What are you supposed to do if you lose your edge? Also could you like define what losing your edge is, i've only been snowboarding once. For me whenever I would fall or feel out of control I would turn heelside and fall backwards to sit down basically how you're saying NOT to do.
Peracetic if you lose your edge you want to get back up and put weight back on your snowboard as fast as you can because if your sitting on your ass there is no pressure on your edge meaning you have no control so if youre ever in a hairy spot and you lose your edge you get back up and try to regain control

Just asking for something bad to happen, people are morons. He spent the whole ride trying to figure out which path was less likely to kill him, sounds like fun to me.
I am utterly terrified of snowy mountains. I immediately get a panic response in my brain just watching these videos. So much vast space, extreme heights, nothing to hold onto, just snow.
Everybody in the comments is talking about his reckless behavior, and I will too. Just something a bit different. As a hiker who has summited a few quite sketchy mountains and glaciers, I could tell just by the way he was climbing up the mountain something would go wrong. Even if it looks like there are good footholds from the person in front of you, always make sure they are deep and strong, unlike him. Also, on the scramble where there was no line, he should trying MUCH harder to get better holds. All around reckless, and thank you for your time.
Bro didn’t even have a line. You can tell they are NOT LOCAL, and just decided to go out of bounds and see where we end up. You can tell by what he was doing he has no idea where that line was taking him and yet he just kept going.
Guys why do you make jokes and say what he should've done he made a really big mistake going that way but it was obviously an accident when he fell down I mean like nobody would fall down a cliff for no reason unless they've made the decision to and besides this guy was obviously hurt didn't you see his bloody lip I feel really bad for the guy and you guys should too instead of making fun of him
The comment section is either hating or making youtube recommendation jokes. I genuiently feel sorry for this guy posting this video. I hope he can get over the hate.
That's a selfish thing to say, saying you're glad he did fall for Wasting 12mins of your life? Yes they could have skipped to the fall but that was a very cruel thing to say
Its not a cruel think to say, look how stupid this person is :D obviously would have trouble to ride a snwoboard on the piste and he goes off all alone obviously doesnt have any clue about the path and cannot even find one when he's there at least. He can only be greatful that there wasnt enough snow for avalanches, because if there was the conditions and his riding would be just perfect for triggering one.
@@nikolassmithers4870 It's a rental snowboard and is not the right equipment for riding off piste. Especially at that grade. He very clearly inexperienced and should not have been there to begin with.
@@nikolassmithers4870 I'm assuming the plastic is to protect the nose and tail from damage. It's basically useless but it's on pretty much all rental boards for some reason. Most beginner snowboard are very flexible (which helps those who are learning) but are not good for steep, icy terrain like the run he was on.
easy to say he's stupid but its an honest mistake that can happen to anyone without experience of the mountains (taking a lift and skiing through them quickly doesn't count). Now whis to blame? Nobody but himself because everyone knows that skiing off piste carries even greater risk than normal skiing on runs. From the perspective of a mountaineer that terrian looks like some nice climbing (maybe even boring in some of the powdery seracs), but the thought of being on that icy rocky ledge without at least a piolet or set of crampons on hand is what nightmare's are made of if you've ever had the unpleasant experience of hopelessly slipping on ice toward danger.
Gabriel S. Who in their right mind hikes to the peak to do some unmarked terrain riding on rental boards. His looks to be rental from the sticker at the front and bumper guards but his friend in front is on a Button LTR board which is definitely a rental. It just makes no sense. Peer pressure can get you into those situations though but it was still his decision and when you look at how he is riding even from the beginning it's obvious he shouldn't be there. I'm sure on the way up it says unmarked terrain and had at least a black diamond but most likely was double black.
That was nerve racking to watch. I'm do mountaineering in Canada and I've personally seen an incident similar to this happen a few hundred meters below me in similar conditions resulting in a helicopter rescue. If you are in steep, hard packed, icy conditions off trail you better know wtf you're doing, and don't go alone.
This is my nightmare in this video right here. First time on a mountain no idea where to go, no one else in sight and icy. The guy in the video knew he was in trouble though and also says that he has no idea how to make it back to the station. Hard not to panic. At least the wind didn't pick up and it was sunny. That could've made things a lot worse.
Definitely a situation where you prefer sharp edges over wax. What surprises me is the amount of walking done on this mountain with no crampons. I would make that a rule of thumb. Walk with them or ride
Nope just popped on my feed and I’m so glad it did hahah I feel for this guy but damn unreal I can’t believe those people let this guy go and didn’t even bother to go with him like where the fawk is this
Thanks for posting the video. I think it's brave to post a video which discloses so much wrong doing, which resulted in the accident. It is therefore useless to bitch about how stupid this guy is. More interesting is to ask what caused the accident (taking off the board on an icy sloap) and why it happened. Everyone who watches the video can learn a lot from it. And although it is long it is quite interesting to see how he moved himself from minute to minute into a life threatening situation. So surely worth the time to watch and to think about the cause.
OK, let me explain the video. This dude goes to a rental shop and rents a board, for mountain boarding. Then with no plan as to what route he is going to take he goes on a nice icy part of the mountain. He takes off his board because he doesn't know how to board and moves one foot and plummets I'd say 100ft on rock and lands in some snow.
the context was important and showed what turns guy made to get there. not everything has to be shortened to less than a minute for your short attention span
Glad I’m not the only one who was frustrated at the lack of a planned out route. No one followed him, no walkies from what I could tell, and the constant hesitation made it obvious there was no original route planned. Glad this dude made it out alive at the end of the day but this video was rough
Woah. Gnarly. This is actually why I’m always a little more nervous skiing outside the US. Our litigation-friendly culture here makes it really hard to unintentionally end up in deep shit like he does here. Granted the boot pack hike up the spine at the beginning was probably a pretty good clue there were some potential wrong turns on that route but he does a pretty good job of survival riding until the end.
"unintentionally end up in deep shit like he does here." bro he hiked to the top of a high peak and snowboarded off in a completely random direction. You can do dumb shit like that in the US too.
@@ripred42 yeah, when I was a teenager my friends and I were trying to smoke a joint in keystone or A-basin(Colorado), and I remember we got lost in the trees for like 4 hours, we ended up just hitting this jump over a little river over and over until someone rode by and we followed them 😅
I would not do this hike to hear that ice under foot. He should follow someone if doesn't know the run or at least the tracks. I freaked out when he took his board off no leash either OMG. the nose and tail guards mean its a rental. If you want to go sideways roll over never take your board off in Japan or Colorado powder you could be up to your armpits instantly.
To Maki, You clearly are not a skier or snow border. Your ski or bord a thousand meters down a mountain is a long long walk away. A run away ski descending at over a hundred Kmh slamming in to the back of another unsuspecting skier is irrisponible. May even lead to a prosercution of negligence if fatal. Some countries have an insurance based health care system. So neglect results in an insurance claim failing. Leaving the culprit with massive medical costs. Some guy receiving helicopter transfer and 8 months hospital treatment could be about a hundred thousand dollars. Just because you refused to wear a safety harness at a time when you should have.
I can not can deny this video had me on edge at times knowing something bad was soon to happen so high marks for suspense. That is all the high marks afforded you I am afraid. I don't know anything about snowboarding but use to ski when a young man back in the late 70's and so have to ask why were you alone when on a mountain with to known route to take down? Thats as foolish as going diving alone its just not done young man... learn from this as its pretty obvious you were very lucky as things could have turn out badly, very very badly. Life is pretty much all about that too in learning from experience and also our mistakes so learn to grow from them, don't repeat, to become wise....or you can just keep going your own way on the mountain and become one of Forrest's well known descriptions....stupid is as stupid does...choose wisely young man...

