- Shows various skiers attempting to figure a reasonable route down one of the most difficult ski runs on the planet. Run often requires a 10-20 foot freefall.
Sure a lot of assholes in this comment section. Taking these runs slow is how you learn. Very few can bomb this their first time down. These Guys are pushing themselves and should be commended for that. Way to go for getting out of their comfort zone

Run is beat street and rutted out. Arm chair skiers need to recognize most are just spectating and moving on. Give props to anyone dropping in there on this day. I am sure the pros 2 days before were hitting it with freshies.

I dont know but for me the logical entrance is more left...pointing the stone to the left then turning right and your inside clean....there looks really shit
I'm no where near hitting this yet. Yeah maybe I could soon get to a point where I pull this off like some of these guys, I feel like they did just enough to say they did it haha
Advice: You just have to jump, trust your instincts, your brain works quicker than you can think to right your balance.
Honestly those conditions look like shit, super tight chute with hard snow with no space to turn, plus it looks like an exit ridge forcing a hard right. Honestly from where you're standing in the last half, it looks easier to make the drop from there. Yes youll come flying out with tons of speed, but if you can stick the landing without back slapping, you can line right up between those rocks and not even worry about getting stuck at that top bullshit part.
They didn't successfully ski it, they sludged down it...

@@ThatSB and what makes you think that! I primarily grew up at Whistler. Started skiing Whistler 70/ 71 season (yup I'm ol-der now)and still ski it. My biggest drop was roughly around 300+ft in the early 80's on my 225's(Atomic Arc-DH) I grew up knowing the McConkey's (Shane RIP, still in diapers) trust me, been their done that, many times. Employed by FIS (8yrs) as a co-ordinator for the men's World Cup Downhills. Trust me, me and my buddies did some crazy as shit in our days(too much to list, including losing two buddies in a massive avalanche on a back country trip). Trust me, big ski's rock!
Then realize that people are doing double backflips, 900s and intentionally airing into and down the rock face in the Kings and Queens comp. 😂
Granted they dont have the fucked up entrance from amateur side slippers, and that rock is covered

Absolutely.
One thing video can not convey is the massive buzz you get from doing these runs.
Standing at the top ready to go is like confronting a fire breathing dragon. Obviously you have to have a good skill set and fitness level to ski a couloir. On top of that you have to be confident of the fitness and skills you've developed and go for it. If you take it too cautious you will crash- just the same as if you go too hard. There's a right amount of aggression needed to not embarrass yourself.
On the other side if your not challenging yourself your just going through the motions. The perfect run for you is the one where it challenges your skills. Challenging your skills means your still able to ski it (lots of turns) -as opposed to just trying to get to the bottom/cheating your way down. If your just "trying to get to the bottom" then your over your head and your not going to get better. Skiing is really about the turns -lots of turns. Besides taking lots of turns is more fun...
Ive only ever skied at a few places close to home (western Pa) and they aren't very challenging. All of the runs are short and the blues are so easy, sometimes just going all out to the bottom is the only thrill. I always try to spend most of the days on the black diamonds which are only moderately long and difficult and focus actually skiing (lots of turning). But even those slopes are able to be skied straight to the bottom with few turns.
I really need to branch out. I picked a bad couple of winters to rediscover the sport. Lately I've really been craving an adventure out West.
Aside from the crazy entrance and the name, I almost wouldn't even consider Corbets a couloir. Take away the top and it's the easiest couloir I've seen. When I think of couloirs I think of Big Couloir at Big sky. Long and really steep flanked by rock walls. Like the many couloirs of Europe. At Alta they have the Baldy chutes which seem more like couloirs to me than corbets too.

