We used a feeler gauge to slip underneath the larger ring then lifted up with a pick.
Either way was a nightmare

Push the center in and it gives you room to hook the outer ring

Big snap ring use a razor blade to pry it out took me about as long to type this .

I used the PT W1269 socket purchased from Amazon for around $15.00

The way you did it is the easiest way IMO. It tries to trick you into picking at the end of the ring. Don’t fall for it. 😅

I agree. Chasing that ring around and around the hub just doesn’t get you anywhere.
