Building a 9 Second 2024 Mustang GT in ONE Day

- The 2024 Mustang GT S650 has been out only a little bit - and yet people have ALREADY supercharged it and made INSANE power only on 93 octane gas. The guys over at VMP have taken their new supercharger kit on a bone stock Mustang GT and have run an absolutely obscene quarter mile time - so they invited me out to take it for a spin, and I was literally dumbfounded at the experience. I've driven over 1000 cars at this point, but this is truly something amazing. The 2024 Mustang GT supercharged is an absolute force to be reckoned with.

"you owe me a 10 second car" doesn't hold the same weight as it did 20+ years ago lol
@@MujinTougedang, you are right lol
Plz stop this now. Claiming 810rwhp on pump gas is insane and it’s lying to the customer
@@jacobsmith4753 He showed the dyno chart at the beginning. What are you on about? New cars are just a lot easier to make power on.
Doesn’t matter if you are a ford, Chevy or dodge guy, these 5.0s are some of the most insane v8s ever made.
I’m no there not
They are, but too bad dodge guys can't read....
Life long corvette guy - will never ever sell my c7 GS M7 heads/cam (550wheel on a mustang dyno) - but… damn ford is just killing it with the Stang. Even the interior has finally gotten really good. Bravo 👏 Ford. And I LOVE that this car will leave a lot of EVs out there wondering what just happened…..
Just traded my ls3 c6 for a new 24 gt and love it
Interior is improved, but it's just less bad really. I would be embarrassed of the quality of the interior when the shelby trims come out, because we know they will be the same. Imagine spending 100k+ on a GT500 with the same interior as a 25k ecoboost and comparing it to an actual luxury spots coupe.
@@scottgoldstein10I own a C7Z and I agree. This guy is smoking something if he thinks this interior is "really good". C7 interior will age poorly and it was never special anyway.
Not when they’re lying about octane and hp numbers

These Coyote engines are insane 💀
With a big ass supercharger most engines can do that. How long will it live at that power level is the question.
@@phillipstein9099 No most engines can't lmao

@@ebinbarrs9538people listen to these podcast and eat that crap up.
...and I remember the day I picked-up my stock 2003 Cobra in 2002. Over the next week tossed on pullies, headers, new exhaust pipes, flow-through cats and dyno tune. I was so excited... 475hp! Smoked those Camaros! NOW, she's still equipped the same (life got in the way. You know, new house, marriage, kids, collage, etc.) When I do take the snake out I avoid those newer factory hot rods because 475hp ain't much these days! One of these days I'll be packing a punch once again.........
I got the '03 mach 1. 305 hp and the "fastest n/a mustang ever" at the time. I got it into high 13's once. I still have it but bought the darkhorse. What a difference.
If you can't make the power to outrun the new stuff you can drop weight.
Those were the days and remember the C5Z($50k)guys puzzled when a
pullied/tuned 03 cobra walked them..
@@kevinfitzpatrick5949 sure. Its just amazing how we seem to be at peak hp right now. After the hp crash around 1971 it took 30 years to go from 200 to 300 hp. We went past 500 hp in 2016 with the gt350. Now the base v8 basically gets us there. Good times!
475 hp is still a lot for that weight.
Maybe not my place to do so, but I have something I can sorta add to all this!
I was at the VMP Open House, and I got to watch and listen to the dyno pulls. And I say "listen", because something that doesn't always come through on video?
This thing is LOUD. It absolutely sounds like 800+HP. But at low speeds or idle, it's really quiet? It's like this amazing Jekyll & Hyde switch, almost peaceful until the throttle is mashed. Absolutely nuts.
My Whipple s550 is quiet as hell till I'm on it. With ffe exhaust and headers. Coyote just run quiet.
Same. Mine is loud on cold start for about 15 seconds then calms down. It's mildly loud everywhere else but absolutely screams when 50% or more throttle. Stainless Works longtubes, MBRP Street Catback, MBRP H pipe, Has high-flow cats on it for now- will be removing them soon, just have to get the time and energy to take them off and hollow them out. Haven't found any nice delete pipes for my setup like Kooks and some others have, so figure hollow them out and just clamp them back on. No emissions testing in my state anyway.
I thought they used 93 with booastane to achieve that hp number🤔
You should really specify that it has Boostane with the 93 to make that power. Thats an important detail.
It's a safety measure would you wanna grenade with a tank of 93 that's actually 90? The computer is locked you can only datalog so it's not like you can add timing to make more power. Gotta trust the Whipple tune file is fat in the high rpms.
