This summer has been HOT so we went thrift shopping online with thredUP to try to recreate some of our favourite outfits we saw on Pinterest! This wouldn't be a summer thrift haul without a little DIY though, so we upcycled these finds into the perfect Pinterest dupes. Whether it's a light linen pant, a trendy padded muscle tee DIY (including legit shoulder pads) or a comfy lounge wear set, these looks really came together as great additions to our second hand summer wardrobes. What do you usually pay for duty fees?
Don't shop at thredUP. I've had nothing but problems with the site and with the sizing. I've had to return 80% of what I buy because they don't fit. Even using the measurements don't work. Not to mention, I don't have access to my account when I call it up on google. I have to order something to get access. Small but frustrating.

hi y'all! friendly neighborhood madewell employee here! just want to note that thredup greatly overestimates the prices of these items! the white tee becky got is actually only $16, so in the end she over paid for it.

I noticed that too. There is no way an old navy dress is $40! I haven’t been to old navy in a while but there is just no way. You’re getting way better deals just going to the clearance section of those stores or even going to somewhere like TJ maxx. The whole reason I go thrifting is to get a steep discount because the clothes are used. I’m not paying over $10 for used clothes 🤷🏻♀️
@@NatJediMASTER I own several shirt dresses from Old Navy and when they are not on sale they are generally $44.99-49.99 Canadian so I wasn't surprised by the price at all. But still you're right for the fact that anything pre-used should be way cheaper!
The sweat set did not have the same vibe at all. Everything else you pretty much nailed. Love thred up!
They both needed to be really oversized before cropping
They probably figured that out when they recieved the thrifted item but it was too late to do anything so they still went ahead... Wish they could have just thrifted again and do it right though
I agree. Apart from being oversized, the top was also worn in a cropped style, not pulled down.
And the shoulder pads of the “muscleT” were far to big. They made the whole neck area stand up. Not flattering at all.
The shorts gave me mid-2000 vibes 🙈😂

That's what I hate about linen! Even when you do press your clothes, it doesn't last. When I do wear linen, it has to be something so casual that the rumpled look works.

Steam doesn’t do anything to linen, even if you try to iron out the creases it doesn’t always work. Linen is the devil.

That’s thred ups whole thing - they just sell other peoples used clothes for just under retail prices. Plus most of the stuff is outdated, like those AE sweat shorts. They probably underpriced the vince camuto pants, tbf.

I loved this video. I think these style replicated thrifted looks are awesome! I just desperately wish the girls had pressed and steamed their linen pieces. It just would have made the looks more high end and would have captured the classy vibe of their look picks.

Some of those materials are no wrinkle resistant anyway! I have pants and dresses I steam and they’d one even last an hr without getting wrinkled again.

There is a specific foot for the sewing machine that rolls the hem and sews in one step ! That might safe you a lot of time with your sewing diys ☺️☺️

One of my fav summer outfits is wide leg loose linen drawstring pants with a cotton fitted tank. So comfy and cool , and looks “ put together “ .

I don’t understand how there’s so many choices in thredup when you guys shop... when I go to the website and put in my size range (xl,2xl,14,16) I get one page of really ugly stuff and that’s it. I’ve looked on their website serval times and every time it’s the same.
Totally. I've gone to the website every time they've promoted it and have never been able to find anything nice.
I always struggle to find things when thrifting no matter what because I’m the same size as you and sometimes bigger! A lot of people don’t realize that sustainable shopping can be very hard for people who aren’t small sizes!
Even for someone who is smaller sized, it's nothing but ugly shit. you aren't alone in this!
The thing with thrift shopping is its usually older clothes and older styles, and plus size fashion brands have really only been around for the past 5 years, so a lot of it is still new and not older clothes which would be found in thrift stores! My hack for being a size 12/14 is buying mens clothes and DIYing it to work with my body!
Skylar S I do agree but plus size people aren’t a new thing haha, clothes do exist in our sizes it’s just that they’re harder to find so I think plus size people tend to hang on to their clothes longer. I know I’ve always held onto things until I literally cant wear it anymore, and I know all of my plus size friends are the same

The wrinkles in Becky's first outfit were throwing me off. Made the look feel less achieved, imo. Next time iron/steam before. Especially steaming only takes like 2 mins max with a handsteamer which a super cheap.

Okay, all of the comments are saying you should've ironed/steamed the clothes, maybe I'm strange, but most of the outfits didn't need it, and especially the linen pants that Kelsey wore that I'm sure people were talking about, that's the style you get when you have linen, It's a bit wrinkled and worn in, and that's what I love about it!

Becky, if you had a wide sash with those white trousers, you could sow it to the pants and make them look more high rise than they are and you could remove the belt loops. Plus, it would match the original look which has kind of a sash.
