- In this video, I am going to show you how to install the final version of macOS Monterey on an Unsupported Mac (2008-2014). I am using the OpenCore Legacy Patcher Dortania to do so.
Here are some useful links:
Download the latest version of macOS Monterey here: mrmacintosh.co...
Download OpenCore patcher here: github.com/dor...
OpenCore Main page: dortania.githu...
Just write the problem in the menu bar and the answer will be there
I forgot to talk about a way to make sure you can connect to wifi on older macs like 2010 and older... if you can't connect to your wifi, just navigate to your network in system preference, than wifi, than advance setting, than and than manually add your wifi network by entering the ssid and the password and the security type and your good to go... of course you'll need to use a cable to be able to download the post install volumes patchs before doing so! sorry I forgot to cover it
I couldn't connect to wifi by any means, but after I connected directly via cable to do the post install patches. After that, the wifi worked perfectly.
I could not connect to WiFi. Please help.
@@davecottrell3044 hi Dave Paul here my Safari is not working as well after installing Monterey I don’t quite understand what you did to get yours working if you have time could you please send me a few more details……Thanks
So I guess I don’t get the part about doing the post install patches with the cable if someone could please give me some advice I’d appreciate it
After patch and add the wifi manualy , my wifi on MacBook pro 2009 is always no working. Anyone have issue ? Thanks
Following your examples gave me a flawless install on a mid 2012 MacBook Pro. Thank you for making it easier than a couple of other videos I watched. I will be doing this with my late 2012 iMac next, so thank you. It was the best so far and I appreciate it.
As a Mac collector? I like to keep retro macs in older macOS. Abut for people that cannot afford modern macs, and have to use the old ones, this method is great!
This method worked perfectly for my 2012 MBP, and I'm currently installing Monterey on my late 2012 Mac mini as well. Thanks very much for posting this!
How did it go for the late 2012 mini? I have the same and wanted to do it!
Update on Mac Mini 2012 pls haha
@@JamesAutoDude how was it
@@filmedbyseventh it worked fine for a bit but I had RAM issues that messed up the install 😂 I’m just using it as a BlueBubbles server now.
@@alex7344 how many GB is your RAM? 😅 I want to try it but this will be my first time if ever
Thank you so much!! This step-by-step video is *really appreciated*. I want to add what happened for my 10,1 mac: after patching I still had graphics problems (like: Cannot change the screen resolution, laggy graphics, etc) - so I ran OpenCore again and this time "unpatch system volume" and then "patch system volume" again for the 2nd time. Then it worked. Thanks so much!
Thank you, I managed to upgrade my OS to Big Sur, from Lion, Just that I had to do it in order of release, first High Siera, Then Catalina, then Big Sur. Your videos really helped me along the process. Now im being prompted to upgrade to MacOS Monterey. lets see how this goes. oh I use a Late 2011 Macbook Pro 13-inch. thank you once again, now I dont have to go out and buy a new Macbook
Works on MacBook Pro late 2013. Very grateful for your wisdom
It's very helpful Dear. Thanks
My mac is imac 2013 and it's perfectly working good
I haven't had any problems before, but now I can't used my Bluetooth on my mac anymore. I keep receiving the message "preference error could not load Bluetooth preference pane" and have looked all over the net for a reason and resolution with no luck. The Patch doesn't seem to help either. Any ideas?

Sorry, but I had to comment on this. It made me laugh alot!
Not meaning to make fun of you, your English is phenomenal and you explained everything in this video in a clear and understandable manner. Not only that but you clearly know what you're talking about. I've came back to this video many times during the installation process. Merci bien mec!
Thank you so very much for this video! I already knew how to do this stuff but without watching this video, I was very nervous about doing it on my sister's computers. She would've killed me had I messed it up and I like my life. Lol. Thanks again for this. Everything works perfectly! Brand new computers for 2:30 hours of work. Well worth it! Thank you again and again! People, watch this guy for any further videos, he knows what he's talking about. :)
As previously, I'm having an issue making the USB drive a boot drive - there's some permission problem that stops Terminal from finishing this procedure. "PermissionError: [Errno 1] Operation not permitted: '/volumes/EFI/EFI' [1081] Failed to execute script 'OpenCore-Patcher' due to unhandled excepetion!" I just tried another USB drive (2TB), same outcome. Any tips?
