Thank you for making this video, Richard. I watched it last night and took my Pint S out today for a first real ride. My first attempt was frustrating, the leg wobble was a thing, and I was doubting my purchase. Also note that I'm a retired old man at 64. Today I took what you said about that and worked through it along with some of your other tips. I eventually got about a mile and a half ride in before my legs were done. But it was fun!! Hi there! Just wondering how your experience went! I just discovered this channel and have just bought a used Pint (not the X) a few days ago. 40 years old and about 240-245 lbs. First day took me a while to find the balance and stop the jitters. Looking way ahead and not down definitely helped. After about two dozen embarrassing attempts to mount it (and a sprained left ankle), I finally got the hang of it and rose 2.6 miles! Good luck!
Great video. I tried a friends pint for like 10 mins and it was terrifying. Same reactions, thought it would be easier. Had some time to think about it and decided to get one despite my initial experience. Thanks for showing what you went through. It’s reassuring to see how much better you became. Good luck!
The process of learning to ride a OneWheel is not at all easy like Future Motion dictates, I had a VERY hard time on it my first week of ownership. This was a great video to watch, seeing your learning process was super on point. But, once I figured out riding stance and letting the OneWheel control itself and read my body movements, I started really enjoying the riding experience. Everyone learns differently, and once you get the hang of it, the OneWheel is an absolutely awesome toy, I love my pint!
Don't worry man. The "squirrely" feeling will turn into "wow i can turn on a dime" in just a few weeks. I did the same thing. You'll get it. Don't give up.
@@RichardKohberger yeah just wait til your 50 miles in. Then 100 miles. It'll be like breathing. Still tho. Never get too comfy. These things break clavicles daily. Join the Onewheel Crash Group on FB. Every Onewheel owner should be apart of that group. It provides some much needed perspective.
@@travishamiltontattoos4635 I noticed that when my tire pressure is too low, I get severe wobbling on flat pavement/ sidewalks. Granted the XR has a tire that is more squared than the pint, I keep a closer eye on the PSI now as a result, removes some of the 'squirellyness' when there shouldn't be any :)
@@TheLionheartcartoon well usually its the opposite. Higher pressure =higher carvability because there less tire thats actually touching the ground at any given time. But i guess if the pressure was REALLY low the results would be similar. Almost a mushy kind of feel. Out of the box its supposed to be 20 psi. But I've seen tires vary greatly out of the box. I've seen 13, 23 and 27. Even saw a post where someone's was 37!.
I’ve been debating on buying a Onewheel pint for a bit now and your review pushed me over the edge to purchase one. Great job documenting the mindset of becoming familiar with the board and what to expect when learning to ride. Excellent video!
Wow it’s so good to see a “learning ____” video made by someone who knows how to film!! Normally the person not only doesn’t know how to film well, but also is trying to do it while learning the thing, resulting in a video that looks like a mobile phone went into a tornado. So full credit for that! Great shots, very informative, and actually gave me some confidence that I might be able to do it haha. Thanks again 🙏🏼🙏🏼
Welcome to the float fam Richard!! You're gonna freaking love it, and I cant wait to see more vids! I just started uploading my own ride vids to youtube, lets ride sometime!
19:44 That is the same reason I ride a motorcycle. I don't drive fast most of the time and after 30 years of riding, I still get a little weary when someone is behind me, especially when i am about to turn in a driveway or stop light. Good to hear that you are having fun trying new things is the spice of life, having it turn out well is the thing that drives you more. Great video thanks for sharing.
Good video. I really agree about the fender. Lucky for me the shop I bought from through one in for free. I'm not sure about the need for charge plug but I don't ride in dirt and water. You treat machines good and they will treat you better. The rail guards are a waste. You can use the same protective tape we use on Mt bike frames and SUP rails. Works awesome! I'm a little on the fence about the Fang thing. I bought a V1 7 yrs ago rode 1500mi and never had a nose dive. My son had a nose dive 50ft from the house? He hit hard and it scared the crap out of him. So I built front safety wheels for it out of some old roller blades...Super easy diy mod. They didn't help my sons fear but I left them on anyway. I put a Two-x battery on my V1 and even though the motor is rated 500w for the given battery voltage my ranged more than doubled. Did I mention that I weight about 250lbs LOL. I put an after market mini lighted voltmeter on it and never looked back. Never needed to carry a phone again. When the Pint came out I had to try it. Wholly crap what a cool board! I rode XR's side by side with my V1/ Two-x and in my world I couldn't feel the difference. I really wanted a new toy anyway. so bought a Pint. I just ride for the ride. I'm not a basher or a speed demon and my Mountain bike is my off road machine of choice. I bought the Pint and 3 different wore out tires later I upgraded the battery to make it a Quart. Personally I love the tighter stance of the Pint. This is a turny little machine and even at 250lbs it will go further than care to ride in one session. I'm 66 now and still 250lbs and still having a blast on my Pint. I've ridden everything and for me it's still my fav! I guess not for everyone.
