    Thanks! Taking off the faucet and cleaning off the o-ring and the seat for it fixed the issue. A tip for anyone having trouble using the channel locks to remove the faucet: instead of using a rag, try using one of those rubber jar opener pads. The faucet we have used a plastic cover and if i squeezed any harder it would break. The pad worked like a charm!

      @ to you first question, it’s difficult to be certain without actually looking at it, but I’m going to assume yes as well. I would not use Vaseline because it’s a petroleum product and can deteriorate the o-rings. It’s well worth having some plumber’s grease on hand, as this isn’t likely the only time you’ll need it.

    Thanks, Joe! Our Delta faucet manual parts breakout diagram showed two O-rings at the bottom of the spout, but when we took ours off, we only found one in the depression at the bottom and one in a depression up near the top of the neck. We tried it the way the manual showed. The upper O-ring didn't fit very well next to the lower O-ring, and sure enough it tore apart when we tried to put the spout back on. We tried it the way we found it with the second O-ring placed up in the high depression, and that did the trick. We did have to work a bit harder to get the spout off and get then get the spout back down than yours, but that may have been due to the two O-rings. Thanks again!

    Thanks for the great video. Delta folks didn't quite understand my questioning as to what the part was called or even if it was a delta faucet. Pictures were sent and they indicated that it didn't look lke their faucet. After several emails back and forth, they decided to send me a single "O" ring that they hoped would help. They also sent me a link to a you tube video that showed how to replace the O ring but, that was for a different faucet. They were gracious enough to send me the O ring at no cost which was nice of them. As a side note the O ring on their site was listed at .........$ 6.45 + shopping.

    • @papajoeknows8355
      @papajoeknows8355  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Kind of them to send you that O-ring, at $6 they’re pretty proud of that thing lol. I’ve got a kit with tons of them that I bought years ago, and I don’t think it cost much more than that. And I know they’re probably doing the best they can on the phone. Hopefully between them and the video you’ll be able to get it taken care of. 👍🏻

    Thank you! I am going to fix my mother-in-law's sink. We have a small-town hardware store here, & I'm certain the owner can advise me as to which o-rings I need.

      Absolutely, just bring the o-ring in, and they can easily match it up. Be sure to grab some plumber’s grease as well. You’ve got this. 👌🏻

    • @papajoeknows8355
      @papajoeknows8355  ปีที่แล้ว

      Tempting as it is to re grease it and put it back (and it may work for a while), it’s always best to replace it… they can be worn, almost imperceptibly, or have the tiniest nick that causes them to leak. And the truth is, everyone needs an assorted little box of O-rings in the garage that you know you have but can’t find.

    Check this first: In my case, I thought it was the base that was leaking, but luckily looked closely with a flashlight and turns out the irrigator (spout) was clogged up causing a leak down the stem to the base. Just had to unscrew irrigator and clean. No more leak.

  • @tizianacarroll2229

    @Papa Joe Knows, thanks for the video / I have replaced the O ring as instructed but I still have a leak 😢/ any suggestions on what could possibly be wrong? My leak appears to come from the same location and I have successfully lubed and reinstalled the fitting.

    • @papajoeknows8355
      @papajoeknows8355  ปีที่แล้ว

      I would replace one more time… replace the o-ring again. Be sure to use plumber’s grease and not Vaseline or something like that. Also when you push the spout back down in place, be very careful that it is perfectly vertical… if it’s a little off, it can wind up pinching the o-ring just enough to cause it to still leak. Beyond that, it may simply be time to replace the faucet itself. Keep me posted.

    • @papajoeknows8355
      @papajoeknows8355  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I’ve had some luck in the past wrapping the collar with a hot wet hand towel, then trying again. I’ve sometimes done this repeatedly with very hot water. The idea is to heat up the metal so that it expands enough for you to get it to break free.

      @@dla872 It’s a Delta faucet, I don’t know the model, but that doesn’t matter… you always want to take the cartridge up to your home improvement store to match it up. FYI, the leak is USUALLY the one on the left side, because that’s the hot side, which gets used most often. Here’s a link to a video on a Delta cartridge replacement (it’s a bathroom sink, but the change out is still the same. Again, very very simple to do.

      @@dla872 when we push the gooseneck back in place, we have to use some force to do it… it’s possible that you slightly damaged or even displaced the new O-ring somewhat. It’s also possible that the new O-ring may have had a tiny defect. I would just replace it again, use plenty of plumber’s grease, and try to get it as “vertical” as possible before forcing it back into place.
