Every fan base has some clowns that give the fan base as a whole a black eye, but just like any other fan base, if they are winning they get carried away with themselves and if they lose a game (when they don't usually lose many) they will usually look for an outside cause first. If you don't talk crap to them for winning they won't be jackasses to you. If you can present a logical argument against the outside cause that they are holding on to, they most likely will settle down and be able to accept the loss in a reasonable manner, but if you just poke the bear you will end up getting what you were trying to get. This analysis applies to any Top tier fan base.. Clemson fans are the exception to this rule, as they have only been top tier for a very short period of time, and are already sliding back to the next tier down, but will still talk more crap for absolutely no reason other than to hear themselves talk.

60 plus years old here. have spent 20 adult years on west coast and 20 years on east coast as a high school coach. I read the comments and they are definitely geographically impacted with the largest populations in the east, it’s easy to see why you had responses as you did, but if you look at the contempt for a team region by region, there is no team disliked in a single region as Oregon.
Long before NIL, it was stated “Oregon recruits like the SEC.” Everybody knew what that meant. Cal-Berkeley did not pay players to play for the Bears. UCLA did not go out and buy players. Washington got in trouble for placing a fruit basket in a recruit’s motel room. Yet, Phil Knight and Oregon were caught red handed paying $25,000 to a handler. It is well known one of their most known edge players signed out of high school for $250,000. The night before signing day Oregon gets a running back to flip. No big deal, but the RB already had a USC tattoo on his arm - but nothing $50k couldn’t take care of. In the the SEC, that was an every day reality. But, that’s not the way the game was played on the west coast.
I stood in the UNC weight room in Chapel Hill when the #1 rated DE was being showed around. I asked one of the coaches, “Do you have a chance?” He responded, “Oh, hell no! We can’t afford him” And this was during the Butch Davis years! He signed with Tennessee - gold cheating SEC. So, we all know SEC has been doing it for years.
It wasn’t so much that Oregon got caught, it was their reaction. In the past, when programs were busted (ASU, UW, USC) school administrators stepped in and cooperated with the NCAA - because that is what they were suppose to do. Oregon changed the game. Phil Knight went out, hired the best attorneys, and fought every allegation every step of the way. Phil Knight wanted a National Championship and has shown he is willing to pay.
That’s the beauty of it all…. They haven’t won $#’%. Bo and 3!
…and their fans live in complete oblivion to what what everybody else knows.
NIL is legal now. But, make no mistake, the Big10 fans will soon learn what Oregon is about and in your list of hated schools, watch for the rise of Oregon.

    Michigan vs Everybody
I've been going to Michigan games since I was a wee child (every home game from 1969 to 2009 if you're counting). It's not just the 2023 season and it's not the ridiculous "cheating" and it's not even Harbaugh. People - and not only OSU and Notre Dame - have *always* hated Michigan. As I recall, Ohio State got penalized in 2017 for scheduling a home and home with Top 5 Oklahoma, while Alabama played the almighty Mercer........
Your list is fair, but #1 is Texas and its just not close. If your not from the south/midwest youre not gonna understand this but UT has 1000X the baggage of any other program.
Of your list - how many of the teams appealed to a state governor to prevent a team they played with 40 YEARS from joining their conference, and then spend the next 20 years constantly denying them to get into your conference despite the fact they paid the fees and all other members of conference wanted them in the conference. UT has done this to 2 different programs.
Of your list - how of many of the teams forces out teams of their conference because they sick and tired of dealing with the bs of the listed team? Texas is directly responsible for 2 teams leaving the SWC and 5 teams leaving the B12......
This doesnt even get into the fact that Texas 1. snitched on SMU, 2. demanded the NCAA take harsher action to force them into the death penalty - NOBODY has been that petty on the list....

Used to play Texas year over year in conference baseball. One year they were soundly beaten by a championship-level team and bitched the entire time that the games were too cold to be played. It's almost like home field gives home field advantage. Then they got into the Big 12's ear and had the scheduling changed going forward so they didn't have to play in the cold as often any more. Shit like that, changing the rules to your advantage, is why I hate Texas. Already have every advantage under the sun and still need to stack the deck and make under-handed moves for personal gain.

