The XJL is one of the most striking designs on the road. when one flies by you, you notice. with S Class and 7 Series everywhere, seeing an XJL is a treat.
I leased a new XJ in 2015 for 3 years and I was 34-35 at the time. One of the nicest cars I have had. No issues in 3-4 years, basic service and returned my lease without issue. I had a preowned S-Class before which is often the benchmark for this segment and loved both cars. I would say to ignore the mainstream sentiment and opinions on these type of cars....it is often passed on by people who have barely sat, let alone driven the car. Just discovered your channel btw, great reviews and content.
I was not a big fan of the new XJ when it first came out but I slowly changed my opinion of it to the point where I bought an XJL Portfolio model. It is by far the best vehicle I have ever owned and love everything about it. I did have an intercooler replaced but other than that it has been very reliable and is a joy to drive.
I do own an XF, and to be honest....feel sorry that I bought it. Too much plastic and makes funny noises . Don`t waste your money and buy a Japanese car. European cars not so good nowadays, especially Jaguar
Can you believe that when I upgraded to the 1996 XJ6 the leaper was no longer standard? You had to pay a premium to have the leaper attached to the hoo.... ummmmm..... "bonnet".
Love my XJL - concur with everything in this review. Acceleration from the diesel is brutal but got 59.9mpg on a motorway run once. No faults after seven years either!!
@@nickdoughty518 what year and milage? And how much does servicing cost? Sorry for the questions, I’ve come to realise how cheap these vehicles are used
I have owned one for a few years now and can confirm it is an excellent car. The only thing I've really done to it is the yearly service at the dealership. If I compare this with the experience my friend who bought an Audi at about the same time had I would say the jag proved much more reliable. Plus jaguar dealers wash your car and offer you posh coffee when you go and visit while an Audi dealer can't wait for you to leave. I can also confirm it's quite a head turner
hey chris ..glad to hear it is reliable ... my friend in india sure will be glad to hear that .... and he had a bad experience with his earlier audi ... you are right abt their service levels....
Christopher Stura Mercedes Dealers offer the same coffee ☕️ and muffins pls water n good treatment to costumers when you are in their premises , i haven’t been in one of the Jaguar 🐆 dealerships but i look forward to taste their hospitality 😉 (i might get one of their products)
Have owed three audi cars and when i have taken them for service they have always gave mecoffee and even sent one of the young staff out to fetch me a sandwich and always had car washed and cleaned inside
jag dealers labour charge's are outrageous,so getting free coffee and a car wash is nothing..a friend of mine has his own jag/landrover specialist establishment,he and all his workers are trained jaguar master technician's and dont charge anything like taggarts will charge, for the same quality work..
I was one of those people, that was miffed over the new design direction. Over the past decade, they’ve grown on me, and now I think they are beautiful, distinctive, and still fresh and modern. Jaguar took a big risk, radically transforming an iconic model, and the gamble paid off, brilliantly. And yes, I do want one.
Guilty. Jags have that effect on their fans. I still remember Robert McCall’s ‘86 Black XJ, in The Equalizer. Probably the coolest car (for the coolest character) on TV. It didn’t have to talk, and it didn’t have to tear up the countryside, evading Boss Hogg, it was a JAG.
@@patrickburgess1107 yeah mate, despite my jokes, I hear you and agree. My Dad had an '86, a gun-metal grey V12, and it was the most mind numbingly cool car. I remember when the new shape was released, trying to convince my school mates it was a real Jag, while inwardly thinking "what have you done, Jaguar?" Nowadays I appreciate the design, especially the bravery and daring to break the traditional mould. Part of me wishes more people would see how awesome they are and buy them over a German fridge, but another part of me is like "nah man, these beasts need to stay exclusive". And yes, I also want one!
I completely agree. Here in South Carolina, the big Jags are rare, but then so are 7 series, S Class, and A8s. The Jags however, stand out when you see one. They have a presence that the others can’t match.
Love the new jag. Bought a 12 plate in 2016 and a part from suspension arms which needed changing once a year, never gave me no trouble. Had that for 3 years and enjoyed every mile of driving it. I then moved to another car for a year but I felt something was missing in my life so last month I bought another one 18 plate and god I love it. Best decision I ever made and would definitely recommend it.