The first time I rode my electric skateboard I was so horrible at it but now it’s amazing and so fun to ride! Once you learn, you are officially a pro in my opinion
At first I didn’t see the amount of subs. I thought it would be 500k, or even 1mil. And then I looked at it. This channel is the most underrated I’ve ever seen on TH-cam. Keep it up, and you’ll get there Richard.
Good day fellow floater! Your learning curve was very close to mine, even though I picked the XR. I have skateboard experience and even with it, I found learning the onewheel still required a lot of practice. But after a month of having it, I have clocked in 587 Km on it at time of writing and I don't regret it one bit. Even with the steep price. (had to get a fender, as the rocks were pooling on the pads and going in unexpected puddles would make things quite messy). Rail guards are doing their job as well, they're scuffed but take the damage instead of the aluminum frame. I often go on hour-long rides, pushing 20+km in distance just because riding that thing is just so amazing! Thanks for sharing your experience, too! Be safe and keep on floating!
This is so accurate. I'm on day 2 with mine and tried starting on grass. Turns out uneven ground is NOT the place to learn. So I've been pissing off my neighbors the last half hour riding up and down the hallway. Still get the wobbles but the hallway is tight and so are the turns, so it helps. Once my helmet arrives I'm gonna hit the parking lot. Made it up to 7 mph and feeling more comfortable. But my dismounts are less than graceful.
I really enjoyed your video. I saw it even though I have been using my onewheel pint for over a month now. I completely agree on all your points. It isn't as easy as it looks in the beginning, but once you get the hang of it , it's sooooo much fun! Your video is top quality. Keep up the good work! I subscribed and look forward to seeing more from you. Take care :)
I watched this video when I started really taking interest in getting a onewheel about a year ago and it really convinced me to get one. Thanks for everything!
Future Motion’s warranty doesn’t cover water damage, although the board is advertised as a all terrain/weather. If you read the manual it warns that your board is not water resistant and should not be operated in wet conditions.
Try deflating the tires a liitle, and trying different riding profiles. But yea the pint looks like the friendly entry board but between the smaller footpads and rounded tire it actually feels less safe to new riders. yep this is a perfect example of finish the freaking video before you comment. I love that you priced out your additional expenditures. Also if you might ride in groups, the XR or pint x, are kind of a must, pints are welcome of course but you will find yourself calling it a day way before the rest of the group, if the group plans charging breaks around the pint its not a big deal, I've found riding around with friends and family that you tend to just ride a lot and often find your self wanting a bit more.
Having considered buying a OneWheel I really enjoyed this video and the behind-the-scenes look of learning to ride one. However, since I'm over 70 I'm now thinking an electric wheelchair, clip the speed restrictions and turn it into a mall rocket with flame decals. Maybe even see if it can be made street legal with additional mods. Thanks for this introduction to what looks like a fun way to get around.
I saw one of these for the first time in Mississippi over the 4th of July and have been researching ever since. This is the first video that is the closest to my skill level. I LOVE this video
at first i thought you over-exaggerated the difficulty of learning to ride this thing, but now that i have finished my own diy onewheel, i am impressed by how quickly you learned
Bro great job on your first video! This is quality and I can really tell you put so much time in and it seems to come natural to you! Keep it up man, and I’m excited to see what you got coming for us next. 🤙🏼
Thanks! Yeah, it's a brand new channel. Gotta start somewhere. I did also get wristguards, but I tend to not wear them. They're definitely the highest friction pieces of gear to put on, especially on the wrist where I also wear a watch. Are there parks or greenways near you? That's usually where I ride.
Oh wow, I would've assumed this was a super developed TH-cam channel. With the quality of this video, it felt like the videos of people I watch with over 100k! Great work!
