    Everything works great, I have the same iMac 2013 as in the video. One important note - if you split your disk into multiple volumes, your SSD from Fusion Drive will most likely stop working and stay on the old volume, resulting in slower OS booting and file handling.

    Watching hundreds of tutorial videos and teaching for 25 years plus, I must say you are definitely under the top 10 teachers/presenters on TH-cam. Thank you are all the great work. Wanted to ask you, what hardware do you use, what screen recording and are you doing voice overs once the recording is done? I would like to learn about the method you are using to make these fine efficient clear videos. Thank you

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I can explain shortly although this is not the best video for it.
      Typically I prepare and have more or less in my head what I will do and in which order. Then I actually do it and film it + recently also do a capture with a HDMI capture card as soon as I do something with software. Afterwards I go through the material and write the story/voiceover and record that. The story kind of determines how the video/screencapture will be used. Once I have that, I edit everything together according to the story and voiceover into the final video.
      Tools I typically use for that: 4K camera, HDMI capture card, OBS for capture, Audacity for audio recording and DaVinci Resolve for video editing.

    I’ve upgraded to Ventura on my late 2023 21.5” iMac (upgraded to 16 Gb RAM and 1 Tb SSD drive). And was about to downgrade back to Catalina… but then I’ve patched the video with OpenCore. It runs like heaven. Bought a cheap USB keyboard in order to be able to press and hold “option”, for i could not do it with my wireless keyboard. Thanks this work great for MacBook Air ... however having issues with Macbook Pro keeps crashing (freezes) after a few minuets. Going to try a different Big Sur. Tip ... Since it kept crashing I had to go into safe mode to rebuild a new thumb drive install. Then OpenCore Legacy Patcher 5.3 would not see the thumb drive. For some reason Ventura screwed the USB ports I guess but after I switched to another USB port, OpenCore Legacy Patcher finally saw the thumb drive. Ok ... As far as I see, both of these will not grt Wifi or support for USB. Also without graphical acceleration, it's just not workable. The mouse is moving so sluggish it will drive you crazy. I'd recommend to wait a bit more as the OCLP team is still working on fixing these things.

    how do I update my mac from version 13.2.1 to version 13.3 without losing all my data? Is there a way??

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  ปีที่แล้ว

      You can just update it as any other Mac. The only thing that can happen is that the patches that were applied are being overwritten. Just make sure you download a copy of the Patcher before doing the update, then run the root patches after the update completed.

    Great tutorial, very clear instructions. But can someone help with an issue I’m having. I download the OS which is visible in the application folder as in the tutorial, but when I do the next step and I assume copy it over to the usb flash drive (I’m using a 32GB one) it copy’s over 130meg on the progress bar, pauses for a while and then goes upto 270meg ish and then the progress box vanishes. Surely it hasn’t copied the full OS over in that time? And ideas? I’ve tried independently formatting the flash drive and starting again, but always the same issue. Help much appreciated 😊

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  ปีที่แล้ว

      Make sure you erase/format the whole drive in Disk Utility by selecting to show All devices first. If that doesn't help, I would suggest to try another USB drive.

      For the installation, as far as I know, you will need a separate USB drive for each version you want to install. Maybe there is a method using the OpenCore boot loader and creating separate installation images but haven't tested that.

    • @jensdbe

      Don't have experience with it myself but I think this is related to legacy UHCI/OHCI support in Ventura as you can see here: github.com/dortania/OpenCore-Legacy-Patcher/issues/1021
      For now the recommendation is to not upgrade to Ventura on these model Macbooks unfortunately.

      It should be possible to update afterwards. At least with Monterey this was the case. In some cases you might need to re-apply the patches so it's always a good idea to keep a copy of the OCLP app on your machine.

    • @jensdbe

      Open Core needs to be specifically built for a specific Mac. You can build it on another Mac but then you wouldn't be able to use it to install Ventura. Also, opening up this type of iMac requires removing the screen in order to install another drive, so I guess a thumbdrive is a bit easier :)

    This doesn't work if Ventura is installed on a USB SSD? Because I just did that, installed fine, runs fine, it's just it doesn't boot to it without the USB pen drive plugged. It keeps booting into the internal HDD in my iMac. Open Core keeps popping up at startup to install it to disk, I installed it multiple times, still doesn't work. Any ideas? Is it because the SSD is connected via USB or maybe something went wrong?

    • @jensdbe
      @jensdbe  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Did you install OpenCore on the internal HDD in your iMac? I think that should work but probably not if you install openCore to your USB SSD as the Mac will most likely not directly boot from that USB SSD.

    • @trei2unu
      @trei2unu 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@jensdbeApparently the issue was indeed that I kept installing OpenCore on the USB SSD (which I thought I should) but after your reply I installed it on the internal HDD and now it works. USB drive no longer needed to be plugged in, after I turn the iMac on the HDD and SSD options appear for like 5 seconds and then boots into Ventura. So thanks a lot! Now I'm confident in trying Sonoma too. Then sometime in the future probably replace the HDD with an SSD altogether and give this beautiful machine a new life.
