Never been a TH-cam commenter but this time my selfishness wasn’t enough to not show my appreciation. Very few times have I come across a tutorial so well articulated and easy to understand. I gave life back to my 2011 iMac that would’ve kept collecting dust for decades to come. It’s infuriating to think how Apple strategically restrains you from updating your old systems so you would buy their new ones. Truth is, Monterey runs smoother than ever in my 10 years old mac and I couldn’t be happier to save money instead of fuelling Apple’s wasteful system. Kudos to you! 👏
I assume you’ve upgraded your hardware to an SSD and more RAM? The average user doesn’t do that, and I think that’s why updates get cut off after a certain point. I can’t imagine it would run well on a spinning hard drive with four gigs of ram like you find in those older systems by default. Edit: tried 4GB of ram in my 2012 MBP, with an SSD, and maaaaan was Catalina much less responsive, my guess is due to the page file being used quite a bit. Went back to 16GB lol
Dude!!! I've watched THOUSANDS of tutorial videos over the years for several things from fixing a drone to changing a radiator fan in a Mercedes and this has got to be BY FAR THE BEST tutorial video that I have ever seen. The directions are easy to follow and you didn't leave out any steps. You have no idea how happy I am that my 2011 iMac has received a breath of fresh air thanks to you!! I feel as though I may get a couple more years out of it!!! Thanks again for this AMAZING video presentation!! 😇❤ BIG KUDDOS !!!
It's extraordinary the work you and the collaborators are doing on this project. Insane that we get to keep using decade old hardware with the latest software updates. Thank you thank you! The video is perfect and opencore is phenomenal. Never would have thought the process would be so buttery smooth. Mind blown seriously!
Finally, someone who does a good walkthrough. 1 thing: if you don’t have a boot screen compatible GPU: before installing Monterey, remove all drives BUT the USB installer from the Mac and reset the NVRAM. It will then boot from the USB.Then turn it of, add SSD and turn on, you can install on your ssd
I know another individual said this but I too was so impressed with this full walk through. Our 2011 iMac hadn’t been used for some time (ahem.. maybe 2-3 years) and I was a little disappointed to find that some software we now wanted to use did not run on the OS and of course the standard updates no longer offered a path forward. A couple of hours investment and we now are back in business. Thank you Mr Macintosh and all the OpenCore support folks. More è-waste avoided for a little longer.
All clips vom Mr. Macintosh are without an exemption an example of informative, calm, structured and unagitated tutorials. I wish all the self called experts on YT would produce their tutorials at least 1% as good and professional as Mr. Macintosh. Thank you sir.
I literally just completed updating my 2012 Mac mini to Monterey 12.6 using your guide, went by with zero issues. The latest OCLP 0.6 is a beast and makes everything much easier than before! I updated my 2012 MacBook Pro to Ventura earlier this year as well. I'm so grateful that OCLP and your channel exists. These machines are still capable and it's nice to be able to breathe life back into them. I'm not your "perfect consumer" and I always use the stuff I buy until I really can't use them anymore.
Thanks so much for creating this video. It saved a perfectly adequate 2011 27” iMac from landfill as its last supported MacOS, High Sierra is too old for many of the major application vendors to bother with. Followed the hardware disc and memory upgrades and the video was just perfect to lead through the patch to upgrade to Monterey. I simply wouldn’t have done it without Mr Macintosh’s’ guidance. Now, my “useless” Mac is perfectly adequate/fast for every day to day tasks.
Same here pal! Mid 2011 27" Imac, Same Machine, saved from trash thanks to a combination of guides. This guide, was the last step ( Software ). If you can and have the same machine, spend a couple of Euros and Upgrade it, mine feels like a brand new machine! 32gb ddr3 (4x8gb) + Nvidia Quadro K1100 (2gb) + 512gb SSD, been using for graphic design works like a Charm, only thing left to update is the airport card ( but since i dont use airdrop, it doesnt really make much difference to me ). Long Live Mr Macintosh!🏆
@@limafabioo hi! do you have an idea what should i do? i have an imac mid 2011 with 12gb ram, i7, 512 ssd and radeon 6770m i already erased my hd but when i want to choose the disk for install it says 'An Error Occurred While Preparing the installation" i need help asap ://
Same here man! Got this 2011 27" iMac for the sweet price of £100, it came with 16gb ram and a 256gb SSD, it also has a 2TB data drive that I do time machine backups on. It runs flawlessly, maybe in the future I will change the thermal paste because it does run quite hot, but for now it works perfectly!
