i think their electronic balance is not well made because doing a nose dive mean the electronic get his limit Spedd vs Balance and the board must chose priority to balance and brake himself the wheel to save the balance .
The onewheel will "pushback" to let you know to slow down. When it does this the nose of the board will literally lift up as if the board is trying to brake, if you ride through that or try to push the nose back down the motor stops and the nose dives. This happens when you're going too fast for the motor to keep up or if it's close to over heating and again you need to slowdown. Its not very common to reach the limit of the onewheel, but definitely possible.
@@MGsModShop i read some guys have the nose dive at 50% battery at 9 miles and they don't have the nose up before .They said Samsung battery have problems they lost fastly power at 50% ,Sony battery are good ,check what's inside before buying .
I've been riding my OneWheel a lot, and I'm working on a follow-up video. If you have any questions feel free to ask me and I'll answer them in the upcoming video.
That's some funny s*** they give you a bunch of business cards for you to pass out hahaha. Need to get on their payroll you're doing all the work for them
@@zembelle I know you didn’t ask me, but you’re describing me to the letter. I tried a skateboard once when I was about 7 and nearly broke my tailbone. Decided that was it for me. I have had my Pint for a while and I LOVE IT.
It’s super fun. The floating feel is real. It’s the closest thing to surfing or deep powder snowboarding I’ve ever felt. However, I will probably never ride one again. Within 4 days of buying one, (I’m also 62 lifer skater and snowboard) I had a spectacular low speed 2 mph crash that ripped all my hamstrings right off the bone. Back foot came off the board, front stayed on. Helicopter ride to Shock Trauma, 4 days in the hospital, and six weeks non weight bearing before I can even start rehab. I thought my demise would be a high speed crash. This board doesn’t necessarily want to kill you, but it will if you make the slightest dumbass mistake, like I did. Yet and still, I’m tempted. It’s so fun. BEWARE!
And to think they now have these one wheel unicycles that have a much larger single wheel and some of these things are getting speeds up to 70 mph. Like the Begod Master and others.. These things are INSANE and you have to be just as crazy to get on something with one wheel going that fast where you're just standing up. If you have very smooth roads then it can be fun but if you had one good size pothole going at those speeds you're going to find out what it's like to be Superman real fast before you slam face first into the ground and probably break a number of bones if not outright being killed unless you're in a good helmet and body armor. Same goes for these scooters which were basically kids toys and now they have these scooters with little 10-in wheels that go up to 90 miles an hour. These people are out of their minds. I converted my mountain bike to an e-bike and it hit speeds of 30 miles an hour when I have a slight tailwind and even that makes me a little nervous because I've been in motorcycle accidents when I was younger. But I am on a large 26 inch mountain bike that is very solid and has shock absorbers and even still hitting even small potholes and bumps at those speeds I feel it right through the entire bike. Most of these things are death traps and are keeping doctors and emergency rooms in business but they really need to be many more videos like this warning about the dangers of these things
@@JediWitness2 I take my longboard up to about 35. You are correct though you need very smooth roads or big tires to be safe. The thing that scares me on the longboard is the speed wobble. Always wear protection always always always. Though what I like about my longboard over a bike is that I can just carry it someplace
CPSC is more or less trying to shut OneWheel down and make people stop riding Onewheels and as a person who made this video, I do not agree with CPSC about this at all. I still ride my OneWheel every chance I get and it has been one of the best joys in my life. And if you're here because of the title or the intro of my video, do not watch half of the video, finish the whole thing. My video is built to show you what can go wrong, so you don't push your luck and respect the devices limitations. As a former skateboarder, windsurfer and a terrible BMX rider that broke many bones riding that bike, I can tell you that every sport has its own dangers. I just believe OneWheel's dangers were not obvious until you face them and that is why my video is scripted the way it is. So, I do not agree with CPSC's decisions, however, I feel like more people should be reminded that they're on a single wheel board that balances itself and it has hard limitations. I hear issue isn't with onewheels, Just the last super shitty version where they have paired all parts and issues of nosedive. Also look into VESC diy alternatives like floatwheel.
I just got a GT. Grew up skateboarding and surfing. I realized after about 30 seconds how dangerous these things are. Decided to put buy wrist, knee, and ankle wraps, and put on all my old hockey gear. So glad I did because when you wipe out on concrete at full speed you are literally sliding 2-5 seconds. I don't care how ridiculous I look, gotta protect those bones and joints! Plus if you avoid injury thats more time you can be out practicing and actually enjoying it!