@@stangcobra592 whipples tune isn’t for the pulley they’re using. Also, they’re running Boostane they should specify that. Especially at that power.
@@stangcobra592lol if you think they didn't add boost or ignition timing with the boostane then you're the exact customer that vmp and whipple are looking for..... Telling people this car made 800hp on 93 then they buy the kit and it only makes 580 you're going to have a lot of mad customers...
@@Tuggernutz50 If I didn't think who added timing? Who's they? It's not VMP the tune file comes from the kit from whipple so I don't understand your question? And I'm the type of customer? haha. you have no idea.Been a Blue Ovaler for over 30 years, Our shop still holds the Outlaw 10.5 ET/mph record for a Ford powerplant. We got stables of door slammers up to Pro-Mod so yeah I'm the customer their looking for.🤔
@@Tuggernutz50pump gas sucks period to make big power with on these cars. It's a story as old as time with these cars with a blower, #7/8/6 gets a hole in it because of too much heat and detonation from one bad fill up. So you really need something to make big numbers like this without E85, or have it turned way down power wise. I agree that VMP should be more transparent about what exact fuel they're using to get these numbers. It's probably in some half invisible foot note lol. Or maybe it says "up to" 800whp.
There's a good reason the predator engine is around 10:1 compression versus these NA motors being 12:1. The latter is asking a lot from pump gas even without boost lmao
My new gt will be here fri. Than Whipple time.. says 810 total, but too the wheels is sublime.. I should catch a few people off guard.. 70k all in not bad . Great job on videos.. cheers..👍
careful, these numbers are overinflated. theyre running octane booster and cat deletes. you will not make these numbers on 93 straight from the pump.
Why are we pretending this is a “VMP blower” when it’s just a whipple with the VMP symbol and probably some tune developed by them.
I'd imagine it's a combo of both companies. I don't work for/with VMP, so idk what all they did with it, but I imagine that they could've changed/tweaked some of the dimensions or other parameters of the rotors/screws, casing, throttle body elbow, intercooler, etc. to fit how they wanted it to perform, instead of just going with whatever Whipple's stock blower does straight from the factory.
@@kasper_429 not so sure about that and most likely not the case. The ford performance blower has the FP name on it. It’s just a licensed whipple.
@@TheCdM1981 Lol whatever. Does it really matter that much? Yes, the core actual blower is made by Whipple, but VMP designed and engineered literally everything else in the kit that goes around the blower.
It's just like in the PC (computer) building world when you buy an AIO liquid cooler for your CPU. I'd say 90% of the units sold under the various brands (Corsair, NZXT, Lian Li, etc.) all use an Asetek pump block "core" unit for their AIOs, but they have their own radiators and fans that they attach to the Asetek unit. Same same with VMP, Whipple, and this blower kit. That's the first analogy that came to my mind because I'm a PC nerd and I'm currently planning a new build for this year, lol.
@@kasper_429 you don’t know any of what you just said. You just prior said that they probably helped build parts. I am under the impression the whole thing is whipple and they swapped the emblem. Only certain brands have permission from ford to actually tune the car. One of those brands is whipple. Not so sure VMP is in there at all. Unless the kit is less money than whipple I wouldn’t touch VMP over whipple. Especially if it’s their tune.
Same thing with Magnuson. The Odin package is just a Magnuson blower.
Not boosted from factory. No injectors. No catless LTH. No meth. Block still factory sealed. Stock driveline. Just a Whipple Gen 6 3L supercharger kit adding like 350RWHP😂 ON 93 OCTANE🤧🔥🔥.
Yeeeaaa idgaf what engine you put next to this. This is better‼️🤣
Mine made 800hp with 3 mods. Blower, Fore Fuel System (E85) and a tune. These shops are nuts running pumped gas on 12.0:1 Compression and just injectors. It’s not safe even with octane booster in the tank. Plus you’re not gonna put it in with every fill up. Next mod for these shops having a pissing contest to make the most power, melted cats.
It’s probably relatively safe with Boostane. You can raise the octane very high with it. E85 is still the clear choice but…
What year Mustang are YOU talking about? The computer is locked no tune available but the kit from whipple? And I'm sure their tune is fat up top since some dealerships will be featuring this blower kit as an upgrade.Yes dumbasses won't be religious with the octane boost but Justin and the Mrs. won't hit WOT without it.