That is a great way of looking at life. When times are bad, search for what's good and right.
He did not have the experience to go there, you don't EVER sit down on your ass if you lose your edge.
Stance was narrow, too much toe, those edges weren't newly done, ALONE!
I felt scary just watching you begin since it didn't even looked like u had a plan.
Glad you're ok tho, you were lucky!

@@declanmercer2587 not to mention if you cant get an edge, you sure as hell arent going to grip with your boot. Taking his board off there without an ice axe or crampons was asking to slip.
@@svenyam Get on to your toe edge and use your rear hand (right if your normal stance) to balance if your losing the edge on a dicey surface.

I know nothing about snowboarding or skiing. The whole time I was asking myself, "this seems strange, does he know what he is doing?" I see from the comments, he did not.
I'm a pretty seasoned snowboarded and everything was indeed strange. Even the bootpack up our dude was out of his element. Honestly I wouldn't have gone up that without an ice axe in hand to self-arrest.

Lmao underrated comment
Holy crap jerry-o that was funny as shit!!!

He made the cut !
he had a rental board on.... who does that with a rental snowboard?
Lauren Chartier if u are talking about the edge protectors you can buy those for ur board
Chase 123424 he id clearly a pro, his moves and all
Him obviously
BurgurX Burgur nope. He s not a newbie, but that's all. Clear as day.
but who buys those, useless and ugly. and also that board is like 20 years old. if u want to buy that kind of burton board used it costs $20. u cant buy those new. my burton process flying v costs about $700 board and my bindings are $250
12:48 your fuckin welcome
You guys are fuckin welcome, no prob.