Get some motorcycle gear. I’ve seen a lot of people on one wheels with motorcycle gear on. I think they look smart considering the fatality stats on motorcycles that 50% of fatal crashes happen at or below 25 mph. Good on you for covering your bases (bones) and not caring what people think
I think one of those expanding airbag helmets but full body would be worth someone developing. Maybe head and a ring around the upper torso ? So many sports where it would be valuable.
3 people have died due to mechanical failure of the motor shutting off resulting in the nose dive. I had mine for almost 2 years and rode it almost every single day. I just left the ER with 2 major facial lacerations, a fractured nose in several places, dental damage and spinal brain fluid leakage for a nose dive a block away from home due to mechanical failure. I considered myself to be a very advanced rider and extremely athletic. There was zero way to brace properly for such a fall when it’s like driving a car at speed and the brakes completely lock up on your car out of nowhere. You’re at the mercy of fate. Future motion knows this problem and many others exist and have done little to nothing to fix or recall these machines that they KNOW have life threatening risks. I go into surgery next week. In good conscience I will not sell my board. I would never be ok with another human experiencing what happened to me. I’ll never ride mine again. I loved my ONEWHEEL. Like I said, I rode it to work just about every single day, but I was unaware of the ALL TOO COMMON MECHANICAL FAILURE. I am grateful to still be alive. And I feel an obligation to bring awareness to this dangerous malfunction that can be present in any ONEWHEEL BOARD. With such a dangerous risk I could no longer ever recommend the fun of riding a ONEWHEEL from Future Motion to anyone.
A friend of mine passed away last year after he crashed his OW.... I did not feel it was appropriate to ask his family for any details, but I do know he hit a pothole, and was not wearing a helmet.
Had to have been due to head injury, these only go like 18mph right? My EUC goes twice that fast and I never feel in danger riding it with full gear. Wear a damn helmet!
Always Always Always wear a helmet and pad up. You never know. I've had my worst crashes on skis and snowboards going fast in easy conditions. When you're too relaxed, disaster strikes.
I’m sorry to hear that man, my condolences to him and his family. I knew the company themselves were sketchy as all hell, but until this video and to some extent your comment, I didn’t realize how *truly* dangerous a board like this is. Thank you for sharing what you could.
@@Chris-xo2rq you forget that one wheel doesnt 'crash' like other things. a bike, skate board, roller blades, you can have a controlled crash and none of them throw you strait into the ground at speed like one wheel does.
I feel like this should be the PSA that people watch before they're allowed to buy one. They are super cool, very powerful, and useful. But also dangerous and require careful attention, and practice.
@@SteveZ1 Im guessing you are not a snowboarder or skateboarder. I bike to work and i see those EUCs and laugh-- they look so sterile and boring. I am simply uninspired by zooming straight ahead. I can carve on a onewheel like a snowboard, i can ride on the beach, i can groove across enormous park lawns, i can blast down a dirt trail. I'd much rather take the splendor of funky riding that the Onewheel offers, with its associated risks than some pavement-ridden EUC any day. But to each their own, my friend. Just offering a counter-point.
@@LeeroyBlazin don't dis us none skate or snowboarders. I prefer skiing all day long and can't skateboard to save my life. But I love my onewheel. Granted I figured id hate it until I tried my neighbors and got hooked instantly.
@@benjamindbarr If i dis anything it was EUCs, they look particularly boring. I was speaking (however poorly!) to the need to be familiar with riding sideways. If you have not spent time riding sideways, it will certainly be a learning curve. I own 2 skateboards, 1 pair of rollerblades, a snowboard, and a set of downhill skis, and xcountry skis. There are definitely learning curves to all and should be approached responsibly. Except for EUCs, those things look lame! =p
As a rider of nearly 2 years I can confidently say that *99.9% of nosedives are USER ERROR* Most people try to go fast too quickly, push uphill too hard, or the biggest culprit is going too fast on a low battery. Once you understand the OneWheel and its limits _nosedives_ become a thing of the past.
Unfortunately you learn that best by taking a dive. Strong push back on the pint eliminates that problem just with less range. My feet last about as long as the pint can go anyway.
@@jlip4308 that's true.. once you nosedive a time or two you really start to understand where to back off. But as far as feet go, I absolutely love long floats. I've done a 50 mile day trip twice with my wifey.
@@c0pyimitati0n that is impressive! Maybe I'll get there eventually. It took me a month for my feet to adapt for what I do. My feet adapted to the start of snowboarding season much better after getting good workouts on the Pint. Float ON