It worked like a charm for my mid 2009 MacBook Pro. I added more RAM and put in an SSD over a year ago and my computer has been working better than ever so I was very frustrated that I wasn’t able to use it for certain things because of the outdated OS. Buying a new MacBook seemed so wasteful considering how well my old one works. This was exactly what I needed to get more life out her. Thank you so much!
I have a 2009 Macbook Pro as well just lying around. I've been playing around with some Linux distros to revive it. My favorite so far has been Pop OS. The problem I have though is compatibility with the nvidia graphics causing weird issues like some apps crashing and other functionality not working. I'm wondering if I should give OCLP a try. I'm curious about your experience running Monterey on it. Are apps and animations sluggish? Are there limitations?
Very well done! A big THANK YOU to Mr. M for his fantastic presentations and to the Devs for their phenomenal and much appreciated work! Just installed flawlessly on my mid-2012 MBA. I'm so pleased that I paid extra for 8 GB of RAM at a time when 4 GB was considered more than enough - always buy more RAM than you think you'll need! ;)
Awesome news Simon!!! I'm glad everything worked out for you, I also agree on the memory part when it is soldered to the board get a little more than you might need for the future 😀
Damn, you are doing gods work! Thanks for keeping is up to date on the patcher with changes, common problems and fixes. Love these chapter markers. Also thanks a lot for adding more pauses in the video. Much more enjoyable to listen to the video - much appreciated! 🙏
Wow, who would have thought this was even possible and kudos to the whole team. Saved another iMac from the dump. After following your video the late 2014 iMac is flying again. Thank you ever so much.
I'm doing some volunteer work for a small non-profit and this video has saved them thousands of dollars by utilizing older mac's for just a little longer - Thank you!
perfectly good ....(..until there are no more parts that is) everyone gonna DIY? I doubt it... not with the amount of glue, and time, and patience apple restricts people.. We're living in a throw-away-society...., Gotta get used to that.. Even though iFixit and all are all about "just keeping old hardware alive" they also know its never gonna stick. If they don't know that yet,, they'll be fighting for the rest of their lives.. While there have been some interchangeable parts of later iPhones, everyone will just need two accept, your never gonna be living in 2010 again.
Hope you know the work, you doing here is absolutely remarkable. Especially taking time out of your day to help people. The work you do is just amazing. Thank you @Mr. Macintosh
Never in my life have instructions been so exact and easy to understand. This worked perfectly. Your tutorial is outstanding. As is the software. My 20011 Macbook Pro thanks you for another life. It's been stored away for over a year. Now its running 12.6! I can not thank you enough. So I will Super Thank You.
This is a truly remarkable piece of work. I am the least technical guy I know and the sense of accomplishment I feel is fabulous!! Thank you for a wonderful, well organized and completely understandable tutorial!! Now my 2009 Mac Pro has upgraded processors, is converted to a 5,1 with the latest firmware...all thanks to a couple of other wonderful tutorials but now I am running Mac OS Monterey on a 15 year old machine.....which allows me to run X-Plane 12 Flight Simulator. Tomorrow I am considering curing Cancer and Multiple Sclerosis ! No telling what I can do on Tuesday!!
Dcrodwell, I am hesitant to attempt this on my 2012 iMac. I love my 27” clunker and really don’t have much in the way of tech savvy…..so little that I had to first research what “open core legacy patcher” is🤣. I’m I beyond help? I can follow instructions, but if ANYTHING was to come up differently than this instruction, I’m lost….thank you
I had an old macbook mid 2010 which i was using as a VR Developer, Video Editor, Web designer and Producer. I used it for many years mainly in film before Safari and certain other things stopped working only recently in Nov 2024. So I found this 2 year old tutorial and am still following it, so far you have been so helpful! I have lost my job and struggling with Bipolar & PTSD as well so cash is really tight. I am installing the new OS now with 17 mins left and am so excited. Its like getting a new laptop again, one that I could otherwise not afford. It did freeze up when I did an option 1 install, so I have wiped the drive and trying a clean install. Fingers crossed. Thanks so much!
AMAZING! I concur with previous comments - This must be one of the TOP instructing videos with timestamps, info and explaining. I added this channel right away. Keep up the amazing work and THANK YOU to everyone involved in the OpenCore Patcher team for making it possible to continue and use older fully functioning hardware. Thanks!!! (I will try the patcher on my oldest hardware, a 24 inch iMac from 2008 - the ultimate test - what could possibly go wrong?! LOL)
Hey, I got it working with a MBP Retina and iMac from 2015. I started doing it with the 2008 iMac, bit it required a different method. Since I don’t want to do it again, I will open it and substitute the hard drive for ssd first. My goal is having it ready for Xmas since it will be a gift to a good friend that never (!) have used a desktop. I will post when I am done. Successful or not… Cheers!
