Can horses see color? Obviously, a light/dark difference, but do they perceive color?

I wish I had had one of these beautiful animals, I was into Pure bred Arabs, beautiful, but very hot, I was also into driving, having started when I was evacuated during WW2, and carried on until the late 80's They are so lovely for both sports, I wish I had my life over again, I should certainly have had this beautiful breed.
No fostering here. The adoption is complete, mother and child. It is a beautiful thing to see.

Neither one of them even realize they aren't natural mother and baby. They automatically assumed they were, and so they are.
I think they say foster bc they don't own Rising Star. They are temporarily taking care of him through Uniek, I think. If so, eventually, he'll need to be given back and separated from Uniek.
I think he'll only be going back to his owners in six months when it's weaning time 😊😊.
I still smile watching Uniek refusing to allow Risey more than inches away from her. The Queen is truly in love with her young Prince. ❤

I LOVE happy endings! So glad for these two, helping each other to build their lives back to happiness. So exciting to see how protective Queen Uniek is towards Rising Star. Queen is putting her new baby on a show and receives approval and congratulations from other new mums. Aaaahhh....

But that the mom also accepts the foal is not guaranteed. This is such a beautiful outcome to a tragic and sad scenario. ❤️

Yes and that mother knew her foal was switched out but she chose Joy and Love and took the new one graciously. A true Miracle indeed. Bless them. So wonderful to see and follow good and loving care for these dear God's creatures.

@@KiwiGirl1 He's got Wobblers. Hard to explain. Lack of control of his rear legs. It's not too promising but she is doing everything she can for him. He also had mud fever but I think that's pretty much taken care of. He is a beautiful big boy.

I know this happened awhile ago, but this is so sweet! Animals are amazingly resilient. Little Rising Star ✨ has the "zoomies" and it's hilarious 😆! I love how Mama kept after him while he galloped, jumped, and ran those zoomies out of his system.

Loved how when they first went out the others came rushing over to check them out - reminiscent of when someone brings a new baby into the office.
It makes me wonder if they were checking out Uniek's new colt or checking out what a strange looking Friesian he is.
They sure did as to welcome this new baby .
I was watching this again and realized something so sweet! Yvonne's fallen just as much in love with that precious little foal as Uniek! Their baby boy, Rising Star's got two more Mem's watching over him and out for him! How awesome!!
I also think it's because Queen Uniek, the herd leader, is back outside.

@@canadianbeef1958 No - Uniek's baby was stillborn. The next day, they got a call about a foal born only a few hours before Uniek's baby was, whose mom passed of colic. So, they tried putting the two together in hopes they'd be able to help each other, and it was love at first sight!
@@canadianbeef1958 The other light brown horse is Sjors, he is a gelding.But you're right, the colour and the white spots are so similar.
You folks do wonderful work with all the horses and they are so appreciative and trusting that you are doing the best for all of them. You are to be congratulated for such fine work with your horses.
Risey was so smart from a small age. He knew exactly how to follow his mummy!🥰
Its amazing the size of Uniek’s udder! I’ve had Quarter horses and Arabians but none of my mare’s udders got so large. I’m so glad you found a foal for her. My mare lost her first foal and I’ve never seen a mare grieve so bad. She called and paced for more than a week trying to find her little black colt, she was devastated by the loss.

Both horses are so lucky to have had the fast action of their caretakers and wisdom to get them together so quickly! It made a big difference in them bonding! Good timing.

Caregivers are the reason the first one didn't make it. Didn't act fast enough.

@Brendan Fraser vs The Truth It's only a joke. About how (rightfully) proud mothers are of their own babies.
They are so closely bonded: they stay so close together and Rising Star obviously trusts Unieq completely and depends on her, and she in her turn is so deeply protective and caring of Rising Star... It's as if the mother/foal bond is especially strong for this pair, and it's wonderful and beautiful to see.
I was thinking the same thing. Uniek has an incredible maternal instinct.
It just goes to show you - the bond comes from the caring. It’s not automatic. My bond with my son came as I cared for him and it grew every day. So adoptive parents can absolutely feel the same bond and love a birth parent does.
I think it’s because Uniek understands that she has been gifted this foal after losing her own, and that she has been trusted enough to mother him. Horses are extremely emotionally intelligent animals. The little one also knew that this wasn’t his mother when he first arrived, but his instinct was to nurse..I’m sure by now he was completely forgotten that anyone other than the Queen was his Mum..the bond between them is just beautiful to see.

Being an English speaker I pronounce Uniek's name 'unique' meaning - one of a kind.
The way she took possession of that helpless orphan was absolutely all she will ever need to have done in her life to qualify as a Queen; 'unique' and a credit to motherhood.
Your stable is truly blessed.
In dutch uniek means the same: one of a kind.
It means exactly the same, merely spelled differently... Have an American friend, with same spelling....

Uniek has a powerful maternal instinct. I didn’t see how she behaved with Eefje. Wonder if she was just as protective. When they join the other mothers and foals, Uniek won’t let anyone get close. Rising Star so enjoyed his romp! He had no idea what he was able to do! “Wowwee, look at me!” Glad there is more than one colt this year so that they can play together when they get older. Thank you so much, Yvonne. I hope you feel better about the loss of Uniek’s foal.

So beautiful both of them. So so happy this worked for both of them. I had a broodmare that lost her first foal to lethal white syndrome and it was gut wrenching for me and my mare who was absolutely broken hearted. I wish I could’ve done this for my mare. But I’m VERY happy for you and Uniek of course.

