  • We got our hands on a 118k mile, 2013 Jaguar XJL AWD 3.0 Supercharged, to go in depth on depreciation, maintenance costs and overall drivability. With the current market price on this Jaguar, now being less than a used Honda Civic, we go over why this car probably isn't the best option in the used car market.

I have the 3.0ltr supercharged portfolio, I bought it on 16,000 miles at 10 years old. The price new was £67,500 and I paid £19,000. It had been garaged all its life and serviced on average every 2000 miles. It's basically a new car.
I've now done 6,000 miles in it in 9 months, and it's been flawless. It was serviced at 16,000 when I bought it, I had it serviced again at 19,000 with a gearbox service and again at 22,000. Servicing is about £350 on average all in. The gearbox service was about £300.
I'm about to get the subframes undersealed because of dissimilar metals. That's £186. When you buy a car like this you are buying something that requires scrupulous maintenance, but if you do the maintenance, the chances of you being landed with a big bill out of the blue are drastically reduced. Realistically, you should budget for around £1000 per year on maintenance.
Oh, and you can switch the AC off by pressing the big centre button marked AC.
If you do buy one of these cars, I warn you, you will fall in love with it. It truly is grace, pace, and space.

A good review from two young men who are really talking sense about the cost of running not only buying a top marque . Well done lads from an older guy

I've owned one here in the UK for 5+ Years. Paid £12500 for it, worth about £7000 now. I think this is acceptable depreciation, particularly as I have put 80k miles on it., Cars in the UK are generally cheaper to begin with also. The one you are reviewing must have had a front-end prang at some point, as the panel gaps are way too large, much larger than mine! Jaguars always depreciate, which makes them an excellent used purchase!
Really surprised you highlighted cost of brakes and tyres, no more than any other vehicle I have driven... Helps of course if you can do it yourself, which I do.
In my 5 years of ownership - suspension ride height sensor, a cracked screen, and a couple of buckled wheels. Nothing else, other than the normal service costs (brake pads, rotors, oil, filters, etc).
Love the thing and very reliable.

I own a 2013 X351 XJ 3 litre turbo diesel here in Northern Ireland (UK) and the running costs are in line with my other car a W212 Mercedes Benz E350. The costs you are referring to must be Jaguar prices, as I've just paid £198 for two front tyres 20" at that and a little more for the rears, which are larger. And on a motorway (freeway) run here at the speed limit I'm seeing at or over 50 (imperial) miles per gallon. And I know they do sell the diesels in North America so go source one of those and make it your daily drive. You will never look back!!

It's supercharged, but it's not an XJL Supercharged as the title suggests. It's an XJL portfolio. All V6 Jags came standard with a supercharger sold in North America. The naturally aspirated V8 was dropped early on and the V6 became standard. The Supercharged trim and the R (not R sport) trim have V8's. All other trims have the V6.

Which would you recommend for reliability? Obviously everyone wants the V8, but in terms of reliability, which one is better? And what year of XJ is the best? I’m looking at getting one with a full aftermarket warranty. I have chronic pain and comfort is everything. I’m finding that even Mercedes doesn’t make cars as comfortable as they used to.

The cam chain need exchange at just over 100,000 miles and usually the water pump has issues and should be changed. And you should make sure the automatic gearbox oil is changed. Can you not get snow socks that size i would have thought you could

You don't buy a Jag if you can't afford the petrol or the repairs, stick to your budget cars, Jags are built for customers that can afford them! hence the price tag, and those depreciation figures are inflated

ain't that the truth ! If ya have to ask "how much ? " ya shouldn't go there . (last week -Chevron Premium plus 94 octane $2.12 / litre ) . that said ,I grin every time i get in it .

@@mikeboate208 by that logic you also shouldn’t know how much gas costs..
That logic is such a bs lol those cars are now quite cheap, majority of depreciation happened already, ofc maintenance and millage matters to an extent…
If you bought it new, yes, depreciation will be so big that it doesn’t really matter that much..

So, with the tyres part. What I did was buy a spare set of wheels well before I needed a new tyre. This means that I had 4 spares that I could top up as I can. However, I'm dreading if the air suspension goes lol 😂

The trim is anodized aluminum, not chrome or brushed anything. Very common these days.

I found a used 2013 jaguar xjl 5.0 supercharged with less than 10K miles on it and in a NEW condition. never driven on the road, only inside a camp. How much maintenance cost should i expect annually?

Wow, that’s an amazing find! Congrats! I’d just get an aftermarket warranty from a reputable company if I were you, so you can limit the out of pocket expenses on your end. A bumper to bumper plan would cover almost everything on the car, minus wearable components like tires, brakes etc. There’s a few solid companies out there, but just make sure to check Better Business Bureau ratings before purchasing anything. Many companies come off as legit, but they’re complete scams, so be careful. Car shield is a prime example of a complete scam company. They have F ratings with the Better Business Bureau, but come off as legit and have tons of TV add time. The previous owner of this car used a company called Auto Advantage Inc, and said they were phenomenal. Do your research and good luck with the car!

Never ever get the V6. V8 is sooooo much better! That's what I have, of course.

Cats are expensive on any car. Just don't defer maintenance so you don't need new cats. They only go bad from bad ownership. Brakes are dirt cheap if you get better quality aftermarket parts. You have to be a fool to pay the dealer for their overpriced lower quality brakes. Tires are no more expensive for this car than any other car of this size.