Same….
Any help so far?
@@MynameisCilo I tried a relatively new instructional video (by the Mac dude - "Mister Macintosh"? - who is mentioned in this video) and had the same issue(s). But finally... It took a few more tries, but for some reason it finally worked - I didn't do a damn thing differently. There are updated GUI and TUI protocols as well. So I would say if you're having the same issue, just go back to Square One and run through the process again with the newer instructional video.
On a related note, once I got the updated version of Monterrey installed, I was prompted to update to the newest OS, Ventura, and it worked! Seriously - OS Ventura on a 10-year-old iMac. Crazy...
@@garyanderson4653 okay ... Thank you so much... I just have to keep trying... I'm motivated... I hope it works.... 😀😀
Je vous remercie for this easy to follow video. You helped me successfully get Monterey on my late 2012 Mac Mini so that it’s life has been extended and all my Macs are on the same OS version.
Just want to say that your videos are really helpful! I think this video is the easiest and the most detailed video that I can find on TH-cam. Thanks a lot !!!
thx!!!
Thanks so much! Upgrade without losing a single file worked like a charm for me on an Early 2013 MacBookPro (Model A1398, 2.7 GHz, Intel Core i7, with 16GB DDR3). IMPORTANT: Once I instaled the OS (Monterey v12.4, released a few days ago) I experienced a strange screen resolution issue: it didn`t let me choose anything else but a single 2880x1800px resolution, so the icons and everything became a miniature, and also the Graphics were running extremely slow...even during the last steps of the OS installation... the delay was unbearable... So, I tried then patching the Graphics and reboot. Once it was done I got a perfect resolution for the 15-inch Retina display, and the delay was absolutely gone. It worked perfectly for an INTEL HD Graphics 4000 1536 MB. Basically, followed every single step very precisely and BINGO! Thanks a lot, man. Excellent tutorial!
thx!!
Awesome tutorial, thank you so much. Installation was so easy thanks to your concise instructions.
Great job in explaining what to do! Everything worked like a charm!
thanks!
how to disable SIP or access recovery mode by this open core legacy? because I installed on my macmini 6.1 and I can not disable the SIP , could you help me ? I'm using monterey 12.4
Thanks man I’m using 2012 MacBook Pro and just installed Monterey. I could buy a new one but it’s still running pretty smooth… this is the reason why I don’t bother to get a new one. I’ll just keep my money 🤷🏻♀️
Very helpful and well explained. I did it on an iMac 27 inch l2009.
Thanks for the guide, works great!
2013 MacBook Air 13 inch
Thank you for your efforts
I will give this a try on my macbook pro 15 mid 2012.
Will it work properly without issues?
Hi, I just didi this installation, but I have some problem with the graphic about some colours disappear and some icons are not showed as they should be, I have a iMac 2011. I did every process in this guide even the post installation
Same here it’s fine till it hits a sleep then coming out graphics messed up
Thanks dear I followed step by step it’s it worked thanks for the effort
This is one of the best TH-cam tutorials that I have seen. Very clear and detailed. Thank you so much!
Hello!!Need Help!!macbook air 11 2010
I do everything according to the instructions, hangs on the installation when 12 minutes remain and reboots, then a white screen, I tried many times, what's the problem ???
when i go unto then place where you have to hold option after reseting, i followed the steps you did to load “install mac os” but then the bar gets stuck in place. please help
Salut Alexandre, le fichier TUI n'est plus disponible. As-tu une autre solution ? Merci pour ton travail !
Great job dear friend. I had earlier updated m y iMac late 2012 with NVIDIA GeForce GT 640M to Monterey 12. Yesterday I had updated my iOS Version 12.2.1. But upon Update, to my surprise, Google was not playing movies in TH-cam properly, also iMovie was not opening and though Bluray player plays, no video is seen. Then again I saw your video and updated /patched my Graphics card only. Upon patching the Graphics, my iMac started working fine with all videos. Once again my sincere thanks to you.
