’t have social at all. We build fun euro and jdm cars that we can appreciate ourselves. It’s more exciting that way. I think a lot of the real cars guys stick to appreciating the car culture that way.
this why i dont like chargers, i pull up to a local meet. and i saw was stock scats, with visual mods and wraps. not one had any cool upgrades, then they had to nerve to try and roast me for being in a 240sx. yet they dont even own their cars, and im 15k just in the engine alone. and can easily out run any scat on the lot, aside from hellcats. and their wasnt even one of those their. and all the local meets have been like that, all chargers and crown vics. no bmws, yotas, nissans, lexus, etc etc.
Yeah I haven’t enjoyed a non exclusive car meet since before COVID. Public meets just don’t have the same type of people they once did. No one’s mellow looking to build community, it’s just people trying to blow up their page or TikTok. no quality people anymore
I’m 22 and i have a 96 impala ss , 99 vic, and 98 volvo wagon. Work your ass off and make the money. Get on marketplace and send it. Fix the shit when it breaks. Care about your belongings so you can continue to enjoy them. Also king King yes we’ve met lol
yea covid fucked everything up for 1 and. now basically everything has to come over to the stealer ship if I can hook a brother up that can't pay il do that shit after hours and make cash tax free. new vehicles they don't want you to service it , it's either trade it in or pay the price. I rather pay 10g than a $50÷ car payment and taxes, and fix it my self. everyone wants a fuckn cheap ass looking I pad stere that's where they get you. buy an I pad hit up soundman on his channel he builds custom molds to your existing vehicle take the I pad out or samsung tab etc. you have a good ride again. just stay on top on maintenance that shit is key , if the car says 50% till oil change fuck that drain it replace the filter and oil every 3000-4000 miles, plugs as well depending on your vehicle
You said it best. It’s not about respecting builds, it’s about respecting the builder. Anyone who is really into cars can appreciate hard work, dedication, fine craftsmanship, and niche parts. I miss those old car meet days too :(

Back at it again with the beautiful content
Car culture is all about Instant Gratification nowadays nobody takes the time to do anything
We have to forge a positive environment for Car culture to thrive.
Me and my friends don’t have social at all. We build fun euro and jdm cars that we can appreciate ourselves. It’s more exciting that way. I think a lot of the real cars guys stick to appreciating the car culture that way.
Shout-out to Scatman John lol. Goal this year is to take my IS out to my first track day. Everything is just too damn expensive though
this why i dont like chargers, i pull up to a local meet. and i saw was stock scats, with visual mods and wraps. not one had any cool upgrades, then they had to nerve to try and roast me for being in a 240sx. yet they dont even own their cars, and im 15k just in the engine alone. and can easily out run any scat on the lot, aside from hellcats. and their wasnt even one of those their.
and all the local meets have been like that, all chargers and crown vics. no bmws, yotas, nissans, lexus, etc etc.
“Maybe if you laid off the narcotics and laid on the nuts on bolts”. The Kings wisdom.
i really fw this one , like a OG preachin ✊🏽
Gary's the man with plenty of facts
I'll clean my room and even rearrange everything in my room but that Spider web ain't being touched 😂
People these days rather buy something fast than put in the effort to make something fast.
I still want to be part of the fastest stickshift class! That is being lost due to having a quick pass time.
Real quick though, due to automatics being faster, I wanted to be the fastest that I can be against an auto 335i vs stickshift that’s all.
Yeah I haven’t enjoyed a non exclusive car meet since before COVID.
Public meets just don’t have the same type of people they once did. No one’s mellow looking to build community, it’s just people trying to blow up their page or TikTok. no quality people anymore
That needed to be said, and I hope the young bloods listen, you don't need a bag of cash to upgrade your 300k car to love your whip and make it cool.
I'm never comment on videos but you just earned my subscription.....

You’re not lying that cobwebs been there for a minute 😂
Gary you need to come to l’oe show. You want to vibe come to the east coast.
Respect all builds has ruined it.
😂 It's not that I don't want to build cars, it's that it's so damn expensive.

Commenting on the video for the algorithm
Good to know Im not the only one thinking this 😂😂😂
No car meets anymore, see yall at the track!
Everything you said is why American culture is dying tbh, fun isn't allowed anymore it's just 1000hp builds to expensive to operate for a few people
yea covid fucked everything up for 1 and. now basically everything has to come over to the stealer ship if I can hook a brother up that can't pay il do that shit after hours and make cash tax free. new vehicles they don't want you to service it , it's either trade it in or pay the price.
American cars in general are banned from car meets and cars and coffee now😂 its always the young ones or cocky old fucks that eat shit
4:02 shit sounded personal lol
I didn’t know you could say Edgars….. on the Internet without getting in trouble
Gawd damn that was a meaningful rant