Before getting one, I’d scoff at this and say well I’ll be fine, I can be careful and I won’t fall. I’m now sitting here, a month into owning one, with a broken collar bone, cringing at the idea of falling again.
Goddamn dude. How are you doing, heal alright? Did you ride again? These things seem amazing but my intuition tells me not to bother with the price. I may as well get a decent quality push scooter lol.
@@GlazeonthewickeR I healed up just fine, after about 3 months I was back to normal. I could never get back on it and feel comfortable though. Anything over running speed was out of the question. Now I’d never consider getting anything with less than 2 wheels on it. You can at least coast with 2 wheels. With one wheel you’re relying solely on a motor that can cut out with very limited to no warning.
I’m 57 years old, a career SOF Officer and have done many a crazy shit in my adult life. Floating is the bomb. My kid brother (40) turned me on to the Pint when I got back from a tour in Africa. I bought one about a month ago. I’ve burned-in-wasted-twice but I jumped back in the saddle. Floating is surfing, is snowboarding anywhere, anytime. Life will never be the same.
My dad had a horrible crash on a one shell that ripped is acl, mcl?(not sure if it’s a thing but it was something like that) and ripped his quad. He was out for a few months and couldn’t wait to get back on it. I’ve ridden on it and absolutely love it. The reason he crashed was because he had a very heavy backpack and didn’t realize that the one wheel was kicking back because of the weight. It also made the crash a bit worse
😂 he must have suffered brain damage as well to be itching to get back on the toy that jacked him up so bad. I know it's your dad and I mean no disrespect, but dang, there are priorities in life like the abilty to walk or provide for a family. I hope you don't make the same poor decisions despite the example set.
They now have little wheels that you can put under the front that prevent the board from digging in during a nose dive and it works well. This should have been incorporated into the design from the start and would have prevented many injuries.
@@Gadgetmawombo It shuts off when overloaded, and at other random times. There should be an audible alarm or a soft shut down rather than a merciless attempt to kill the rider
@@metepack4872 adleast the new ones have strong pushback and people complain about it but it is a lot more noticeable and I like it better because I actually know when to slow down unlike the xr
Same here...I think that's the message people need to understand. Those first few miles are like bliss..then reality sets in because you just found the boards limits.
25 miles in no crash. Then nose dive pristine asphalt. Was just cruising. No warning. Happy birthday to the ground. Collarbone broken in four places. Skittish about getting back on it thinking about selling it. Future motion sending me tests to check the board out believe we had electronic failures. Really enjoy trail riding in woods.
they made the onewheel fangs or something like that and theyre just little wheels you put on the front and they help with nosedives by just rolling and not stopping and yeeting you off
Yeah, they are great, saved me from a couple of nosedives, was able to just angle the noise back up and keep rolling. I think they should be standard on this thing
Life long skateboard snowboarder and I loved my plus. However, its ease of use and lack of safety failsafes makes it incredibly dangerous. The worst part is if you try and voice your concerns in any of the OW groups or forums they burn you ad a heretic. I had mine turn off going down a slight hill with 24% battery and was able to somersault out safely but criticized for saying if you can’t safely ride it below 30% battery it shouldn’t work under that charge. I still love it and now the limits for the most part But it’s definitely a Dad killer. Poor bastards
This has to be one of the realest reviews I’ve seen of the OneWheel. It’s not over highlighting the risks without carefully acknowledging how riders need to be warned and careful when operating such a device. So glad I stumbled upon this video. Still want a OneWheel lol
Yup IT DOES NOT WARN TWICE IT WILL JUST THROW U OFF and it hurts at 18mph! Couldn't breathe and I'm sure I fractured my ribs . I was depending g on the warnings ......nope never happened at full speed went flying, smacked the pavement so hard oooh weeee
HHahHa hey I’m in the video at 0:29!! Right after Casey!! Haha. Yea, I tore my acl. But I’m back at it riding everyday again now! Whoop. Love the Onewheel.
Jesse Patterson - Convert who to what? I personally wish NYC would convert me to love it. Would love to see a side of NYC that wasn’t about spending excessive money, about trash on the streets, or just seeming like a different world than the suburbia I’m used to. I’m open minded to feeling happy or excited! I’ve been there a few times on business trips, Broadway twice but other than that I haven’t tried fun things that would make me love the city. Just missed out on the “romance” of NYC.
I agree with this, but you have to be a rich person to want to spend $2,100 on something like this, I personally ride electric unicycles as there’s a lot more variety, and way more of everything for the same price, and you can actually go off curbs and not die!
@@snoopdoggthecertifiedg6777 Yep, an electric unicycle can replace a car for city transit because of the high and safe (safer than OW) cruising speed. OW can’t provide that option, so it’s just a low speed recreational gimmick.
This feels like the advice I used to give about riding motorcycles. It’s trying to balance the risks you will encounter with the amazing experience that it is. You can’t make the decision for people, especially given the chance of an accident. It has to be their choice. That said, i still want one of these badly..
Agreed that motorcycles don’t throw you to the ground randomly, but there is still an element of chance due to wildlife and other motorists. Related note, I’m hard pressed to think of a good way to build redundancy into one of these since electronics can be pretty unreliable.. I mean, it only has one..wheel..