It's easy to see how much love and dedication you have put on this video. And that's why you just got a new subscriber. Please keep up with this great job!
OCLP is the best way to get an unsupported Mac updated to MacOS Monterey (and hopefully Ventura, when it arrives), and Mr Macintosh provides the best instructions on how to install. He goes quickly through the information, but he is thorough and comprehensive. I recommend watching the instructions from start to finish before you try OCLP for the first time, and then go back and follow the steps that you need for your personal machine. I've been using OCLP for a while now on a Mac Pro 5,1 (2010). My machine has a Radeon RX580 graphics card which has the Macintosh ROM flashed by MacVidCards. I also replaced the WiFi and Bluetooth hardware cards with a more recent card from an iMac (I bought a kit on the auction site that provided the card, some cables and connectors, and instructions). With these two hardware upgrades, my Mac Pro has Metal-compatible graphics card and supported WiFi and Bluetooth, so OCLP does not need to install any legacy root patches. One nice advantage to OCLP over other patching methods I had used previously for Big Sur is that my Mac Pro now receives and installs Monterey updates (including Beta versions) using Apple's standard Software Update. Before allowing Software Update to install an update, I check youtube to see if Mr Macintosh has installed and tested the update and verified that it has no problems.
Michael, thank you very much! You called it on your Mac Pro, it is in a perfect spot with an updated wifi / bt card & metal graphics card! It should continue to run well into the future. I hope the OCLP devs can get Ventura working 🤞
Hi, Ive just upgraded my 27inch iMac 12.2 and its great! Im 63yrs old (not very tech savvy) and found the instructions easy to follow easy to follow. I'm delighted to have upgraded this computer, thank you.
Successfully followed this tutorial over the weekend to install MacOS Monterey on a 13-inch Macbook Pro 2012. Took me 2 installs and one update where I downloaded Monterey again via Software Update and then had to deal with the App Store not allowing me to download apps but all is working now. Thank you for the excellent tutorial, Mr. Macintosh!
Thanks much for this video and all of your efforts to keep us in the loop. When I started upgrading MacOS on my unsupported MBP(s), I kept having problems and couldn’t figure out why. Now, my systems are running smoothly. When originally purchased, I did everything I could to “future proof” my 2012 (NON-Retina) MBP’s hardware. As a result of these combined efforts of better hardware, OCLP, and clear explanations, Monterey runs great and I still have room to grow. Thanks again!
@DF Astor Thank you very much for the comment! I'm really glad your 2012 MBPro is working so well. How cool is it that 10 years later you are running the latest version of macOS! 👍
@@Mr.Macintosh And so cool that the machine is really humming along. In some ways, it feels as though the machine is running Monterey cooler and faster than it did for Catalina. I’ve bookmarked this video because it’s a comprehensive review of how to upgrade and a great, current overview of the latest OCLP. Those using OCLP have taken care of their hardware and have a strong loyalty toward Apple. It makes sense you were invited to WWDC 2022. You’re providing a huge service for us and for Apple.
@@Mr.Macintosh Ive updated my 2011 and it all seems fine. Only thing I dont like is it seems the fan runs more than normal. I have 16gb and a 500gb samsung ssd. Any thoughts on that?
Thank you, Mr. Macintosh for doing videos like this and thanks to the people involved in putting out all of the OCLP versions that help people like me continue to use what Apple considers "obsolete" computers! I recently bought a 2012 iMac (13,1) for just $80 from a local university that was auctioning it online. It still had OS X Mountain Lion installed on it. I brought it up to MacOS Catalina using the regular Apple software updates, but thanks to this video I now have Monterey running on my 2012 iMac and it works great! The software update keeps showing me an update for Ventura, but since Monterey is working so well on my iMac right now, I may hold off on Ventura for a bit.
I also have late 2013 MAC with 8 GB RAM installed already. Portable SSD for Mac- USB 3.2 External SSD will work for an OS upgrade , or it has to be an internal SSD only?