Hi just wanted to say thanks again for a great video on the XJ. I have had mine for two years now, same as the one on your test drive. As you say it certainly turns heads every where we go. Drove to south of France in August 2019, it averaged 56 mpg. "I LOVE It" Not one issue with it, very reliable. Keep up the good work!
As a avid Jaguar enthusiast, who still owns the legendary X 300 model ( mine is a 1996 Jaguar Xj Vanden Plas), I will say definitely worth to buy the featured Jag in this video. Just like the X 300 took Jaguar into the 1990s with its sleek design, this car is worth every penny. I am proud that my old cat still holds its British legendary pedigree of true Jaguar craftsmanship. My engine 4.0 Inline 6 ( AJ 16) is pushing almost 300,000 original miles. This is the best car I ever owned and, I am looking forward to keep buying more future classic Jaguar models. Did I say that my Jag is my daily driver? Yes it is, and I am proud to drive it every day.
We have 2 silver XJ L (2015/17) in our fleet at work, great car to drive, handles well and plenty of power. Really stands out from crowd compared to our Mercedes as there’s not that many about.
I have had this car since Mathew at High Peak, sold me the XJL in 2019. I have driven Lexus LS and Mercs - Bentley's. This car is just so refreshing to be in, very powerful more like V8. You just sit back and enjoy life. One of the best.
I agree, bought an XF 4.2 2 years ago. Its the best car I have ever owned, Now looking out for a an XJ supercharged. Hopefully it will be my Christmas present to myself
Had one of these in a body shop I used to work in for minor bumper repair and someone noticed the mileage which we all found stunning because it ran absolutely fine with no smoking and quietly. Don't know the status of the car service wise etc but paint work was original, slightly dull and quite chipped with no rust. The mileage, 274000.
@@HighPeakAutos Forgot to mention that it was only just over two years old at the time which we thought mental because we couldn't get over the fact of how the mileage was possible in such short time, so your possibly right or maybe limo service.
Picked mine up from Jaguar Used Approved in 2019, a 2014 Premium Luxury model, just based on the way it looked. It had about 25,000 on the clock and has been an absolute dream to drive and run. What a find.
@@Horizon301. Well it's been an unusual 18 months so not a lot of miles driven, but no issues since the day I got it. It had a full 12-month service last month at about £440 (including MOT). That was classified as a 72,000 mile-service but I've not done anywhere near that, obviously.
Love your style of reviews - and this video helped persuade my wife to let me buy one (2016 Portfolio), and it really is a fantastic car. Your point about not needing validation from a car is spot on, no one looks at me in this and thinks "hey he's cool/has money" etc, it just puts a smile on my face driving it and that is all that matters to me. Keep up the great vidoes! Cheers.
I have an XJL 2013, AWD 3.0 in Maine. I love it. I believe if you take care of the car, it will take care of you. Keep up with service records, gas = Premium, and car wash 2X a month at least, especially in the Winter. It handles well. And did I mention you're sounded in Leather and wood? Every seat is spacious and welcoming.
i have a xf porfolio 3.0 and have bought a xjl on the strengh of you review , mine is in white and looks stunning, i love the fact that some people find the rear ugly but i think it is timeless, what a tremendous piece of design and engineering , i know this may be strange but years and years ago i was a aftersales manager at a fiat dealership and the the company car of my choice was a punto turbo and every time i was in it i was grinning like a fool , the xjl makes me feel the same all these years on, its the car that makes you feel so special......... surperb value for money b
Owned a 2014 portfolio for 3 years .. amazing car in every sense .. wafted along in everyday mode .. then turned into a beast with the touch of a button .. styling / fit /finish was next level .
I have a 2012 XJ. Bought it one year old. It was company owned then. It has done 46000 km in 7.5 years. Really no issues with it. It works well and is very relieable. I previously had an XF and it wasn't so good. Many electronical issues.