@@stangcobra592 he's talking about his in his picture. The s550
@@stangcobra592 fat tune or not, we don’t get advertised octane out of the pump. Hell E85 stations I’ve tested (which I do on every fill up) never hit the advertised 85%. It’s worse in 91 or 93 octane (watered down) which is why they have to use a fuel addictive. Just injectors without doing anything to the fuel pump at 800+ horsepower at this compression level with catalytic converters is iffy. If owned a 2024 whipple GT, it’s getting a fuel system right from the rip.
@@sn95_mustang_garage not tunable fuel system would do nothing.
VMP did my 2012 GT/cs conv., Gen1 with the Odin. Everything is stock and I have shown many a challenger the rear of the car. It only hads 639rwhp but its still fast enough to kill you. But it is a perfect gentleman until you step on it!!
Love VMP! Keep up the good work Justin and team!!
Only 639whp? lol that’s a lot of power bro! Just because these newer cars can make 810whp doesn’t mean 639whp is nothing to play with lol
@@pilargarcis6027- That's what I am saying.
Had a 2v 99 GT in high school.. remember them just being fun cars but knowing it was slower than ls cars and many others at the time.. seeing this now, well couldn’t have ever expected that. 500hp factory out of a dark horse, over 800 with just a supercharger. Ford really is going all the way with the mustangs
lol I mean “one mod” being a bolt-on blower kit isn’t exactly just a singular item lol
I know right, it's a bit of a stretch to call this 'one mod.' How to run 9s in a German car: downpipe & tune
... You can call the kit itself one mod. All components required to make a full S/C setup. Wouldn't run properly or at all without all pieces. 1 mod, multiple components.
@@G82Jessebs comparison. BMWs are already turbo. This car *_doesn't even_* have a tune on it...
And I don't know of anyone who does *_"just_* downpipe and tune" on Mercedes, Porsche, or quite literally any other german brands but Audi and BMW... Your example is still also two mods...
Still way less complicated than a turbo setup. Then again people who spend the time to do a turbo on their Coyote usually do a whole bunch of other mods like headers, exhaust, and probably E85 tune.
@@3xeplodng_3agle_studios ? The VMP kit comes with a tuning device and OTS tune
its incredible how far we have come in terms of modifications in just the past 20 years. to bolt on a blower and pick up that much power is nuts.
Great video as always the new 24 is really going to be a beast when you are able to e85 tune it
Give credit to these 10 speed trannys helping to hit numbers in the low 10's high 9's...... Bravo bravo bravo !

What’s up with all of that smoke coming out the exhaust, looks like it ate some rings 💍
Could be the tires smoking.
Was thinking the same thing, maybe boost peak is causing some blow by? Wonder if VMP offers a warranty ?
The new mustangs are absolute beasts!
Watching the beginning of the clip, the rear view camera catching the tailpipes smoke puffs??… that engine is seriously knocking! Back out some degrees of timing!
Doesthe orange peel in the paint help with speed😂 golf ball effect
That’s pretty funny and on point 😂
That paint looked dry AF
Wow am I blown away by the goofys in the comments… even back to my gen 1 coyote… when you supercharged it on 93 you had to add torco booster.. adding octane booster to pump 93 cars has been the NORM for a decade… really showing y’all are brand new.
So is this now two generations of supercharger that VMP is outsourcing? Haven’t been following that well. I know one was a Magnuson and now this is definitely a Whipple 😂
So basically with these S650's Whipple was the only one given access to direct support from Ford for the tuning side. Everyone else was told to go fuck themselves, so now Whipple units have a monopoly for now and everyone has to use them
Modern cars are wild. The new M3 comps are running 9s with a tune, downpipe and e50.
Fords doing it right - the fact that the chassis feels that stable with that much power is amazing
I’m still debating on my upgrade, I’m not sure if I want a pro charger or supercharger but that VMP might be the winner.
It's not a vmp, it's a Whipple. Vmp just did the installation and tune...
@@gogetit1431 oh ok then that works I’m still on the fence about it but it may end up being the whipple
The fact that everything except for the blower is stock is kinda crazy. And they say the s650 sucks. I say it's a good car.
Hang on there now chief... something about this compression ratio + almost an extra BAR of pressure on pump gas don't make no sense. Someone's doin a little bit of fibbing! 😉
Wonder how it would do against FBO E85 S58.....
Way Sick 👍
Hah! I feel smooth snagging a Dark Horse and immediately ordering the FPP Whipple kit for it. I'll try not to die.
Are the ECU's unlocked yet for custom tuning, or is it tuned with a Ford tune made with whipple?