Great video! I recently upgraded my mid 2012 MacBook Pro to Monterey using your instructions and worked. I used instructions from other websites and didn't work for me. I followed exactly what you did in the video and even used the version of opencore as you did and still works today. I seem to have issues with using the most recent version of opencore, my Macbook hangs after I select the usb drive at the boot picker screen but is resolved if I use the version of opencore as you do in the video. I will tell you that trying to upgrade my MacBook to Big Sur then Monterey was extremely frustrating because there are so many websites on how to upgrade older Macs but don't work. I'm so happy I found your videos because you go into fine detail and I like that! I also used your instructions when upgrading to Big Sur and it works. I feel like I have a new laptop so a big thanks to you Mr Macintosh!!!
As someone who used to rely on DosDudes Catalina patcher I'm really impressed with the work on the OpenCore patcher. Fingers crossed on Ventura support!
After much time and a few user errors I got my MacBook Pro 2010 to run Monterey! Thank you for your video, and your calm manner- it was not easy for me (71 years young and still up for a challenge) IT WORKS! Thank you!
Thanks a million - this tutorial is so useful and well made and enabled me to set my 2010 MacPro up with macOS Monterey. Everything works very well! Massive thanks and kudos to all the developers and contributors of OpenCore and OCLP too. Thanks to you guys my old computer got yet another few years of usability.
Unbelievable!!! This is what you call a tutorial. Just completed the installation of Monterey on a Mac pro 5.1 2009. Works like a charm. Thanks so much Mr. Macintosh
Great work. This is in depth and and well articulated that you don’t even have to be a seasoned Mac user to understand what’s being talked about. Keep up the great work
This video is fantastic! Best walk-through of anything I've seen in a long time. Your step-by-step approach explaining things as they happen is super-clear. My 2010 MacPro 5,1 is running Monterey beautifully. I'm very happy to breathe a little more life into this machine to keep it productive.
Hi i would be interested to know what Mac OS you upgraded from. I recently tried from Mojave to Big Sur and sadly failed. Had to reinstall Time Machine back to get going again and then disable the Boot EFI to get the mac to boot directly into High Sierra / Mojave. Am going to try again with Catalina but likely go the Dosdude route for that.
@@richardretter It wasn't an upgrade, but a completely new build. For what it's worth, the 5,1 that's now running Monterey was previously on High Sierra. It does have a metal-compatible graphics card. Good luck!
Thrilled with this tutorial. I followed the directions and I'm typing this on my mid 2009 macbook pro running Monterey 12.6. Very impressive! Some good work by knowledgeable pros went into the products here. I had tried this a year ago and was not successful - graphics and audio were problems. So far so good this time. Thanks for your work on this.
Never done a comment before but thought I should do it for this. Thank you for going to the extent that you did for research and details. Worked like a charm!
Thank you so much for this! I was able to transition from Mojave to Monterey with my Mac Pro 5,1! It must be stressed; if you have ANY PERIPHERALS, multiple monitors connected to the GPU (I have three monitors to my RX 580), internal USB 3.0 cards, etc., DISCONNECT ALL OF THAT! I Cannot stress that enough. All you need is the barebones of the system, USB keyboard and mouse, and one monitor to make this upgrade work. Trust me, it will save you time. Also, if the OPTION key doesn't work with the restart to see/choose the other drives, do CMD + R (Recovery). The OPTION, never worked, period. I had to CMD+R, run the TERMINAL, DISABLE the SIP, restart, Boot back into Recovery (CMD+R), run TERMINAL again to mount the USB EFI, bless it, and restart. I hope this helps anyone who had trouble.
Did you bless the EFI volume or a specific file within the contents? Running Martin's OC with a 580 and get stuck before the boot picker. Took a stab with the bless opencore script used to get Lo's OC working but it just presented 2 USB EFI in the boot picker, neither was bootable.
@@olafszester2244 what finally got me up and running was to use a spare 2012 MacMini i7 quad ($120 CL purchase) to upgrade a clone of a Mojave install. OCLP balked at first using the MacPro configuration but I was able to get the install to proceed. Transferred the SSD into the MacPro and ran post install patches to get the wi-fi running and tweak the spoof level to get best performance out of the 580. Worked a lot better than yanking all the cards out of the MacPro and tinkering around with Terminal. The only software that won't run under Monterey thus far is X-Plane 11. Parallels VMs, Docker, Davinci 18, running quite well. When first running the setup on the Monterey install take the time to set up your iCloud. Your other iDevices will alert you login on a new Mac. I bypassed this process upgrading the girlfriend's Mini (she got a better machine out of the deal) and the preferences on her Monterey install would not take. Had to repeat the clone Catalina, OCLP upgrade to get that system up to speed with Monterey. Frustrating upgrade but worth it.