I absolutely love the new XJ. The new subseries that came about in 2016. In good long roads it is a masterpiece. As Jeremy Clarkson once said about it: "The S-class may be a comparable limo to this but an S-class doesn't stop and go and steer anywhere near as good as this". I know the Germans rule in car tech but the XJ is the most beautiful one. A head turner for sure. I believe the "facelifted" version has about 5hp more of the 3.0 turbo diesel. Anyways, it's a dream car along with the iconic XK (which Jaguar should bring it back), and I wish the used ones were as cheap outside as they are in the UK. To be honest I wish it was a little wider.
germans rule in stuffing cars with high tech (thats no longer really high tech in comparison with industry best), but its that kind of advanced technology which is quite unnecessary (overengineering more than even Tesla in some aspects) and fails right after the warranty period
I was very much in the "Appalled" camp when I heard they were doing away with the older XJ styling, and particularly the wood dash, which just seemed too iconic to lose. Its not a Jag without a wood dash or so I thought at the time, it had elegance that this new interior seemed to lack. But over the years since I have come to appreciate the more modern styling and now, I think the modern interior is stunning.
I bought one based on your review 2 years ago and I absolutely love it. Great car to drive fast and really really far. I can go 1100km on one tank of diesel no problem. Best car. Period.
Looks as if you have finally arrived, Matt! Not only have you reached 10,000 subscribers, but you are now reviewing current shape high specification luxury cars. Such a pleasure to see both these things happen, and very much deserved!
@@md-detailing previous generation of XJ was class this is average not even close to Mercedes S Class W222 or Lexus LS. Sad but Brits sold everything RR , Bentley , Jaguar , Land Rover ...
I live in the US. We don't have the diesel model here so the "base" model is the XJR sport. It has a 340 hp supercharged 6 cylinder engine and comes fully loaded. My wife drives it and absolutely loves it. She does not want me to sell it.
I've had my 2014 XJ Portfolio for 4 years now and love it. Had to replace front springs in the first year, looks like someone wasn't to kind to the car. Apart from brakes, servicing etc the car has had nothing else done. It is used daily for work and school run bringing 35+ As he said on a 70mph motorway run you will bring in 50 mpg+ - Touch 80Mph and it brings in 40mpg+ The car is fantastic. Comfort is exceptional and the Meridian sound system will smash out "Thunderstruck" to burst your ears. I love it and wont be getting rid of my cat.
I bought a X351 XJ before watching this video almost 3 years ago, and I absolute love it. Its stylish, its beautiful to drive, its individual and is equally at home doing the school run or a 150 mile dash from the Midlands to the south coast. Anyone considering going for one - do it. I have the Diesel 3.0 version. Its not a sports car, but has sufficient power, plus you can drive all day and not see another. I average 35mpg, and as the car is aluminium (lighter) you get Golf running costs for Bentley style. in 3 years of ownership, nothing has gone wrong and I have put 40k on the clock. Get one!
Hi Kevin Did you buy it as new or used? I am on the fence for this car but just not sure. Also would help me understand if the 40k was from new or on top of existing mileage. In the end any car can go wrong. :)
@@LowEndTorque Hey Akshay. I still have the car, owned for 4 years now. The car was 8 years old and with 33k miles on when I purchased, and was one of the very first supplied in the UK, being a June 2010 Model. Its still without issue also, just developed a wee judder under breaking in last month since hitting a pothole (and buckling a wheel slightly).
@@LowEndTorque mine is the 3.0 Diesel 6 speed. Across the range, Jaguar updated the engine in around 2015, during the model facelift, going from 275 to 300HP and the gearbox updated to provide 8 gears. The Engine is Ford derived also, not made by Jag themselves.
@@kevinwright3141 I am looking at 2015 3.0 Diesel models due to budget restrictions. There are some nice low mileage 2014 ones available. It is good to know about the 8 speed gearbox on these 2015 ones, I believed they were from 2013 onwards. :)
Iv'e always loved the XJ shape jaguars, especially the one prior to this, which was the best incarnation of all the other previous XJ6 designs. This new model is beautiful to look at from every angle, and is currently my favourite Jaguar to date. Thanks for the review, I knew you would speak highly of it..I might get one, one day...