Samuel Shterenberg the pint does everything the xr does. The only difference is the size and battery. The battery in the pint is specifically designed for small commutes or calculated routes. The wheel is also a little smaller as well but not by very much
I had a "happy birthday" today on my Pint. First one I couldn't explain. I was going super slow and up a very gentle incline. Luckily I just got some bruises and scraped skin. Like he says, it throws you down so it is harder to react. He makes a good balanced assessment of the Onewheel. Just wish it weren't so dangerous because it is my favorite thing.
Once you get the fangs (the 2wheels on the front) your fear of crashing is not so scary. The fangs makes such a huge difference. Now I go all out with no fear of kissing the ground. Also the front nose slide is super fun. Granted you have to go into your app and go to the custom settings to activate it. But it's so much funner than I ever thought it would be.
As a Onewheel rider who experienced a major fall recently, I’m going to say, I am EXTREMELY lucky I only got some moderate scrapes and didn’t break any bones.
My uncle crashed yesterday an had to get life flighted broken femur, hip, wrist and has a bad head injury he’s older but the way he nosed dived outta nowhere is wht freaks me out about these things
Thought this would be a hit piece discouraging anyone from buying one, but I'm pleasantly surprised at how candid this review was. I've been a snowboard instructor for ~20 years, so I really appreciate the discussion about technical aspects and limitations, and how user input / error can lead to a bad time (and hence what to keep in mind when operating one). I knew there would be a learning curve and that it would take some practice before using it on difficult terrain, but this reinforces that and reminds you to stay humble when starting out. I think I want one even more than before, even if all those 'extras' are actually essential and will make that bottom line hurt more than it already does.
As a snowboarder since 1986, I found the feel of deep powder cruising. The carving feels the same, but turning on a one wheel requires some retraining. For instance, on a one wheel, if you get slowed down by spotty thick grass or mud, you have to push weight forward instead of back to get out of it. The turning is almost a mirror image.
In my couple years of riding the Onewheel, I have never nosedived above 10 mph. If you understand how to ride the board and respect it's limits, it can be a very safe vehicle. I use it to commute and as a filmmaking tool. It's amazing!
Untrue statement, the OneWheel is very dangerous because of the “nosedive” issues. I’ve only nosedived my OneWheel at 17.5 miles per hour about seven times. All on asphalt. That being said, the OneWheel is the coolest toy I’ve ever owned! But always wear a helmet!
Slide Wreck Dan I really wish they’d leverage the BT functionality to make an audible pushback function. Think along the lines of the beeping that becomes ever more furious on vehicle park distance control as you approach an obstacle. As the available motive force and expended motive force approach parity you warn of an impending under power by going from infrequent beeps to a steady tone. I also think being able to set an artificial top speed might allow for additional pushback effort as you’ve got more reserve torque on hand if you’re not busy overcoming top speed rider wind resistance and rolling losses. I have a pair of pints and I understand the pushback is more pronounced on these smaller machines.
It seems like they need an idler wheel upfront, so when the nose dives it has the potential to roll rather than act as a break. Although you have convinced me I’ll stick to a bicycle!
I fell off my one wheel 4 years ago. I smashed my left elbow and wrist. I had to get pins installed in both. I had 2 surgeries and 6 months of rehab. I can extend my arm to about 90% of its full motion. I should have been wearing protective gear. EVERYONE should wear protective gear. Don’t be like me. Also luckily I had health insurance. The whole thing came out to be over 60,000 dollars. (I live in the US)
Yeah, I’m sitting here with a bruise all the way down my leg from a nasty fall on my Onewheel last week end. ... I can’t wait to get back out and ride.
Yep. I fell of mine, I didn’t want to face plant so I tucked and basically did a front flip and landed on my back/shoulder blade. I was more upset about my beats flying off and getting scratched
the hardest part is when she bucks you, then you have to hop back on and ride home beaten but still thankful you didn't have to limp home, evan though you worried she will do it again
Great review. I actually busted my ass on my XR when I first got it. I had it on a lower mode trying to play it “safe” and go slower but all that mode did was initiate kickback at a lower speed. I didn’t understand what was happening. I wasn’t “fighting” the kickback, I was trying to regain my balance because the kickback was throwing me off balance I felt like I was going to fall backwards. I tried to regain my balance and the board kept speeding up. Mind you I wasn’t leaning forward, the board was still leaning back and speeding up. Since it was leaning back I didn’t understand why I wasn’t slowing down and since it was leaning back far back I “fought” to regain my balance and this thing ends up at about 25 mph going through a stop sign with the nose up. It was then I pancaked on my back at 25 mph. My helmet saved my life.
what you described is fighting the pushback. you were leaning forwrd, just the front footpad was higher than the back, but your weight was still in front of the wheel = you speed up
eh... no thanks... you know how many notifications i get because "slip was detected"?? thanks for reminding me i decided to ride it through a forest and down a hill and through traffic in the rain....