Holly Molly, this video is so detailed oriented that I am both super excited and anxious to try to upgrade my 2010 Mac Pro 5,1. I had tried in the past to update to Catalina with no success and I got so frustrated that I gave up. It was much too time consuming with no result. This was about 2-3 years ago. Over the years, I had fully upgraded my CPU, GPU, Memory, HD to SSD very high capacity etc... absolutely everything one can imagine and was stuck on Mojave... I have an Empty SSD drive installed and a 32GB at least thumb drive so I am good to plunge in the big adventure. I will follow religiously this video and upgrade. I cross my fingers. I hope I will not encounter issues as I may not be able to resolve them on my own, or without any support from a tierce person as Mr Macintosh. I will come back to follow up. I don't want to spend my entire life with that matter either, but on another hand, I really want to upgrade. So, we shall see. Anyway, thank you so so so so much Mr Macintosh for this video. It could be a "life-saving" for me!!!! and my monster computer! Update on 09/13/2022. I made it and mon computer is working like magic. It is even faster! Windows is also working great! Patience and obstinacy always pay off!
This video in particular, plus another showing how simple it is to upgrade these older macbooks convinced me to buy a 2011 model and upgrade. Total cost £198 GBP, I now have ‘modern’, fast and cavernous Macbook Pro... a huge vote of thanks and appreciation for all your hard work and professionalism. Having a great Macbook Pro AND up to date OS has given me just what I need, for a fraction of ‘new’ cost. Now I can’t leave my ‘new’ Mac alone! 😂
Thanks for your extraordinary work, it always impresses me how professional you are. Thanks to you i’ve been keeping my Late 2013 21.5’ iMac with an upgraded SSD always up to date for years, first with Patched Sur and now with Open Core Legacy Patcher. I wanted to ask you something: when I updated to Monterey with OCLP some months ago, I did it as an upgrade having Big Sur (that it was done thanks to Patched Sur), and even though it has worked amazing, being able to enjoy all new features flawlessly, I’ve had to deal with reaaaally long booting times every time I turn on my Mac (that I didn’t have with Big Sur nor Catalina) and once in a while it can do some funny glitches that i can fix them by rebooting the Mac. So I was wondering, can I do a clean install to try to fix this issues using this process even though I’m already in Monterey with OCLP? Thanks and greetings from Chile!
Hello Gabriel! Thank you very much for the comments 👍. For your situation, I would reccomend a a full PRAM Reset, Erase and fresh install of Monterey. This would remove all previous parts of any other patcher and give you a fresh start. Let me know how it goes!
I upgraded my mid-2011 27 inch iMac (bought new for $1000 cdn) with a 500gig SSD and 12 gig ram but unable to find an easy and inexpensive way to upgrade the software. Then watched this video and successfully install Monterey a day ago. It helped to watch your video on my PC while performing the upgrading on my iMac! After the upgrade, software update said upgrade to macOS Ventura is available so I downloaded it and it installed! Many thanks to you and Opencore for keeping my iMac up to date.
Just wanted to say THANKS!!!! My MacBook pro mid 2012 has been stuck for years, not being able to upgrade to compatible MacOS. This happened after I did the CD drive to SSD swap, I don't know if that was the reason why I wasn't able to upgrade. I tried everything under the sun until I came across this video, now I'm running Monterey on it! I don't usually leave comments but signed in specifically to show my appreciation.
The explanations are clear and precise. I consider myself successful in installing, via clean install, the latest Monterey build on my MacBook Pro 15 Retina, 15-inch, mid 2012 (10.1 model), which still works great. The Monterey is smoother and a little faster. I believe, I appreciate it. Everything works well. I repeat myself - everything (or almost). The only concern is that some applications constantly quit unexpectedly. Uninstalling and installing does not change anything. Like, for example, ExpressVpn, which has a particularly strange behavior. It opens correctly, but as soon as I press "Connect" it quits unexpectedly. Strange, right? Do you have an idea or suggestion to give me so that I can solve this problem? Thank you very much in advance.
Great job. thank you for posting this useful instructions. So far everything is going well - except hibernation mode. When I put my MB Pro 13 Mid 2012 to sleep there is no chance that it wakes up after some hours or so. Tried to extend the screentime. But once again - beside that issue everything works very well and responsive. Maybe there is anyone around for helping me to fix the Sleep (Deepsleep) issue. thx
I too have the MBP 13 mid 2012. After seeing your post I tried sleep mode and didn't experience any problems with waking so I suspect it might be a difference in our hardware configurations. I've got the i5 model with two SSDs, 500GB and 240GB (in place of the optical drive) and 16GB of RAM, and a new battery, all recently upgraded.