Totally agree with you the XJ is contemporary, fresh and still looks stunning. The previous XJ was hanging on the coat tails of the series 1 XJ6. While a good looking car it’s image was too stuffy. I would easily choose an XJ over a 7 series or an A8 and to be honest none of them are a paragon of reliability
I bought a 2011 Portfolio in December 2022. Can't fault it, drives very well and the car wraps around you. Only feels big when you try to park it. The comfort is sublime, speakers are amazing and very economical on a long run. Feels like a magic carpet on a long drive.
I purchased a ultimate black xj supersport 2011.Here in United States of America ,all you will see is Chevy camaros, challengers, and mustangs. This jag being a 8 year old car is a extreme head turner.I had bankers, and friends wanting to purchase it from me.The compliments come from older men and woman, younger men and woman ,from bikers to muscle car collectors. The makers of the new xj did something very right!
I remember well I was not pleased with the new jaguar design But once driven the XF an XJ I changed my mind. The jaguar heritage is still there but ready for the future. Definitely the next Jaguar on my list. And the dumb grin on your face is all what a car should be about Thanks for the video ! And congratulations with your 10 k subscribers, well deserved !
I was going to buy one of these but went for the XF (after watching your XF video). Not disappointed with my choice as I went for the 3.0D S which is supremely comfortable and when needed goes like an absolute rocket. I agree totally with your comments that Jaguar makes you feel "special" every time you get in it, no other car I've owned has done this, and I've owned a few. Love your videos, watch all of them, even the cars I have no interest at all in. Keep going. All the best.
Great review.! Was a doubter about the new XF and XJ as I have had several pre 2003 Jaguars and didn’t like the new models but I now have an x350 4.2 XJ and a 2009 XF 3.0 twin turbo diesel and can say it’s the best jaguar I have ever had.All I can say to the doubters is try a test drive then buy one of the new Jaguars you won’t be disappointed!
Hi from Canada. I absolutely loooove all your videos - such great job you do. Keep-’em coming. I’m a loyal jag fan myself and a proud owner of 11 XF and 07 XK convertible. Both are absolutely great 🐆 vehicles. This brand doesn’t deserve the reputation it gets from non jag fans. Haters gonna hate.. Keep up the great work 👍🏻
Bought my first XJ portfolio 2015 a week ago and I am thoroughly delighted with everything. I honestly don't know why I have never had one before. Its a real head turner and people are quite happy to tell how good the car looks. Its dark Blue with cream leather interior absolutely stunning car.
I have always liked jags ever since I was a young lad growing up in the 70s and 80s. I had never been in one until I got friendly with a guy and when I asked him if he had a car he took out of his jacket a set of keys with a keyfob which had the big cat on. I said what one do you have he said an xj 4.2 auto. I said you have to give me a ride in it please please. There was a bank holiday came up so he arranged to pick me up and take me out in it. When I opened the heavy passenger door I was greeted by the smell of leather combined with a new car scent airfreshner. It was intoxicating. Sitting on the seat was like you were in a gentleman's club with plush wall to wall carpet polished wood and that dashboard and view over that huge bonnet finished off with that big chrome pouncing cat. We locked in our seat belts and he started her up with a growl she burst into life and then idled as smooth as silk no rattles vibration just a feeling like a cat purring. He engaged drive and released the parking brake and just squeezed the throttle she just seemed to glide forwards effortlessly for a huge beast. When we got to a dual carriageway we entered the slip road abd he waited for a clear gap and then hit the throttle the kickdown engaged and she lived up to the name jaguar she snarled and lept eating the tarmac. I felt like I was living the dream.
Joe Bag just bought a 2011 supercharged with 470 hp did the upgrades cause any engine issues ? I’d like to add 40 50 easy hp also . Lmk what to do first !
Anthony Morris I’d start with a tune only. That adds close to 100hp. The upper pulley only adds ~20-30hp and is irreversible and difficult to install. Talk to Mike at Eurotoys
Would I consider buying a brand new XJ 350 if it were available? If it was updated with internet, semi auto drive, adaptive cruise etc then yes if it was under £30k. The shape and driving position, ride comfort is exactly what I want . The latest Jags are beautifull but the old XJ's were perfect !
I see these used for around 6000-8000€ in excellent condition. They have a lot of miles of course but the owners of these vehicles really take good care of them. They look brand new after 14 years.