The one wheel is a bad design. The correct configuration for that kind of vehicle is the electric unicycle with your feet to the sides of the wheel. Electric unicycles (EUCs) have been around for a few years, and are much more stable. They also have larger wheels which makes them more stable on rough ground. Manufacturers of EUCs have learned to use MUCH larger motors and batteries that what is available on the one wheel. This provides not only higher speeds, but much better safety margin, as a valuable power headroom is what keeps you from face planting when you lean forward. I have ridden a King Song 16 and 18XL for thousands of miles and never had a crash caused by lack of power or mechanical failure.
I have rode skateboards for 6 years, rode one of these yesterday and nosedived around 10mph and was slammed into the ground. Dislocated my arm and cant work now. Thanks onewheel.
This vid was the first I ever heard of a Onewheel. My first thought a minute in was "Wow, dangerous. I wouldn't ride one." It got me watching more videos though, and long story short I bought one. I put 400 miles on the board before my first and only nosedive. My fault. I regret nothing. Funniest thing I've ever ridden and I've rode a bunch of stuff. Just remember the 3 most important rules; 1. Respect the board (it's and your limitations) 2. Safety gear 3. Don't fall!
@@wideopenthrottl i took it out in the winter for the first time since late summer and didn't warm up my skills. I was bundled in winter clothes and the board handled different in the cold and with less air in the tire. I came out real fast and ate it in like 3 seconds.
"It's shaped like a band-aid, which is actually a foreshadow..." HA. Got mine last week, already ate it, and Im all healed up and ready to ride some more! Love it.
Just picked up my OW last week and I agree on everything you said. Always a edge of danger but it is easily the most fun device I’ve ever used. Great video!!!
Life long surfer and skater here. One wheel is extremely fun, hard to get off of, sad when the battery is almost gone. BUT it’s the most dangerous thing I’ve ever done! Crashing in water can hurt but crashing on a OW can (and did me) put you in the hospital! Many times I’ve wanted to cut mine into 1000 pieces and send it back along with a giant juicy terd! Bottom line is, if you’re single, have fun. If you’re a family person and you have people who count on you, you’re an idiot for getting on one! Its not “if” it’s “when”
I always thought these were pretty cool but once I started researching which eBoards to get I discovered Electric Unicycles and just couldn’t turn down the value for your money you get with them. The range and speed for the price is just too great, even if they have a stigma of being nerdy or uncool.
Fun fact: U.S. Olympic equestrian trainer Daniel Stewart, who I trained under, used a simple version of this called a "balance board" (i.e. rocker board) to also improve balance in riders.
Woah. That intro. I've been debating an evolve offroad vs the one wheel to upgrade my cheaper skateboard I have now. I'll have to try one before deciding this summer. What's the range again on the one wheel?
Evolves might take you further, but as someone whos had both the OWXR is wayy better. I put triple the miles on my XR than the evolve, in my opinion, its more fun.
Great video! Thank you for sharing your experience and mentioning the notable facts about the Onewheel. I love my board, the pros definitely out weigh the cons.
My friend was almost killed by one of these just a couple of months ago. Sounds very cliche, I know, until it's you or someone you know. He was in a coma for weeks and we weren't positive he was going to make it, but one day he miraculously pulled out of it. I ride three wheelers, I'd never ride a one wheeler.
I’ve owned my OneWheel only about a year, but it has still driven me to 3 birthday parties.... hosted by the ground. Love this video! Happy Birthday y’all! 🖤
Great review. Watched it till the end. Riders hurt themselves. Maybe riders should have been better versed... but now they are. Love my elec longboard evolve skateboard and would still try one of these. Looks pretty cool.
Always look where ure going. Im waiting for a surgery as ive broke off the tip of my elbow, just because i looked away for a split second and hit a big bump on the sidewalk...
Great video. Got mine two weeks ago. I currently have a massive lump on my elbow, bruising all the way down my forearm, scarring on my hip and knee, and an unwipable smile on my face. It is dangerous, but much less so if you respect the board, and it is ridiculously fun.
Great post. I was thinking about buying an XR for me and a Pint for my 12yo son. I think I may reconsider now. You pointed out a lot of limitations that I hadn't considered before!
40 solid years of skateboarding, including 8+ bombing hills in S.F. and that's not only a deathtrap, but embarrassing as well. Good vid- you're saving lives. Nothing assisted. Thank you, *A.
True true. I bought mine and won't say I regret it, but I definitely underestimated the learning curve and I will attribute that to my lack of research before buying. Onewheel company doesn't really make any efforts to warn their customer's about this learning curve in my opinion. I nose-dived earlier this week while practicing breaking and slammed my head against the pavement. If I was not wearing a helmet I would probably have a serious concussion. I am enjoying the process of learning and will say that the product is very enjoyable, but it's definitely not something I would recommend someone if they want to be able to commute safely right out of the box. Also, I don't know how much this would hurt their profits, but I think it's pretty sneaky not to offer some sort of 30-day money-back guarantee. It makes it seem like the company knows that they are marketing the product to seem super easy, safe, and chill while knowing that the average consumer will get the product while super hyped by the ads and realize that they are better off buying a more traditional EV.