@@bryans8656 Nearly the same as mine - except i have a 250 crucial mx and a 128 sandisk ssd. 16 GB Ram as well. i will try to install new- when Catalina is no more supported. thx for your reply - but i got no notice - unfortunately.
This is my go to in keeping my wife's 2009 MacBook Pro going. I installed a Samsung 500 gb ssd and it's maxed on ram. Some issues here and there and hoping to install the Ventura update and see how that works. Thanks so much for the hard work you've put in and you've got a new subscriber.
Dude, this worked for me! On my iMac 2011. I had to do a clean install, so I backed up everything to a jump drive and then just jumped in. I am almost 40 years old. A boring old mommy of 5, and so basically if I can do it, anyone can do it. God bless you sir, in Jesus' name. You have saved me thousands of dollars.
Successfully installed latest OS (2023) on mid-2011 iMac with SSD following your instructions. Amazing. Only hiccup was that the Bluetooth Mac mouse can’t be used during the restore/install stage so make sure to have a USB mouse handy. Was possible navigating with keyboard only, but was not easy! Thank you for this great video 👍🏼
This has been without a doubt the clearest and easiest tutorial I have ever watched. Excellent work! I now have Monterey running on my Early 2008 Mac Pro!
just install macOS Monterey on my late 2012 Mac mini server and it works like a charm. Thanks to your step by step setup guide. My Mac mini has a new life!!! Thank you sir!
upgraded my mid2012 macbook pro to monterey from catalina over the weekend using this guide. Thank you so much! I ran into a couple issues, namely in restoring my data from my backup after installation - it kept crashing and needing to reinstall monterey. I tried both time machine on set up as the guide shows, and migration assistant, with both all or some of the files. Ended up setting the laptop up with the installation as a new device without migration, and manually copying over my files, apps and system files afterwards. Working like a dream now! Thanks again, this guide was so incredibly thorough and explanatory
After watching your video tutorial. I was able to successfully install Monterey on my 2010 MacBook Pro 7.1 using OCLP. Thank you very much! Keep up the good work!
I just seamlessly upgraded my late 2009 iMac. Was frustrated that I couldn't upgrade it to Monterrey. This video saved me so much frustration. Well done and thank you!
Thank you Mr Mackintosh I just bought a 2009 MacBook Pro of eBay and I installed Big Sur using this guide aswell as your other guide. Works flawlessly, thank you so much.
This is - as from today - my ultimate update/grade tutorial channel for my cMP 5,1 (mid-2012). First shot, direct hit! Thank you so much for your dedication to the Legacy Mac Pro's. Running macOS Monterey 12.6.2 without any bleeding, all systems are go! Cheers.
I am not a techie and would dread this type of operation and after I almost begged two techie friends who were unavailable I had to try to install this patch with OPENCORE. your patience in crafting this video allowed this 2012 Mac book air belonging to my family to have life again. many thanks for having a simple to follow ( I had to rewind it a few times). But everything in it worked (even with different versions). hats off to you Mr. Macintosh. Can you do a vid about AI next?
You are the BEST! Followed your instructions to the "T" but had an error with OSX 12.6.3 on an 2014 MBP running Mojave. I ran open core again and picked an older version on Monterey and all went PERFECT ! No patches needed with this open core version! Doing a time machine restore now .. Great Video ! You Rock! ! Thank You!
This saved me buying a new mac! My old mac was good but the newer software was uninstallable. Thanks so much for this detailed walk through... changed my life considerably!
As others have stated, Mr. Macintosh you viseos are easy to understand and follow unlike some of the others and I appreciate you so much! Thank you, thank you, and thank you! I'm sending a Thank you donation right now.
I want to say thank you for the walk through. Mid 2012 MacPro5,1 w/ EVGA GTX60 Mac Edition, Upgraded Wi-Fi/BT card, OWC Mercury EXTREME Pro 6G SSD 1TB, 32GB RAM. The fresh install went flawless and everything works the same. =P
You're not an AI bot, are you? Normal YT creators aren't anywhere near this good at everything! ;) This service to us to extend the lives and usefulness of our beloved Macs is invaluable! Thank you so much! When I grow up I want to learn to be just like you! ;)
Thanks man ! I have mid 2009 macbook pro 4GB RAM with 160GB SSD. updated it to 12.6.4 and it is working fine. It is not legacy it is OpenCore Miracle Patcher. Stay blessed all who contributed to this.