Actually it's from decades of the media enforcing the rule that similar accomplishments in the Big 10 and Pac 10 counted for more than those in the SEC. Your animus to the SEC for the last 15 years is precisely why so many southerners resented the Big10 and Pac10 for decades. The shoe's been on the other foot recently and look at the fits it has caused. Southerners are very much enjoying that 😆
As a Georgia alum and fan, let me assure you that the AP poll and the national sports media lived in infamy (not quite "remember the Alamo" but not too dissimilar) since the 40s when these two things happened:
In 1942 the AP selected Ohio State as the national champion with their best win being an upset of #4 Michigan and their loss coming to ; they went 9-1 and did not play in a bowl game. Georgia went 10-1 in the regular season, the best win being the upset of #2 Georgia Tech and beat #13 UCLA in the Rose Bowl. Georgia halfback Frank Sinkwich also led the nation with 2,187 yards of total offense (including 1,392 passing yards), making him the first major-college player to tally more than 2,000 yards in a season.
In 1946 Notre Dame was selected by AP as the national champion after going 8-0-1, tying #1 Army, with their best win being over #6 USC; Georgia was 11-0 with their best regular season win being #7 Georgia Tech and then #9 North Carolina in the Sugar Bowl.
My advice - similar to that offered by fans of the Big 10 when I was a student is, "we're better, get over it."

      1. Can't stand the arrogant refusal to join a conference and face 13 games like every other championship caliber team. ND gets kid gloves compared to everyone else.
      2. Can't stand the obnoxious "THE Ohio State" trailer park trash fanbase
      3. Don't like cheating or the favoritism provided by AP writers and Heisman voters borne out of Big10 journalism schools like Michigan (see snub of Peyton Manning and Hendon Hooker)
      4. Los Angeles is a cesspool of humanity, nothing admirable comes out of that forsaken city
      5. Perhaps the most entitled program in the country, responsible for ruining not just the Big12, but the SEC and all of conference alignment with their entitled greed.
There are legitimate reasons for any objective person to see all of these programs as detestable outside of childish "not southern teams = bad"
Edit: Penn State is not reviled in the south, certainly not near the same level. Oregon is not hated in the south. Washington is not hated in the south. Plenty of other programs in the south are hated internally far more than your average non-southern team. The teams you listed are singled out for good reason, not because of their geography.

      1. Notre Dame's Regular season schedule over the past two seasons has been harder then Georgia's, not playing 13 games doesn't negate being good, especially when a certain southern confrence only plays 8 confrance games and has a week in the middle of the season nicknamed cupcake week.
      2. Your really gonna call Ohio State a trailer park fan base when schools like, Alabama, Auburn, and Tennessee (the trashiest fan base in sports) exist. That's rich.
      3. You act like southern teams aren't far more guilty of cheating over the past 50 years. You also act like southern teams aren't the most guilty of letting players and staff get away with blatently immoral actions, and you also speak like there isn't a significant SEC bias in the media, especially ESPN.
      4. You didn't even address anything football related, but the same can largely be said about Miami, Baton Rouge/New Orleans, most of the State of Mississippi, and Austin (aka little LA or Hippie City).
      5. I agree with a lot of what you said about Texas, but it is the failures of the BIG 12 that led to the current state of confrence re-alignment, you can't blame Texas and OU for wanting more money when Vandy and Northwestern were making tens of millions of dollars per year more.
You mean that the non historically good teams aren't strongly disliked in the south, it's almost like those teams aren't as historically relavent. If Oregon wins a natty or two over the next ten years and goes on an Ohio State like run of consistently being good they will be just as hated as the non southern blue bloods. Also, you are a fool if you thought that Hendon Hooker deserved the heisman.