There are a bunch of Kitesufers in Tampa,FL area that love OneWheel, but I will pass on it and keep riding my electric scooter. fuck OneWheel...I did fall hard on one and never again!
Great video! I bought the plus a couple years ago and loved it but after around 1,200 miles and many nosedives later I no longer trust them and have moved on to EUC. THE Onewheel also makes my knees hurt. I live in the mountains and the weak little Onewheel can’t handle the off-road stuff like the EUC especially if you throw a rough grass hill in there. If you are watching this and thinking of getting a Onewheel I very strongly suggest getting an electric unicycle instead. Top of the line ones are practically the same price as a XR but get more than double range, higher speed ( meaning if you ride about 18-20mph or slower like me you’ll never overpower the system and eat shit), better off road capability, most have a trolley handle like a luggage case for easy transport, more natural standing position reducing fatigue by a lot so you can use that extra range and during most fails you simply end up going from riding to trotting instead of kissing pavement, can jump up curbs instead of bonking, can ride down stairs, some versions have an included mud guard so you can save $100. Actually you save more than that if you factor in all the items needed to complete the Onewheel turd just to be able to do some (not all) of the stuff I do on my $2,000 KS16X. You need a fender, flight fins, an external battery even on their XR. Still won’t go the 70-90 miles my 16X will on a charge and still can’t handle the mountain bike trails we ride 🤷🏽♂️. Still gotta carry it so you might as well get that $100 handle too 😂. With an EUC you’ll wipe the smile right off a Onewheel riders face as you run circles around them safer and for less money. Onewheels are cool if you don’t want to do a whole lot of adventure riding, go very far, or if you don’t mind charging a lot. Idk about the XR but the plus only goes about 3-5 miles max in the winter on smooth pavement and it’s rated at 5-7 miles. This is like less than half an hour of riding around with range anxiety on top of that. I don’t see the XR being worth the price. Enough rambling. If I saved just one person from wasting their money or getting hurt then it’s worth it!
@@RennieAsh Huge learning curve. I got my first EUC last month and I have put in dozens of hours into learning it. I have just started going over 25 mph and can somewhat confidently ride on the street now. It may be difficult the first few days but it will be one of the best things you will ever experience in your life.
I have 550 miles on my XR and love it!! I ride it everywhere. There's a look of confusion on the faces of motorists when they see a fat old man riding all over town on one wheel. They won't get it until they get one of their own.
i tried a friends one wheel. he had two. we raced them and i fell, but i rolled a buch and it wasnt to bad, i was trying to see how fast i cud go on a rubber track and field track. i also went pretty fast into a thick tree root. i flew like 3-4 ft in the air but i landed it. i was 75% expecting to wipe out there but my fried was amazed by the air i got. it was pretty insane. i love the idea of a one wheel.
I remember trying a friend's longboard when I was in middle school, and the small wheels getting stuck in the cracks of the road scared me away from any kind of "board" for years, even now, when I've built my own esk8, it's on a mountainboard chassis, and riding it along with my snowboard are the two things I will always wear a helmet for
I'm sure there are plenty of comments already since this is a two year old thread, but if you're an adrenaline junking like it seems then you need to add electric unicycles to your mix of toys. They are much fast, much longer battery life and a completely different feel. Nothing really to compare between the two, except that they both only have a single wheel, but definitely something to add to your mix of fun on wheels ... if you have money to burn. Or you could sell something and then get one. Either way, look into it if you haven't already.
I love this video! At first I was “ah come on man, it’s not that bad” then you wrapped it up with how great of a device it was then you won me over lol
I borrowed an XR and ate ground on my first ride. Bruised from ankle to hip and decided I had to have my own so I ordered my own that very night. This review is hilarious and 💯 accurate!
After 2k miles on my XR, I switched to a Hoosier treaded tire and I am in LOVE again. It took a couple miles to get used to it, and I first I regretted it. But happy to say I’m shredding way harder than ever, especially on trails
I rented a Segway in San Diego back in 2011. Pushed the forward limit as much as possible and went over big bumps. Ended up doing a Superman as the wheels ran out forward and I did a belly flop on the concrete. Shook it off and didn't do any real damage. It was humbling. I bought a used XR today and am using my Segway experience as a reminder.
I installed "fangs" on my XR to avoid falling off. They are basically 2 little wheel on the end to take some of pressure off when the board is losing power or its trying to slow down.
6:20. Yes ARM is a Japanese-owned British company, but it didn't make the arm chip in this device. ARM _designs_ chips, other people make them: Samsung, Rockchip, Qualcomm, Apple, Ampere, NXP, Freescale, Broadcom, TI, Atmel, Renesas, STMicro (there are hundreds of suppliers) etc. I have no idea which device is in this thing but it could be from China, Korea, the US, or Europe.
Great video! The Onewheel offers freedom and danger that almost no other electric vehicle can, which I think is part of the appeal... much like riding a motorcycle. Be safe and enjoy the ride! It's not a matter of if you fall, but when , so be safe!
Stop, you're not all the sudden going to get slammed to the ground on a motorcycle as you're chilling on a relaxing ride. You sound like a one-wheel fan boy. It's a dangerous POS contraption made for idiots who like broken bones.

