I wanted to thank you for posting this video. I successfully followed this video to upgrade my MBP 4,1 from El Capitan -> Monterey. Curiosity did get the better of me, and I performed an upgrade from Monterey -> Sanoma. As mentioned in the video, my machine also got stuck once on the apple boot screen, and I also got some weird error from the mac installation assistant later on in the process. However, what I found was, if I kept rebooting the laptop (several times), the upgrade would eventually complete, despite the issues along the way. Unfortunately, Sanoma runs very slowly and the bluetooth process would crash every 3 minutes. I did a little troubleshooting, but ultimately decided to go back to Monterey as the performance was much better.
@@Memory_Gatherers i was asking which MacOS version is recommended for the early and late 2008 version on other video talking about the same topic, but installing Sonoma The sweet Spot is on Monterey, they said.. for the 08 version, pre-unibody or unibody one I guess its true after all
@throttlebrah monterey is operational on the 2008 and can still go online etc ok. My 2009 pro though I leave on snow leopard offline and for firewire capture and runs lovely. I'd say stick with monterey on the 2008
@@randomcat9441even if its possible, its still an tethered downgrade. that means you need to use your computer to boot your phone everytime the phone dies or reboot
Wow. I can put new life into my late 2008 MacBook Pro. Thanks for this !

Did you use an external keyboard and mouse?
@@DAMCARTER1For the upgrade to Monterey, I did not use an external keyboard and mouse. For the upgrade to Sanoma, I did.
does it really monterey runs good on this machine?
He has. Returned after 5 months
Mine finnish the install but doesn’t want to boot into the macos after. Its stuck on the apple logo with the loading bar
Just installing Monterey on a 2008 MacBook unibody have to see how it goes
So? Any status?
@throttlebrah works fine with cheap ssd. Tbh may even get away with ventura but monterey adequate.
