  • The 2014 Jaguar XJ L Portfolio review with 100k miles. This review will be an interesting look on the Jaguar XJ 100k miles later. I have previously driven a 2016 Jaguar XJ L also a Portfolio model with the 3.0l supercharged V6 engine. The Jaguar XJ is full size luxury sedan I quite like due to its nimble driving characteristics for its size.

I've owned 3 Jaguars, a 1996 XJ6, 2006 XJL and now a 2011 XJL Supercharged and loved them all. I still own the 2011 XJL Supercharged.
All of them had the smoothest ride quality and the luxuriousness of the 2011 XJL Supercharged is second to none.
I've been in the BMW 750 and the large body Mercedes and they both didn't compare to the 2011 XJL Supercharged.
I can admit that repairs on these can get a bit pricey, however, if you find the right mechanic (outside of the dealer), it's worth it.
I feel and look like a million bucks (after taxes), when I'm behind the wheel....Jay Z wish he were me!!!
I have the 8 cylinder engine with the supercharger and it will flat out FLY!!!
    I LOVE JAGUARS!!!!..ever since I was 14...49 now.

The XJL, just like the Audi A7, Mercedes S class, and Lexus LS, is another one of those vehicles that announce loudly that you have made it in life. Probably the best preowned value as well, as far as premium luxury brands are concerned. Providing reliability holds up.

A 10 year old car and Lexus is replacing my dash, glovebox door, leather console, trim around the whole dash and all four door panels for free. All because my drivers door is cracking on the arm rest. That's amazing to me. I'm now a lifetime Lexus fan. No other car company would think of doing that to a 10 year old car.

The 5 litre versions of these things gi through motors too often. I believe it's a timing chain fault that leads to motor jumping timing and components crashing into each other.
But man oh man, I do love these things. I have a 17 Fpace Rsport 25t, bought it new, has 60k kms on it, Canadian winters etc. Been very very reliable. Only fault it had was losing coolant, and that was a 1 day free fix. The cooler was leaking or something.
Honestly I see a few XJL portfolio 5L V8 cars on sale around my area. One has 200k kms on it, super mint condition but blown motor. Asking 5.5k.
It's so tempting to source a motor, swap it in & have a minty jag for less than 10k all in. Decisions.... decisions....... 🙈

I own a 2004 Jaguar XJ8. I love it. Even some of the gutsy Mercedes cars built from the late 90's-on that would get my eye, even if they're a little faster (like my dad's '03 E500), I have no regrets about choosing my Jaguar over any one of them. And 7-Series BMWs from 2002-on I've never cared for, good thing because I've heard too many of them are problematic. I've enjoyed sharing my experience with my Jag with views who had MBs that have had been nothing but problematic until they replaced them with a Lexus. Every one of them said that I basically should have my head re-examined for going to a Jag. It doesn't surprise me. But it somehow doesn't really bother me either. They've had good reliability from 2003-on, at least a majority of them including S-Types. I've talked to owners of them. To me, the Jags from the late 90's up to about 2009 have been about the only car that could ever replace any nice old '77-'85 mid-size Mercedes Diesel sedan, a different company from a different country (England). I wouldn't give an Indian co. like Ta Ta any credit for actually making the Jags any better. Just because they had ownership doesn't mean they had anything to do with Jaguar directly. Jaguar would still say "your not putting any of that sh** on our stuff" to whoever had ownership of them such as Ta Ta.

Hello, I have a 2013 XJL Jaguar 3.0 AWD, Luna Grey (Maine). Let's get the negatives out of the way; My CD player cannot eject the disc. I have a low Coolant warning that is false. Now on to what I love about it, you're surrounded by leather and wood; When I see these new cars, there's a lot of plastic. Another thing, the 'Dynamic' mode really helps the car get up quickly, especially on ramps. Heating and cooling on all 4 seats. Also rare, there are very low numbers of Jaguars on the road in Maine, I take care of my car better than my Condo. Oil changes, interior cleaning, Car wash 3 times a month at least. I love my Jaguar. It's not appealing to everyone, but it reflects my personality well.

You should see what the REAL issue is before using additives. That is why Superchargers are crap, they always have issues. See what the real issue is or just replace it, or if you dont want to spend the money buy a repair kit for it. Its usually the pulley that creates that issue you are talking about.