Working my way through the upgrade. In the video around 2 min where we show all devices and then erase the old USB information, I'm wondering is this going to affect the USB that I inserted into the computer? I dont want to erase any of the data or documents currently on it.
Just updated my MacBook Air 2012 and it is stunning 😍 thank you 🙏 a great tutorial very understandable!
Excellent video, I might attempt this. I guess my question is what about regular security updates that you would normally get from a supported version?
I know if you don’t do any updating on a supported Mac thru usually gets really slow and jittery like the email.,
So once you install this are you stuck with this version of Monterey until another one comes out?
I guess another question I have is, What would of happened if I were to use carbon coffee clone in and clone my and one pro MacBook Pro operating system and just install it on the new SSD in the 2012 iMac?
Would that work since I’m not trying to install it on the system with it or rain the computer so it doesn’t know that it won’t work?
Do you see what I’m saying? I’m totally new at doing this stuff so that’s why am asking.
Need some help I install Monterey successfully but certain problems not opening when I download them
Couldn't get it to work on a late 2012 Mac mini. Just gives me prohibitory symbol and when I restart it doesn't do anything but hang on the apple loading bar and end at the prohibitory symbol 🙄
Thanks man. Super good tutorial. I'm now a subscriber! Thank you very much
I wonder why, when I try this, my Mac gets stuck on the loading screen after I get to EFI boot>Install MacOS Montery.
Danke, Thank You and merci, it works on my 2012 MacBook Pro 15 retina. I had to repeat the graphik Patch after monterey update to 12.2.1 and propably have to repeat it after every update.
???? Hi I got a 2011 macbook pro 17 inch how can I get latest version of mac os as of 2-8-2022 on this device with no os installed clean os install. ????
Hi this work brilliantly thank you only thing I want to say is the camera ain’t working now any ideas of why?
“You will see numbers”
It’s called ‘log’ information, it can be useful for diagnosing or just to see what’s going on behind the Apple logo.
I have a mid 2011 imac, I5 2.7. Shows as a 12,2. Having no success getting Monterrey on it. Which installer version do I use and which open core version? Thank you. Cheers from Toronto
Hi! I need help! I used your procedure for the same Imac you had (late 2012), at first it worked, now i updated Monterey and i did the process of patching again (for the graphics effects) but something went wrong, now my computer never start, it continue to reeboot and show me the login interface. I entered in the safe mode but now I don't know how to fix it.. Do you know what it could possibly went wrong???? Thank you so much!!!
You’re the best and thank you so much for helping and this video 👍🏻
I dont undersand here . I did - terminal montery install on USB disk.. then you did again install on USB disk the open core patch? You need 2 usb then or how??tnx
Can someone please help me.... my mac won't update... Each time when it's on a black screen apple loading screen it gets stuck when it's says less than a minute.. it isn't freezing but it just gets stuck. And it won't recognize any internet... Not even my neighbos wifi. I seriously need help. If there isn't a way to fix that then tell me how I could stop all that process and go back to my own. I have a mid 2011 iMac intel.

I currently have Catalina on my late 2013 iMac. I want to install iWorks but it won't let me. Will installing Monterey help with installing the lastest apps?
Hi, I am having trouble installing the software on my Mac 21.5 in 2010 and its stuck in section 10:38. The bar is just been sitting in the same place ALL DAY. Any thoughts?
Hello brother, i'm still getting error even i format the disk to make a fresh install , can you assist me please? i've imac late 2012 27Inch

Should I have any issues by installing macOS Monterey on my iMac 12,1 mid 2011, with AMD Radeon HD 6750M 256MB?
I couldn't install new Final Cut Pro version in 2011 iMac where I installed this open core patch Monterey
Thank for the Great Explanation. It worked very well on an iMac late 2012 27´´! I have now an iMac 2011 middle 27´´with AMD Radeon HD 6970M. Which Graphic-Patch do i have to install?
