      Those were the days! Cables that you could plug in and use in either direction, and those good 3 holes on the back, device to device.

    MIDI enthusiasts of the world in 2024, unite! Great video. I also am part of the club where I made a video of my MIDI setup and even recently designed a cheap 3x3 and 2x2 switch based selectors for sale mainly targeted at vintage PC (and Mac and other) gamers that need their games to send off midi to Roland mt-32, sound canvases or others. I'll recommend your video as a great crash course on midi

    I still have an Opcode Studio 5LX. 512 MIDI chains iirc. Won’t be using my G3, G4 or G5 to wire it up.

    This has been really helpful as I look to refine my setup. Love to see someone using Sparkle, I think it is the most underrated drum controller out there. I too am an Arturia fanboy: minibrute, mini freak, Polybrute, audiofuse, and audiofuse 8Pre, & SparkLe. 😁

    Hello, great video to help the use of MIDI connections. It’s very helpfull for me. One question : how do you plug FCB1010 OUT to 2 MIDI IN in your diagram ?
    Kind regards

      @@Chris87videos Hi - it’s a Midi Y splitter cable like this:
      amzn.eu/d/7z6xIf2.
      It allows me to connect the midi out from the Fcb1010 to both the midi merge box and also back into the audio interface. The only real reason to split it was everytime I wanted to program the fcb1010 with software editors I had to go under the desk and unplug it from the merge box and into the audio interface so it could communicate with the pc (as the fcb1010 doesn’t have usb at all and the audio interface acts as a midi interface) now thought it’s all permanently plumbed in 🙂. Hope that answers it. Cheers.

    I have a lot fewer devices and have really never figured out how to get them to cooperate. Each device has its own midi options which can be confusing. The biggest problem for me has always been the start/stop commands. Starting a sequence on one device will start another, and I don't want it to

    • @splootyvision
      @splootyvision  4 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +1

      @@DanJanTube Hi - yep it can be a bit of a minefield working it all out. Most devices will have their own options/menus where you can enable /disable things like start and stop. For example on my Polybrute there is a sync setting where I can turn on or off whether it receives transport commands. With it on, when I start my drum machine the sequencer automatically starts on the polybrute, but with it set to off they act independently. Depends on what gear you have but the settings will be in there somewhere. Hope that helps 🙂

    Very good video, as I see you understand a lot, let's see if you can help me, I have problems with my Yamaha modx and the laptop, I use vst live from steinberg with kontack, the fact is that my keyboard stays hanging or it changes sounds, it is receiving midi data that doesn't stop, thank you, can you help me or not, I use a translator, I don't know if it will be understood, I'm from Spain.

    • @splootyvision
      @splootyvision  วันที่ผ่านมา +1

      Hi - seems an odd one, but have heard of these sorts of issues. I don't have VST live or Kontakt, so not really sure how they work together. But, for the hanging notes it seems that 'note off' values aren't being sent/received properly - so its triggering a sound, but when the note is released it's not recognising the Note Off message to tell it to stop playing that note. In terms of changing sounds this would possibly be that a Program Change (PC message) is somehow being sent telling to change patches/sounds. Tbh there's probably many things that could be causing this. The first thing, if not already done, would be ensuring that all the latest versions of vst live, kontakt etc are installed, latest firmware updated on MODX and any other things like USB drivers etc are up to date. Next would be whether it's a dodgy USB/MIDI cable so worth swapping to different ones to see if issue still persists. The only only other thing can suggest is there is an application called MIDI-OX which you can use to show what's going on with the MIDI and investigate/troubleshoot MIDI issues. (not sure if VST live or kontakt have facility for this). With MIDI-OX you can see all the MIDI messages that are being sent in real time and so possibly workout exactly what's triggering the issue/s. There's a short article on MIDI-OX here:
      www.sweetwater.com/sweetcare/articles/how-do-i-install-and-use-midi-ox-for-windows/
      Hope that all helps. Cheers 🙂

    Maybe I’ve missed something. I’ve been running midi set ups since 1992, and I can’t work out why you have the Pro 1 sending maid back to the Keystep 37.

    • @splootyvision
      @splootyvision  21 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา +3

      Hi - it’s effectively so that I can play the Keystep using other keyboards with more keys and take advantage of some of its functions like the chord and strum modes or its sequencer but using a larger keyboard (like the 61 keys on the Keylab or the 88 on the MODX) For example I have the receive channel on the Keystep set to to Channel 6. If I set the Keylab to send on channel 6, it will trigger the Keystep which in turn will trigger whatever it’s send channel is set to - so I basically get a Keystep 61 or if I trigger it via the MODX, a Keystep88 ! Just adds a bit of flexibility e.g. allows to play in sequences that fall outside the 37 key range without having to transpose the keys up and down. Hope that made sense 🙂