Don't be fooled Guys , even in best case scenario these are still very expensive to maintain even if you're doing the work yourself.... due to plastic coolant system parts there is no way in hell you're getting to 100k without doing the Coolant outlet pipes , water pump , thermostat and rear coolant manifold...(requires removal of supercharger) . Upper timing covers are prone to leaking, headliners sag, rubber buttons get really, sticky both engine mounts and trans mount go bad and leak. Hard resets are your best friend for odd interior electrical issues. Not a good vehicle for first time DIY mechanics,
Beautiful when found in great condition but could very easily be a nightmare on a budget.. Good luck! 🤘

The sound quality in this car is amazing - better than Burmester, Mark Levinson or Bose. (2) XJ's 8 speed transmission has I think one of the best gear ratios. It revs at 1900 rpm when cruising at 90 mph. Because of this reason, gas milage is pretty impressive at high speeds.

It occure when the car is cold by coming and disappearing time to time, but after 30 min driving this fault never show up again.
I controled the height between the ground and the body in the axe of the wheel, on both rear wheels, i get 73.7cm on the left one, and 74.5cm on the right one (when the car is cold).
Does anyone know what is the cause? I fear to go to the Jaguar dealer because i know they're insanely pricey.

Its a crappy computer glitch, unless you are experiencing actual handling issues I would just ignore the fault. A lot of the times they are just false alarms, but have someone who specializes in Jags check it out just to make sure if you are concerned. Realistically though you could end up replacing a bunch of stuff and still have fault alarm.

I think the 2015 models onwards had different switchgear and the button coatings issue was solved. It’s not a problem unique to the Jaguar though I’ve heard the same problem on some BMW models that used the same coating. Reliability wise they are pretty good as long as they are looked after. There was an odd problem with the sunroof guides rusting, which was also solved on the 2015 cars. The metalwork is now covered by a nylon coating. Stops the guides from rubbing away the paint and exposing bare metal underneath.

Its around 64k miles in total now.. With my budget there is nothing out there that comes remotely close in terms of sheer grunt and top draw luxury.. This one is a keeper :)

That’s incredible so glad to hear it. No need for a track really enjoy crushing the rest of the pedestrians with all that power 😂 I’ve heard Jaguar V8s can take a lot of power and that their standard 550 is actually a low rating for it. Def a lot of grunt and very unique feel compared to German rivals. Thanks for stopping by my friend

The newer jags are fairly reliable. Obviously not like a Toyota but they are pretty reliable and look much better than a Toyota

I had an 03 S Type V8 it was one of the best cars I have ever owned. It never gave me any problems at all. At 15 year's old and 157k miles I sold it and bought a 2012 XF Supercharged V8 Portfolio Edition. It was the worst car I've ever had! I spent thousands of dollars for repairs on the car. Water pump, fuel pump twice, $2,000+ for a computer and then at 84k miles it blew a head gasket. I wouldn't have or recommend a Jaguar to any one! The new "Piano Black" interior is Tatas fancy word for Cheap Plastic! Tata has cheapened out on all the quality parts. They have become nothing more than a Tata in Jag drag!
Avoid Jaguar like the Plague! It will kill your bank account quickly!

👌🏾🔥💎Great videos! You Need to drive a Jag with a V8 supercharger! Hey PLEASE test a Jaguar XFR 2012 or 2013 fast lift model or even the 2010-11 XFR. ALL years have the 510 HP (550 for the XFR-S same engine different tune) 0-60 in 4.2 seconds can run up to 189 mph with this engine out the box(limited at 155 )…
With a simple KN air filter(NOT INTAKE just filter), ECU tune, TCU tune and pulley upgrade it’s a 630-650 HP car..! And you’re blasting 0-60 in the 3.7 seconds range & the 1/4 mile in 11.6 seconds or better!
The 2010-2012 have the ZF 6 speed auto transmission and the 2013 and up have the 8 speed ZF auto transmission. Both are amazing…
If you can’t find the XFR at least test a V8 supercharged XJ. I’ve seen the v6 test and it’s a totally different beast with the 8cyl..! It has the same engine and similar times the XFR is a bit better in handling because of the size…