I’ve watched this video so many time and can’t stop smiling when i look at my driveway and see my beautiful xj portfolio glistening in the sun. Keep up the jag videos👍
a very honest option on a truly great new style jaguar XJ, its my nest car now for sure, have had the S type SE then the STR and now just recently the XF Portfolio, was really tempted on the XJ but failed to secure a low mileage one in time so opted for the XF and again a truly fine Jaguar with tons of torque, had it remapped and wax-oiled as live on the coast but its a super super drive,
My wife has the XJR Sports Supercharged 2016, we both love this limousine to bits. As soon as she sat in the drivers seat she was sold, it’s exactly what she wanted. We have had the Jaguar XF 2010 and 2014 models before but the XJ is just excellent. They are excellent to drive and also as a passenger, can not recommend it highly enough. And I agree you do feel very special driving these cars, they are definitely a head turner.
Watching this video now in 2024, you've come a very long way from 10k subscribers 5 years ago to almost 400k now. Absolutely love your content and keep it going!
Thanks to this video I took the plunge and purchased a 2013 XJ 3.0D Portfolio, which I picked up yesterday. A 170 mile trip back from Sheffield to Buckinghamshire yesterday confirmed just what an epic car this is. Absolute luxury for very little outlay. Seriously undervalued cars. Considering an XF for my wife now (She wants a smaller car)!
@Peon Kelmendi Hi. Yes, it's great. I had the EGR valve cleaned, that was the only issue I've had (current mileage: 93,000 km, as I also own a 6 series coupé E63, LCI). The XJ/XJL is gorgeous, but that's luxury car territory, and it's not my thing.
If you want one get the portfolio with tv drb massage & cooling seats active cruise heated everything service every year and you'll love it. Had mine 6 years now looking for replacement, it has to be another XJ probably the autobiography.
Yes. Had my 2012 Jag for nearly 2 years. It is the best car 've ever owned. 3.0 V6 Deisel is powerful and the gearbox is flawless. Amazing interior. Great reliability. World's stupidest sat nav.
@@Horizon301. yes sirrrrrrrrr...I got a 2013 light blue with 33,000 miles on it for 22,000 it was a on owner..and I got a 5 year warranty on it...I love it
I sincerely hope you have managed to persuade your father to buy it! This must be a wonderful car to drive!! I absolutely love it, but my dad would never purchase that because he prefers SUVs and because he used to love Jags but now he can't stand the indian ownership (Tata Motors bought Jaguar and Land Rover back in 2008)
Hi nice review, 2010 plates will need the timing belts done as it's 112000 or 10 years plus you'd also get water pump replaced as this is worth doing with belt replacement. Try avoid early models and go from 2012 upwards to avoid clunky rattles from glass sunroof, and if you can afford it go for the portfolio model far better spec, 5.0 v8 models have tensioner problems on timing chain between 2010-2012, also look out for type pressure monitoring system on dash this can be problematic and costly. Enjoy they are great cars.
EXCELLENT REVIEWS....just watched A7 Audi and BMW 5 review..i'm budgeting on £15k...and have little experience in car buying. But this time I need to get it right as probably last opportunity in my lifetime to buy outright, just want to applaud the A7 & BM5 review; so this review page has really given me some sound advice. Refreshing articulation, no geeky ego dialogues wasting info time. Yet the veiled quirks are constructive and appropriate. Oh! i've subscribed! Best on TH-cam!!
So after a few more days deciding what saloon to buy, went with a 2011 Jaguar XJ 3.0 LTR Diesel Premium Luxury. This video was the reason why. Was also pleased that the XJ got a huge thumbs up in you recent Q & A video. Nice one. Absolutely love the XJ. Serious power and feel great driving it. Found a Lunar Grey, one owner, 60,000 miles. Cambelt done!!!!
I have a portfolio model and absolutely love it , still has great presence today , wanted one since i first saw one , Both inlet manifolds cracked which is common on them sending it into restricted performance , but were sorted under warranty , other than that its been a great car
Got one myself, white Portfolio, fully pimped! Best car I have ever had. Grown men have stopped me to say “what a beautiful car”. It drives brilliantly, really comfortable and goes like stink if you boot it! Can’t recommend it highly enough. Love the video btw...especially how you’ve dressed like a sensible Jag owner!