@JADE GONZALEZ RIVERA I read lots of diskussions, forums, etc. There is no way to Install Monterey without upgrading the gpu. Its a pity, because the 2011 iMac is a great machine. I installed Monterey once, it "worked", but the graphics worked horrible so i had to do a Rollback.
If I do this to my iMac 2011 i7 1 t hard drive 32 g ram will it allow me to purchase applications like the new Logic Pro and will I be able to use it for music production still and be able to update all my programs pro tools auto tune etc
Thanks for everything (as usual all is clear). Will you have a new video to explain how to upgrade from Monterey 12.01 to Monterey 12.1 (on unsupported mac) using Open legacy Patcher 3.1 or the latest 3.3 ? Do I just need to update Open Lagacy Patcher on my computer (Mac Pro 5.1 with Metal Card) and then apply a "normal" internal upgrade to Monterey 12.1 (previously 12.01) OR do I have to start EVERY THING again : to create an USB Bootable - To Update with external USB and a clean Install (asfer erasing everything). Do you know anything about best way to proceed ?
Received an old iMac early 2013 (not my main machine) is it possible to install this on an external ssd? the internal one is dead. Thank you!
I keep getting it cannot install at this time. install because it requires downloaded information that is not available. My wifi is working.
Everything has gone to plan so far, I’ve done the part where u stop the glitching and now I can’t login like I will enter my password and it will keep asking me for my password, can someone please help
I got stuck at 60% "Making disk bootable..... Copying to disk: 0%..10%..20%..30%..40%..50%..60%... " What should I do? Pls help
I keep getting a unable to initialize graphics error. Won’t let garage band run. Any fix?
Hi mate i am getting one issue after installing it it shows the hard drivebthen tap on it then it shows the password for my mac
Uou don’t need any graphics patches to run Monterey on 2012 MBP. I have installed it with open core legacy patcher and succesfully used. There are some changes in Ventura though, but Monterey installs and works flawless.
Mine did not work are you using mid 2014 iMac
well done!!! One of the best out there! Really clear!
THANK YOU!!! Everything went great! You are awesome!
Hi, please help me to upgrade my mac pro 2009. Currently run on high sierra , 1 ssd and 1 hdd
Thank you for your help. I installed the software successfully. But now the graphics are bad. For example the sides of the Dock-bar are very ugly if you know what I mean. I tried the Post-Install Volume Patch but it said I my machine didn’t need patches. Do you know what is should do? I’m using an iMac late 2013 i5 8gb ssd. I’d be so happy if you could help me
Hello,I want to know that, macOS Monterey on an Unsupported Mac,it is safety?
Just installed on my mid 2010 white macbook - its faster than catalina. Many thanks
thanks!!! I know right... legit Big Sur and Monterey are faster than older version on old macs with SSD
Hey Bryan, did you install the Monterey right from your Catalina or did you need to upgrade to Big Sur first?
I am about to do this with my mid-2012 iMac, after I do this will future updates install correctly??
After the installation starts it keeps on re-booting but I cannot choose the HD anymore, I am left with the option EFI or MacOS Install or Monterey Install
I have an iMac Late 2012
Can you help TQCB please?
Great Video, thank you very much for that. It worked flawlessly. Now I have a question: How do I proceed if I want to install an Monterey update? Same thing from the beginning with the USB Stick? Or do I need to do it differently since I have installed the patcher to the HDD? I did not get the reason why we are installing it on the HDD,
no you can just upgrade normally like a normal mac most of the times
I Just bought a Nividia Metal GTX 675MX graphics card already flashed with Boot Screen, Boot Menu and brightness control, will Legacy patcher work with this card or will it affect the flashed card??? I Have a iMac Mid 2011 A1312
I just patched I’m mid 2011 a1311 iMac currently have no volume nor does the speakers show
hey there! everything worked fine up until i restarted the laptop and go to click on Monterey to upgrade and click continue it says "unexpected error". tried restarting and says same thing :( im on a macbook pro late 2013
Thanks for this, question, is there any issue with using Migration Assistant to move over from a TimeMachine backup other accounts to add to the newly updated Mac? Any issues with using Camera or any other Mac functions when doing this? Cheers.
what if you update and it requires legacy patcher?