Steep with realistic graphics...
That’s his fault for being a dummy Sliding himself to the edge to much
how did he survive that wtf.
at that point, he knew he'd fucked up.
Rental board... advanced icy mt. Rocks. What could go wrong
Nothing wrong with a rental board however going off-piste when you don't know how to make turns is a bad idea
Any idea which crazy ass mtn it was?
I thought to my self “ this fall isn’t what I thought it was.” Then Immediately after the thought heard him screen and fall off the cliff. Great fall. Glad you alive dude
There is one rule always go snowboarding/skiing with friend so if something happens to you he can save you or you can save him remember be safe.
And then we can watch both of them fall off the cliff
@@SamUel-eb5zm that's a thing that my dumbass and my friends will do lol
Or atleast if you die someone call tell people whether it was rad or not rad.
Was he trying to kill himself? He was making stupid decisions the moment the video started.
holy shit man you're lucky to be alive, go buy some lotto tickets haha
That's all the luck he's gonna get for a while so no
Where the f is he going in the first place?! "I'll just start heading... mmm... that way." Christ...
This is like a great ad for a gopro, it never breaks and films everything
All these snowboarders acting like this guy attacked them personally by falling off a cliff😂
I also felt attacked personally and I'm a skier.
Skiing is a lot easier
@@Ls.swapped66 No, it's deff not...
Just asking for something bad to happen, people are morons. He spent the whole ride trying to figure out which path was less likely to kill him, sounds like fun to me.
I am utterly terrified of snowy mountains. I immediately get a panic response in my brain just watching these videos. So much vast space, extreme heights, nothing to hold onto, just snow.
thats why you gotta trust your edge... and NEVER take off your board in terrain like this like he did!!
I hope he is ok and I’m wishing him all the best and lots of health, happiness and love
The first 12 minutes of this is the most stressful thing I've ever seen. And the payoff.. That "Ahhhh" was awful. Glad you lived bro.
Was great movie! Just one recommendation: Warm up at the baby lift or blue slope before. Everything else: Just great!
Guys why do you make jokes and say what he should've done he made a really big mistake going that way but it was obviously an accident when he fell down I mean like nobody would fall down a cliff for no reason unless they've made the decision to and besides this guy was obviously hurt didn't you see his bloody lip I feel really bad for the guy and you guys should too instead of making fun of him
dopXesht Eh to be honest he was being kind of stupid but whatever

I have gotten this on recommended. I shall see you next year soilders

that scream at the end of the fall was so funny

Glad your ok! Thought you were dead, but was relieved to see ya get up. That scream gave me the chills
I love how he doesn’t make a sound when falling over/on top of all the rocks before he falls
that boy had no business being up on that peak... seemed like he came fresh off the bunny slopes
Why does youtube recommend me watching people falling of cliffs?
you should never have kept going down
This punter has no business being on this slope. This is the expected result.
For having wastes 12 minutes of my life waiting for you to fall I'm glad you did
+max Forsey SAVAGE!!!!
+IS DA VOG I didn't want to pass it or land on it and ruin it for me
ya it wasted my time they should of cut to the part when he falls
That's a selfish thing to say, saying you're glad he did fall for Wasting 12mins of your life? Yes they could have skipped to the fall but that was a very cruel thing to say
Its not a cruel think to say, look how stupid this person is :D obviously would have trouble to ride a snwoboard on the piste and he goes off all alone obviously doesnt have any clue about the path and cannot even find one when he's there at least. He can only be greatful that there wasnt enough snow for avalanches, because if there was the conditions and his riding would be just perfect for triggering one.
It's kinda weird how I'm just sitting here for 13 minutes waiting for someone to fall of a cliff
That's a waaaaay faster way to get down! Less traditional but effective
The piece of plastic on the nose of his board speaks volumes.
Why?
@@nikolassmithers4870 It's a rental snowboard and is not the right equipment for riding off piste. Especially at that grade. He very clearly inexperienced and should not have been there to begin with.
Ryan J oh ok I’m not a snowboarder by any means. But if you don’t mind what does that plastic mean and why would they only be on rental boards?
@@nikolassmithers4870 I'm assuming the plastic is to protect the nose and tail from damage. It's basically useless but it's on pretty much all rental boards for some reason. Most beginner snowboard are very flexible (which helps those who are learning) but are not good for steep, icy terrain like the run he was on.
Ryan J alright then thanks
Me: wonder what’s on youtube today
TH-cam Reccomended: “*_HEY WATCH THIS VIDEO OF A GUY FALLING OFF CLIFF_*”

