    Normal horse behavior. But this is pretty funny, the way she squeals and overly dramatic hops together xD

      Yeah. I'd never seen this particular horse act like that so I thought it was hilarious. xD

      ***** I know, she's so funny! Molly was just trying to be nice, reaching out her nose and being friendly, and then Destiny just kept doing this. xD Like she'd be happy, ears forward, with her nose to Molly's nose, and then suddenly her ears would go back and she'd do this, lol. And then when they were actually in the same pasture, they greeted each other and then walked around like old friends...

    I'll be the quiet one is the top horse in that herd.

    • @HannahDestiny27
      @HannahDestiny27  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      To be honest, it's 6 years later and I'm still not entirely sure which is! After we put them together, Molly (the quiet one) seemed to be. Soon after, and now, for the most part, when I'm around, Destiny (the hoppy one) pushes Molly around and steals her food if I let her. At this point, I consider her the leader. But Molly's owner says that when they're at her place (and I'm not around), it's the opposite, and I've also seen Molly push Destiny around. And in general, they seem to challenge each other a lot. They confuse me. 😂 I'd say that if they were in a large herd, they'd probably be about at the same place within the pecking order, but since I have to stop Destiny from eating Molly's feed, I generally consider Des the boss lol. I definitely expected it to be Molly though!

    She sounds like she's just asserting her dominance and protecting her personal space. Some horses despite personalities towards humans are quite different in a herd situation. Maybe Molly is in horse language trying to challenge the other horse, or maybe Destiny just doesn't like the attention from the other horse and she's telling her to back off. In that case I wouldn't force interactions for the safety of both horses.

    • @HannahDestiny27
      @HannahDestiny27  7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes, she is. Some horses do squeal like that to assert their dominance when first meeting another horse. And Destiny has never particularly enjoyed the company of other horses; she prefers people. She gets along with other horses just fine, but she usually stays a bit apart from the herd. Molly's a more friendly type of horse, so I think Destiny could tell that and was trying to tell her to back off a bit. Once they were put together, they were just fine. They get along really well. :)

    Putting a fence between 2 horses when they first meet or using a rope is how horses get hurt. Horse owners need to stop being wimps and just let them lose in a field together right away. They will figure it out. They won't kill each other. That's the last thing those horses want to do. I hate how stupid humans always feel they need to "save" the horse. Just let them lose.

    • @HannahDestiny27
      @HannahDestiny27  7 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      In general, I agree. They certainly won't kill each other but they could hurt each other. Some horses just don't get along well with other horses -- I know of a few who are simply better off being by themselves. Molly (the one just standing there) hadn't been near another horse in years, and based off her personality, we weren't sure how she was going to handle the situation. Both horses are very respectful of the electric fence. We were more concerned about what would happen if we just threw them together. In the end, it all worked out anyway, so either way probably would have been fine to introduce them.

      I had a pony. He slipped into our new mares paddock one night during a storm after we just got her home.
      (We had no idea he could open the gate latch at the time but he managed it. He was the only one who ever managed it.)🙄 It was his cunning that brought about his undoing.
      While we were sleeping when they got into it and she broke his front leg. Maybe they would have fought through the fence but we never had a injury in 35 years going with a slow-over-the-fence introduction process. We kept the new horses apart for about a week just to be safe. What's the harm in going slow? We had a 3 step process that always worked.
      Sometimes I guess fate has a say in it.😞
      Just sharing my experience.

    please never leave halters on your horses that is extremely dangerous especially in this situation.

    • @HannahDestiny27
      @HannahDestiny27  6 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      The halters were on for their own safety, and they were well supervised for the entire duration of this meeting. Both horses are very respectful of fences. This was a very specific situation, given that the chestnut hadn't been around any horses in years and acts more like a dog than a horse - I wasn't sure if she would take any hints from my horse to keep her personal space, but they did just fine. Usually I leave halters off when the horses are loose, but in this situation we all found it best to leave them on just in case. I know lots of people who leave halters on their horses 24/7 and I don't like it, but they've never had any problems. :) I know it can be dangerous, but in this case we were all on standby if anything went wrong.

    • @connieweatherspoon7133
      @connieweatherspoon7133 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not always bad, I think tear aways are fine to leave on 24/7 just not the expensive ones that don't break easy if caught. Even if I left a halter on my horse, it's a bit big, again I change it out when walking.

  • @MustangRebel3
    @MustangRebel3 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    that is a very dangerous situation you put them in, halters on both, and a single line between them. you should have just let them sort out their hierarchy