Another great review,i agree with everything you said about the XJ., in fact, i think they are the used car bargain of the Century, even better than the XF
I purchased a used 2018 XJ R-Sport a few months back and could not be happier with that decision. Your review (along with many others) was one that helped me make that choice. I was a bit concerned about maintenance costs so purchased an additional 3 year warranty so feel pretty comfortable over all. As you mention, the interior (mine is London Tan and Ebony) is simply gorgeous. Just a very satisfying place to be. There is just something about driving this machine that seems different (hard to explain). I have subscribed and enjoy your channel......very well done!! Cheers Kevin - Ontario, Canada
I could see 007 driving modern XJ driving HM down Pall Mall, being chased by someone driving Merc S Class, Audi 7 or BMW 7! Remember Top Gear Racing Sun the Sunset on Coast of Cornwall to next days Sunrise to East Anglia Coast in the Modern XJ. Making me wish i could just rent it for a week and Go for a drive!
Man, i've just spent 6 months deliberating between the XF and the XJ on a 20k budget. In the end I took a minter XF 3.0 Petrol and I couldn't be happier. However, I came very close to several XJ's and I no doubt would have been as besotted as you with my purchase. In any case, modern Jags have so much going for them and are absolutely the ultimate, characterful, performance bargain! Happy Jagging
I was put off by everyone around me that I should not even think of a used jag. But u brought my confidence back😘 I can live with it if has some common issues!
This is an incredible review. I was about to buy either a 2016 Audi A8 or BMW 750i on Carvana and based on this review I looked into the XJ and next Friday, I get an XJL Portfolio, nicely loaded. All of them with similar low miles were in the same price range. The Jag just looks stunning inside and out!
This review mirrors my experience with the smaller XF I was very lucky to get as a company car in 2010. I was initially dubious about the styling but was soon bowled over by what turned out to be a fantastic car in all respects. My XF was also poverty spec but comparatively well appointed compared to what I was used to. my car had the slightly lower 240 break horsepower diesel v6 but it still went like a rocket and careful driving gave me an astonishing 62 miles per gallon on one occasion and mid fifties was easily achievable. I just hope jaguar electrify the XJ or frankly it's doomed .
I agree! They're great cars aren't they. I think they will give us an e-XJ. The iPace has proved to be successful so it would make sense to use the same tech on an XJ
I used to be a driver for Jag landrover in Birmingham and drove these, the F pace and XL XF''s as well as the range rovers. These were great cars and the jags were fantastic to drive
Love my 2010 Portfolio! I have had a few of the common issues after owning the car between 77 and 100k miles, intake manifolds are a biggie on the AJD-V6, before 2013 I believe they crack and cause restricted performance. Both replaced are around £1400, i've had the alternator fail too, but its a small price to pay for a car this good. Fit some Michelin Pilot Sport tyres and it is genuinely more chuckable down a B-road than my previous car, a 208GTi despite the 2+meter body extension!!
Thanks for this amazing material! I'm a huge fan of Jaguar, and from the first model to the last one ,I just loved all! Very beautiful and stylish cars!
Matt is bang on with this review. I've had mine since 2016 bought at 3 years old, its only a base "luxury" model, that's good enough, I don't need tv's in the rear or massage 18 way adjustable seats ... Slight correction Matts car is on a 60 plate so it should have 6 speed ZF, the 8 speed from 13 on are supposedly better. The car is fast, torquey & cheap to run, diy maintenance is so easy & saves a bundle on dealership charges. For those not into DIY there are excellent independent specialists that are far better & cheaper than the franchise dealers. Buy one!
By far the best car I have ever owned, goes like a stabbed rat, handles beautifully, smooth as cashmere underpants and its incredibly good on fuel (3ltr 275bhp). The XJ is such a joy to drive and to look at.
Having owned the 5.0 liter Supercharged V8 XF for 5 years, once you own a Jag, it's very difficult to go back to anything else as a daily driver. So sad i sold it. Will get another soon, and drive it until it falls to pieces.
