Peter says: I love the Springboks and rugby is one of my favourite sports. Although as a sports journalist I am supposed to remain neutral, I always like to point out that before I became a professional, I was just a big fan! I hold a Masters Degree in International Journalism so at least you know I should be able to ask a good question or two! My dream is to do this TH-cam Channel permanently. What I really enjoy about these interviews is getting to see the personalities of the guys. Seems like a wonderful genuine guy.

Thanks a lot Trevor. I try to give the guy space to tell their stories as they remember them. Obviously in some cases it works better than others but I think in Chris's case it was simply splendid! So happy I could get him on the show.

Very underrated for his contribution in RWC 95- he did the basics so well he was almost unnoticed

I always look forward to these interviews, but there was just something about this one I really enjoyed. Chris was thrown in the deep end after the Dalton suspension, and he acquitted himself well. He did the job that was needed on the day, and did not let the jersey down. What was so refreshing is how humble he was about all of it, and all these different stories from different players in the 95 team gives us these little tidbits of behind the scenes knowledge that has been a real treat. Thank you for the good work Peter, there are always a joy.

Thank you so much, Thomas. Really appreciate the kind words and I'm so pleased you enjoyed this one.
Agree Chris was thrown in the deep end but it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and he grabbed it with both hands.
I'm so happy I could get him on the show and he was superb value!

Another top-class interview here, Peter - thank you! I remember those days of Transvaal with the luxury of Uli Schmidt, James Dalton and Chris Rossouw all in its ranks. That "Huisgenoot" poster of James, Andre and Joost running side-by-side is one of the most iconic photos in Springbok folklore.

Always lekker hearing from you, Willie. That was a phenomenal side in 1993 and 1994 especially. They won everything and no one could beat them.
Haha, that "Huisgenoot" poster is iconic!

Thanks Peter - an enjoyable and refreshing interview. What Chris may lack in terms of fluency in his second language, he MORE then makes up for with his candour and modesty. You can say of his rugby career he was “in the right place at the right time” but - crucially, and decisively, (and as a lesson for youngsters in any field) - he grasped his opportunities and made the most of them. Chris is an inspiring example.

Hi Jan. Glad you enjoyed it. I think Chris was great in his second language and as you say his candour and honesty was superb. Exactly what we want in these discussions.
Yes, he was at the right place at the right time but he still had to grasp that opportunity with both hands and no one can say he didn't. A rugby world champion! No one can take that away from Chris.

Another great interview Peter- amazing how Chris went from 3rd choice to 1st choice hooker in a year! But good on him he seems a likeable bloke!

Hi Pieter. Was just wondering if maybe you could do a segment on 1987 and 1991 Rugby World Cups. IF....the Boks had been eligible to play and had not lost players due to isolation - who would the teams have been and how would we have done in each of those World Cups. Maybe you can get some old stalwarts like Morne, Naas and Nick to give their imput :)

      @frontrowrugby  6 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

Hi Mitch. Yeah, great idea. It's something I have wondered about myself. Just off the top of my head as I remember just briefly putting something together I think South Africa might have done quite well in 1987 but I think we would have struggled in 1991.
      But great video idea.
I'm not doing RWC stuff again anytime soon but I'm gonna keep this one for the future.
      Thanks for the suggestion.

Chris was a great hooker, he really took his chances well afer both Uli Schmidt, John Allan and James Dalton were out, shows the depth in the team at the time that a third choice player was still great enough to finish off the French, AB and Samoans...Humility and all, but take a hint Chris, you were destined to play the world cup final :D