I'm 77, and I must be crazy, !!😅 but I just bought a Totter 2, similar to the One wheel, and if I don't end up in the hospital, I just might learn to ride this serious toy !! 😂 Great video! Great information!
thanks very much for sharing your experience of learning how to ride this fun tool. I appreciate your effort for the fact that you gave us a more real and down to earth understanding of how it actually feel when learning all the basic steps including all the struggles and failures that you've gone through which is truly helpful to those who are interested and thinking of buying and using it in the future. Great job and do keep it up. Take care and God bless:)
Thanks for the video. Most of the turning is done with the rear foot so normally people have their dominant foot on the rear like a snowboard. Right "handed" people have left foot forward. Left "handed" people are "goofy footed" with the right foot forward.
@@tonystubbs9189 it’s not really a matter of agreeing or not. It’s observing how things are. Most people who are right footed are not goofy footed. Makes sense because think about which foot you would turn with - the dominant one.
Well anyways this version makes more sense. Left footed and left handed are quite different. And you may not know a large portion of left handed people have become quite ambidextrous in this right handed world. Rightys don't notice this.
Dude, this video is exactly what I was looking for. Flawless video. Very well put together. Ordering a Pint for my son and I, just needed this confirmation. Thanks again. -Preston
A friend of mine has a Onewheel, so I thought I'd check out a video to see what they're all about. I didn't think I'd watch your whole video, but I did and found that you were informative, entertaining, and very open about your progress to learn how to ride your Onewheel. Well done!
Epic review, very nice job! Perma-dickered haha, that's a new one for me. This was very helpful and cool to see the progression from complete noob to riding confidently over a couple of months. Also helpful to think about rider size and model. I'm 200lbs so considering the larger option from your suggestion.
Thanks, sweet vid. Longtime rider tip: Create a couple Onewheel playlists and enjoy riding to your favorite tunes! I can barely ride now without good tunes.
I started with a Pint, but went to an XR after a couple weeks. Those couple extra MPH make a huge difference. I do appreciate the Pint’s sensor light and overal playfulness, but the XR is much more relaxing ride which is what I want day to day and for commuting.
I just found your video today. Looks like this video is 3 years old now. Well I was going to say, great job on the video ! You're very personable and it's almost comforting to watch an average dude learn something new, mistakes included . Thanks again and I look forward to checking your other videos. I hope they are just as good. Cheers. 😅
Great video! I don’t own a onewheel, but this really encourages me to pull the trigger. Thanks for being so candid about the learning curve struggle. Thanks for the safety tips also. And great editing!…and personality! You’re gonna go far!
for anyone with the same experience (the nose dropping when you try to move forward) - if you're riding with your right foot forward (goofy) you have to switch on goofy mode in the app
Go to settings and then board notifications. There’s an option for riding goofy. I just enabled it. I’m interested to see if it makes a difference for me. I’ve definitely had issues with the nose dipping forward like that.
Everyone I dont own one of these but was able to ride and corner in circles and come to a complete stop my first time riding. These are very intuitive. Dont take this guys struggles as a honest review of difficulty.
The quality, and effort into this video is amazing! When I first got a onewheel I had no idea about push back and completely went straight into the road shoulder first
Epic first video, I loved my pint and I love my XR now too! I’m running on about 2 and a half years and I really don’t regret any of my purchases. Keep up the good work!
Hey man... Great video...I didn't make a first ride video because I didn't want any evidence of how badly I predicted I would ride...I was amazed watching your video... It was just like what I experienced when I tried to ride a Onewheel. It was much harder to learn than I thought it would be but I'm so glad I kept practicing because now it's one of my favorite things to do. I'm right there with you when you say it's so great for a chill, relaxing way to get out of the house. Thanks for making this video!
Richard, great video. Thanks for documenting your training from zero. I enjoyed watching your video. From the start I got hooked on how detailed you explained each aspect of first owning a Onewheel. You might have been a newbie Onewheel owner but you definitely have a talent for making videos. You made me laugh and it was very cool to see your progress from watching you be respectful and having that fear of the Onewheel to then you just cruizing and becoming one with the Your Onewheel. Thanks again and your video has definetly given me a little bit of a push towards getting one myself. You earned my LIKE and SUB. Keep up the great work Richard.
I am at the end of my day one with the PintX and both myself and my wife are totally with you on your first day experience. Starting to feel better about it…just takes practice, but, I am excited to put in the work to get there!!
This cracked me up. 8 minutes in you were like, I’m getting decently good at going forward. I’m guessing it didn’t take you long to truly internalize just how off that statement was. These things are a beast, man’s will absolutely hurt you, but with injury comes ability. And SO much fun.