Only whipple tunes can run these now
Anyone know where I can get the headlights he has on his s550? I thought those were only for ‘15-‘17, but his is an ‘18 if I’m not mistaken.
So impressive. My C7 z06 is full ported heads, stage 2 cam, pulleys, 2 inch headers, 5 inch intake, e40 ported blower and I'm 895. Feels nothing like it did stock.
Side note, how embarrassing for Chevy we just recently got the ability to tine a c8 and still can't tune the dct. Bravo ford.
You still can't tune the S650, this is one of their partnership programs.
What’s the deal with that smoke while shifting 😂😂😂😂. Slap the whipple on💥
Does the gt have the transmission cooler and LSD cooler?
Awesome is the word.
Will it need the crank support ????
55k!? That thing is cheaper than the new Alpine A110! 🤯 No wonder everyone loves the coyote Mustangs.
Well done Ford USA. I'm flabbergasted.
Looks Great! I'm Manifesting I Can Buy A New Vehicle Just With Cash!
If it could actually hook up what would the 0-60 time be?
That place is so close to me in new symerna
Could I daily drive with the supercharger or would the MPG just be so messed up that it has no point?
How much for the supercharger kit?
So this is faster than the GT 500 for quite a bit cheaper, I’m definitely thinking of going in this direction!
maybe its cause the 10 speed auto but im convinced this would go way deeper into the 9s or even a high 8 if it has the proper drag tune with not much more effort
Easy sub 9.5 second car with e85 and a drag pack. Running 9.999 with the stock gt performance pack tires is mad impressive
The S650 is obviously refined from previous Mustangs inside and out. From what I'm seeing. The new Gen 4 Coyote seems to love running in the high RPM ranges and that's with the stock tune. Some tests I've seen show both the 10R80 S650 GT and Dark Horse shifting before the 7500 redline likely from Ford using a softer performance tune to meet EPA Carbon emissions and improved mpg due to the upcoming government fleet mpg increase. A fantastic 810 rear wheel horsepower S650 stock Stang with a bolt on power adder that looks like the perfect daily driver. Thanks for the ride along.
How would it work on a road course.
We can’t forget to mention the octane booster used. This is not on pump 93, it’s more like 100 octane. Essentially it’s a gen 6 whipple making 12ish psi. No true pump 93 car is making 800. Ever.
The smoke out the exhaust is a good indicator that the engine isnt happy.
Neither is the stock transmission in this power range. No negative input from David as expected I do like his videos on cars.
It's possible that the smoke is from the tires. I've been told that the stock GT PP Perelli tires will spin up to 110mph with a stage 2 Whipple.
@@johnoaklay4694 It's not on Pirellis, looks like MT ET Street SS.
Smoke puffs during a dyno run can indicate detonation but it looks like the smoke occurred at the very end of the run so it might just be a little extra fuel being dumped up top.
edit - OK, now I see the puffs at @6:35 in the video during the highway pull.
That could certainly be detonation.
Sees thumbnail: "Big fuckin' supercharger?"
Big fuckin' supercharger: RRRRRRRRRRREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

Haven't driven the new Mustang yet, but I doubt that the suspension and brakes are capable of handeling 800 whp. However, to me it is just amazing how much power you can get for such little money nowadays.
DH some of the best ever tested by C&D.
Condensation in the headlights? Second one I’ve seen on TH-cam.
And how long are the stock cats gonna last?
Not long! I went through 3 sets in 7000 miles, long tube kooks, green cats now
How much for the setup
You need to get some Steeda IRS braces. Literally just bolt on, no drilling or anything.
Hell yeah
I wonder how much the dark horse can make with the gt500 rods
Magnum part out?
So part out that magnum when???
Watch closely at the pull on the bumper camera at 7:25 It is chooching smoke out bad in 3rd, 4th, & 5th like a MF'er.. That is knock.. this is a time bomb if you run your car on this pulley with this tune.. And the 10spd trans is a time bomb no matter what when making over 700whp.. I destroyed 2 in 1 year, put the 3rd in, and sold the car..
Wish I could highlight this comment
Just bought a 2020 f150 with the Coyote. Im enjoying the motor.
Get a Lund tune asap, I don’t recommend the GT manifold unless you don’t care about the TQ. But I miss the TQ cuz you feel the torque more downlow and the HP you gain up top with the GT manifold. Just go intake, 4inch catback, Lund tune, you’ll shift better as well.
@@carlife_710 GT manifold is the fastest common Intake besides the gt350. I lost a small amount on 60ft but gained 5mph. It def made my truck faster. 12.1 at 116. Stock intake was 12.5 at 108. Notice a little driving around but the little bit of trade off is worth it.