I would like to know if there is an acceleration patch for an NVIDIA GeForce GT 775M 1 GB? It has lag on it at the moment and the patches in this video only work with the older models. hope there is an solution :) All the rest worked perfectly ;)
Great step by step tutorial. Wonderful job. I Like it. Seamless update to Monterey iOS in iMac 2012 later could be done including update patch for my Graphics too. Fantastic video. Thanks a lot my dear.
Thanks for the video!. I am trying to update my mac mini 6.1 using Open legacy patcher 0.4.5 and macos monterrey 12.3.1 and on the 12 minutes mark, getting an error “an error occurred while loading the update”. I have try searching online and try everything but still stuck there. I have also created another drive with the macos 12.4 but the same. Any thoughts?
work on iMac 21,5 mid 2011 graphics Radeon HD6750m procesor intel core i5 and ram 16 gb ?
After I restart the computer it’s not working with the options button
Good afternoon! Great video and learning lesson, however, the open core-legacy-patcher page no longer has the open core patcher you state to download. I have download the source code (zip), source code zip file called (tar.gz) named open core-legacy-patcher-0.6.7.tar folder, Autopkg-assets.pkg (computer warns me not to install) and opecore-patcher. Could you please assist and advise. Thank you
Searching a bit more, I have located the older chanelog .0.45 that contained the TUI file and now I am proceeding forward 🙏
Just finishing the install on my mbp 2011 ...rebooted once...put the apple logo with a scrollbar with percent complete...says under a minute left...been that way for >20mins....is that normal? should I just leave it?? if so, for how long??
No "Erase All Content and Settings" option after installed on my imac 2014 do you have any idea thanks for the video
Everything went well except for the transparency. For some reason it glitches all the time on safari, music, and when messages pop up on the top right. Is there a way to fix this?
Hi I’m using a late 2009 27inch iMac after installing everything including the patch my screen gets very distorted whenever I’m changing apps or moving my mouse anyway to fix it ?
The only machine I have not been able to get this to work on properly on is a 21.5-inch iMac 12,1. The colors just keep strobing after restart, no matter what I do. Unlike on my 27-inch, ResXtreme and SwitchResX are not having any affect on it. I've looked all over on OpenCore. Have I missed something there? Thanks.
Hello TQCB, thanks for the detailed video. Tell me please, is it possible to install Monterey on top of Catalina without upgrading to Big Sur first. Because Mr. Macintosh instruction says that "The InstallAssistant.pkg is not available for Catalina or Mojave" Any advice?
I successfully installed Monterrey on my late 2011 iMac. It tells me I can update to Ventura, but I am afraid to do the upgrade. Help! Is it safe to upgrade to Ventura?
Hi buddy,
is it possible to get future updates in the settings menu, after the patched Installation?
Ciao sul mio Mac Pro Early 2008 l'installazione si blocca a 12 minuti rimanenti sai come risolvere ? grazie
Thanks I have a iMac 2008 and a MacBook pro 2009 so I will surely give this a try
Looks a bit complicated but your instructions seems to be very good
And so I guess nothing to lose
Like they say no pain no gain
Thanks again
yes!!! it's not that bad actually!!!
Fairly straight forward. Keep the video open while you patch follow step by step no problem
my macbook pro(13 inch retina) is now a 42 inch display. Can anyone help?
why my camera is blinking a green light its a macbook air
I've been trying over and over but there's something make me fail... I'm using an external usb ssd, and trying to do the process in order to install Monterey on it. Is that possible?
hi buddy, how are you? if we used the Ben Sova's patcher for Big Sur, we cannot simply upgrade, but erase everything. Correct? so all app such as Adobe Ps or Lr must be installed again. A Time Machine back up is not enough, right?
you can install big sur with opencore, than upgrade to monterey... it's a new way to do it without any reset
@@tqcbloltigerflash-1087 thanks bro… do you have a tutorial?
very good tutorial as always
Thanks everything worked great. One question, I checked and it said I now have a update For Monterey to Macos 12.1. Should I let it update or block it?
