I'm 63 years old and when I was about 10 my parents put me on Ritalin. My dad was (and still is!) a pediatrician and they still swear it was the only thing that could get me through elementary school. But getting through elementary school was a curse, as it only convinced me that my only course in life was to conform. It wasn't until many many years later I realized that I had given up my superpower. Ever since then, my life has been a crazy wonderful rocket ship ride of success, happiness and zero regrets. Thank you for continuing to champion our superpowers.

I’ve been told that a lot of people with adhd are constantly trying find that stimuli which can lead to addiction. It’s kinda why they push for meds because it reduces the risk. The only down side is that it feels like you’re creativity is somewhat dampened.

Every time I see a shot of Casey passing by the camera, I remind myself that despite having the income to hire a roaming film crew, he sets up the camera, executes the shot, goes back for the camera, and simply continues. Aside from being just one of his many film signatures, the patience and discipline it requires never goes unappreciated as a fan, because being behind the lens guarantees always being present… in the moment, and in the art.

i was diagnosed with adhd when i was a kid and was told there was something wrong with me and treated as such. now that im in my 30s, i love it! the hyper focus really is a super power lol i can fixate on anything pretty much with like an eagle eye and notice everything around me, whether its hearing or seeing. i remember so much and can process information so much faster than someone without adhd. i retain the smallest minute details about anything and see everything instantly to its roots and have spot on intuition. unfortunately the only downside is the essence of this video. procrastination. its hard for me to get momentum on a project and a lot of the time i am having to force myself to complete tasks. once i get going though, the taurus inside of me rage full speed ahead and then i am damn near impossible to stop or slow down lol please do more videos about living with adhd and add casey!! its nice to know there is other people out there that understands and lives with this type of life!

As someone with ADHD, the shoe didn't drop until you explicitly mentioned it. For the rest of it I was just watching it, thinking about a loooottt of things at the same time, being like "Yeah, I know that struggle, boredom v burnout and all" and when you mentioned ADHD I actually blurted out "Holy shit" because I was so caught off guard by the mention of it.

I think the key of balance is to take everything into account, not just what you need in that time. "Do I need to study but I'm actually tired as hell?" Okay, I will rest for a while, but also schedule my next studying time! Awesome content, Casey!

I'm 70 years old and been dealing with ADD all my life. I find that procrastinating gives me time to fully conceptualize and finalise ideas and then quickly execute those ideas fairly quick. Having taken the time to think things through allows for forethought of possible issues. It has been a gift that I learned to take advantage of. In the foregone days we were the people that heard every strange sound or activity and alerted the rest of the group to what was going on. Vital for primitive survival. Hyper hearing is one of the features of ADD that would drive the average person crazy. I can't tolerate crowds because I hear every conversation simultaneously, not like background noise but the actual conversations. There are as many advantages as disadvantages to ADD.

I think you are going about this wrong. If you are planning and conceptualizing, then you are not procrastinating, right? Planning is part of the process of doing the thing. Some people (like me and you) prefer to fully plan out stuff in advance, to visualize how everything clicks together, go through all the possible scenarios, anticipate and plan for various circumstances, stuff that can go wrong, make a bulletproof plan....and then the execution is just following that plan, the incredible feeling when everything comes together and takes shape just as you visualized it, how the gears turn in harmony, it's like poetry in motion.
And then there are people like Casey, who come up with some brilliant but half-baked idea, immediately lunge into action, and then make it up as they go, dealing with issues and changing course as needed, always keeping an eye on the ball. The end result for both methods is usually the same, it's just the process that's different.

Harness your ADD/ADHD powers and be blown away by the insane experiences you get to be a part of. Don't let "normal" brains tell you you are a liability. They just see your powers as a threat. And you, Casey, are a manifesto to this reality. Proof that a hyper creative brain is capable of the most marvelous miracles. I had to find these things out by myself just as you did. But it made me capable of utilizing the same mechanism you describe. Bulls eye Casey 🎯

Wow just clicked on this vid (to procrastinate) and I've been on a recent journey discovering my own ADD recently and although I've seen many videos of the obstacles I share with everyone else whose brain works like mine I rarely see videos like this that emphasize the "superpower" that comes alongside this. Thank you Casey.

You part about ADD made me a bit emotional. I’ve been diagnosed with this as an adult, just in the last year or so. It’s been eye opening and helpful to understand, but also often makes me feel like my brain is broken because “normal” things are a struggle. Knowing that you have it and have turned it into an advantage and have been as successful as you are helps me change my viewpoint. Thank you for sharing this and all the countless other nuggets of wisdom along the way! You may never know or see the impact you have on so many people, but there are tons of us inspired by you all the time. Thanks for that!

Exactly this. I was diagnosed in 2022 and have been learning to thrive with the support of medication now. Being able to take the pressure off me just a little bit has made me realise how much this can be an advantage, and I really feel grateful that Casey is a positive role model addressing that living like this is completely okay. I've been having a lot of guilt about my inability to commit to workplaces for more than a few years at a time, so this video turned up at the right time to reinforce this for me.

It would be cool if you dived deeper into this superpower aspect and how it helps you (and others?) tackle their every day lives. This would empower the ADHD community instead of weighing it down with all the usual tropes and negativity that everyone has already heard time again. Rock on 🤘🏽

I procrastinate due to anxiety and then lean in and it makes me work harder and produces better work. Candace described it perfectly ❤ This is why I have to work for myself because it doesn't fit everyone else's 'structure' or the 'right' way. So, now that I realize this at the age of 40 deamed medically unable to work (fibromyalgia) and unmasking my ADHD, I'm finally doing my art fulltime and it's taken off like a rocket!! The hardest part is accepting the fact that I'm really amazing at it and people genuinely agree. Soooo freaky but worth it ❤

I’ve been dealing with ADHD my whole life, diagnosed at 12 and I’m 46 now. One thing I’ve come to learn is that if I’m procrastinating with something, it’s probably because my brain feels that task is inefficient or counter-productive. I try to stay in the sweet spot of doing things that inspire me to create and do more, and steer away or delegate the tasks that I tend to procrastinate on. Mowing the lawn? I pay a pro who absolutely loves mowing lawns. Jackhammering, core drilling, pouring concrete? I’m all about it. Designing new stuff in CAD? Oh golly, give me more, please. Intuitively investing in the stock market? Fantastic, bring it on. Painting my house? Shoot me now…but as it turns out my buddy Steve owns a painting business and he loves painting like I love 3D printing, and I will happily cut him a nice fat check to spare me that torture.

At the age of 28, reminiscing about my childhood, I can't help but remember the time when I was just a 10-year-old kid put on Ritalin by my parents. You know what's interesting? My dad, who's a pediatrician (and still rocking it!), firmly believes that Ritalin was the only secret weapon to survive elementary school. But let me tell you, elementary school felt like a curse, a constant reminder that my only path in life was to conform. It took me countless years to realize that I had unknowingly given up something extraordinary, my superpower, if you will. And you know what happened when that realization finally hit me? My life took off like a wild rocket, filled with unbelievable success, boundless happiness, and not a single regret in sight. I can't thank you enough for being a constant advocate, championing our unique abilities. You're truly making a difference!
