  • The Mustang GT has finally made a return with the mighty 4th generation Coyote 5.0! With an extreme refresh to the car, I was invited out to give my initial thoughts on the S650 Mustang GT and thankfully there's a lot to talk about. Does it live up to the overall fantastic legacy of the S550? Let's talk about it.

      Happy that its hanging around.
Grateful that it's keeping the V8 and manual options.
      But I despise that interior.
I'd rather spend the 50K+ on a slightly used S550 Bullitt or Mach 1. And I'd rather spend the $$$ for Dark Horse (Let's be honest, you are not getting one of those from a dealer for less than 70K) on a S550 GT500.
      Just MHO.

Mustang wasn't first. Plymouth had the Barracuda to market months prior to the Mustang. And if you want to get strict about the definition of muscle car, the nod usually goes to the Pontiac GTO, although an argument could be made for early max wedge Dodges and Plymouths, but those were too ugly to be successful.

He had a 1989 Corvette Greenwood Edition (the ZR1 of it’s day) and that car was SUUUUUPER fast and special. He traded that car for a Civic drag car with 500 WHP running in 10 second land on 93 pump gas. The Greenwood was valued at $18,000 in great condition, and I’d say he made a trade that worked for him! 😂

I don't like the screens. Or at least in the lower optioned GT's (where it's basically 2 separate tablets just stuck on the dash, which is also boring compared to the previous ones). I also agree that the design aesthetics of the car might be an acquired taste.
As you highlighted, Ford kept the best elements of the last generation, and added some hoonigan type of factory options, which was smart since the other V8 vehicles from Detroit are slowly disappearing, so the Mustang is kinda the last option for the US Muscle crowd.

I would say both Chevy and Dodge have completely moved away from their original styling and most importantly the heritage. Ford has kept their styling and initial heritage, it always remained a pony car, never turned into anything it wasn't built to be or came out of production once, a simple mix of a sport and muscle car. The camaro completely moved away from that and Dodge ditched a lot of it's heritage/brand image.

Such as being a muscle, pony or sports car ? Sure, heritage and styling of the interior all go together, but that wasn't at all the entire point. First off, it's kinda sad to brag that Dodge has had this long without a single change in the interior or the body styling, but fact is that body styling isn't what the original Dodge looked like or is even based around, look at every generation of Mustang, they all have something of the past Mustangs and or a retro styling that fits with the old school design clearly, the current interior is a modern interpretation, of course no old school car has massive screens doi... you didn't even address the fact that the Mustang never came out of production, didn't even address the fact that both Chevy and Dodge moved away from their original titles of muscle cars while Ford remained true to it's original title as a Pony car

If you have mechanical know how a clutch or engine work isn’t that bad and just time consuming more than difficult. Good review David, but I wish you went a bit more into details regarding what’s changed compared to the S550. Does the engine feel overall the same? Did you drive an automatic 5.0 and if so, how does it compare to yours? You mentioned it comes with “big brakes,” what size? 6 piston front Brembo optional? Rear still single piston? What’s standard, what’s optional? You said it hooks better, but didn’t say anything about tires or tire sizes, or suspension. Saw Pirelli 255 sized front tires in one of the shots, so the size looks the same as S550. Did Pirelli change anything in these tires? The seats. Are they the same as S550? Are Recaros powered, heated and cooled or still no? Interior has carbon fiber looking plastic, call it how it is. You mentioned you drove two different cars, blue and red. What’s the difference? Were they exactly the same? Same transmission? Definitely could’ve explained quiet a bit more about this new Mustang but overall good video!

Personally, I still like the S550 better.

I gotta go with the s550, unless it’s like a gt3 version of the s650

I remember when the 3.7L V-6 was debuted in a commercial I saw on TV. I remember being shocked at over 300hp and 30mpg highway. Shortly after I got a base model 2014 3.7l new for $18,500. I got it on the 4th of July and the salesmen stayed late cause I didn’t know I was gonna buy a car that day haha.

I just put Continental Extremecontact Sports on my 5.0 and they made a drastic improvment in the way the car handles. The original Pirelli P Zero Nero All Season tires have far inferior grip in any driving condition. I live in an all year warm area. So summer tires just made sense.

Those double throttle bodies look awesome, i like to see how a Blower is gonna connect to that :) One airbox has to for the blower anyways...