I think that these things should have a remote controller in case of some of the models starting to drive on its own so that they could be turned off if that would happen Especially the GT had the ghosting problem and even hurt someone when it drove off

1400 miles on my onewheel so far. Ive eaten shit like 2x, but both time I had gear on and just shook it off. Its an amazingly fun device, but people dont give it the respect it deserves. Keep it around 15 mph and dont accelerate too fast, and you will be fine.
For this exact reason I just want the pint. Lol I have test drove am XR and I wouldn't push it past 10 mph honestly. But good to know I really want one and I'm saving up for one! (Got my safety gear sitting in my Amazon cart lol)
OK Tyler Durden, just make sure you think of it less as a “thing” and more as a hobby, and don’t put too much hope in it that it’ll change your life. You won’t be able to ride it on the street with other cars, and the police don’t want you riding it on sidewalks either. Protection is smart and will come in handy. But it can be fun.
Hope you're doin ok bro. Life is tuff now a days but starting hobbies and learning new things is a great way to fight boredom and depression. Once you start getting less interested put it away and move to a different hobby. And youll find yourself going back and forth in your hobbies throughout the year. Best of luck

I outran a nosedive once, had to run like 30 metres. Proudest moment of my life, although I'm very happy noone was around.
i think their electronic balance is not well made because doing a nose dive mean the electronic get his limit Spedd vs Balance and the board must chose priority to balance and brake himself the wheel to save the balance .
the Hoverboard of my son beep fastly when reaching limit speed vs Balance why not the Onewheel to prevent poeple from crash.
I once asked a motorcyclist “isn’t it dangerous?” His reply was “that’s what makes it fun.”
@@MGsModShop i read some guys have the nose dive at 50% battery at 9 miles and they don't have the nose up before .They said Samsung battery have problems they lost fastly power at 50% ,Sony battery are good ,check what's inside before buying .

