Squaw Valley - Skier Hucks (Crashes) Huge 100' Cliff at Silverado Canyon

- After 36" of snow in 24 hours, people were getting after it at Squaw - hitting the chutes and hucking cliffs. Gunner Newquist hucked a 100+ foot cliff below Tram Bowl (High Camp) near Silverado lift. It definitely was not pretty, but he hucked a huge cliff and skied away. In the air, he started out face first before landing on his back and creating a classic "Squaw hot tub".
Based on his performance and landing, it makes me think that in those snow conditions, I could have taken a red saucer off the same cliff, tossed the saucer in mid-air, landed on my back in the deep pow, and walked away. What do you think?
thats just how you land a 100 foot fall
Yeah land that on your feet and your knee will knock your jaw off
It's amazing you never made it as a cameraman.
Such a nicely executed front flip! After 50 feet you should land on your back...unless you want your knees to go through your face!
After 99’ not 50. People stomp 50’+ cliffs every day with good snow conditions.
These dudes definitely hucked a huge bowl on the lift
"This will be one of the gnarlier hucks I've seen"
The dude: It's the gnarliest or im not going
That wasnt a crash. He back slapped cuz the landing was too flat. A+ drop.
Squaw Valley will make you do things you'd never consider in your real life...I made love to a black bear in 97 on Granite Chief. Ok, I'm lying...The black bear made love to me.

he didnt crash, thats how ur supposed to land
I like the tomahawk marks under the big middle section of cliff
Welcome to Squaw. Check your sanity at the door. Squaw is rowdy pants. Death falls around every corner. This ain't your pappy's double black diamond.
like he said, knarly man
haha stewdgg, how stoned are you??? HAppy 4/20!!!
One-upping my signature snowboard trick - the 3/4 back flip - with a full-send 3/4 front flip. Perfection!
Holy fuck... then audio on this is fucking horrible. If there was a noise that was designed to drive people literally insane, it's the dude breathing and all the ski pole claps afterward...
If you look closely, he has a motocross helmet on 😂😂
Nah it's a ski cross helmet. Very similar though.
lawn dart
that guy just did what i like to call, a JP. rip jp
holy hell
You guys are stoned AF🤣
Was that his buddy on the traverse or did he almost do a 70ft pile drive on some poor guy?
It would be his buddy making sure he doesn't end up stuck under the snow etc..
Massive crater!!!
Extra Large juevos !!
Is this Jamie Pierre? Big huck.
36 inches in 24 hours is not a lot of snow for 100 feet. Was gunner winded? Any soreness? Ive gone 65 feet with 110 inches in 72 hours and it was super fluffy. A few people did hospital (kirkwood) air with 136 inches in 36 hours and or something and they said it they have had back problems as they got older. Dont know if its related to the huck tho lots of people have back problems.
Like that is still Squaw... Not the Woke Palisades. Peace..
bro is very familiar with the stickiest pf the icky
So everyone saying it's not possible to land on your feet with such a huge drop, it is...dude took 3/4 of Corbet's in the air and staight up stomped it, but it was a steeper landing

slow it to slowest , you can see he lands on his head-back. 1:00
Bob Joy he does that on purpose
That wasnt really a crash, just proper hot tubing technic
nice camera work
Holy shit! Nice
So sick
The skis didn’t even come off
yeah the top comment better be from gnar!
Was für eine scheiß Kameraführung und dann das blöde Gelaber. What a crappy camera work and then the stupid drivel.
Bright light
Ooooohhhhhhhh ... that's a clif!
what do they call that? lawn dart?
"Dude"!!!!!
Homie landed on his back. Honestly we should all just say Fuck it
Jamie Pierre would have said that's landed
@TheDerick435 squaw hot tub
Stuck the landing, 9.9.
Nishta
Siiiik ! Fresh cake 🎂
Got some fries to go with that camera shake?
not 100 still pre sick though!!
Always remember the saying “ risk vs reward “ What was the upside of this jump? Not much.
Risk = Probability * Consequences
For someone who knows how to take big air…this had a low Risk of permanent damage.
Broken bones are standard fare for someone like this
@@anthonysteen56 Sadly ACL pop super easy and surprising so does your back. Another fun fact that many people don’t seem to know is in about 15 years of popping your ACL you will have arthritis in said knee. Most of my friends are wearing knee braces, popping pills and some getting knee replacement’s. When your young you are not thinking about this. I myself have had at least six serious injuries and I wish I would have thought it out a bit better. On the positive side I am still skiing, mountain biking and backpacking often well into my 60s. Take care
No crash, all send
that was owen leeper
Lol pot heads
@Trophyeater yesterday i was riding powder and this is huuge!!!
I jump over 3m drop and almost broke my back
Looks like the snow conditions resemble Sierra cement.
California Concrete..... like cold mashed potatoes
Camerawork was abysmal.
Julian ess
@lovethesierra Settle down turbo.
Same place were CR Johnson feb 2010 crash and died?
That was Light Towers off of Headwall chair. This off of Silverado.
@@stewdgg Hi There, - I'm a producer with a show on The Weather Channel, and we'd love to talk to you about your footage - interested in other clips you might have! Please reply back to me at John@es.tv ... Best, - John
Backslap...-50 points.
KevinMaster Flexington he would have gotten serious spinal compression if he stomped it, also he would have knocked himself out with his knees
to bad he didn't!!
a back flop isn't a landing...its a FAIL!!!
@@sedatedturtle nah when u ski massive cliffs its perfect if u land this way
Anything over 70’ and you better hip check or backslap you Jerry’s
only 36"? yikes
and btw, too much pow to ride a saucer. A GT would be sick as fuck though
Dude, gotta push yr hands forward on takeoff on anything that big, forward forward forward! Rolling up the windows even a little bit even with a flat takeoff = on yr head for sure.
After about 60-70 feet you can't land on your feet anymore. You will slam your face into your knees everytime. Watch any 80+ cliff hucks in a ski movie and they all land on their backs
john kimball that’s also to avoid spinal compression
forgive me but i have never understood why skiers like to land on their backs. this guy looks like he did 3/4 of a front flip. can some explain this to me as to why? cheers - a snowboarder
you'd break your legs if you landed feet first, even with the powder
It distributes the force so that they avoid injury. The forward momentum I's usually enough to right the skier after they land.
He’d be dead if he landed on his feet
Fail troll
Not very skilled. Had not vision on the jump- you have to do a trick to stay focused in the air. He was just throwing himself off with no direction and the poor results followed. Glad he is ok and didn't tag a rock or snow covered boulder that could have been waiting under the snow at the landing- happens all the time.
This is probably the worst camera work I have ever seen.