This is how I forever remember this slope and how I choose to remember Jackson. Good moods, encouragement, cheering when you tackle Corbets well. One of my fondest skiing memories ever 🙂
Unlike Snake River Brewing later that night. FUN brewery, but nothing but ski hipsters bragging “you’re not a real skier unless...”
I was there the week before during a huge storm, and it made conditions dangerous to even go over there. So, I didnt get to ski Corbets, but had fun throughout the rest of the mountain. Thanks for the video!
We must be kinfolk, we share the last surname and we have both been smart enough to avoid Corbet when the conditions were less than ideal!
These guys have no business on that hill, crawling down the first chute. Lots of locals bomb that thing. It’s the initial jump that’s scary as hell. Trying to impress there boyfriends.
The fact that nobody make fun of all those awkward entrant suggest everyone is equallg shtting their pants and this is scarier than it look on YT

You obviously don't know how much skill it requires to sideslip at a 90 degree angle. They're pros in my eyes

What is the point of doing this if you are literally scared to death? Go to other side of the mountain and enjoy the day.. Unless you have no fear and have the skills to drop in it like a boss..! p.s: I am a good skier and snowboarder but I would shit on my pant before trying this.. and my experience has taught me Fear in my worst Enemy.. In that case I will try this chute the very last day of my vacation in case I got injured I do not want to screw my vacation and my investment in the first day of the season.
Theirs only one way to be good at that shit, and that's do it until you get good at that shit! That's the only way! (alcohol or by other means optional)

exactly my thought, if you gonna try it you gotta commit, sliding it down just puts you in an impossible position and is plain ridiculous.
JH is full of easier chutes to gain experience on. That is where most of these people should be. But Cobert's become a stupid brag for alot of people who do it badly once. If you can't do the Alta Chutes at JH, its pointless to try Corbets.
Don't get why everyone's complaining, so what if they side-step down the first part. If it's their first time it's a perfectly reasonable thing to do lol. Not everyone's gonna be able to huck it right from the top like most people in these comments.

I always enjoyed skiing the European high mountain adrenaline pumping narrow chutes all across Switzerland, France, Austria, Italy, etc!

I just wrote a reply to someone's comment, saying me and buddies would ski that kinda stuff on 220's. That first guy, was shitting him self standing there! Hesitation and bad ski placement (up hill ski pointed down, down hill ski pointed up) is a recipe for disaster. And it was!

what is the point of this video? let's watch terrible skiers sideslip down a run that is far beyond their ability. I'm a fine skier but I wouldn't ski a run unless I could actually ski it these people just make the run less fun for the rest of us

I really enjoyed this video. Clear, wide views, and it's just embraces the atmosphere of people around!! So many Corbet's vids are fast, very narrow angled (like no wide view), etc.
These people seem to love wasting everyone's time. If you can't ski, don't ski Corbet's.

I call that slipping. Try that on 207cm skiis. They shoild get rid of that rock in tthe summer.to make it a little safer.

I'm so old, I remember seeing Shane running around his dad's ski shop at Whistler(McConkey's Ski Shop) in diapers! It was sad to hear of his passing. RIP Shane.

My parents and I got to know alot of people there, including the McConkey's (his mom and dad) I met Shane when he was 3yrs old running around at his dad's ski shop (McConkey's Ski Shop). A good memory to have. I have also skied with the likes of Trevor Peterson (RIP) when we were in our early teens(waaayy back) One more mention. My biggest drop was roughly 350ft. I can still feel landing that one, and I'm 58 and still rippen it. RIP Shane, drop ins forever!

Geez. I had to follow my older brother and his friends into shoots like this at Snowbird, Utah when I was like 16 and had only been skiing for like 4 years. Forced to keep up and get better or get left behind.
Stopped in Jackson during a family road trip way back in 1999. Rode up the tram, and walked over to get a look at Corbet's. I was a pretty good skier 25 years ago, but even then, it looked insane.
Would like to meet the first guy who looked into this chasm and said "Yeah. This is definitely doable"😮

If you are going they above your skill just go all in... Avoid the steep wall and turn through rocks... Just jump strait ftom the top andavoid that hard part :D At both methods you are gambling!