Change your shoes. I have 2 pair of shoes that cause my foot to not be detected consistently by the front sensor and I'm 220 lbs. Try some Vans or Converse and you will get a better fell for the board and that problem should go away
This was also my issue back when I started. Made it down right dangerous when I first started learning until I realized I needed some nice flat skate shoes, completely changed the game.
so you’re 220? is the lint still a viable option and good purchase? i’m about that much as well and strongly looking into buying one of these. if i’m too heavy for it i’m going to save for the XR. hope you see this and reply
Your early fails were as enjoyable as your later successes. I actually enjoyed this video. The devil is in the details and you were very informative in a clever cheeky sort of way. Thank you for the review.,add more content and i will sub.
Just got mine today. It’s a surf/snow board on wheels. Its pricey but awesome. It’s easier for those experienced with skate, surf or snow boards. Balance is key! Even if you move forward, you still want your head to be above the wheel and not in front and just turn with you hips like a surf/snow board. You want stand vs bending (unstable) little bend ok but too much bend board starts to shake. When you stop, slow down and come to a stop and hop off with both feet. Bottom line, Practice makes perfect. You will bust your ass but you will learn from it.
Excellent video! In the process of picking one of these up and expect your experience to be similar to mine. I am fortunate that a couple of co-workers already have the Pint X and the XR so have been able to play around here at work. Thanks for the video!
Okay you've convinced me on the padded motorcycle jacket. It's less of a hurdle to riding as far as putting on elbow pads, and it has the shoulders. Plus it can look a lot cooler. If I'm forced to ride in the sun, that's less skin that needs sunscreen, and UV rays also go through regular clothing. Then also just the general skin coverage to prevent grazes on areas that aren't like an elbow. After some research, you actually have the exact jacket I landed on. Except now they have a version 2 that I do definitely prefer. Then there's still other pads, too.

Had some time to think about it and decided to get one despite my initial experience. Thanks for showing what you went through. It’s reassuring to see how much better you became. Good luck!
Ok. So first, super impressed by the production quality. Blown away that you had
The letterkenny reference is whats i appreciates about this video
Don't worry man. The "squirrely" feeling will turn into "wow i can turn on a dime" in just a few weeks. I did the same thing. You'll get it. Don't give up.
Thanks! I get it down by the end of the video. It feels very comfortable now
@@RichardKohberger yeah just wait til your 50 miles in.
Wow....thought I was watching a channel with 100k+ subs!!! Won't be long dude...you know what you're doin!! Great video!
Thanks again 🙏🏼🙏🏼
they're a ton of fun, so intuitive, manoeuvrable , portable and no remote, way better than a skate board, love mine.
You did a good job man. I'm impressed. Good editing. You're likable. The humor was just the right amount. It felt honest and real.
I've had my Pint for about two months. Best money spent in a while. I'm about 175 miles in and loving every ride. #floatlife
Just bought it. Delivers in 5-7 days. This is going to be a long week
@@bbandt1280 how is it?
@@tuan.2.3 great
How much did you buy it for
@@SomeOne-ir5lbou can get it used for like 600 bucks ebay
This video is just so well done. This is the video that convinced me to plop down $4k for a GT-S and I love it.
Welcome to the float fam Richard!! You're gonna freaking love it, and I cant wait to see more vids!
I just started uploading my own ride vids to youtube, lets ride sometime!
The Rock to Barnes and nobles omfg 😂
I know...I LOL-ed hard at that.
Wholly crap what a cool
board!
"I'm sure holding an expensive camera is not the best way to learn." HAHAH! Excellent video, super honest and informative. Thank you!
At first I didn’t see the amount of subs. I thought it would be 500k, or even 1mil. And then I looked at it. This channel is the most underrated I’ve ever seen on TH-cam. Keep it up, and you’ll get there Richard.
I hoped right on and rolled right off was floating in about 15 mins lol love it now I'm addicted
Brought me back to learning to OW 4 years ago. Thanks for that.
Nice! Yeah, I should have gotten the rail guards from day 1. I hear people with snowboarding experience tend to pick it up faster than skateboarders.
I come back and watch this to remind myself where i started off learning how to ride mine for the first time and my progress now.🙏
Cool video. You covered all the things one needs to know about Onewheel’s for a beginner.
Good job bro🤙 aging retired military pilot, looking to get into a fun hobby - very helpful
Like this video? Then you'll love this one, where I try riding an XR for the first time! th-cam.com/video/oAjVgHYJyVw/w-d-xo.html
Totally geeked out on it! Nice
You just start going all out. I love it. 💜 Motorcycle jacket 🤣 its perfect.