Great down to earth review, thanks. I've had an XJ (old model), XK8 conv, XK 5.0 Signature conv, and now driving a 2010 XJL 3.0 Portfolio with London tan since 2018. At 130k mi, no issues whatsoever, apart from sticking out of most UK parking spaces :) And yes the dynamic mode.. it's hard to believe it's a diesel !!
Great Review seems like a real keeper ill keep that in mind. im in the U.S. a SAAB guy at heart i own (3) 95' 9000, 97' 900, 99' 9-3 and will never give them up, I also owned and love the 12' Land Rover-LR2, and now a proud owner of a 12' XJ8. 5.0
I've driven a CPO 2011 XJL since 2015 & loved it the whole time. No issues just routine maintenance (tires, oil&filter, transmission service, air filters, sprayclean the MAPS etc just minor DIY stuff). Was initially test driving the maserati's, MB S/E class, & the XK when a Maser salesman suggested a 2012 XJ Portfolio on the lot & that was all it took. I was shopping for an XJ after 1 test drive. The 2011 XJL's came with almost all options. I still smile & love driving mine & highly recommend 1 to anyone considering this segment. Try the Michelin Pilot Sport's on it, they improve the ride tremendously over the OEM Pirelli's. Use the audio/nav - Voice command system, much quicker & direct than the touch screen. Cheers!
The XJL is one of the most striking designs on the road. when one flies by you, you notice. with S Class and 7 Series everywhere, seeing an XJL is a treat.

I was not a big fan of the new XJ when it first came out but I slowly changed my opinion of it to the point where I bought an XJL Portfolio model. What engine does your car have?
@Sarthak Suman many of the XJ owners are happy!! All those who talk shit about modern jags are just dumb and jealous! That's all I'm saying!!
@Sarthak Suman yes, what scotty says is true...if you want a jag -- get one from when ford owned them...
Paul Johnson Shit talk. Based on nothing but envy😁
Totally agree, this and the XF are what saved Jaguar - classy, imposing and brutish modern style.
You had to pay a premium to have the leaper attached to the hoo.... ummmmm..... "bonnet".
You are getting confused with the out of production S type.
I got an XF too, but got the opposite impression. Absolutely love it.
Saved Jaguar ??? They sell roughly 2000 of them a year. That is waaay to little to recoup the investment and make some money out of it
Love my XJL - concur with everything in this review. Acceleration from the diesel is brutal but got 59.9mpg on a motorway run once. No faults after seven years either!!
I agree. Pleased to hear its been reliable
Is it still reliable?
@@Horizon301. yes, absolutely.
@@nickdoughty518 what year and milage? And how much does servicing cost? Sorry for the questions, I’ve come to realise how cheap these vehicles are used
@@Horizon301. 2014, 43k, annual service about £230 from a local but competent garage. Fuel economy on a run totally bonkers.
Coffee and car wash is not a problem here in America, even at a VW dealership.
hey chris ..glad to hear it is reliable ... my friend in india sure will be glad to hear that .... and he had a bad experience with his earlier audi ... you are right abt their service levels....
Lol now they're a decade old they seem fresh and modern. Definitely a traditional jaaaag fan😂
I remember when the new shape was released, trying to convince my school mates it was a real Jag, while inwardly thinking "what have you done, Jaguar?"
Nowadays I appreciate the design, especially the bravery and daring to break the traditional mould.
Best decision I ever made and would definitely recommend it.
suspension arms every year ?
Were the suspension arms OEM or cheap Fleebay fakery's?!!
That’s great! They’re impressive cars

I have had this car since Mathew at High Peak, sold me the XJL in 2019. I have driven Lexus LS and Mercs - Bentley's. This car is just so refreshing to be in, very powerful more like V8. You just sit back and enjoy life. One of the best.

Thats incredible. You do often see mega high mileage examples which must have been chauffeur cars

Cheers.

I went to the Jag' Collection at the British Motor Museum today, by co-incidence. What an amazing sight. I get Jags now. XJ, yes please...