@@carlife_710 the shifts in this thing sucks!
@@TwinTurboLsx I like the way my truck would burn tires from 1800rpms to redline lol with stock manifold now I barely get a squeak out of it but I do have a crew cab not a regular cab so weight distribution is different. The GT manifold pulls the whole way up tho for sure as to where the truck stops at 6500 rpm. But yes tune for sure needed due to stock tranny tune sucking ass
Dont mention the octane booster lol
I'm a lifelong chevy guy always will be, but ford killed it with this new mustang it looks killer
David, its not 810RWHP on 93 octane premium gas....
It was 810RWHP (standard corrected NOT SAE corrected) on BOOSTANE
There is a trend going on lately that needs to stop, these sellers claiming big HP numbers on 93, but you have to read the fine print to find out they used OCTANE BOOSTER.
Go ahead rag out your "810RWHP" Coyote on 93 octane, and see how many runs you get in before it pops while your knock sensors are crying for help.
Waiting for alex from lund to rip his ass lmao
@@spawn302 he already has 😂
people think the knock sensors will save them. They have to sense knock to prevent knock and any detonation is killing the motor over time.
His whole point was it made that much power with basically one mod, the blower. Adding octane booster to your fuel is not a mod so I think the main focus of the topic went right over your head. It wasn’t a build breakdown but rather just showing how easily this chassis makes and handles power nowadays
@@LouZ2 no it went over you’re head. I know you’re probably not in the ford performance community… but they’re selling this as a 800+ rwhp system on pump gas which isn’t right. They’re extremely octane limited and people who buy this thinking they’re going to get this power on 93 are going to be disappointed. Because it will be about 100 hp less.
Everyone talks about the Coyote, which is an insane motor, but the Whipple is ridiculous. This is the smaller supercharger. They have a 3.8L also.
Probably would want to look at upgrading the transmission, also if you're not taking it to the track regularly get the manual, a way better experience for a fun haver
Former mustang owner - thumbnail says "one upgrade", however, drag radials are an upgrade too....This is indeed impressive, however, a performance shop vs. your average joe is no comparison. 95% of people that buy a blower for their new 5.0 won't run 9's, unless it is perfectly dialed in and can hook, like this shop car is setup.
They always embellish everything
Dave, you sound congested as hell dude
Something's off with the S650, @7:26 when you went WOT, smoke started shooting out of the exhaust at high RPM's. Definitely not supposed to do that if its healthy
How much does that blower cost though? I've seen them cost ten thousand dollars 😮
What ECU?
But would you rather have the newer s650 or a s550 gt500...? 7:34
I think i missed it but what happened to 2013 smurf?
Pump gas with octane booster = not pump gas.
Yep. I can hear Alejandro yelling that 🤣
Let's see some dyno pulls.
How in the fuck is this video about BUILDING a 9 second mustang, more like a commercial for Ford and whippel...
2:04 that line aged like milk, it hurts 😭😭😭
The problem is trans and converter and axles… your gonna be doing a ton of mods soon. When you start breaking everything
Top speed still 155 since no tune?
How will it hold up with the manual trans
DH with the TREMEC for the MT win
we just gonna ignore all the smoke coming out the exhaust when wot 😂
That’s called knock, or pre ignition. Came to comments to say the same thing.
Dual intakes would look nice
"Who needs therapy?!" Not when you got a stickshift, baby! Can't wait to get me an R/T challenger.
Why a challenger? If speed is what you’re after, get a mustang or an F150. The coyote is where it’s at.
@TwinTurboLsx I'm a bigger guy. I've been in a challenger, and it offers me a better leg room. I also love the chop of a cammed hemi. I don't believe the Mustang does justice to what a "muscle car" is supposed to look like. To me, the dodge is the only one that's been able to replicate that old-school aesthetic if that makes sense. Don't get me wrong. I've seen what mustangs and F-150s can do, but they're just not for me.
I'm not surprised at all. Ford's 5 liter V8's are by far the best MA or boosted.
Not a Mustang guy, but it is impressive
How much is it to do this
Mustang bout the Mach 1 back but dam vmp an ford should get together an bring the Terminator Cobra back
So David is that state rd 415 or Mexico🤔😝
Helps that it was a performance pack GT!!
Lol everyone really promoting the whipple since it's the only boost option you can tune. Whipple is pretty smart
We can thank Ford for this, they decided who would get support and who wouldn't