      This is fun, eh?
      1. Yes, Georgia's very recent schedules have been pathetic, and are likely the reason they were kept out of the playoff this year, despite being probably the best team in the sport. They had no wiggle room for error and shit the bed against Bama.
That besides, the last two seasons are not an accurate survey of general trends. The last time ND made it to the national championship, they did so with a pathetic schedule and media favoritism shoving them into the game. They barely squeaked by mediocre Purdue, went to OT against Stanford, squeaked by another unranked BYU, same squeak in OT against unranked Pittsburgh, and, LIKE EVERY SEASON, didn't have to play an elite opponent at the end of the season when everyone is reeling with injuries. Then, they got utterly mopped off the field by the 2nd quarter, proving they had no right to be there, but because "12-0 Notre Dame + media darling = worthy BCS team" they got a shot they didn't deserve against Bama.
They have proceeded to get embarrassed in the playoff ever since, further proving their unworthiness.
      2. Yes, I am. Being southern is not a condemnation of trashiness. The need to spout 'THE" every time those fans and players introduce themselves far supersedes any trashy behavior by southern fanbases. Not to mention the childish aggression OSU fans have demonstrated on camera after losing the only meaningful game they play each regular season.
I have seen multiple, hated rival fanbases be welcomed as friends into southern tailgates before games. The same courtesy cannot be said of Buckeye events. OSU is full of hostile assholes, and proud of it.
      3. The cheating among the south is probably a fair point, but likely not unique, and if the NCAA hasn't put the hammer down, that's the fault of governing bodies to be fair. Corruption has no regard for geography.
As for media bias, any bias afforded to the SEC is earned bias. It has objectively been the most talented conference for a generation now. It's not bias, it's just objective truth. It's like saying the 100m Olympic sprint is biased towards Americans and Jamaicans. Any unfair bias is afforded to Big10 and Notre Dame to compensate, because that's where a disproportionate amount of sports media originate. The trophy cases don't lie and don't have bias.
      4. I don't consider Miami, Louisiana, Mississippi, or Austin to be part of the United States, much less college football. They're either colonies of France, California, Cuba, or Liberia. Bias against USC has nothing to do with its team, fans, or past success, and everything to do with the culture in which it originates.
      5. This opens a can of worms where my idea of (4) 16-team conferences comes into play. I don't blame Texas and OU for wanting greener pastures, but their impatience to get there ruined the sport. They could have stayed where they were, pushed to realign the conferences into something that made regional sense, were symmetric, and which produced a fantastic entertainment product. The likes of Vandy, Northwestern, and Rutgers should be booted out of the conversation, for sure.
Disagree about Oregon becoming hated if they win a bunch. They'll be seen as a shiny new anomaly. Penn State has historically been very successful, and Oregon to a lesser degree. But those two programs haven't made it their mission to hate the south at every chance. They aren't filled with arrogant blowhards who hate the south for being the south, and think they're holier than thou because they come from outside the conference. The likes of Notre Dame, Ohio State, and, to a much lesser degree, Michigan are filled with such people.

as a bi-coastal New Yorker, it's good for the sport to have Ohio State, Michigan, Penn State, USC and Notre Dame (Midwest/East coast/LA) be elite and in the playoffs. College sports is very regional, it's not as popular in the big cities on the coasts unless their local teams are doing well and those are most of the eyes in the country, not in Alabama, South Carolina or Georgia. Alabama has never been as eltie and popular in it's history as it's been under Saban, yet you'll never see a local Karen/Joe in any of the northern/western/eastern states wear Alabama gear (unfortunately that's also a large part due to their history as a state, not the football team). You'll be hard pressed to find local tri - state peeps as die hard Orange or Scarlet Knights fans, they have historically rooted/watched Notre Dame, Penn State, Michigan or even Ohio State. SEC teams are not a thing up here and never will be and the CFP could be even bigger if those teams were in the hunt every year like a Bama or Georgia , etc... it's not about the dies hards, it's about the casual fans getting on board, (see the Taylor Swift effect).

Ever since Woody Hayes was hired in 1951 they're the only large brand in the sport I believe that's never had a several year period of mediocrity or just being plain bad. Even Alabama was mediocre to bad from '01-'07. Ohio St has had down years for sure, but they've only been limited to that one year. They're seemingly always really good and in the mix. They're fan base has never had to suffer a prolonged period of mediocrity and I think a lot of other fans resent them for that.