Jaguar has always been in a class by itself in my opinion 👍🏾
I have an XJL 2013, AWD 3.0 in Maine. I love it. I believe if you take care of the car, it will take care of you. Keep up with service records, gas = Premium, and car wash 2X a month at least, especially in the Winter. It handles well. And did I mention you're sounded in Leather and wood? Every seat is spacious and welcoming.
i have a xf porfolio 3.0 and have bought a xjl on the strengh of you review , mine is in white and looks stunning, i love the fact that some people find the rear ugly but i think it is timeless, what a tremendous piece of design and engineering , i know this may be strange but years and years ago i was a aftersales manager at a fiat dealership and the the company car of my choice was a punto turbo and every time i was in it i was grinning like a fool , the xjl makes me feel the same all these years on, its the car that makes you feel so special......... surperb value for money

Heard the same opinion about tail, funny I find it beautiful, so I guess it’s either love or hate here 😂
Owned a 2014 portfolio for 3 years .. amazing car in every sense .. wafted along in everyday mode .. then turned into a beast with the touch of a button .. styling / fit /finish was next level .
You can still have walnut, got it mine.

I've had my 2014 XJ Portfolio for 4 years now and love it. Had to replace front springs in the first year, looks like someone wasn't to kind to the car. Apart from brakes, servicing etc the car has had nothing else done. It is used daily for work and school run bringing 35+ As he said on a 70mph motorway run you will bring in 50 mpg+ - Touch 80Mph and it brings in 40mpg+
The car is fantastic.
Get one!

But u brought my confidence back😘
I can live with it if has some common issues!
Wen I took my Range Rove in for service, I was loaned one of these for a few days by the dealership. I didn't want to give it back.
They're lovely cars aren't they
This is an incredible review. I was about to buy either a 2016 Audi A8 or BMW 750i on Carvana and based on this review I looked into the XJ and next Friday, I get an XJL Portfolio, nicely loaded. All of them with similar low miles were in the same price range. The Jag just looks stunning inside and out!
Jeffrey has it broken down on you at all
@@belfastbornstephen none, no issues. The Infotainment system is a little slow, but I knew that coming in.
They have scrapped the XJ entirely. Very sad.
I used to be a driver for Jag landrover in Birmingham and drove these, the F pace and XL XF''s as well as the range rovers. These were great cars and the jags were fantastic to drive
I think you’re reviews are brilliant 👌👌 they’re light hearted, objective and honest, on the back of this I’m looking into purchasing an XJ
I love ALL JAGUARS, its my favorite automaker
Thanks for this amazing material! I'm a huge fan of Jaguar, and from the first model to the last one ,I just loved all! Very beautiful and stylish cars!
Bought an XJ last week after looking at your XJ review. Beautiful car. Thanks Matt, I really enjoy watching your videos.
Glad you like them!
Buy one!
I am looking for this type of car this one just entered the view list it's magnificent thanks for the video.
Thanks for watching! :)
Waited this video for so long.
One of the best looking jags ever made,a true "cat".
I'm waiting for a Lexus LS600h next .Keep up the good work 💪
Cringanu David Thanks for watching! The LS600h is quite a rare find
Lexus all day every day
By far the best car I have ever owned, goes like a stabbed rat, handles beautifully, smooth as cashmere underpants and its incredibly good on fuel (3ltr 275bhp).
Tell me about it. Sold my pre face lift XF a little while ago. Now regretting it.
Great down to earth review, thanks.
I've had an XJ (old model), XK8 conv, XK 5.0 Signature conv, and now driving a 2010 XJL 3.0 Portfolio with London tan since 2018. At 130k mi, no issues whatsoever, apart from sticking out of most UK parking spaces :)
And yes the dynamic mode.. it's hard to believe it's a diesel !!
You're my new favorite car guy.. great job.. M
Thank you!
Congratulations on hitting 10k
The 'new' xj is a stunning looking car
Thank you!
Thanks for the great review, I'm going to buy one, love the new shape XJ's to bit! 😎 👍🏻
I love them too. They're great cars
Great Review seems like a real keeper ill keep that in mind. im in the U.S. a SAAB guy at heart i own (3) 95' 9000, 97' 900, 99' 9-3 and will never give them up, I also owned and love the 12' Land Rover-LR2, and now a proud owner of a 12' XJ8. 5.0
Good choice!
Cheers!