Hands down the best tech tutorial I've seen on youtube. Made it all very straight forward and explained every step. You need to add a donate button somewhere here as you are saving people a fortune. I resurrected a Mid 2010 27" Imac with SSD that would have been fit for the bin now it runs like a dream.
I'm so thankful with you guys! I recently install a metal graphic card on my iMac 12,2 and finally can run Monterrey like a charm. Definitely, you're the best!
Mr M, Thank-You so much... My 2012 Mac Mini (2 SSD's/16gb ram) is again my go to Machine, shelved for about a year, did a "maintenance" routine, (CPU paste & fan clean) and did a "clean" install of Monterey from Catalina. The Mini with Monterey is great, all these new features and now I can use my iPad pro 2018 as a 2nd display running my Roon install, and go to "widgets". Your tutorials are great, keep up the good work. Phillip
Not much for commenting but this software package and the accompanying youtube video saved my 2010 Mac Mini Server from obsolescence - and allows me to run Roon 2.0! Thank you devs and Mr. Mac.
Thank you, Mr. Macintosh. Now my late 2008 MacBook Pro is reborn with your patch. I have noticed that (vs El Capitan) performance is slightly slower, which is expectable if machine uses Core 2 duo CPU :) but the amount of advantages of Monterey against El Cap says everything. For those who want to apply patch to a such machine you may bump with the situation when installer says "less than minute remaining" and seems hang, LEAVE IT AND LET IT ACCOMPLISHED. In my case this particular step took 2 hours or about.
I never usually comment on thing youtube related, you took me through every step, my mac now runs smoother and i can get latest softwares and all, This is the best out ther. It works in Jamaica , Yes
After a few slight hiccups where the process to boot without the USB wasn't automatic ( just run the patcher again but perhaps don't remove the usb on reboot) it's now working like a charm on a 2009 white unibody. Thanks very much for this excellent guide!
This tutorial rocks! I am so pleased with the result. I actually managed to upgrade my Early 2009 White MacBook to Big Sur with thanks to this video - and after the post-install patches are applied, honestly, it runs great. Thank you! :)
Thanks! Apple hardware lasts a LONG time, except that we can’t update the software-until NOW! Simply amazing. Thank You to all the geeks who know how to develop ways to avoid discarding usable gear, which reduces Waste. Recyclable? Indeed! Wow the best detailed TH-cam video I’ve seen so far and thank you. I’ve followed all your information and my MacBook is working super fine. I decided to install from scratch and I can book up perfectly without a usb. You are the best and thank you.
Absolutely perfect TH-camr... No spamming no lies no viruses, nothing less than a perfect guide. Thanks 🙏 keep up the good work and we will follow you... Thanks again

I just came to thank you for this very-well-explained video, I succesfully installed MacOS Monterey on my 21.5" inch Late 2013 imac, wich I DIY upgraded from 8GB DDR3L to 16GB DDR3L and from 1TB Mechanical Hard drive to 1TB SSD. Sofar, so good! Thank you!! Date of install: 11-14-2022
I have the same model late 2013 Mac with 8 GB RAM, which is enough according to video. My question is, can I just buy an external, USB 3.2 portable SSD 1TB and use it for an OS upgrade from 10.9.5 to Monterey or Ventura?
Many thanks, so clear explanations! And the tone of your voice gave enough confidence to try it :) Everything ran as in your video. Best tuto ever! Congratulations!
Thank you so much Mr. Macintosh. Just got an iMac mid 2010 (hardware 4GB) and it had MacOS High Sierra but of course I couldn't had any updated applications. Yesterday I took your tutorial and today I've macOS Monterey running perfectly on the iMac.
Thank you!! Very well done. Thanks to you and the devs of OpenCore Legacy Patcher I was able to install Monterey on my 2009 classic Mac Pro. It works great. Honestly it's faster now with Monterey than it was when running Mojave. I did break my Contour Design Shuttle Pro hardware compatibility, but that 's the only issue.
Thank you very much for your tutorial. I have tried twice with other TH-cam tutorials but failed on both occasions. My late 2011 MacBook Pro runs better than on native os. I upgraded ram to 16gb and SSD. Thanx❤❤❤ The opencore 0.6.7 is amazing.
Thank you so much! Got 12.6.x on my new hard drive now with a new battery and 16gb too. Mid 2010 mbp. So happy I repurposed my late Grandpa's old mbp. Tysm!