Ok. So first, super impressed by the production quality. Blown away that you had
A good way to find if you ride standard or goofy foot, is to run and jump. The foot/leg you put in front is your dominate foot. Awesome channel!
Dude - proud of you. You really stuck with it ! We will keep watching 😊
While I agree with the comment about turning with the rear foot the rest really isn't accurate at all.

I love how honest this review is! 10/10 video
Thanks, sweet vid. Longtime rider tip: Create a couple Onewheel playlists and enjoy riding to your favorite tunes! I can barely ride now without good tunes.
Dude when you were describing the fangs "does it look cool? no. Is it fun? Doesn't look like it" that was a lol and immediate subscribe.
I started with a Pint, but went to an XR after a couple weeks. Those couple extra MPH make a huge difference. I do appreciate the Pint’s sensor light and overal playfulness, but the XR is much more relaxing ride which is what I want day to day and for commuting.
Very informative and engaging. Great editing as well. Good job man!
The beginning of this gives me such Bill Nye energy and I'm here for it
Best unboxing and honest review, ever. Keep up the good work.
This is VERY nice to see. I want a Onewheel one day. This is super informative!
for anyone with the same experience (the nose dropping when you try to move forward) - if you're riding with your right foot forward (goofy) you have to switch on goofy mode in the app
How do you do that?
Go to settings and then board notifications. There’s an option for riding goofy. I just enabled it. I’m interested to see if it makes a difference for me. I’ve definitely had issues with the nose dipping forward like that.
@@ingridmartin374 thank you!
We appreciate these type of vids. It’s nice to see the first steps taken. Great Vid!
The zen you get from it, is undoubtedly the same as riding a motorcycle. It can truly be peaceful
This was an amazing video. I enjoyed how you showcase how the product works right out of the box with out any cuts/editing display product works.
Everyone I dont own one of these but was able to ride and corner in circles and come to a complete stop my first time riding. These are very intuitive. Dont take this guys struggles as a honest review of difficulty.
The quality, and effort into this video is amazing! When I first got a onewheel I had no idea about push back and completely went straight into the road shoulder first
Thanks for this video. It was super informative. I'm looking at buying a one wheel and I'm glad I ran across the channel. Thanks again!
AWESOME REVIEW man this is what I wanted to see much appreciated
Thank you for the show. I had no idea what to expect and you showed the challenge perfectly. Very nice editing too. 🐜billy
Epic first video, I loved my pint and I love my XR now too! I’m running on about 2 and a half years and I really don’t regret any of my purchases. Keep up the good work!
The subtle humor in this video is *chef's kiss* lol.
I cackled when the light turned green LMFAO
This is a better review than I thought it'd be, you're totally awesome man and I love your energy
Nice video and great advice. I agree with your safety first policy. Good luck on your future videos. godspeed
Dude, I love your video, you make it fun by adding some comic comments. Keep up the god job. I just bought my Pint X and I am ready to try it out !!
Well put together. What to expect for a newbie. Looks like great fun
I am at the end of my day one with the PintX and both myself and my wife are totally with you on your first day experience. Starting to feel better about it…just takes practice, but, I am excited to put in the work to get there!!
The Glow up from min 17 to Full Blown Float Lifer at min 19 is incredible!
I had this issue while learning today. Too much cushion in your shoes is bad.
Toe shoes from Vibram 5 Fingers are the best for riding in my opinion. Its like being barefoot and you get a lot more control.
This was also my issue back when I started. Made it down right dangerous when I first started learning until I realized I needed some nice flat skate shoes, completely changed the game.
Yup flat bottom shoes make a huge difference. Can confirm
so you’re 220? is the lint still a viable option and good purchase? i’m about that much as well and strongly looking into buying one of these. if i’m too heavy for it i’m going to save for the XR. hope you see this and reply
Thanks I just got a pint x it’s about a week away from showing up. I’m so stoked to get out a. Enjoy myself ✌️❤️ Thanks for the information
Your early fails were as enjoyable as your later successes. I actually enjoyed this video. The devil is in the details and you were very informative in a clever cheeky sort of way. Thank you for the review.,add more content and i will sub.
Drill a small hole into the port protector and into the board to securely tie a string between the protector and the board, so it won’t ever get lost.
Really awesome video. Love the editing, the content, the comments on the product...well done bro!
6:08 I love the thing that you did with your fingers. Nice
Love the line about the "superiority complex".
Well said dude!
Super helpful video to watch while searching for a onewheel to purchase for my son. Thanks a bunch!
i was so confused when i saw you have less than 300 subscribers. this video is really informative and good entertaining