Those who have power and influences over the masses (media, entertainment/sports industries, politicians, tech world, corporate institutions) and the out of touch elites are that way. Hence - they project what they are onto others with their long and accusatory fingers. But these horses are a pleasure to watch.

Uniek is sooo amazing! I love how she try’s to keep her body between Rising Star and the other horses when he is close to the fence! So protective! I also do t think of this as fostering! This is a momma who just loves her baby! So beautiful!

It's interesting how close Rising Star stays to Uniek, compared to the other foals who - on their first time in the arena - tend to run off almost immediately, leaving mem to follow after them. It's like Rising Star has some memory of mama not always being there.
or maybe he is a little insecure to the fact that was without a mother for 24 hours & unlike stomach haven't recuperate as nice as the other mares. It was a traumatizing birth. Such miracle for the two to get together ...
I noticed the same thing. Similarly how VERY protective Uniek is. She keeps herself between Rising Star and the other horses like glue...almost afraid that he'll become lost somehow
Uniek is looks like a mum who'd stomp a person into the ground like a peg with her feet. To her RS is her baby and nobody can him.
I love how she guides him along with little nuzzles, as if checking in and giving encouragement. She's such an attentive mother, and baby is thriving.
Although I've seen this many times, I love to watch again for the joy of this bonding!

If anyone had any doubts before about Uniek accepting RS you can be rest assured they've accepted each other now because he's staying close to mommy and she won't let him out of her sight, this is amazing.
She is so protective of him. I've seen many many mares not nearly as careful. She follows him so closely.
She understands she got a second chance unconditional.

This is such a miracle to watch. These two are so attached and act as if nothing tragic occurred in their lives. Humans do. We adopt and foster not only other humans bit other species as well. We also nurture and take care of each other and other species.
@@Tubie1111 that is beautiful. My little sis is from Ethiopia and was adopted into the family when I was 8 (and my little brother was 4). Never felt any difference, even though adults usted to ask me that all the time (at the time I thought it was ridiculous, now just plain stupid).Love is love and it has nothing to do with blood. Rising Star’s owners must be so happy with how well Uniek is caring for their little foal. Uniek is an amazing horse - once in a lifetime mare. Somehow she knew that Rising Star was at the barn for her. She was so excited to meet him - and now the little guy is putting on weight and doing really well . Wonderful 🐴❤️🐴❤️

They will need to find a way to keep them together, seriously. I believe her heart would be forever broken if they were separated. Rising Star is her heart and soul now.
@@kookietherapy9398 She'll accept it when he's old enough. Seriously, it's adorable how they've taken to each other - she's truly accepted him as her own, and vice versa. But don't ruin it by projecting human emotions too much on animals. It's natural for young males to leave the herd to create their own when they're old enough. Once the colt is old enough to be independent, she won't dote on him so much, or be heartbroken when he leaves.
Watch a mother dog doting on her newborn puppies. Keeping them close, nursing and licking them, utterly devoted. But by 6-8 weeks, she's usually worn out, annoyed when they try to nurse, sick of being nipped, chewed on and jumped on, and ready for them to be grown!
It's a part of nature for young (in most species) to leave their parents when they're old enough to begin their own lives. It's natural for them to be so close and nurturing with a newborn (although unusual here since she adopted him) then to gradually reduce that close attention and encourage independence in their young, even drive them away from home in some species when old enough (lions do this). Don't ignore natural processes and project heartbreak onto animals for your sentimentality. That's unfair to the people and the horses involved here.

I notice she is not “slouching” (depressed in English) and RS is like ... “yea this is my mom... I love her so much!” This is just so moving ... thank you for sharing all of this Yvonne, we all know you have a lot to do and this takes a lot of your time ... just know you are loved and appreciated very very much!

Giggling at her being tender the first time the baby eats. Oh yes I remember that pain lol. Funny to think of things that are just mammal feelings. This was extremely precious. I'm sure he's a big boy now all grown. But his first days were heartwarming. She's an excellent momma.

@@TheLittledikkins I‘m not sure if Uniek knows what English speaking humans call them. In German we call the color „Fuchs“, meaning „fox“.
I simply wanted to point out, that everybody around seems to be black, when she first saw her foal it looked black, then it vanished, came back in red, only to stick out like a sore thumb now.
@@petersiliekrause2203 It is the color of a red fox, and I doubt if the horses much care. That mare is a magnificent animal, I hope her next foal is born easily and very healthy.

My husband is going thru dyalsis and he watches these videos over and over said it makes it a little more tolerable to go thru! Ty

RS was so shy and sticking close to her side going out. But a few minutes in the wide world, he was able to confidently walk in like he owns the place. Little Prince of the stable.😁
I do love how Rising🌟Star checks everything he sees... Without acting fearful! ( Looks, sniffs... ok, no worries!)

It’s interesting to watch Uniek protect Rising Star as the herd and foals approach. She keeps looking around, putting her body between him and the other horses - she doesn’t trust the fence! - and moving him away. A great mother. RS learned very fast to stay close to her.

I so agree. First thing I do when I turn my computer on is go to youtube, look for Friesian Horse videos and then look for Uniek and Rising Star. I apologize to all you other Friesian horses, and Johnny, I look for you also.

I love how the other horses came running over, then hung around to get to know and socialize with mother and baby. So far so good.

So cute that Rising Star was feeling his legs and getting Mama to move around in the process. They are truly bonded and such a beautiful pair! So lucky that it worked out that they could end up together after each of their tragic losses. I love horses!