Wondring why is was recomanded?🤔
this guy is not very good
Piano Masters ya he's shit and has no business being on this advanced of a mountain
Da Byrd You are an idiot or a troll. to be fair though it's probably both.
easy to say he's stupid but its an honest mistake that can happen to anyone without experience of the mountains (taking a lift and skiing through them quickly doesn't count).
Shaun Lindstrom trust me... last week I tried snowboarding it's very hard he is good at it but not amazing
I’m wondering right now, if I am the only guy that gets this recommended in 2020...
In a few month it’s over guys!

One bad decision after another...this guy makes me mad.
Still getting these types of recommendations in 2023, so see you all in 2025
First I was like he only slid down he must be alright then I was like:😳😳
the video starts at 0:00 your welcome
KārlisSeržants thanks bruh
Thanks for posting the video. I think it's brave to post a video which discloses so much wrong doing, which resulted in the accident. It is therefore useless to bitch about how stupid this guy is. More interesting is to ask what caused the accident (taking off the board on an icy sloap) and why it happened. Everyone who watches the video can learn a lot from it. And although it is long it is quite interesting to see how he moved himself from minute to minute into a life threatening situation. So surely worth the time to watch and to think about the cause.
he broke one of the only rules of snowboarding don't fall off of a cliff
What the hell was he thinking when he was leaving the track at 4:00 in a complete other direction?
Doesn’t look that steep on go pro
Never does.
Just like in steep the game
OK, let me explain the video. This dude goes to a rental shop and rents a board, for mountain boarding. Then with no plan as to what route he is going to take he goes on a nice icy part of the mountain. He takes off his board because he doesn't know how to board and moves one foot and plummets I'd say 100ft on rock and lands in some snow.
Why am i watching this at 2 am i dont even snowboard
Same it's 2:30am right now
LOL I was waterboarded once and felt this guys pain.
Falls at 12:50 ish... thank me later
No provisions or medical gear, no pick axe to arrest a fall. These dudes shouldn’t be out there
Legend says hes still in the mountains as of Feburary 2020.
At least he is self isolating
it's February 2021 and legend's confirmed he is there .
2022.. bro still there
February 2023 and can confirm, he has passed into myth now and is still on that mountain.
Thats a rental snowboard lol
Dee Gee jerry has no time to buy a board when he buys a trip to this mountain

Dee Gee button LTR I was thinking the samething haha

Dee Gee I was gonna say that ahhaha
The suspense is real
This guy is ass at snowboarding
😂😂😂
why step on ice thats been frozen for how long lol
Why’s this got so many dislikes? ARE YOU NOT ENTERTAINED?!
DS16 I think because it’s his fault for falling because he slid on purpouse
dude should never be anywhere near a mountain. 100% inexperienced with every single possible decision
It's okay. I've done that in Cool Boarders and all you have to do is wait for your character to respawn back onto the track with a time penalty
The cameraman never dies
A simple editing the footage so that a 30 second fall doesnt take 12 mins to happen would be nice
I’m liking both of these
the context was important and showed what turns guy made to get there. not everything has to be shortened to less than a minute for your short attention span
that fall is no joke. glad he is safe.
Patrick Bolger I was just gonna ask at what time he fell and then I just got to the part were he fell jeez horible
Glad I’m not the only one who was frustrated at the lack of a planned out route. No one followed him, no walkies from what I could tell, and the constant hesitation made it obvious there was no original route planned. Glad this dude made it out alive at the end of the day but this video was rough
99% of Jerry’s TH-cam videos are of him falling while getting off the lift, this is the 1% that makes it all worthwhile.
Woah.

I would not do this hike to hear that ice under foot. He should follow someone if doesn't know the run or at least the tracks. I freaked out when he took his board off no leash either OMG. the nose and tail guards mean its a rental. If you want to go sideways roll over never take your board off in Japan or Colorado powder you could be up to your armpits instantly.
in Oz up until recently you had to have one- ever seen a runaway board/ski ?
I wouldn't take board off at all on that icy shit
pweter351 your right their
pweter351 Utah too best snow
To Maki,
You clearly are not a skier or snow border.
I can't decide if you're being ironic or if you really spelled two words incorrectly in a three-word sentence.
I don’t anything about snowboarding, but it looks like there was a path he was supposed to stay on.😅
Lots of people trying to make themselves feel better about themselves by putting down the guy in the video in the comments. I’m glad you made it out alive, man!