Would you recommend the Onewheel for someone that has little to no prior experience with things like skateboarding?
BEWARE!
Look up summerboard
Check out surfskates as well :)
How?

You'd look a lot stupider in a full body cast, smart move!
I think one of those expanding airbag helmets but full body would be worth someone developing.
Maybe head and a ring around the upper torso ?
So many sports where it would be valuable.
I wore a wrist brace when I broke my arm from it and it actually made it worse. I will be wearing a helmet but not a wrist brace.
Man I hit a pothole going a little over 36mph and one going at 40mph on a board, shit sucks ass especially when all you're wearing is a tank top.

He was out for a few months and couldn’t wait to get back on it. I’ve ridden on it and absolutely love it. The reason he crashed was because he had a very heavy backpack and didn’t realize that the one wheel was kicking back because of the weight. It also made the crash a bit worse

They now have little wheels that you can put under the front that prevent the board from digging in during a nose dive and it works well. This should have been incorporated into the design from the start and would have prevented many injuries.
Fangs wouldn't be a thing if the board didn't have a huge design flaw

Once you get the fangs (the 2wheels on the front) your fear of crashing is not so scary. The fangs makes such a huge difference. Now I go all out with no fear of kissing the ground. Also the front nose slide is super fun. Granted you have to go into your app and go to the custom settings to activate it. But it's so much funner than I ever thought it would be.
What setting
Fangs suck. False sense of security. Get plates instead.
As a Onewheel rider who experienced a major fall recently, I’m going to say, I am EXTREMELY lucky I only got some moderate scrapes and didn’t break any bones.
I have a euc and had my first bad crash 2 days ago doing 38kph. I was wearing protective pads and body armour, only got bruises. 👍

Wow..no kidding. Amazing production.
I hope you touched some wood.
It’s the coolest dolly/motorcycle/skateboard/snowboard/gimbal hybrid out there! I use it for the same.
It seems like they need an idler wheel upfront, so when the nose dives it has the potential to roll rather than act as a break. Although you have convinced me I’ll stick to a bicycle!
They sell those! Called fangs
I was more upset about my beats flying off and getting scratched
the hardest part is when she bucks you, then you have to hop back on and ride home beaten but still thankful you didn't have to limp home, evan though you worried she will do it again
you guys like pain, and charring. personally I like riding, so I sold mine and bought a real EUC.

That is how how people should act not just not use it again.
This is why the CPSC is all over Future Motion - people like this who don’t understand basic board usage.
what you described is fighting the pushback. you were leaning forwrd, just the front footpad was higher than the back, but your weight was still in front of the wheel = you speed up
The Onewheel company just needs to update the app to include a alert when you exceed the parameters it's that simple.
Not through the app only, not everyone is going to have the app that rides, should be an onboard speaker or vibration device
It's called pushback. The board let's you know when you're going to fast

If you're pushing the limits then it's your fault. Same with not wearing a helmet

This vid was the first I ever heard of a Onewheel. My first thought a minute in was "Wow, dangerous. I wouldn't ride one." It got me watching more videos though, and long story short I bought one. I put 400 miles on the board before my first and only nosedive. My fault. I regret nothing. Funniest thing I've ever ridden and I've rode a bunch of stuff. Just remember the 3 most important rules;
1. Respect the board (it's and your limitations)
2. Safety gear
3. Don't fall!
I'd argue that the nosedive should never happen. It's a design flaw.
How was it your fault? What did you do?
@@wideopenthrottl i took it out in the winter for the first time since late summer and didn't warm up my skills. I was bundled in winter clothes and the board handled different in the cold and with less air in the tire. I came out real fast and ate it in like 3 seconds.

Fun fact: U.S. Olympic equestrian trainer Daniel Stewart, who I trained under, used a simple version of this called a "balance board" (i.e. rocker board) to also improve balance in riders.

12 - 18 miles with the XR
6 - 8 miles with the Pint
@@thelilmilkman thanks, much less than the evolve. for me that longer distance for similar money i might look further into the evolve. thank you
Evolves might take you further, but as someone whos had both the OWXR is wayy better. I put triple the miles on my XR than the evolve, in my opinion, its more fun.
Kyle Yeoman very true! It’s entirely dependent on the weight of the user, the average speed, and the terrain.

I love mine, and it has been an amazing addition to my day to day life. However, I have gone down hard like so many others. Gear up and float on.
Watch out, Future Motion might sue you for speaking truthfully.

I bought a used XR today and am using my Segway experience as a reminder.
Awesome review and product! What is the track in the action montage?
I installed "fangs" on my XR to avoid falling off. They are basically 2 little wheel on the end to take some of pressure off when the board is losing power or its trying to slow down.