Outstanding how-to and explanation for the use of this wonderful software - I had attempted a couple of times to install Monterey using 0.5.3 but the procedures I followed were incomplete and I wasn't able to get the os installed correctly - Your step by step process made it easy and manageable!
well said
He's right
I assume you’ve upgraded your hardware to an SSD and more RAM? The average user doesn’t do that, and I think that’s why updates get cut off after a certain point. I can’t imagine it would run well on a spinning hard drive with four gigs of ram like you find in those older systems by default.
Edit: tried 4GB of ram in my 2012 MBP, with an SSD, and maaaaan was Catalina much less responsive, my guess is due to the page file being used quite a bit. Went back to 16GB lol
@@computernerdinside I did indeed update my RAM.

I had an old macbook mid 2010 which i was using as a VR Developer, Video Editor, Web designer and Producer. I used it for many years mainly in film before Safari and certain other things stopped working only recently in Nov 2024.

This tutorial is exceptionally well done and can get your old Mac a new life! Thank you so much.
I would love some feedback on this, running into a wall, same issue, option key doesn't work
@@olafszester2244 what finally got me up and running was to use a spare 2012 MacMini i7 quad ($120 CL purchase) to upgrade a clone of a Mojave install.
Hello @U.S.ArmyVeteran thank you very much! I really appreciate your support of the channel!
I rolled back Cat due to this issue. Not worth the hassle.
Great job. thank you for posting this useful instructions.
I've watched several of these types of videos describing this process. You're the only one who walks a user though completely. Well done !
I do not know how much I should thank you... So far, it is the very best tutorial on TH-cam...
Cheers.
09/20/2023 still running as a smooth operator and updated my cMP 5,1 to Monterey 12.6.9. Stunning performance by the devs & Mr. Macintosh channel.
You Rock! ! Thank You!
I bought a used MacBook Pro 13 (Early 2013) and I want to thank you for this tutorial because it has enabled me to update it.
When I go to open core the Assets will not open. Did u have this problem
Mac.
This was the greatest TH-cam video I've come across all year. Thank you so much for your dedication, time and work.
I cannot overstate how happy i am thanks to your guide - such an amazingly simple, yet informative video!
Hi, did you upgrade anything or just straight on continued with the installation?
Best one so far, was trying to boot the monterey from last 2 days now i got to know how to make it work. Thank you man u r the best ✨✨
Recyclable? Indeed! BTW-My organization fields a team that refurbishes hundreds of discarded computers every year, delivering them to underserved students all over our state of Hawaii; legacy patches are helping improve the usability of those so-called outta date computers. THANKS again!
Thank you so much for such easy to follow instructions - I've sorted out my old 2009 Mac Pro - it all works a dream - I'll get another 5 years out of it - thanks again
Brilliant! Very clear instructions, and now my 2010 MacBook Pro (SSD, 8GB) runs Monterey super! 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
thank you thank you thank you!!! seriously i cannot relate to the comments enough because this is really the most helpful, detailed, step by step guide there is!! i was really desperate to play some games on my mac (a childish but genuine reason 🙏) and now i can finally do it. so so grateful
Wow the best detailed TH-cam video I’ve seen so far and thank you. I’ve followed all your information and my MacBook is working super fine. I decided to install from scratch and I can book up perfectly without a usb. You are the best and thank you.
Thank you so much for this -- revived an old, tired 2013 iMac I had sitting around. Works beautifully now!
This is absolutely the best tutorial that I’ve ever found. Links, explanations and visuals. Thank you so much.
Very informative. I just followed your steps and upgraded my MacOS from Catalina to Ventura , Thank you for your detailed guide Mr. Machintosh 😊
Great to hear Michael! I've noticed the same, Apple did refine the code for faster system tasks and booting 👍
Thank you very much for your tutorial. I have tried twice with other TH-cam tutorials but failed on both occasions. My late 2011 MacBook Pro runs better than on native os. I upgraded ram to 16gb and SSD. Thanx❤❤❤
The opencore 0.6.7 is amazing.
Thank you so much! Got 12.6.x on my new hard drive now with a new battery and 16gb too. Mid 2010 mbp. So happy I repurposed my late Grandpa's old mbp. Tysm!
Awesome @zachscott1089 !!! Keep that 2010 running, your grandpa would be happy for sure ❤️
Very well explained. Thanks.
Outstanding how-to and explanation for the use of this wonderful software - I had attempted a couple of times to install Monterey using 0.5.3 but the procedures I followed were incomplete and I wasn't able to get the os installed correctly - Your step by step process made it easy and manageable!
